Golden Sun, and especially its lead protagonist Isaac, has seen an awful lot of love and attention over the last few months thanks to countless Super Smash Bros. Ultimate rumours; many believed that Isaac would become a playable character in the game thanks to various speculation efforts shared online, but the most recent Direct proved that this wasn't the case. Still, that hasn't stopped fans of his original game taking to the likes of social media to celebrate all things Golden Sun - and asking for a new entry in the series, no less.
Yesterday was the 17th anniversary of the original Golden Sun game in North America, causing fans to rebrand the day as '#GoldenSunday' and share their memories and wishes online for all to see. This Game Boy Advance RPG was heavily praised when it first arrived on the scene and remains a much-loved game to this day - no doubt being one of the reasons why fans were so desperate to see Isaac in Smash in the first place.
You can see just a small selection of the messages shared online below.
As you can see, it even sparked a second #BringGoldenSunBack trend, too.
Are you a fan of Golden Sun? Would you like to see the franchise make a comeback? Feel free to share your thoughts and memories on the franchise in the comments below.

Good for them. I played Golden Sun 1 and part of GS2 some years ago, I didn't think they were anything to get all that excited about.
Never played them, but they looks like my type of game, will have to look out for them.
Especially if they port them or create a collection for Switch
@NewAdvent I took part in it and there was a general agreement we would honor Remembrance Sunday as well. (We all discussed this in the Discord to make sure we didn't cause trouble)
After all, it was also the 100th anniversary since Poland got its independence!
It was a day for celebrating a lot. I'm just glad the Golden Sun fandom was a good egg on the day
I bought Golden Sun on GBA cause i saw it on a store and loved the cover...Didn't expect it to be that good with next-level graphics and such a compelling story. Ok i admit that the element of Djinn wasnt really needed. It was poor man's pokemon. But everything else was brilliant. Saturos and Menardi were great villains.
Golden sun, loved it for real.
Please bring one for the switch!
Golden sun was the reason I bought a GBA,love the game and was so disappointed they left it on a cliff hanger. Bring it back!
Clicked on the link because I thought Binding of Isaac, no way would they put him in smash I thought, I was right.... tears
Played it on the Wii U virtual console, absolutely loved the games. Though the dijinn mechanic was kinda bonkers. On the one hand if you had them equipped you were a little stronger, but if you used them up then you could do crazy assed summons and super powerful attacks. So the battle system was kind of a hot mess, but it was still so much fun to play. I'd LOVE for them to make either a sequel or a remaster of them for Switch.
always thought his character was too 'Link'-ish anyway in appearance and since in a game like SSB where story is irrelevant, his character seems a bit redundant, (just opinion)
Loved those games ,but think the best we can hope for is maybe a port of all 3 games. Maybe with an boost of the grapics
I remember this game was one of the selling points for me getting a Gameboy Advance. Part 3 was fan service as far as I'm concerned as the core of the story was wrapped up in part one and two. But one thing about stories, there's always another way to do a continuation. I'll at least say that it could use a rerelease for those that never played it as it's still a fun RPG from Camelot.
@Nemodius Eh, I don't see the resemblance, and hey, they could then just get rid of all the actual Link variants(toon, etc).
Just by using his Venus psynergy moveset, for one, would've definitely made him a different character to play.
It's a BIG shame he obviously isn't making the cut now when we have a million frickin Fire Emblem sword people and the like, but I guess it is what it is... at least they fleshed out his Move Psynergy for the assist a bit more it seemed.
This game is looking pretty meh now, but it's whatevs. 🤦🏾♂️
One of the most underrated series...
Great games! Even the DS one!
I am so glad #GoldenSunday was a success. Thanks to anyone who joined us!
The outpouring love for the franchise by all the fans was very heartwarming to see.
@Lalivero
it is his appearance, he looks very much like a (my EXACT words) "Link"-ish, which also is supported by what you said also
Too many Link variants also, at least Zelda and Sheik, though TECHNICALLY the same person, their physical appearance totally set them apart, hell, took me a while playing Zelda before I realized Sheik was even a girl much less the Princess herself
so anotther, slender, young dirty blond elf looking boy is not necessary (I also added the word "OPINION", not fact, so it would be clear I was speaking ONLY for myself and not even a presumed minority that may agree with me)
Remember guys just cause Isaac isn't going to be playable in Smash Ultimate doesn't mean these two won't be. Let's hope that at least one of them is lucky enough to be pick by Nintendo.
