@Ashthearcher I mean, this is probably the "best" pokemon game. It's not the most hardcore experience--that, in my opinion, still goes to HeartGold and SoulSilver, but those can run you up a pretty penny. I say start with this, X, Y, OR or AS.
None of us want to see Nintendo fail, but the Wii U got what it deserved. It was poorly marketed, absurdly priced, spurned third parties AND featured relatively few first-party games, so what the hell were gamers supposed to do?
@Nomad The original Xbox 360 version of Skyrim was only 3.2 GB~ Honestly I don't know why the Special Edition takes up so much space, it doesn't look like they did much texture improving (from what I've seen so far, I've only put a few hours in).
Yep, cartridges are better than discs. Since flash media was created, it has been faster and sturdier than optical media, but couldn't keep up in the 2000's because optical media could achieve much larger storage sizes for much cheaper. Now that the price is coming down for flash media, I could see many companies going back to it--and you should expect much faster load times and much longer lifespans for your cartridge games!
@MadAdam81 Analog triggers ARE analog, though. They use potentiometers to derive their depression value, resulting in a non-quantized signal (position as an analog of time). The signal is then interpreted by the CPU and quantized so it can be used in the game. Variable yes, but also analog by definition.
@Ninten-san It definitely is in the final game. You might be able to turn it off? It's not THAT big a deal, but I think it would have been cool if they made it so that you could only get that info if you were battling a Pokemon you'd previously caught (and thus know the types of).
This looks better and better the more they show xD That, combined with the fact that I'm REALLY getting into the main series, means I'm pumped to see some chibified versions of my favorite monsters
@sillygostly I still think Twisted is the best It also has motion controls, and in my opinion funnier games and a better sense of progression. I think it actually has more total minigames, too, but I could be wrong
Probably the weakest WarioWare game, but still pretty great and funny I'm surprised we haven't gotten a new entry to take advantage of the 3DS' gyro, considering how big a hit WW: Twisted was back in the day.
@jbopatrick It's actually still considered emulation, because it's one device imitating another. The FPGA is not housed on the same chip as the NES (it hasn't been manufactured in over 25 years), and I'd be willing to bet the logic blocks were custom written.
So people are okay with emulators if they're loaded onto a custom processing unit in a plastic case designed to look like the thing they're emulating, huh? Sure, at that price point it's only going to really attract those who have original game carts (you could still use a flash cart to load homebrew or pirated roms... but if you were going to do that anyway you'd probably use a PC). I just think it's a funny double standard.
I'm not even being sarcastic. This was a really nice gesture. And it's touching to think that amiibos can be a vessel for our loved ones' ghost data... erm, so to speak.
@3MonthBeef If vanilla PS4 is compatible at ALL with PSVR, they need to make sure it can push a bare minimum of 90fps.
90-120fps isn't just a "nice" thing to have for VR, like high frame rates are for a standard display; it's necessary. Sub-90fps can cause severe disorientation and motion sickness (which is why the VIVE automatically shuts off if your computer isn't pushing 90+ fps to the headset).
My god, the number of people in this chat who know less than they should -.-
Dolphin is perfectly LEGAL software, and it's the intellectual property of the developers (it's untouchable by Nintendo, at least in the US). You can use it with ACTUAL, PHYSICAL GameCube and Wii discs that you OWN. And it works natively with Wii remotes. It's an amazing piece of software that basically lets you play Nintendo's best games ever made in HD and with custom textures.
I voted for go viral, but I think it should be in conjunction with a Direct
When you give people a chance to think about it, they'll always want to have information disseminated in a clear, easy-to-understand, predictable way.
But what people REALLY like is to be surprised by something good. Shock and awe, in a good way. No carefully executed press conference could compare to the market value of a viral campaign done right.
For the record, there isn't "no" story. You are a hunter hired by a monster-researching academy to gather data in the field. So basically the story is on par with Pokemon, and that's fine.
They've really loosened up on how to train your Palico; it's now way easier and faster to swap their skills and make them armor. Still kinda sad there isn't a "main" Palico you could talk to like in 4U, though.
The localization is just as incredible as 4U. One of the tutorials is literally a parody of the Pokemon theme song, and another character talks only in meter-perfect rhyme while tutorializing you (that must have been a b**** for the writing team). One of my favorite characters so far talks half in Japanese, half in English, and I managed to learn a few new words
I appreciate the effort, but... what the holy hell was the point of this article? Lots of people use pre-made assets in their games. DOOM's sound effects were from a popular asset CD series, for example.
