Re: Don't Forget, Nintendo Direct: E3 2018 Will Kick Off At 5pm BST On 12th June

TheLobster

@rjejr I didn't think you were being a jerk! Sorry if I came across that way! I enjoy your posts.

I know, I live in Musical Theatre World most of the time and everyone is very excited. We almost put on Hair this summer at our theatre but Little Shop of Horrors won the slate instead. It opens next Friday! Feeeeeeed me, Seymour!

Our kids I think may still be in school due to the ten day teacher strike we had a few months back. Doesn't affect me as I don't have kids except that I know who NOT to vote for in the fall! #55strong

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Switch)

TheLobster

@AlexOlney Love the "Bodacious" score btw! You should do that more often! Not often enough that it gets old, just sneak it in every once in a while. Great review, I'd love you to review more often but then I guess I wouldn't get told that I was a lovely person as frequently. Hmmm.

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Switch)

TheLobster

@gatorboi352 Oh no, God forbid, over a 12 year period there are a lot of 2D sidescrollers on Nintendo platforms. Wonder how many FPSes and third person shooters released on Playstation and Xbox in the same time? I don't see you complaining about that. Wonder why?

Re: Soapbox: What Pokémon GO And The Pokémon Main Series Could Learn From Each Other

TheLobster

I don't think that just because your nephew tried to catch a Pokemon by swiping the screen on the 3DS that means the mainline games need their catching mechanics revamped. I think that speaks more of your nephew and how he was introduced to the game (Pokemon GO) and his age (very young (I assume), so accustomed to touchscreens). I often waste dozen of Pokeballs trying to catch a single 'mon in Pokemon GO and I for one would be very annoyed if the mainline games changed so that a freaking Pidgey was dodging and weaving and moving all over the place even after I had brought it to 1HP and I wasted Pokeball after Pokeball on it. One thing I like about Pokemon is that my avatar has good aim and hits the 'mon every time. It's far less frustrating than the mobile game which frankly I find to be fairly boring.

Re: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Disappears From The North American Wii U eShop

TheLobster

@jimi "Those companies should be sued for this. It shouldn't be legal.
If they are unable (actually unwilling) to support their digital stores, then they simply should not be allowed to "sell" games digitally."

You're kidding, right? Sony and Nintendo won't (read: can't) keep their old digital servers up forever so they are stealing from consumers? You realize it costs money to keep servers running and at some point the cost to benefit ratio of keeping a store open that nobody is buying from becomes too great? Get a clue.

Now, taking a game down from your store, that you own the license to and have no reason to take down other than a newer, shinier (and more expensive) version is releasing elsewhere is crap. There are other reasons to take games off your store that aren't crap, like losing the license to it (Nintendo used to have C64 games on the Wii Virtual Console for instance but they don't anymore), those are reasons beyond your control. But taking a game down just because you want to make more money elsewhere, well, now you're just being a ****head.

Tl;dr: Nintendo closing the Wii Shop is reasonable, Nintendo taking down DKC:TF from the Wii U eShop is not.

Re: Nintendo Is The "Cheapest Game Stock In The World" – But Not For Long

TheLobster

@sillygostly I did buy stock in the Wii U days. Go me! I'm holding onto it for now but it's been a long rough ride.

I also have stock in TakeTwo but my financial advisor keeps trying to get me to buy EA and I refuse to do it on principle. It might be losing me money (probably is) but I want nothing to do with that company.

It's taken me several years but I have enough of a portfolio now that if I had any major life emergencies (lost house, lost job) I could withdraw it all and live off the money for two full years. Of course I don't have any kids.

Re: Nintendo Plans To Go Big With Super Smash Bros. For Switch At E3 This Year

TheLobster

@rjejr I think the reason we haven't seen "almost finished" Pikmin 4 in three years is because 1) they didn't want to release it to a dying system, which is fair, sad but fair and 2) the Switch has had so much coming out for it that they haven't had a place to put it yet. Nintendo has had at least two if not three years to remove the dual screen controls from the game so the only reason I can see for them holding it back is they want to focus on other things. Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Xenoblade, third parties, etc. Whenever we see Pikmin 4 announced we'll know it was because there was a gap in the release schedule they couldn't fill with something else. Nintendoomed!

