Re: Poll: Is the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire Boosting Your Nintendo Switch Hype?

I don't think it's an "act of desperation" to fill a gap as much as it is a carefully premeditated decision to fill a gap. Mario Kart and Splatoon are obviously both just about ready for launch (seeing as how they were perfectly playable two months ago), but Nintendo's being smart and not dropping all their bombs at once like they did with the Wii U.

Slow and steady is the key here.

Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo Switch: Nintendo's Most Important Console Yet

IGN gave it a 6.7/10. I'm not really surprised. They had to give it a score, and many of its most important features aren't live yet. Couple in the desync issue with the JoyCon (which has to be taken into account) and you get a less-than-perfect impression. That said, neither the desync issue nor the battery will affect me in the least, so I'm still every bit as hyped. Roll on Friday!

Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Switch Super Bowl Ad Was a Huge Success, But Why?

@lighteningbolt79 This may come as a surprise to you, but the vast, VAST majority of the human population does not own a video game console. Even the highest selling console of all time, the PS2, was purchased by less than 2% of the population. The "average person" doesn't play video games AT ALL. If you've ever owned your own game system, you are part of an extremely exclusive niche.

@rjejr I don't think you have to worry about Zelda on Wii U outselling the Switch version. On Amazon at least (where the sales rankings are public), pre-orders for the Switch version are crushing those for the Wii U version. We're in a very similar situation we were at when Twilight Princess dual-released on the Wii and Gamecube, and like you yourself noticed, it sold almost seven times as many copies on the newer system despite only being a marginal upgrade.

If Zelda does sell 8 million, it doesn't have to do it in its first year. Twilight Princess didn't sell 8 million copies in its first year, despite being released on two platforms; it took almost TEN YEARS to reach that number. These titles sell slowly but continuously (like many Nintendo games).

The average consumer isn't going to pick up the system until the holiday anyway, so yeah they'll probably wait until then. Most average people have lives outside of video games xD

@rjejr It's a Super Bowl ad, so this is like, five and a half million steps forward from what they were doing with the Wii U. Also, it's much better to focus your advertising. One good game will sell systems; those of us on the internet whining about the lack of a "good launch lineup" constitute maybe... .001% of their customer base.

Re: Feature: Hopes and Dreams for Nintendo's 2017

Not exactly totally on topic but...

When the rumors came around that the Switch would be 1080p on the TV but 720p on the go, why did everyone automatically assume it was because the Switch would be less powerful away from the dock?

Maybe it's just because the Switch has a 720p screen, in which case I would probably expect BETTER graphics while it isn't trying to force itself to make a 1080p picture
