Seeing as how MH:World outsold every single other MH game (and, in fact, EVERY Capcom game, ever) in less than two months, I'd say they can see it's gold as a home console exclusive :/
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Also, doesn't anyone remember when "multiple sources" "confirmed" to EuroGamer that "Pokemon Stars" was coming in 2017 for the Switch? Their word means less than nothing.
Switch will get Monster Hunter 5 and 5 Ultimate. World is not 5, no matter how many times Capcom tries to say it is. This is a spin off with a twist, just like the Monster Hunter Freedom games were.
Well Netflix and Virtual Console could run in discrete processes like any other application if necessary (as in, don't make them part of the OS, just make them normal apps). Also, I doubt the system was being taxed all that much if they found enough overhead to get constant video recording working, even if it is game-specific.
@rjejr Yeah Nintendolife has been the National Enquirer of video game journalism recently, but you can't really blame them, it's been a bland couple of weeks
Only one of the three things commonly said to "prove" that this is fake actually makes any sense, and that's the fact that Mario Kart isn't taking up enough space.
The old YouTube logo isn't a problem, it's the same YouTube logo used on other game consoles to this day.
The "font discrepancy" on the storage page in settings isn't a discrepancy. Though they're similar, the fonts used for the actual title and body text on a real system are in fact different fonts.
That said, yeah this always seemed too good to be true
@manu0 The game was distributed by BN in Europe and Australia (and by WB in North America), but having a distributor doesn't stop a game from being indie. Otherwise, no game that has ever been released physically could be called an "indie," because they all use third party distributors.
@fungusar "Indie" has nothing to do with the size or scale of a game, it refers to whether or not the game is independently published. The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, for example, is an indie game, because CDPR developed and published the game independently of a major publisher.
@jimi Uhh? I've never gotten less than a full 3 hours out of my Switch, which is honestly more than I got out of the original 3DS half the time (if you don't know what that was, it was a dedicated handheld without any TV connectivity whatsoever). People like to really blow the battery life "problem" out of proportion.
The whole point of the Switch is switching between docked and undocked modes. Switching. Get it? Switch? Anyway, since external hard drives would stop working as soon as you undocked the console, it would completely undermine the entire point, not to mention the name.
@Dpishere $50? Lol, maybe if the Switch was using a mechanical hard drive (which would be a hideously bad idea in a handheld unit... one bad bump, and POOF, everything's gone).
@retro_player_22 There is no mobile device on the market with 1TB of flash storage, because the storage alone would cost hundreds of dollars. The technology you want just doesn't exist yet.
I dunno if you thought about it more, but any game that releases these days that relied on a day one update (almost exactly all of them) will become unplayable when the "servers go down." So this isn't just a problem on Switch
I think people are going to be using the term "millenials" to mean good looking college-age kids forever, without actually understanding what the word means
I can imagine @DEZn00ts and @SLIGEACH_EIRE sharing a beer
But yeah seriously, I'll take 20 amazing, creative indie titles over 10 samey action shooty AAA games any day of the week. But especially next Thursday.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Their loss. They'd have to ask themselves why their franchise is failing so miserably on the platform while others are succeeding spectacularly. They're all selling on the same Switch, so they can't blame the Switch for the discrepancy.
The biggest problem the eShop has, in my opinion, is the lack of any sort of promotional categories that bring up games from the past in related collections, like the 3DS eShop had. For now, there's no way to see a game that came out 4 months ago except to specifically search for it, which is unfortunate for indies hoping to get noticed.
God, I never want to meet the slimy 10% of people who, on a day 18 freaking games come out for a brand new system, decide that none of them are worth their curiosity. SERIOUSLY guys?!
@DanElectrode That's a common misconception, mostly due to the fact that the Xbox's CPU and GPU were clocked higher than the GameCube's (and thus has a higher floating-point calculation rate). However, comparing the two consoles on clocks alone only tells half the picture; the GameCube was capable of all sorts of visual tricks (including higher resolution bump and specular maps as seen in Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike and depth of field in games like Metroid Prime) that the Xbox was either worse at, or couldn't do at all. What the Xbox was GREAT at was processor intensive tasks like AI or rendering particle systems and fur at high frame rates (as seen in the Conker remake).
HOWEVER, in practicality, the GameCube just didn't see a lot of games that used its capabilities to the fullest (with a few exceptions), while the Xbox got technical masterpieces like Halo 2. In the end, I would say Xbox had the better looking games, even if it wasn't the most capable games machine.
@DanElectrode Believe it or not, the GameCube was the most powerful console of its generation, and by quite a large margin. I think it was hurt by the fact that it used mini discs instead of full DVDs like the PS2, and there was no digital distribution yet to get around it. But yeah if you're talking about polygons and vertex shaders, GCN had it in the bag~
@SLIGEACH_EIRE You don't have to "point out the limitations of the hardware." We all know the specs, and us grown ups have moved on and are now enjoying the Switch for its amazing games.
It could, but visual quality would have to be sacrificed. Switch doesn't have an infinite well of resources to draw pretty pictures from, so frames, resolution and quality have to be balanced.
Even on the most powerful PC in the world, you'd be able to get better image quality at 900p than at 1080p, because the resources you would have spent on resolution you can now spend on visual detail. There's ALWAYS a balance, no matter how much power you have.
Bwuh? What's with the baseless fearmongering in this article? Why not just buy and enjoy what's good (and there's a crap ton), don't buy what's not so good?
@Menchi187 Like I said, Switch wasn't born overnight. It's the product of years of careful consideration and planning. You guys seem to think they could have willy-nilly changed any part of its design with no impact on the final price.
@BlueOcean Your theory is based on pure speculation. The Switch prototype was never sold, so we don't know by how much they "reduced the price."
They don't price things arbitrarily. Switch was the culmination of years of engineering and economics. They didn't put the 32GB chip in there just to piss you off.
