In late 2015, Nintendo finally lifted the lid on the new account program that it had announce much earlier. It was revealed that it would be called 'My Nintendo' and that it would aim to unify gamers' experiences across different platforms. While the account system still has yet to be rolled out, Nintendo has opted to get a head start by offering customers the option to register for their account now.
Follow this link, and you can either create a new account from scratch, or pair an existing NNID, Google+, Twitter, or Facebook account. The process is extremely simple and shouldn't take more than a few minutes. Once logged in, you can see a status screen that shows basic information such as what accounts you've linked and what email you're using. Assumedly, this will also function as a place where you can keep track of purchases, points, and more when the full system goes live, but only time will tell.
What do you think? Are you looking forward to the new account system? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

I hope this takes off and is better than Club Nintendo!
All regions?
I made my account already with my NNID, but only through that way. Turns out there's some unsettling stuff in their "Policies & Terms of Agreement", so I'd probably tell people not to make an account using their social media accounts.
EDIT: Here's a statement that has me worried (open image in new tab / link to enlarge picture):
Sure this statement is true across all companies, but Nintendo has had a reputation of having their systems hack pretty easily (and certain websites on few occasions). I just hope they know what they're doing with their security.
Done n_n so easy!
@Shirma_Akayaku O_O as in? I just linked my Twitter...
Well signing up certainly was quick. I just used my NNID.
@The__Goomba No, just the first 16 countries where Miitomo will be released
Can you preregister Miitomo yet? That was supposed to be today too
So, I went through and linked my NNID to it, but it needs me to input the verification code. That code STILL hasn't come through my email for around half an hour. I get other Nintendo emails to that email with no issue, and it is typed in correctly. Anyone else running into this?
The process was pretty smooth
When I try to link my NNID I don't get an email with a verification code. More frustrating than it needs to be...
If you're not getting your verification code, try resending the code.
It worked for me the second time around.
Why does the username has to be at least 10 characters long? Why can't I keep things as simple as Chaoz?
It was a smooth process for me and pretty quick and easy. I went as far as linking my Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ accounts since it was so simple lol.
To those who said you haven't received the email with the code, I don't know why that may be or anything. But double check your spam folder, some times my emails end up there for some odd reason. This one came through normal for me, but just throwing that out there, wouldn't hurt.
One more thing, preregistration for Miitomo is having issues. This is the link for it, but clicking the second link within the first for information brings you to the site with a lock screen. It's an issue for some people, not all.https://accounts.nintendo.com/term_pointDon't try to enter using your My Nintendo account. I tried, it didn't work. Also, going tohttps://miitomo.com/brings you to a dead page with "File not found."EDIT: Looks like preregistration for Miitomo is working now.
@Shirma_Akayaku I must have resent the email like 20 times. Still didn't work...
So annoying!
@Shirma_Akayaku can't be worse than sony and ms who also get hacked on the regular. Welcome to the digital age.
Awesome! What does this mean?
@Shirma_Akayaku So I finally got a verification code afterusing my third email. Wonder why nothing was happening for the first two emails... shrugs
Eh, at least it should be working now.
@Ryu_Niiyama I just really, really hope Nintendo doesn't get hacked. I know they're not targeted as much as Sony or MS, but My Nintendo is in it's early stages, so we can only hope for the best.
@Vee_Flames I'm assuming a lot of people are trying to get their codes, so that's why it might be taking a long time. At least you got yours.
Woops I already made a Nintendo account using my JP NNID and both my NA and JP accounts use the same email. Thankfully it seems I can change email of the Nintendo Account, though I wonder if that'll affect the email registered with the JP NNID...
It didn't work for me at first, but I guess that was because the email I used with my Japanese Nintendo account was the same as the one on my Canadian NNID. Worked after I changed my Japanese account's email.
@AVahne I had done that too, but it is fine if you change your Japanese account email to a different one.
Big first step. Looking forward to using the new system.
@Shirma_Akayaku
"Preregistration complete! Stay tuned for the Miitomo launch.
