Re: Feature: What We Expect from Nintendo Direct - 3rd March

Socar

I'm really curious about this? Hasn't anyone in the slightest noticed the incredible absence of a load of Mario Spin off games unlike last gen?

For instance, where's Wario Ware? Where's the main wario game? Where's a brand new Donkey Kong game spinoff like Jungle Climber?

We also haven't seen many platform games on the 3DS unlike the Wii U......so where are those platform games?

Re: Video: New Bloodstained Development Update Blurs The Line Between 3D And 2D Art

@GraveLordXD Then he shouldn't have made a teaser that forced kickstarting to make it into reality.

He should have taken some time showing even very early gameplay footage( And I'm talking about actual gameplay footage, not some concept art that describes it) as much as possible and then opened a kickstarter.

All we had for the kickstarter trailer is just him acting like some big shot claiming that he wanted this and that to happen and just showed some pieces of paper of art.

Hideo Kojima did better than him and instead partnered with Sony to make his own studio and his own game without relying on Kickstarters. That's what he should have done instead of brainwashing us that he's gonna make a great game.

@GoshDangTravino Answer me this. How much of money would you donate concept arts that you won't know how the real game would turn out? like 25$? 50$? 100$? You'd be crazy to donate that kind of money for just concept art alone. Even 15$ is too much.

But ok, somehow you make up your mind and donate whatever money he makes you donate. Now here's the biggest risk you take. You don't know whether or not you end up getting you're money's worth. Why? Because its kickstarter. Its not a guarantee that the game will happen.

Infact many devs failed to make their games happen even when kickstarting their games. Dizzy failed to reach the goal and we'll never see another Dizzy game.

Half Genie Hero didn't reach Wayforward's expectations when they kickstarted it but they still decided to make the game happen for some reason.

By encouraging devs to do this kind of tactic, you're taking them for granted and letting them do stuff that you don't want them to do. Not every dev is going to make use of the money you or anyone donated projects on. You don't even get that money back which is hopeless.

But ok, I'm too negative here so I'll just say this. Its good to be hyped about something like this but don't expect it to really happen. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Re: Video: New Bloodstained Development Update Blurs The Line Between 3D And 2D Art

@Captain_Toad That's just it. Anybody who has been praised for masterpieces are taken for granted that they don't have to do something simply like gameplay footage or actual screenshots of games.

Perfect example I can come up with is Sonic Boom. Big Red Button had staff who worked on Jak and Daxter. Sanzaru games are famous for bringing out the Sly Cooper trilogy on Vita.

Despite that fact, Boom ended up being bad. Just because you're damn famous doesn't mean you can slack off and ignore things that matter for games. Developing hype and giving promise. Bloodstained doesn't sound all that promising because of the lack of footage that is here. And the game is suppose to be released this year and no footage? Some luck.

Re: Video: New Bloodstained Development Update Blurs The Line Between 3D And 2D Art

Socar

@GoshDangTravino You know why? Because its Koji Igarashi, the same guy that made Symphony of the Night and Dawn of Sorrow.

He's purposefully showing off his talent and doesn't really care what gamers want. How the hell can you be certain that the game will do well if we can't see some damn footage? Even Shenmue 3 and Yokalaee are better than this and those games were started.

You defending him for making a quality game and yet you don't see any footage whatsoever isn't promising nor is it worth even watching. Gamers want footage and footage itself judges the gamers decision whether to buy the game or not.

People will never be happy whatever games are being released. Skyward Sword was awesome when it released but in the end, now people hate every moment of it. Release something like Phantom Hourglass and people despise it.

I wish I can satisfy everyone and I'm sure that's what game developers would want but unfortunately, that's never going to happen because games are a subjective taste just like everything else. Its sad that no matter how much developers do, they can't satisfy the audience in anyway possible.

Re: Fire Emblem Developers on How the Series Can Maintain its Momentum

Socar

@Caryslan But path of radiance wasn't even finished and it barely sold well. Sure, it proved the value that the Good ol gamecube was but in the end, it didn't do well.

You do realize that Conquest seems ideal for you right? Infact that's what I'm getting too.

Sacred Stones having multiple paths is not as different as Birthright or Conquest but then again, you can't please everyone like @Soren so enjoy ranting about things you don't like in Fire Emblem while everyone and myself included will get Fates.

Re: Fire Emblem Developers on How the Series Can Maintain its Momentum

Socar

@Einherjar "No, what about the Direct from Jan. 14. 2015 ? Where Iwata talks about the game and the choices you make in this game. Never did they mention these games or the choice which game to pick"

What was revealed was a trailer. After which news had spread immediately from Japan that the game was split into two games.

And like he said, its only a few exceptions which you have listed The rest of them were not really all that long.

@Frank90 I feel you pal. IS really hit a true gem here considering that its one of the only strong IP's they have.

Re: Fire Emblem Developers on How the Series Can Maintain its Momentum

Socar

@Einherjar But you still need them both inorder to unlock the final story for both those games whether you get the password or not. Funny how you claim that Ages & Seasons have independent stories and yet you say the complete opposite for Fates. The reviewers have never stated that you need to get all three of them inorder to get the ultimate experience.

What's also funny is how you say that you can get the other companion game from a buddy....um....can't you also do that for Fates except the password thing? After all, that's the whole point of physical copies right?

The fact that the main games are more fun than the actual stories just proves that you don't need the stories to enjoy it.

Or in your case, the fact that the content is cut so that you can decide which one to get rather than getting them both for the same price is dumb because it feels like you don't get you're money's worth.

