Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo at E3 2017?

TheLobster

If Nintendo can keep up this stream of one big game a month until well into 2018, which it looks like they might, there will be enough games early on to tempt people to buy a Switch which will create the momentum needed to drive third parties over which will mean Nintendo doesn't have to work so hard. Or that's what I'm hoping.

Re: Gallery: These Yoshi on Nintendo Switch Screenshots Have a Good Feel

TheLobster

@WaveBoy You can't go around making predictions or you set yourself up to be disappointed. "I want Nintendo to show off a new Animal Crossing, talk about Virtual Console and third parties, and port Smash to the Switch." Then if they don't do that you say they sucked, and if they do do that, you say they were predictable and thus sucked. So you can't go into these things with any expectations. Then you will have a good E3 and see it for what it really was, which was probably a B+ presentation.

Re: FIFA 18 Producer Explains Why You Should Care About The Game On Switch

TheLobster

If I cared about sports games I would buy this in a heartbeat to send a message to EA to do more of this. It really sounds like they put a lot of effort into it and it will be a fantastic experience. I do hope it sells well. But I really don't give a flip about sports games so I won't be buying this. I feel almost guilty for not caring about what is so obviously going to be a very good game. Please, if you like FIFA, buy this game on Switch. We need to talk with our wallets. Then EA will put something that isn't sports on the Switch and I can talk with mine.

Meanwhile my cat knocks my Galaxy S6 off a four foot table onto carpet last weekend and I have to get a whole new phone. Go figure. It probably hit a chair on the way down but still.

More things need to be built out of Nintendium. At least my phone was paid off and had insurance so the upgrade to the latest and greatest, Galaxy S8+, was free. Still working on recovering those pesky contacts, pics, videos, and calendar appointments from the old one though.

That'll teach me to take two week vacations and leave my cats alone thinking I'm gone forever, I guess.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Stays on the Podium in UK Charts

TheLobster

For anyone wondering you can buy any game you want to in the world for your four-year-old at GameStop. That's your business and we (they, now) are not in the business of telling you how to raise your kids. It's when the four-year-old tries to buy the game themselves that we (they) step in. (Because any individual GameStop gets a quarter million dollar fine if they are caught selling 'M' rated games to minors.)

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Stays on the Podium in UK Charts

TheLobster

@LiberatedAnimal They don't even have to turn 13. The youngest person I sold GTAV to when I worked at GameStop was 7. He handed it to his mom and she stood there and handed it to me and I was like, "Ma'am, I think you'll want him to pick out a different game, this one is 'M' rated." "I see the rating," she goes. "No, but this one is really 'M' rated," I said, and then went into everything naughty GTAV does. "He sees worse on the news," was her reply! I swear I wanted to rip that game out of her hands and tell her how to be a decent parent but, I had to do my (s****y) job. Now don't get me wrong, I own GTAV. It's a good game. But seven?!

@Anti-Matter You seem like a really nice person and I'm always interested in your opinions, just try not to go on a crusade, OK? There's a time to drop a point.

Re: Video: The Most Memorable Issues of Nintendo Power

TheLobster

I don't have almost any of these, and I have a very sizable collection of Nintendo Powers. All I have off the list are #47, #85, and the last one. All of the "retro" Nintendo Powers are worth looking at though! (I hate realizing that ALL of Nintendo Power is retro now. Shhhh.) It is always fascinating to see what games were popular back in the day, and the letters are a hoot! I'm currently reading #73 and there is a guy in there saying they need to be more vicious against Sega, and stop printing kiddy letters like people baking Nintendo cakes. "People baking Nintendo cakes?" I thought to myself, "That sounds like an article that would be posted on NintendoLife!" I agree with @Jim_Purcell, the early 90s really need representation here.

Re: Nintendo Using Costly Air Freight To Meet Demand For Switch Faster

TheLobster

@zool They're saying "could" simply because currency often fluctuates between countries. One day it might be $45, another day it might only be $41. And then again not all of these are going to the US I am sure so there are conversions of yen to euro to dollar going on, or yen to pound to dollar, which will throw off the numbers as well. They only gave the number of $45 because they were speaking to an American publication. It is close enough to $45 for government work. And $45 per unit is a steep price. Bodes well for price drops and bundles in the future though.