I clicked the pre-register tab, and that's what I was greeted with. Looks like it worked for me, unless this was a glitch...
@Chaoz I didn't need to enter a username,it picked up my Mii name automatically when I chose "Link NNID".I didn't need to enter any information actually,my details must have already been saved from Miiverse on my browser.
Edit: Actually that's my nickname ,not username.
I noticed it doesn't let you change your country of residence.I find that a bit strange.
Edit: Now it's letting me change it after logging out and back in again. It was greyed out before.Nevermind!
It let me create an account and pre-register for Miitomo.
@yokokazuo
Yeah seems so. Problem is, I kinda flarped and ended up disconnecting my JP NNID to my JP Nintendo Account, so now I gotta remember what my password was on the JP account and reconnect the JP accounts back again.
Okay, if it helps anyone, I was able to get through with the registration. I ended up needing to change my email in my profile that was attached to my NNID.
@Shirma_Akayaku and so do Sony, MS, Google, Facebook. Enterprise security is never "easy" to hack btw. If you have 500 skilled hackers trying to hack a particular server at a time, it's fairly likely one of them will find a small flaw, that they then turn into a big one. Don't see why that would concern you.
Will there be an app for Nintendo account?
Would be nice if at some point they let people link multiple NNIDs from different regions. ONE account to manage all my NNIDs and reap all the rewards no matter what system I'm playing would be nice.
@AVahne So, you can't use the same epost for both accounts?
It's worth mentioning that apparently not all the confirmed countries are supported right now.
@Monado_III It would concern me if my personal information got stolen. Wouldn't that concern you in the slightest if your personal information got stolen?
Registered with no issues.
@90sRetroGaming Looks like it started working for me now. Maybe the website wasn't ready at the time the site was found. It was probably too early and that's why there was a lock-screen.
just finished registering myself. haven't bothered forming an opinion yet though, because we can't do anything with it right now.
@Chaoz It is: my name is Rei.
@Chaoz It is: my name is Rei.
@Chaoz It is: my name is Rei.
so odd. i got access denied, then decided to make a new account. since the browser saves all the fields, it just used all the ones for my actual nnid and it worked. i just created something that already existed. how existentialist.
@Vee_Flames check your spam/junk...thats where mine got sent to...took about 5 mins and then saw the 4 messages due to resends
Yey
Joyous, looks like e-mail login is [lower]case-sensitive.
"This Nintendo Network ID cannot currently
be used due to its country setting."
Not in Finland, eh?
Well, it's not available in my country as of now. I'll need to wait like every non first world country
@Luffymcduck Not in Norway either.
@Shirma_Akayaku Spoiler alert: by now, your personal information has probably already been stolen. Quick googling comes up with a total number of breached records over time at somewhere between 800 million over the last 10 years, and 3 billion over the last 3 years. Literally nothing online can be regarded as safe these days.
Also, thieves probably don't really care about yor social media account. If you're storing your credit card and SSN on Twitter, you've got bigger problems than this.
ALSO also, Nintendo really doesn't have a reputation for getting hacked easily. Like, at all. I want to say probably ever. Scaremongering and FUD is counterproductive.
Well, I managed to register my account and register for Miitomo without a hitch. I did it all on an iPad as well. My how far Nintendo has come.
Up and running with my NNID. Ret to go.
Yeah, I'm not going to do anything right now. NNID can't be used because I've set the country setting to Finland and if I make an account for, let's say UK, I probably can't link my NNID in the future because the country settings are in conflict. Sigh. Nordic countries do exist, you know, NINTENDO!
I registered for both, Nintendo account & Miitomo, and might I say the Miitomo website has a beautiful and smooth moble website! The factor could be because I did it after the rush, but I had no problems at all with the Nintendo account. Like stated above, it took pretty much 2 minutes to set up. For Miitomo though I hit the preregistration or whatever and it did it but it didn't ask me for a email which was weird. Anyone else have this happen?/did they ask you for an email?
Miitomo preregistration is open as well!
https://miitomo.com/en/
Registration is just a click of a button! It was super easy
Signed up for the new account (which was fast and easy and synced seamlessly with my NNID), and pre-registered for Miitomo.
Miitomo appears to be a mobile version of Tomodachi Life with in-app purchases (ugh) and social media integration. Not a game changer, by any stretch, but it could have more of an impact than Tomodachi Life ever did in the West.
Something's wrong. That was too easy... it felt.... modern.
@sillygostly Tomodachi Life sold very well in the west.
i dont think its for all regions.
When i tried i had a message saying:
"This Nintendo Network ID cannot currently
be used due to its country setting."
Done
@IceClimbers : I commented on its social and cultural "impact", not on its sales figures. Tomodachi Life sold quite well amongst 3DS owners, sure, but it hasn't really reached anybody beyond its audience of 3DS gamers.
Miitomo on the other hand, could have a similar sociocultural impact to say, Angry Birds, Candy Crush or (shudder) Flappy Bird… and become a popular point of conversation and cement itself in popular culture. That is what Nintendo is trying to achieve with Miitomo and its upcoming mobile games.
I hope they soon will open up for more countries. Those county restrictions just doesn't fit in our time and age, with a global web without boundaries.
16 countries is just not enough, but hopefully this will change sooner than later.
As Scandinavian I have felt like a second grade customer for a decade. I could never join Club Nintendo. If I am also left out of "My Nintendo", I will simply stop buying any new Nintendo stuff in the future.
I have been looking so much forward to a unified account system, with my bought content linked to it, and not my devices. If I can't have that, because of my residence, then I am not supporting Nintendo anymore.
That was an exciting 20 seconds
Preregistered for both Nintendo Account and Miimoto. Can't wait to try the app.
And once again, it's as if Scandinavia doesn't exist. Tried to register and found out the hard way.
Doesn't work in Finland, unfortunately:
"This Nintendo Network ID cannot currently
be used due to its country setting."
What if I use my Google Plus account? Is it possible to link NNID afterwards?
Well that was easy! Done & done
Does not work for a Greek NNID either...
Exciting times are on the horizon.
@Fath Well I gotta say, you do have a good point (several actually) and I can agree with that. The only thing I disagree is Nintendo's reputation of getting hacked easily. This would have been true if we were still in the past, but things are different now and like you said, "Literally nothing online can be regarded as safe these days" and Nintendo is no exception. They've been trying to catch up to Sony and MS by doing online services better to reach a wider audience, but it also means more potential hackers targeting Nintendo (and it's already been happening, just not at the humongous scale of Sony or MS).
...However, it's nothing to really get worked up about since it's much smaller in comparison to Sony or MS. So I'll leave it at that I guess.
At this moment I don't entirely see the benefit of this. It's a bit like a hairdryer that has wifi connectivity- how does it make it better?
'Link your Nintendo and Facebook accounts'- frankly I don't want my friends to know how much time I've wasted in Yoshi's Wooly World.
'Sign up for pre-registration for Miitomo'- a free app Nintendo will announce when it comes out, that I don't really want to use and can't use because it doesn't support my phone.
'Keep track of your purchases'- Can't I just turn on my Wii U or 3DS and see the games on the select screen?
'Earn points from purchases'- points I can't collect yet because I can't register any games on it yet, and I don't know what these points will be worth or able to buy.
I can't see the use in having a unified acount yet, in fact it's worth waiting to see how sturdy the system is and what it actually does.
plus the phrase 'Miifoto's' can easily be misread at a quick glance.
@Shirma_Akayaku As much as I understand your concerns, as someone who works in IT, I'm actually impressed with Nintendo's honesty on the subject. Short of unplugging the network cable, the mouse, the keyboard and the monitor there's no way to make a server and its data 100% secure. But most companies don't admit that, so fair play to Ninty for their willingness to be open...
I understand why they would limit registrations for Miitomo since they're only launching it in 16 countries at first. Why I can't sign up for a Nintendo Account in a Nintendo Account-eligible country is beyond me.
@dres
We Scandinavians/Nordic people should be included in the My Nintendo network when it comes out in March, but just not letting us pre-register for some reason I don't know.
Miitomo isn't going to be released in Scandinavia/Nordic countries at first, but from what we know now it may only be for the initial launch that we aren't included.
So hopefully we Scandinavians/Nordic people and the other remaining countries will have Miitomo by E3 this year :+).
Sigh... not in my country.
I'm gonna sign up
But please let us change our NNIDs soon Nintendo. I really don't want to be stuck with 'TheNinjaJolteon' anymore. Why was 12 year old me so stupid?
This should be interesting, i have 2 wiiu's and two 3ds's. The wiiu's have different accounts. I can't seem to add 2 accounts.
Where's Flipnote Studio 3D?
@Kimite
I really hope you are right about this.
I am ok with these restrictions for now, if they plan to remove them in the near future. No problem.
I just don't wan't to be left out this time around, like with Club Nintendo.
@Zoda_Fett Just had the same thing with not being asked for an email or being prompted to login to my Nintendo account which preregistering for Miitomo. As best as I can tell it's not an issue if you went to the Miitomo site while you were still logged into your Nintendo account... At least that's what I'm hoping is the case
@Grumblevolcano Been wondering that for a while myself...
"This Nintendo Network ID cannot currently
be used due to its country setting."
Thanks Obama.
Ok, after dealing with unavialablity of the service right now (typical), I do hope that Flipnote will FINALLY come here when My Nintendo will be available in more countries.
Gimme new Wario game!!!
@dres Well my information are based on information I have read and if you want to, you can search up My Nintendo/Miitomo on Nintendoeverything as every news comes up chronologically :+). (Sorry Nintendo Life ;^; , but it is a bit easier to search for Nintendo news on Nintendoeverything in my view).
One thing thing though, I am not sure if Scandinavia will be a part of the March launch for My Nintendo, but as far as I can see it seems like we are going to be included based on earlier information. (The pre-registration might only be for countries that get Miitomo initially in March).
@The__Goomba Nope. I accessed the page, and it was in Portuguese. Entered my Nintendo info, got an error page. Tried doing it through my Facebook information and it went through, but when it tells me to choose a country, no Brazil.
Apparently, Ninty only needs Japan, North America and parts of Europe for their business. Which is a pity, because I've been a loyal fan since I was 18 (I'm now 36), and I brought up my 10 year old son on everything Nintendo. But they seem focused on phasing us out. Pity.
@Vee_Flames Same here with NNID. So I just linked my Google+ account. When the account was created, I de-linked Google+ and just linked NNID. So worked the same, but took longer.
@dres I can also assure you that My Nintendo will be available in scandinavia. I wrote the news myself right here in our Danish Nintendo community: http://n-club.dk/nyheder/451836-my-nintendo-kommer-til-danmark-i-marts--ls-hvad-det-indebrer
At the moment I'm trying to find out why we can't register a Nintendo account at the moment, and will hopefulle receive an answer from Bergsala soon
Well I seem to be one of those that can't get the verification code. I have a yahoo email address if that matters. Its not in my spam or trash folder and I've resent several times.
Why do these things have to be so frustrating?
Yeah, not available in Brazil so far. Oh well, let's go back to being Canadian then.
Tried to tie my NNID with Nintendo Account, but apparently I live in the wrong country for Nintendo... (Portugal).
"This Nintendo Network ID cannot currently
be used due to its country setting."
Welp, Poland can't into Nintendo Account at the moment.
I applied for My Nintendo account, but it says its going to send a confirmation email with a verification code. It's been 20mins... still no code... I even tried resending the code. Nothing. Well that's disappointing.
I got a question. Like is this Nintendo account only exclusive to America? Cause I'm around Asia.
I'm also suffering the long wait for the verification email...
@Matti I'm able to link you're NNID, twitter and facebook later.
However it may be a while before you can link a Finnish NNID.
Went to the website and less than a minute, done creating my own NA (Nintendo Account).
verification email came through and it's claiming to be invalid...
If you don't get the email just keep waiting for the email and registering again after a while. I've been about 3 hours doing it.
This is SOOOO Nintendo.
For some reason, it kept taking me to the Japanese login page. (Using Opera) I tried in Chrome and finally got the US version.
Account made without a hiccup. Miitomo preregistered.
Glad we have a rewards system back. I wonder if there'll be a way to register products that released post Club Nintendo (Splatoon, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival, Super Mario Maker, etc.)
Also, I can't wait for this to have some actual use. It's pretty empty right now.
@KJ85
That is great news.
I understand, If Nintendo doesn't want to open it up for all countries to begin with. If they just open it up to more countries down the road, then I'm fine with it.
It made me really happy that they finally have a "prefer not to answer" option for gender. That always annoyed me on Club Nintendo.
Signed up. Took all of 15 seconds to do. Off to Miitomo.
Took less than a minute, super sweet
I'm still a bit confused... what's the need for NNID and Nintendo Account? What's the difference? So this is a new Club Nintendo?
Wow. Nintendo I am impressed! With a NNID already, it took like 15 seconds to sign up, another 10 seconds to link my Facebook and Twitter.
Dare I say.... Nintendo figured out online finally?
@XCWarrior
I'll say that only when the registration is available for those countries too that can't register at the moment.
Finally have my account set up!
Does anyone actually plan on buying Miitomo?
Finally in!
Two codes that didn't work and one that expired because it took so long to cone through.
Haven't had this much "fun" since trying to buy the Plants v Zombies pinball table on WiiU.
I think I'm holding off for now. I want to see everything first.
Do you get anything for signing up now instead of later?
Is the nickname field the same as your Username? I didn't get to choose a Username.
Haha, funny people are mentioning how Miitomo isn't available in the Scandinavian nations. I'm currently in Uruguay and sure as heck not available here until who knows when xD. Thankfully I'll be in New Zealand next week, shall take care of it then.
Still waiting for the Verification code....
What about people that were forced to make 2 or more NNID for having multiple 3DS? I still use all of them
I'm still not sure why there needs to be multiple accounts here. We already have a Nintendo ID.
@wazlon Pretty sure it's a free to play app with in-app purchases, so no need to buy it...
@OneBagTravel I'd say that Nintendo are hoping to reach more than just the Nintendo converts with their smartphone apps, hence having a new accout system that can be linked with various options (NNID, FB, Twitter, etc.) - Makes sense to me...
@Shirma_Akayaku Even if Nintendo Account is ever hacked, it shouldn't affect you social media accounts. Twitter, Facebook and Google+ use something called OpenAuth, which basically does NOT mean Nintendo (or any other connected service via OpenAuth) will have access to those accounts, but rather just be authorized with a unique, revokable code, to be able to access some limited features, like post a tweet or status update, depending on what features Nintendo requests the social services to use. So the worst that could happen in that worst case scenario is that someone may post something to your account, but not say, read your private FB messages, have access to your twitter password, etc.
TL, DR; You shouldn't worry about the account security when connecting your social media accounts, any more than than you may already do just by having a social media account.
@Shirma_Akayaku Yup, it's fine to be generally cautious online! What I said earlier aside, I'll probably only be tying my Nintendo account to my NNID too, but just because I'm cantankerous that way when it comes to everthing being connected to everything else (social media, especially) .
Well that was painless. Have a Nintendo Account and am pre-registered for Miitomo. Feels good to be collecting reward points again.
@Tobias95
Unfortunately no. It seems you can still use the same one for NNIDs of different regions, but for Nintendo account it must be a different email per account no matter the region.
Also a side note for anyone who was wondering, it seems coupons do not last very long so you should all keep an eye out for them. I had registered for a JP Ninty Account last year when registration opened but thought nothing of it because I thought they weren't going to have anything ready yet. However, it seems they distributed two 40% off coupons in December. Each coupon only lasted for about a week, and I didn't even realize until now >_<
So yeah, check your emails often. Maybe check your accounts often, too, once NoA or NoE starts giving out coupons.
