@NewAdvent In the US, when Veteran's Day falls on a Sunday, it is observed on the following Monday instead. I'm not sure if other countries do it that way too. All I know is, I don't have class today
@rjejr I'm just saying, if you rendered New Leaf at 1080p (which you can do on an emulator), it looks pretty damn great. Crank up the texture resolution and it's probably about what the Switch game will look like.
I never got the "this better not be a port" thing with Smash Ultimate, either. It's like... What's the difference between a brand new Smash game, and a port of the last Smash game but with added characters? Basically nothing. The same is true of Animal Crossing. Whether it's a port or a brand new game, it's gonna share like 90% of its content with previous AC games. That's just how Animal Crossing works.
Oh shush. Special Pokemon have been given out for events since the very beginning, and very few events were entirely free (you'd have to buy a plane ticket in many cases, at least).
Stop trying to find a problem where there isn't one.
I don't think Switch is a replacement for 3DS. I know I've been saying that for a year and a half, but I still take my 3DS places where it would be uncomfortable to take my Switch.
@DoomTurtle You have to start making money at some point. Better to release an imperfect product than go bankrupt and ruin the lives of your fellow friends and devs.
Oh man, I used to beg my parents to take me to the Peter Piper Pizza with the Puzzle Bobble cabinet, even though it was like twice as far as the one closer to our house. I might get this just for the memories.
Also, Hamster is like the best name for a game company ever
@PanurgeJr I love when people say their console is collecting dust. It's like... yep, that's what stationary things tend to do, whether you play games on them or not xD
@SmaggTheSmug The demo doesn't do a good job at showing this, mostly because your character is outfitted in very high-level armor, but in the actual game if you just swing randomly at monsters you will die very, very quickly. The game is actually very tactical and skill based, and the combat is "clunky" on purpose: similar to a game like Deadliest Warrior, you have to pick and choose your moment to attack, because you're committing to several seconds of unskippable animation
Lol, I'm sorry for being so snarky about it. It's just that I keep hearing "oh it looks just like a 3DS game, why didn't they do anything to make it look better" over and over again, and it kinda irritates me that people don't see all the work that WAS done to it.
@roadrunner343 It's definitely not for everyone, so no pressure. However, you should definitely give this demo a try! MH4 improved a lot over MH3, and MHGU is an evolution of those improvements.
That said, MH:World is still indisputably the most beginner friendly game the series has ever had, and of course it looks better. This comes at a cost of content though (It took me just under 200 hours to complete everything in World, whereas MHGU could last you over 1000 if you get into it enough to want to finish every quest).
@Medic_alert The game's been out for several years, lol. People who weren't initially drawn in to the "unknown" aspect then aren't going to be drawn in by it now. And saying that the game transforms isn't what I would call a "massive spoiler." It's not like I said "it's okay she was just gay the whole time" or something like that
@The_Mysteron We must be looking at different games. I would go watch Digital Foundry's video on the MHGU demo, where they praise the hell out of the graphics.
@thesilverbrick The first time I tried playing MH4, I went about 20 hours before I got bored. The second time I tried playing it, I only went about 6 hours or so.
The third time I started playing it, I played it for about 600 hours within a year.
I really liked this one. I think what makes it unique is that it's kinda set up like a horror story and then becomes less of one as you learn more about what happened.
@JoakimZ Correct, EO4 and EO5 are lighter story-wise. Also, if the map-making attracts you, don't hesitate to check out Persona Q, which is a Persona / Etrian Odyssey crossover
EDIT: Although Persona Q is much more story heavy than ANY of the EO games
@Cobalt I actually have no idea how they're going to do Etrian Odyssey on Switch. It seems to me that having to go to a separate menu and use buttons to draw the map instead of just using the lower touch screen on the 3DS is going to be extremely tedious.
@JoakimZ Hey! Etrian Odyssey vet here. The games share most of their gameplay, so you an really start with any one of the 3DS games. I would recommend either Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl (a remake of the original game) or Etrian Odyssey IV (which has a unique and very cool overworld system), since those are my favorites
EDIT: Argh, beaten to the punch by Tops! Although as you can see, between us, we recommended every single game on the 3DS So yeah just start wherever you want, they're all great.
I'd be interested to know how Okami HD is doing on Switch. It's had the top spot in the download-only format charts on the eshop for nearly a week now. That's still a game I'd love to see a sequel for, especially if Capcom handed the reigns to Kamiya again.
Cuteness is an inherent part of Japanese culture. They actually adore things that are sweet and precious, unlike in America where such things are considered childish or effeminate.
@NintendoFan4Lyf While I do imagine speedrunners sometimes get sick of the games they dedicate themselves too, they also probably get to understand them better than anyone else.. possibly even more than the developers themselves!
@Zuljaras I'm gonna give the game a chance Game Freak aren't idiots and they've made some of my favorite games of all time, so I trust them on this one even if it is taking a different angle.
@Zuljaras Meowth's original english voice actor is dead unfortunately -.-
Of interesting to note, it seems like the game's music is heavily based on the remixes of Kanto music used in the anime, rather than the music from the original game (which can be quite different). I'm all for that, the anime had a brilliant soundtrack.
@Bunkerneath I don't think so, haha. PUBG never had a case. It would be like if I made a 3D platformer and then threatened to sue Nintendo when the next Mario game came out. I hardly think they would be sending me any money to keep quiet xD
Has there been any peeps about a Hatsune Miku game making it to the Switch? I think Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX for the 3DS has been my favorite button-based rhythm game ever made (with Elite Beat Agents being my favorite touch-based one).
@NinjaWaddleDee Considering such a large part of the game involves drawing your own map of the dungeons on the touch screen (people forget that the "Q" is a reference to Sekaiju no MeiQ, the Japanese name for Etrian Odyssey), I dunno how well it would work at least in docked mode.
@outsider83 I'm with @Pignot on this one actually. Yes it's nice to spotlight games that might be underappreciated, but I don't want NL to do that INSTEAD of reviewing games I already think I might want.
So, that's a difficult question. MHW brought many improvements to the formula, but they are MOSTLY visual and quality-of-life. The actual gameplay that made Monster Hunter popular in the first place has pretty much been the same in every single game, including Generations and World.
I thought this looked great in the indies trailer. I like that it doesn't seem to complicated, and sounds like it'll have a bit of an action-game / arcade feel which is refreshing to hear about in this genre.

@rjejr I mean... it won't look TOO different. The Animal Crossing art style hasn't really changed that much since Wild World.