Even if Nintendo somehow decided to make both games in one at a cheap price, that still won't change the fact that there will be people who will not like the game for what it is simply because if they choose a path that they thought would be fun but in the end, it turns out that they didn't like it so it still makes more of a personal rant that you don't get your money's worth.

Actually, not that many gamers have a lot of patience when playing these types of games which is why TRPG's are niche games. That could also further explain why the division itself is needed even though it pains me to realize this fact.

Also, who said that 50 hours is the standard length for JRPG's? You clearly haven't played a lot of them where majority of them are lower than 50 Hours (Chrono Trigger? Bowser's inside story? Pokemon? Golden Sun?)

And even then, you're mistaking the fact that Fire Emblem is an SRPG which means simulation RPG not a JRPG. That's even so for games like Sakura Wars which is mainly focused on simulation.

As for lack of dual audio and censorship, every Nintendo fan who knows NoA should have seen it coming as they are infamous for censoring things and removing other things that NCL does.

Remember how NoA removed hard mode on Fusion which remains a Japanese exclusive? its for things like this that you can't blame Nintendo's doing but rather NoA's doing.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai's 500th Famitsu Column is Coming Up

Socar

My question would be why couldn't we get Chrom in Smash even though he answered it.

I somehow get the feeling that he's not gonna like Nintendo's policies and soon, he'd betray Nintendo and just focus on Kickstarter.

I don't know. I just like Miyamoto-San way of making games than Sakurai-San. I don't see how he is praised more than Miyamoto-san simply because the latter did bigger things than what this guy did when forming his own studio which only has one employee there which is Masahiro Sakurai himself.

Re: Fire Emblem Developers on How the Series Can Maintain its Momentum

Socar

@Einherjar The approach in Fates is far better than being episodic which would have made the game content wise far worse.

Explain Oracle of Ages & Seasons then. You need both the games inorder to get the ultimate ending. That's not the case here in Fates as you get an ending based on which side you choose.

Combine 25+ hours for both the fate games and you get 50 hours which is something that not everyone is willing to spend huge time on just to play both games. When they beat one side, do you honestly expect them to pick the other one immediately? No. Because this is strategy and strategy requires a lot of thinking. I'll be fine just picking one side and wait for the time to try out the other sides.

Re: Fire Emblem Developers on How the Series Can Maintain its Momentum

Socar

@Einherjar That's the problem many felt about Awakening. I personally love the characters from Awakening and I love the game being that its the first fire emblem game I've played. But veteran gamers didn't like how the story is, how the game is even played.

Heck, this angry guy clearly hates the game even though he had a fun time with it.

http://thephilosogamer.blogspot.com/2014/07/fire-emblem-awakening-second-coming.html

Also I'm just curious. Just how broadening the audience will kill franchises? That's what happened to Metroid in the first place. Nintendo decided to make the series linear from Fusion onwards to appeal to more gamers. I heard that there is an arrow in the prime games that will lead you to the direction you're suppose to go if you take too long.

Look let's get one thing clear. Fire Emblem isn't exactly a killer franchise like Mario, Pokemon and Zelda. Infact, the series itselt fits for a small audience even though it pains me to say this. So having ways for all people to play the game will help make the series more acceptable to newcomers and veterans.

For instance, I'm really doubtful that I would have gotten awakening if it weren't for the casual mode. I am gonna play again on casual mode for conquest not because I can't play the game on classic because trust me, I've played a bit of Genealogy of holy war and I had a fun time with it having huge maps.

Its just that I like the characters there better than Birthright and it has different things to do. I mean, I played Awakening so even if I'd want to get Birthright, the fact that it sounds too similar to Awakening just makes me want to get Conquest even more.

But anyways, we should be happy that because IS made Fire Emblem more accessible, the series can go bigger than it is now.

Re: Review: Fire Emblem Fates (3DS)

Socar

I got a question.

Is conquest made so that it can be beatable or is it something like if you're units are extremely weak, you can't make any more progress?

I want to get Conquest first and then Birthright since Birthright sounds like its the same as Awakening interms of what you do.

Re: Investment Expert Talks Nintendo's Yo-Yo Share Value, Potential Acquisitions And NX's Chances Of Success

Socar

Their stock will double if they make games on other hardware? I mean seriously, Sony and Microsoft would rather stick with their IP instead of forcing Nintendo to make their IP on their systems simply because it would hurt not just Nintendo's image but also Sony and Microsoft as well.

But I agree overall. It looks like Nintendo can simply just be dominant in the handheld market and that alone can make them a fortune.

Re: Video: Here's What Final Fantasy IX Looks Like On The New Nintendo 3DS

Socar

@JaxonH @Peace-Boy You do realize that porting games on all platforms is a bit costly right?

Also, remember how lazily they ported Final Fantasy games on Steam with the exception of 7? I can't believe they were that dumb to make a lazy port of Final Fantasy 6 on steam let alone have hopes of them porting it to PS4, Vita or 3DS!

Re: VIDEO: 7th Dragon III Code: VFD Wants You to Know Dragons are Dangerous

Socar

@arronishere But Fire Emblem doesn't have a continuation story unlike this one and it happened because it put the characters in Smash and because of how Advance wars did. And this isn't exactly what many would want to get. It looks average and it doesn't look like it'll be fun.

Ok so they are beginning to localize games, so what? That still doesn't change the fact that they need to deliver quality over quantity which I'm very doubtful that they will do at this point or even forever.

Re: Talking Point: The Time is Right for a Nintendo Direct

Socar

@IceClimbers Actually, its the exact opposite. Since Nintendo themselves has said that they want to release more software for the next fiscal year for the 3DS, the direct would pretty much be helpful in that regard. Also, there's Rhythm Heaven and other games that have yet to be revealed like Federation Force for instance?
