It's Media Create charts time for Japan once again, and this week brings some smaller new releases and some modest (but still welcome) gains for Nintendo hardware.
The big winner this week is Kamen Rider: Battride War Genesis, which claimed top spot on PS4 along with 3rd and 4th on Vita and PS3. The retail release of Mega Man Legacy Collection on 3DS has done relatively well to debut in second place, and the only other game on Nintendo hardware in the top 10 is Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in 6th place on 3DS. Ultimately Nintendo's evergreen releases continue to be pushed out by newer games on rival systems, with not enough new titles currently arriving to break into the top 10; results are below with lifetime sales in brackets.
- [PS4] Kamen Rider: Battride War Genesis (Bandai Namco, 02/25/16) – 33,195 (New)
- [3DS] Mega Man Legacy Collection (Capcom, 02/25/16) – 23,942 (New)
- [PSV] Kamen Rider: Battride War Genesis (Bandai Namco, 02/25/16) – 22,303 (New)
- [PS3] Kamen Rider: Battride War Genesis (Bandai Namco, 02/25/16) – 22,280 (New)
- [PSV] Attack on Titan (Koei Tecmo, 02/18/16) – 22,178 (84,290)
- [3DS] Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games (Nintendo, 02/18/16) – 22,032 (63,768)
- [PSV] Kan Colle Kai (Kadokawa Games, 02/18/16) – 21,587 (162,344)
- [PS4] Attack on Titan (Koei Tecmo, 02/18/16) – 16,803 (77,959)
- [PS3] TV Anime The Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls G4U! Pack Vol. 9 (Bandai Namco, 02/25/16) – 12,792 (New)
- [PS4] Street Fighter V (Capcom, 02/18/16) – 11,206 (53,196)
- [PSV] Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm Standard Edition (Sprite, 02/25/16) – 10,189 (New)
- [PS3] Attack on Titan (Koei Tecmo, 02/18/16) – 10,013 (37,428)
- [Wii U] Splatoon (Nintendo, 05/28/15) – 9,378 (1,270,149)
- [PSV] Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition (SCE, 03/19/15) – 8,251 (676,254)
- [PSV] Dragon Quest Builders (Square Enix, 01/28/16) – 8,008 (270,190)
- [3DS] Monster Hunter X (Capcom, 11/27/15) – 7,356 (2,698,831)
- [PSV] Hero Must Die (NIS, 02/25/16) – 7,018 (New)
- [PS4] Ikenie to Yuki no Setsuna (Square Enix, 02/18/16) – 6,619 (40,248)
- [3DS] Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final (Atlus, 02/10/16) – 6,559 (117,316)
- [3DS] Yo-kai Watch Busters: Red Cat Team / White Dog Squad (Level-5, 07/11/15) – 6,345 (2,217,048)
The hardware news is relatively pleasing. The 3DS 'family' is still second overall (with the 3DS LL / XL in third place on its own), and these results show all but the original LL model gaining sales. The Wii U had a small recovery, too, moving up to fourth in the process. Results are below with last week's sales in brackets.
- PlayStation 4 – 26,502 (29,363)
- PlayStation Vita – 17,368 (22,191)
- New 3DS LL – 17,257 (16,533)
- Wii U – 5,392 (3,902)
- New 3DS – 4,944 (4,363)
- 3DS – 2,694 (2,427)
- PlayStation 3 – 1,493 (1,665)
- 3DS LL – 550 (569)
- Xbox One – 60 (162)
A relatively quiet week, all told, though hardware sales are holding momentum nevertheless.

Fight, MegaMan! For everlasting peace!!!
Vita figures seem pretty good
Man splatoon is still on the charts. It just keeps chugging along.
There is no way we won't see a Splatoon game NX in the future.
Nintendo won't pass up the chance to make another series that sells similarly to Mario/Smash/Animal Crossing/Pokemon
Where is the 2DS?
@rferrari24 lumped in with 3DS or 10th
Licensed titles seem to sell at lot better in Japan than here.
Although that Kamen Rider game does appear to be a dynasty warriors style game, which are popular over there.
Weak software sales overall.
I still can't get over the title of this article
60 xbox one sold. 60! That's less than 10 per day! I bet you they're Japanese eBay resellers who sell more used famicom systems per week than Microsoft does xbones. And I own an xbone, great console in my opinion, but it is a total failure in Japan. Imagine the Microsoft local Xbone team...what do that do all day long? Is there even customer support, for the maximum10-20 calls, they must get per day?!
Nintendo....get Capcom. It'll fix all the problems that gamers have towards Capcom with you on their side!
Xbox deserves an award for those sales
@BinaryFragger That is amazing, especially since the Vita's shelf space in NA is virtually non-existent.
I know the system bombed in the west, but I wonder if Sony will try their hand with another handheld due to its success in Japan.
Hmmm. Just got Battride war II (Features Gaim as the lead) so I'll hold off on Genesis, even though it does feature the Showa era Riders.
The Super Fighting Robot is still fighting to save the world.... from Donald Trump.
I'm glad the blue bomber is doing well. Espically since that's priced $15 in the eshop.
Fighting to save the world!
Wii U hardware goes up by almost 1500 units. If it was at PS4 numbers before, that would be a 'small recovery'.
Compared to last week, this is a 40% bump.
Which I would call, I don't know, a promising turn? Maybe a considerable spike?
Considering 80% of the systems saw declines, I'd celebrate the small victory.
@NodesforNoids The Wii U was still in 4th place with 5000 consoles sold, when the other consoles sold tens of thousands, with no Wii U games in the top 10 and only one in the top 20. Calling that any sort of victory is just delusional.
And that goes for Nintendolife with their misinformative title too. "Nintendo Hardware Sales Climb"? Seriously.
I've never really understood why Nintendo being a Japanese company doesn't foster better relationships with Japanese devs. You would think the likes of the Kamen Rider games and the Attack on Titan game in the charts for Sony systems would sell well on Nintendo systems.
If they could sort that support out, they would completely clean up in Japan.