Re: Fox N Forests Will Leap And Bound Onto Switch On 17th May

TheLobster

I'm very, very into the game. Looks fantastic. I'm very, very NOT into the concept art that goes along with it. Looks like everybody's worst idea of a furry. This is my first time seeing this game and that concept art almost turned me off it but seeing the gameplay convinced me to put this on my wishlist. Only thing is - I hope there are no creepy cutscenes in it!

Re: PlatinumGames Wants The Wonderful 101 On Switch

TheLobster

@jimi "Are you autistic or something?"

This is unacceptable. Completely unacceptable. @Anti-Matter is odd and doesn't speak English with 100% fluency but you don't have to be this rude to him. Regardless of whether or not he is autistic (which I don't think he is), it is not a negative thing like you are making it out to be here. Don't use "autistic" as a synonym for "stupid."

Re: Just How Is Nintendo Making All The Cardboard Kits For Nintendo Labo?

TheLobster

@Anti-Matter Labo isn't really the sort of thing you take out of the house. At least for most people. So I can't imagine you would see too many people assembling a piano on the subway (unless they were filming it for Youtube or something which I wouldn't put it past someone to do!). I expect most people will play with Labo in their homes; unlike the regular Switch, it's not really portable.

Re: Hacker Praises Nintendo's Switch Security Efforts, But Says Console Is "Completely Compromised"

TheLobster

@BulbasaurusRex Or Nintendo and other companies may pull a Disney and just keep extending copyright ad infinitum so that the question never comes up. Anyway it's an interesting question because at SOME point Mickey Mouse has to become public domain and at SOME point Mario has to become public domain too. But either of those may not be until long after we are dead, but game backups are still important up until that time.

Re: Hacker Praises Nintendo's Switch Security Efforts, But Says Console Is "Completely Compromised"

TheLobster

@Anti-Matter I guess that's a fair mindset to have. I just feel historical preservation is an OK reason to pirate. People preserve old books, movies, music, etc. Why not old games? With those other things, they have fallen out of copyright before they have started to be preserved. But games as a medium moves so quickly that often they don't have a chance to fall out of copyright before they are at a risk of being lost forever. In fact I don't know if any game has yet fallen out of copyright at all. However, one day these old games WILL be out of copyright and pirating them will be legal. They will be free, like copies of Shakespeare or Mark Twain that you can read on the internet for no charge. But that won't happen if they aren't preserved now.

Re: Hacker Praises Nintendo's Switch Security Efforts, But Says Console Is "Completely Compromised"

TheLobster

@Anti-Matter I know you think it is best to buy the games legally and make sure the developers get the money they have earned and I agree 100% with you but:

What about cases where it is not possible to do that anymore? Take the Wii Shop. That has been discontinued now. (The shop is still up but you can no longer add funds making it impossible to buy anything anymore.) There are dozens if not more WiiWare games that never got released on another platform. If you want to play that game, what do you do? You have to pirate it because it is not possible to pay the developper anymore, it is not possible to buy it. Same with lots of the Virtual Console games on the Wii - they never got released on Wii U and of course we know Switch Virtual Console doesn't exist (yet).

And then there are even older games that go back to the 90s, 80s, and even 70s that people want to play but the developer no longer exists, the platform to buy them on no longer exists. Is it wrong to pirate these games?

I think it is very wrong to pirate current games but once games reach a certain age it is OK simply for their preservation for future gamers. I want my kids in 2030 or whenever to be able to play the same games I can now in 2018. I don't think it's fair to tell them they can't play a game just because they were born too late and it's no longer for sale.

Re: Kirby Star Allies Gobbles Up The Top Spot Again In The Japanese Charts

TheLobster

@rjejr At this time finding the errors in the articles is like playing Where's Waldo only much easier, at least much easier than the book I had growing up.

Untitled

This one was pretty hard even as a 9 or 10 year old. I wonder if I can dig it up and see if I can spot Waldo now that I'm in my 30s... I'm sure that it's around here somewhere. Much more difficult than finding the "Easter Eggs" as you put it!
