Every day it seems a new game is announced for the Nintendo Switch, and we're not complaining about it at all. Sheffield-based studio Sumo Digital - perhaps best known for games like Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed - has announced that its latest project, Snake Pass, will be slithering it's way to the Nintendo Switch.
Due for release in Q1 this year, Sumo Digital has also stated that the action-puzzle game will be released across all major consoles simultaneously.
Snake Pass lets you take control of serpent "Noodle", who is attempting to traverse to the peak of "Haven Tor". Thankfully, learning Parseltongue is not required with hyperactive best friend "Doodle the Hummingbird" along for the ride. This colourful adventure focuses on "Snake Physics" to wrap, coil and climb as you restore the mystical Keystones which will enable in defeating the nefarious gate-crasher once and for all.
What do you think about Snake Pass coming to Switch? Will you learn Parseltongue? Alright, maybe not the second question...

Looks really good. Excited to see Sumo to do their own IP.
I am very much excited for this game!! Always excited to hear what Sumo Digital are working on.
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed was really good so this has potential. The video doesn't give a whole lot away but the graphics are solid. The snakes slithering looks clunky.
I originally thought it might be similar to Snake 2 on Nokia, but thankfully it looks really original. It looks really fun, I will check it out come release!
It Looks prety good. Probably buying it depending on the price
Not bothered in the least, looks slow and boring.
From a platforming standpoint, it looks kind of gimmicky and slow.
Looks like it plays good but I just can't get pass the fake Rate design.
Looks interesting and cool
YES! I have been following game this ever since it was announced. Who needs Steam? Switch, baby! Wohoo! Thank, you Sumo!
looking great
With this and Yooka-Laylee there seems to be a bit of a revival of 3D platformers. I hope both will be great.
Looksss interessssting.
I bet it will be ESsssshop gamessss....
Graphics are awesome! I'll wait for more gameplay details, but right now I'm interested.
@Anti-Matter Yep. Download only. At least for now. https://twitter.com/Snake_Pass/status/826945536443965440
Looks cool. Do you control the game with the touchscreen or an analogue stick?
@SMW
Thankssss you...
Oopsie... sorry for talking like a Snake.
I love that the description for this sounds just like an N64 game.
I can't tell if it's a normal 3D platformer but slower as you slither as a snake or some weird controlling thing like Octodad that's hard to maneuver. It almost looks like a 3D version of Hungry Giraffe, the worst game I ever played on my PS3.
Interested, but only if it controls normally.
Oh, bonus points for this:
"will be released across all major consoles simultaneously."
though that probably means I'll get it w/ PS+ like Narwhal:Just the Tip.
The gameplay most certainly appears unique. Gonna keep an eye on it.
Seems interesting
Look interesting. If the price is right
This is now definitely on my radar!
It looks nice
@rjejr Is Narwhal any good?
@dkxcalibur I don't know, I think we only get it next week, first Tuesday of the month. Looks like Runbow w/ fish so I think my kids will enjoy multiplayer and maybe I'll try a few of the challenges.
Mitch Vogel liked it, gave it a 9 out of 10.

Fresh style, looks fun. I'll read some initial reviews and if the price is right, it's a download for me!
@rjejr Well if it's like Runbow in any way, I'm in. Thanks.
I'm interested and they did a great job with Sonic Racing
Looks surprisingly good and Sumo is a great developer so this may actually be worth getting.
Looks like something that hasn't been done before. I'll be sure to check it out on the Switch.
Whats this game like? Is it a strong third party? If not is it addictive
@dkxcalibur Your welcome. I'll try to remember to get back to you when we get it.
Am I the only one who realizes the player character is venomous?
Great design outset. Looks like a lot of fun to control.
Looks good. I think price will dictate the fate of this one, more than anything.
@rjejr You're just using the control stick to move. Previews from EGX said that it was surprisingly easy to control, especially given its convoluted looking nature. The real challenge is more in navigating your way around objects than moving itself. You can tighten the snake's body with the bumpers to get more grip on objects. In a way, it's more physics based, as it relies on the friction between the snake and the objects it climbs on.
Doesn't look bad!
Can't wait for this game. Feels so N64ish and I love it.
With this and "The Jackbox Party Pack 3", I'm starting to get depressed.
@Octane "You can tighten the snake's body with the bumpers to get more grip on objects"
Thanks, certainly sounds better than Octodad then. In parts of that vid I was wondering if the left stick would move the head and the right stick the tail and we would have to try to keep both moving in a straight line w/o having the tail pass up the head. Which seemed horrible.
Now it seems more like this free never ending time sink, but in 3D. I'm a big fan of 3D.

@rjejr Nope, I believe it's just one control stick: the left stick; the right stick is probably just for controlling the camera.
More games are always welcome especially if they are quirky like this
What was that old Nintendo adage? Quality over quantity? I guess we've moved beyond that in the Switch era.
Looks great. If every new third party middle market game comes to Switch it's going to get a nice library. I really like those games vs. "AAA" which I never have enough time to play or I'd have to play in a secret cave away from kids for "mature" content that doesn't thrill me anyway.
Will make time for Zelda.
For those that don't know The Snake Pass is an infamous country road just outside Sheffield in North Derbyshire.
I love little local idioms like this, like the track Manor Top in Wip3out is named after an area of Sheffield the Designers Republic worked in.
@YANDMAN agreed.. it doesn't look like you control anything.. move the snake around and everything else does it for you.. it just looks mediocre.. best of luck to them.. I have way too many other indie type purchases on the Switch..
Huh... so much negativity I'm hearing about a game no one has played, but whatever. The gameplay looks interesting from what is shown. The visuals and animation look vibrant and smooth. I'm looking forward to hearing more.
@Mart1ndo I don't understand why... unless party games aren't 'your thing'. The Jack series of games are actually quite good and fun and it's a welcome addition to the lineup that adds breadth to the current selection. This game looks interesting as well. If they execute their core mechanic well, it too could provide something a little different to the current mix.
Has the feel of an N64 game SOLD!
@gatorboi352 You happy chap, you.
I got to play a demo of this a game festival last year - it actually feels really smooth and plays unique to any platformer I've tried
@Iggy-Koopa quite.
I would l get this only if your aloud to eat rats and animals.
This is looking great. I haven't heard of it til now. Aside from its coloration, it looks a lot like Kaa.
This reminds me of the days of Snake Rattle N Roll! I am excite!
Looks pretty interesting to me. Great developers behind it too.
@RadioHedgeFund
Yeah being from Manchester my first thought was that somebody had made a game about a road that gets closed every time the weather gets bad.
This actually looks cute af, and I loved Sonic ASR:T. The Switch is slowly but surely becoming my platform of choice for indies.
Man, I felt disappointed a couple of weeks ago about this years launch window lineup for the Switch. Slowly regaining a little bit of confidence with the confirmation of more games. I don't need big AAA 3rd party titles on the a Nintendo console. I just want fun games and a lot of choice. Looks like we're getting there.
Ok so I know this might sound like crazy talk but if I wanted to play 100 cheap thrill mobile games I'd play them on my mobile phone. You know, the one I already have right now? The ones that are free or cost, like, $5?
I'm buying a Switch because - and I know this may sound absolutely NUTS to the Kool-Aid drinkers - it's probably supposed to offer lots of awesome games that are far more evolved than those...?
Loved Sonic Racing so this is definitely on my radar.

@Smug43 yeah, Lots of people here saying it looks really interesting , im just not seeing it. i hope to be wrong and that its somehow amazing, but im not convinced.
I expected a snake clone. But it looks nice. I may get it on PS4.
Here is a bit of gameplay:
