Of course companies do what they can to increase profits, especially if they're publicly traded. But are you seriously suggesting that all these problems would be solved if Nintendo had just included 64GB of memory? Please. You people would still be complaining all over the place.
@Menchi187 I'm just wondering what all the non-Nintendrones suggest Nintendo should have done. What, put a hard drive in the Switch, making the weight and battery life even worse? Or put a higher capacity NAND chip, which would dramatically increase the cost (look at iPhones, which use the exact same storage module, for reference).
Seriously I wish people would think before talking.
The sub-heading should be "not everything is awesome," because "everything isn't awesome" implies that nothing is awesome, when obviously some things are.
@BlueOcean Uh, yes it can too be patched. Every game made since the PS2 days uses SOME form of compression for its assets. In fact the Vita version of Legends was compressed even more than this one. The sequence of decompression by the CPU is complicated and not simply linear; in this case, it can definitely be improved on with supplementary code. I don't know if Ubisoft cares enough to provide a patch down the line, but this is not an unfixable problem.
@speedracer216 If you focus on the negatives of every system, including PC, they all look like crap.
The glowing positives of each system are what make each one unique and worth considering. I'd focus on those personally, and Switch has a whole big bright bunch of 'em.
The game is a 25GB download WHETHER OR NOT you have the physical card. It could easily have fit onto a 32GB card; the publisher simply didn't want to pony up the dough to make it happen.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Normally I scroll down to the comments just to see your crazy pessimistic and usually delusional contribution, but let's just say that this particular decision... this is something I think we could have a beer over.
@Shellcore Poor baby. You burning too many calories clicking on three different articles? Jesus, grow up. They didn't know all of the information they've been reporting at the time the first article went up, so they weren't able to combine them. And if you're not interested in this "slow news" information, don't click on the articles. Incredibly petty problem solved.
Man @Bengals76, @Maxz just made you sound like a little baby angry that he can't have exactly what he wants right now. You gonna take that bro?
Techie whining aside, Nintendo (as usual) makes the right call here. People have to understand that developers don't just chop framerate or resolution arbitrarily. The reason that games aren't always 1080p and 60fps, even on the most powerful consoles, is because the power available isn't infinite. Resolution, frame rate, top visual quality. In most cases as a dev you only get to pick two.
@invictus4000 In my opinion, the "normal" difficulty is incredibly easy, once you leave the plateau. I have a feeling that Master Mode is closer to what the developers originally wanted the game to feel like. And it's not maddening at all, you just don't have complete free reign of all corners of Hyrule right away like you do in normal mode.
I keep hearing that "hard mode and hero's path mode should have been in there on day one." Okay, well then day one wouldn't have been March 3rd. You guys have to accept a compromise somewhere.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'll always take a couple amazing games over a hundred samey or mediocre ones. Switch is building one of the best libraries in the history of game consoles, and it's only been out three months!
I'm sad to think that after dual screen devices are put out to pasture, so will Etrian Odyssey be. It's one of my favorite gaming franchises of all time ;-;
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'm glad you enjoyed Zelda so much But actually, Disgaea 5 Complete would cost you MORE on PSN than Switch if you bought it digitally (although you could probably find the PS4 version cheaper in stores), because you also have to buy all the DLC (and the season pass is still USD$30).
It's tempting to call Nintendo "out of touch" when in reality, they're operating at a level somewhere beyond our individual opinions. They want to make waves, not just make a few hardcore gamers happy. Best of luck to the Switch and Nintendo's future experiments.
@NewAdvent Believe it or not, publishers would rather make less graphically-intense games for the Switch. They're kinda forced to invest in ultra-expensive ultra-shiny games right now because that's where the money is (and honestly I think games this generation have suffered as a consequence).
@daveh30 Get it if you like both rhythm games and being creeped the hell out. Seriously, wear headphones, turn out the lights and crank the bass. You'll have a great time
@gatorboi352 I have Zelda, Shovel Knight, Fast RMX and Puyo Puyo Tetris, and I'm getting Mario Kart tomorrow. I bet the Switch will sell well along with Mario Kart, but we all know that's only cause of Mario Kart hype. It'll probably sell well when Splatoon 2 comes out as well, but you know that'll probably just be because of Splatoon hype. And don't get me started about the holiday hype. Man, I bet the Switch sells well during the holidays but it's just gonna be because of the hype.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I think you just might be projecting your own personal preferences on everyone, which is a bit of a mistake in my opinion.
Also, it's important to remember that even at its peak, gaming was incredibly niche, a hobby that less than 1% of the human population partook in. The Xbox One and PS4 face the same problem that the hardcore pool is shrinking fast. It's not just Nintendo's problem
I love the argument that Switch is only selling well because of Zelda.
Because of course it is. That's the whole point of buying a new console, isn't it? Great games? What do you buy a GAMES console for if not for GAMES hype? I wonder if when the Switch is selling through the roof this holiday season, people will be saying it's only because of Skyrim hype, and Xenoblade hype, and Mario Odyssey hype.
@GameOtaku Except they can only make them so fast. The factories have physical limits, dude. Nintendo can't do anything about the Switch selling faster than they can make them.
MK8's frame rate issue wouldn't be noticeable if it was literally running at 59 fps, that is, 59 frames spread evenly over a second.
HOWEVER! That's not what it was. It was 60 fps for 59/60 of a second, and 0 fps for 1/60 of a second, every second. That's what caused the "microstuttering."
@GameOtaku "How can one make money if you don't sell?"
In case you skipped the article, they're selling craptons. The reason you can't find one in stores is BECAUSE they're selling so well. Higher numbers in the first month than either the PS4 or Xbox One had to deal with.
I'm rooting for ARMS, but I probably won't buy it. I've never been very into 1v1 games or fighting games in general (not even Pokken Tournament really changed my mind). Splatoon on the other hand is right up my alley and I'll be having withdrawls until July.
I've only run out of battery once, and it was the day after launch and my first time playing Zelda Since then, I haven't had a chance to play more than three hours at a time, and whenever I'm not playing, the thing's charging.
THAT SAID, I'm glad battery boosters are being developed. I'm sure many people have more free time than I do.
You people who say "I refuse to play this unless it's at least 1080p" are not gamers. You are tech junkies. Which is fine--to each their own--but you're complaining on the wrong website.
Thank god I'm not anal about things like anti-aliasing. I feel like I enjoy games a lot more than many of my friends because I just don't give a crap if a game doesn't have all the latest graphical bells and whistles.
@JayPley Yeah but what choice do you have? No other piece of hardware is set up to do what the Switch does. And anything that WAS set up to do what the Switch does would last just as long or even less, because battery technology sucks. The reason your phone battery lasts 14 hours is because it's not rendering a massive open world constantly.
Umm... They let you take iPads and laptops on planes, and they have WAAAAAY bigger batteries than the Switch. The latest iPad has an almost 12,000mAh battery I think.

@BlueOcean Would you have paid $100 extra for 64GB memory? Because that's the pricing model Apple uses, and likely the one Nintendo would.

No. On a system where Breath of the Wild runs at a mostly stable 30fps, there is no excuse for a top-down shooter in little rooms to run below that.