@meleebrawler Is there a Monster Hunter community going on here? I was thinking of starting Generations today
I'm kindof a Monster Hunter noob. The only other game in the series I played was 4U, and I only played about 40 hours (I progressed very slowly too, hunting the big monsters multiple times with different weapons, and I think I only ever got up to the spider boss in the second village). I really liked it, but I do like the idea of starting fresh with a new game.
I dunno why people are going on about the story in 4U, it was basically throwaway. I hope the writing is as good in Generations as it was in 4U, though. I laughed out loud quite a few times.
Honestly, I hope the 3DS is at least available on the market for a few more years (I mean, I still find DS Lite models at my local game shops, so I guess I shouldn't be too worried). There are a lot, and I mean a LOT of games I want to keep playing for years to come, and I dunno if we can expect any back-compatibility down the line.
@ElkinFencer10 You could also argue (looking at market statistics) that Blu-Ray is losing ground to Video-on-Demand. Streaming HD vids (and in even higher resolution than currently available on physical media) has become extremely prevalent, and the NX could sneak that functionality in no problem~
@BlatantlyHeroic No reason o.o Everyone should believe in what empowers them to do the most good in their life. Evolution and creationism ARE mutually exclusive explanations for the origin of species, but I know plenty of Christians who believe the Old Testament is more a collection of parables than actual history
Just a PSA, there are totally LEGAL ways to obtain your own ROM dumps of games, from the NES to the 3DS. Not everyone who uses flash carts for utility is a pirate; I loved my R4 card for the DS because it had a built in media player and a 128GB capacity. It was awesome.
"Notice to all employees: you all have 24 hours to remove any camera sensors from your phone because you might use them to take pictures of sensitive technology."
This game will be available forever Enough people have it, and it's so easy to distribute (being a single .msi package) that you'll ALWAYS be able to find it if you want it. And it's pretty cool, for a fan game
I've fallen in love with Monster Hunter 4U lately (it really takes a while to get used to the controls and find a weapon you like and realize how important it is to mount and mount OFTEN). I'm skipping Generations so I can give 4 Ultimate the love it deserves, but I'm salivating at the prospect of the next generation of this amazing game o.o Is Monster Hunter 5 in the works? And do we think it's going to be on NX?
@Anti-Matter Pokemon and Disney Art Academy are aimed at a much younger audience, and are based on digital drawing. I really encourage you to try Art Academy: Lessons for Everyone if you want to learn more about painting realistically with more difficult lessons
That said, the production values of these games keeps going up and up. It'll be a sad day if Nintendo ever ditches touch screen tech and we lose these great creative outlets >: I love seeing kids, like my little sister, light up while drawing on her 3DS.
@KickButt_Gaming I didn't even consider whether Amie would be getting an upgrade! I really hope so, but at the same time I'm not holding my breath for it.
Honestly? I'm really excited. I think these have the potential to be my favorite games since HeartGold / SoulSilver. And in my opinion that is a TALL order. From what I've seen, special attention has been paid to making the battle mechanics feel fresher and more complex with several of the new Pokemon having two or more layers of strategy to them. The new Alola forms are awesome, and I love Team Skull Best team in a long time, looks like.
I've never played this or Persona. The closest I ever got was thinking of getting Persona Q on the 3DS, cause of how similar it looked to Etrian Odyssey. Really hope I get a chance to play them before they get too hard to find xD
I effing LOVE the new evil team. I love that they act like the wannabe hiphop gangsters that the teams have really always been at heart, and I LOVE that their music actually has faux rap in it. I'm in love with new Raichu, and I think the new battle environments look really gorgeous for the 3DS. Just look at that glistening water! Yeah, I think this could be my favorite Pokemon game in quite some time. Possibly since HeartGold.
Nice! Dual Destinies was (in my opinion) the high point in the series on a presentation and even overall storytelling front. I can't believe it gets so maligned from fans. Guys---the first PW was decent (even sometimes awesome, especially the last two cases), but JFA and TaT were kinda... really REALLY meh. Are we all just forgetting about the end of that circus case? And how the prosecutor could get away with charging a magician for murder because he was the only one with the ability to "FLY AWAY FROM THE SCENE"? I digress. This looks great, Maya is back, EMA IS BACK?!

Uh. There are flash cards that hold 512GB right now, and they're launching a 1TB SD format next year.