Oh yeah, the account also has a transaction history in the JP version, so that'll be handy once it comes to the western versions, too.
I'm also going to wait and see if people lose their software downloads before I give it a go. I would be sick if I lost around 200 downloads
@AVahne Oh well, I will have to change my email on my japanese account too then, when it opens for Scandinavia.
Thanks for the reply ^_^
@windy I can't speak for European and American accounts, but I have not lost anything on my Japanese console.
Not in Sweden either :<
"No puedes usar este Nintendo Network ID debido a los ajustes de residencia." You cannot use this NNID because your current residency settings (sic).
Gee, I live in an invalid part of the world, who would have thought?
OK, Let's have a little patience.
Will this replace the NNID? I'm looking to replace my NNID because I lost my password.
I have signed up with my NNID and preregistered for the Miitomo
@Skeletor
I ran into that too, but maybe for different reasons than you did. My code arrived two hours later, by which time it was obsolete. I ordered another one and it came promptly, I suspect they were simply overrun and the servers couldn't keep up when I tried it the first time.
I'm just going to wait and see how the system actually works before I join anything. I don't want to hop on a ship I know nothing about.
is anybody else having problems verifying their account? When I click the verification link it says "The request contains an error."
@r4ind4nce my code just finally came through within the last few hours. I had already used an alternate email, but since it is working, I changed back.
Very odd that the issue was happening with only certain people.
@Shirma_Akayaku is that why people attack psn/xbla and not nintendo?
@Shirma_Akayaku is that why people attack psn/xbla and not nintendo?
Now to wait for my code...aaaaaany second now...
at least you can change your nick after registering...
I just realized I go by like 5 different names online I'd fix that but don't want to loose any names.
@Shirma_Akayaku If you're that concerned about person information being stolen, don't use social media, it's not safe and public wifi, NEVER EVER EVER use, or connect to, public wifi.
Bring on the new era of Nintendo hardware baby! So pumped!
oh god, not available in Mexico. was so excited to finally be able to open my nintendo account. hope it doesn't take long.
i had trouble getting my email and i found this in the help section.
We are aware of reports that some users with email addresses provided by Yahoo may not be receiving or may be delayed in receiving verification emails during Nintendo Account creation. We are investigating this situation and appreciate your patience.
If it’s been over a couple of hours since you requested the e-mail, please try the following steps:
Check that you entered your e-mail address correctly.
Check your spam / junk e-mail folder to see if the e-mail is there.
Make sure there are no filters in your e-mail account that may be blocking e-mails from @accounts.nintendo.com.
If these steps do not resolve your issue, please click here for additional assistance.
I'll do it as soon as I know what's in it for me. Points? discounts? I just have to wait and see. I can imagine though people getting into trouble when linking Google, Facebook, etc. I mean, I don't trust those. But I don't trust Nintendo either (not anymore). What if you do something naughty like listening Nintendo music on youtube, or posting a video that promotes a Nintendo game (with some footage)? BAM, you are banned. I'll just link my Nintendo id when the time is right!!
No funnsies for me in Switzerland *sadface
@Charlosa Of course, I forgot. Usually I give it a go but don't pay anything. I don't really like free to start games.
@wazlon Agreed, not a big fan of a lot of the smart device games I've seen. Ninty have had a mixed bag in my opinion... Although I'm quite hooked on the stupid 3DS badge game, but only to see if I can get all of the Splatoon and Zelda badges without paying a penny
Well, I made a account for those Platinum points. I hope I can do something worthwhile with them. Luckily you aren't forced to download Miitomo, but if you register you get a email when the app is released. I really have not the slightest of interest in Miitomo, but I might have downloaded it nonetheless if it was available for free on 3DS or Wii u. Just to see what its all about. Now that its on smartphones I won't bite though!