Re: Editorial: The Ongoing Pleasures of Nintendo Switch Boxes, Cartridges and (Occasionally) Manuals

TheLobster

I am still buying the physical games. I have seven now because - and I love that I can say this - I imported I Am Setsuna. That doesn't mean I don't have quite a few download titles though. In fact, I have seven, plus the Splatoon Testfire. I'm really itching for folders now on the Switch main menu.

I really enjoy that I can buy so many games physically, to keep my memory free for the ever increasing number of titles that are download-only.

Re: 1-2-Switch, Snipperclips and Super Bomberman R All Had Positive Launches on Nintendo Switch

TheLobster

I've had a ball playing 1, 2 Switch with my 78 year old father. Is he the type of person that is interested in Zelda? Nope! But he gets a kick out of Quick Draw and Ball Count. Snipperclips is another that I've enjoyed with several people. Meanwhile I stick to Zelda, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Snake Pass, and several others for myself. Just got Mario Kart today. All told I have 15 games for the Switch now in less than two months with seven, count 'em seven on my eShop wishlist waiting for a sale. Seven of my collection are physical (I imported I Am Setsuna) and the rest are digital.

Anyone who says there are no games for the Switch is bonkers.

Re: Talking Point: As Nintendo Switch Looks to Rapidly Overtake Wii U Sales, 3DS Lives On

TheLobster

@rjejr They count the cards, they have said they sold 9.1 million figures and 9.3 million cards for last fiscal year. The question is, was that 9.3 million individual cards or 9.3 million packs of cards? It's enough to make your head spin. I think if they start doing Pokemon cards instead of just Animal Crossing it wouldn't be under 10 million though.

I agree with you, there are going to be some interesting things at E3, even if some of them are just stuff we already suspect. SSB Switch would be enough to put a million extra consoles under Christmas trees easy.

Re: New Nintendo 2DS XL Announced, Releases 28th July

TheLobster

I have to admit, if I had an elementary school aged kid, after seeing this, the 2DS XL is the system I would buy for them. Top of the line, cheap, and has a massive library (that is also often pretty cheap). Perfect for that age group. Keep the Switch for mama.

Nintendo isn't really shooting itself in the foot here because it's going for two completely different markets. The type of person who would buy the 2DS XL was never going to buy the Switch anyway (or at least, not for another four or five years).

Re: Feature: What We Expect From Nintendo's Annual Financial Reports

TheLobster

@Slim1999 Ugh. That was unnecessary. Reported for harassment.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Sarcasm is hard to get across on the internet, even with smilies. Something like 95% of communication is nonverbal so even talking on the phone can screw you. Your comment was a bit funny about Wii U games. Of course Nintendo would never do a price drop until next year after the 3DS Ambassador fiasco. I'm sure we will get bundles for the holidays though which are an equivalent.

Re: Weirdness: 35-Year-Old Review Of Game & Watch Title Octopus Surfaces Online

TheLobster

This was a fantastic review! I loved reading his descriptions of the unit and the fact that Nintendo is those guys who made "Donkey Kong." Also, of course, the use of the word "lugubrious" which I have never heard anyone under the age of 50 use. People had better vocabularies back in the day.

February 2, 1982 was well over five years before I was born! Wow!

Re: Fan-Made Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Lego Set Builds Up Support

TheLobster

I don't like this. It's really bland. If it was one giant Guardian or something I could get behind that. I used to build HUGE Star Wars sets as a teenager, I have Yoda, Star Destroyer, AT-AT Walker, and so forth. Something not as big as the Star Destroyer but maybe on the size and complexity as Yoda for the Guardian would be perfect.

Re: New Nobunaga's Ambition Title Confirmed For Nintendo Switch

TheLobster

@SLIGEACH_EIRE How could it have released yet on Switch when the Switch has only been out for a few weeks? Mario Kart isn't even out yet. Regardless I have Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence for my PS4 so it obviously released in the West. They will probably show this in the sizzle reel at E3.