@NewAdvent Mate I had to work overnight in a department I'm not trained in to fix someone else's mess until 5am, on the anniversary of one of the biggest events in world history.
Still observed the occasion while doing other things
@NewAdvent In the US, when Veteran's Day falls on a Sunday, it is observed on the following Monday instead. I'm not sure if other countries do it that way too. All I know is, I don't have class today
I just finished replaying the lost age and I remember it still being an amazing experience especially by the end, when Isaac says some really heavy words fighting the final boss.
"Enough. I knew what I was doing the moment I raised my sword."
Ironically, I started playing The Lost Age this past weekend. I had some password troubles (Wii U VC, so no link cable) but eventually got everything going. I played the original Golden Sun early last year and really enjoyed it.
As much as I like the Djinn mechanic, I do agree that it probably could have been executed better. Other than that, I highly recommend these to any JRPG fan.
Seven years between Lost Age and Dark Dawn. Eight years since Dark Dawn those kind of numbers mean it’s compilation or remake time.
Isaac would've been swell to play as in Smash ultimate, at least he's in the game in some form rather than being missing all together like in Smash 4.
These fans handled Isaac being an assist trophy a hell of a lot better than Waluigi fans
I would very much like the next installment. I actually liked Dark Dawn more then I thought I would, given its reputation when it came out. And it left us on a cliffy. One of my favorite rpgs ever.
I also didn't know djinn were that teensy. I always imagined they would be pug-sized or something.
@Nemodius
Don't see how, considering he can summon djinn, use earth based elemental attacks and call upon summons loosely based off of deities and mythological creatures.
Link can't do that now can he?
Judgement would make an excellent final smash.
I'd especially prefer if we got one of each adept. Though I'd far prefer the TLA crew over the GS1 crew. I like Jenna, Felix, Sheba and Piers a little more then Isaac, Garret, Ivan and Mia.
@Tempestryke
did i not Clearly enough and repetitively enought reiterate my "OPINION" had NOTHING TO DO WITH ABILITIES, JUST HIS APPEARANCE BEING TOO SIMILAR TO LINK or "Link"-ish being my EXACT WORD !!!
and also REPEATEDLY say it was an "O.P.I.N.I.O.N."
no need to go overboard trying to defend poor Isaac yo !!!
(also an "OPINION")
@LasermasterA
I owe you an apology for this one - despite my promises and my best intentions, I found myself unable to join in yesterday: I got an on-call job alongside nineteen fellow workers last thursday, mainly doing some packaging for one single lot of bluetooth headphones amounting to a whopping 50000 pieces that need to be shipped in the entire Piedmont region for the Holiday season. The work went on friday, and after a weekend break, earlier today; the contract lasts until this upcoming wednesday. Needless to say, my body is not used to standing up for eight hours straight, and I ended up with severe narcolepsy throughout the entire break. I barely set foot on NL even as a mere lurker. So again, I'm sorry. But I'm also glad this brilliantly-named initiative turned out successful.
@NewAdvent lol come on. After the 11 o'clock ceremonies it was just like any other day. No reason to stop everything because it was Remembrance Day. Football was even played at 12pm.
@AlexSora89
Ouch that sounds like a lotta work, I hope you're well now. And it's okay, you can take part in any future fan events that might happen! I'm just glad that we got such a positive response by Golden Sun fans all over the world!
@LasermasterA
Me too, that's all that matters after all!
@Nemodius
Im not going overboard. I'm just pointing out he's nothing like Link. In fact, he doesn't even look like Link. Take a chill pill.
I keep reiterating it is just "Opinion", you're the one who keeps on, you drop it, I already have
In high school a friend let me borrow his copy of Golden Sun and as soon as I started playing, I was hooked. Been a fan of the series ever since.
It's a shame there's no Golden Sun 4 in the foreseeable future; even more so that not one character made it in Smash as a fighter (I thought maybe Sveta from Dark Dawn).
I can see Issac being pretty awesome to play as in Smash. Just play Super Smash Flash 2 if you need proof!
This is one of my favourite game series of all time. I remember putting in countless hours in to the first two games on my GBA and the third on my DS. I even re-bought the games on the Wii U Virtual Console. I hope Nintendo brings this franchise back, the Switch would be a perfect fit for not only a remastered Trilogy to celebrate the past games but also to put out a new 4th game!
I would love a 4th game
