Nintendo shocked the Rhythm Heaven community during today's Nintendo Direct with the announcement of the next installment in the hit franchise, Rhythm Heaven Megamix, a localisation of a previous retail release in Japan.
The game will contain more than 100 rhythm games, 30 of which are brand new to the series.
In addition, 70 selected levels from previous titles will be included as well. Some of these levels find their origin in the original Game Boy Advance title, never released in North America.
The game launches later this year in Europe and North America; no additional details were shared.

This looks to be the exact same thing as Rhythm Tengoku The Best Plus, which I already bought on 3DS thinking they would never localise it. Well, here we are.
One of the best parts of the Direct! Very hyped for this!
This was easily the best news today
I've never tried anything like this before, but that video made me want to give the game a go. Totally interested.
Best bit of the Direct. Also shows that Shibata is a legend.
I'm glad they kept the catcher game. My favorite one.
I knew this would come this year. Nintendo needed to pad out that release schedule somehow. Frankly, it was getting quite embarrassing with just how little was announced for 3DS/U for 2016 (up until this Direct at least).
For the right price i will definitely pick this up. Looks like good fun.
I have a strong feeling this will be the best out of the series; and possibly the best music game ever.
@EarthboundBenjy It is and I'm in the same boat as you. But you have to admit the import was worth it. Such a good game.
If this was the only news today, I would have still been overjoyed. This is the best and biggest news of the direct for me, even though it had many high points.
Awesome. I've Rhythm Heaven and was hoping this Would make its way stateside.
Yes! Day 1
YESS. This is really good for anyone who's not played the games as well since it has old and new content
FLIPPING FINALLY! Also, I liked Shibata's little intro to it. He really is one of Nintendo's more underrated personalities.
100 games???? I do like rythm games and enjoyed what I played when playing a friends ds game. I might have to get this.
Rhythm Heaven, how I both love and loathe thee. I love your quirky charm, catchy music, and everything about Beat the Beat. But Rhythm Rally, I hate you so much. XD
Rhythm Rally, RR2 and Remix 8 (DS) are still the only games i haven't perfected. I broke my Ds lite screen trying. XD
Hype for this, now I just need to import the GBA original from Japan and continue praying for Daigasso! Band Brothers P to come to Europe as Jam with the Band 2.
@TheXReturns
You'll be happy to know that in this version of the game, Rhythm Rally is controlled with a simple button press, without the need to flick. So it's muuuch easier.
Oh dear yes yes yes!
@EarthboundBenjy
I know. I was so relieved when I saw the Japanese version had gone back to buttons. I don't want to demolish another touch screen. XD
I may have to just perfect Rhythm Rally first in vengeance though. XD
More than a few despondent Rhythm Heaven fans shouted in excitement today.
Words cannot describe how happy this makes me!
I love Rhythm Heaven!!! WOOOOO!!! Was just recently thinking about how sweet it'd be if we got a new one!
This was the highlight of the direct for me. So damn hyped; 100 games is a ridiculous amount of content.
I always (almost) skip rhythm games, but this one I want to try.
FINALLY! ABOUT TIME!
I'm incredibly hyped for this. I wasn't sure if it would happen!
Good thing I didn't get Best Plus for Christmas!
My life is now completed. Thank you Nintendo for not forgetting about it.
This was definitely the highlight of the Direct for me! I love the Rhythm Heaven games! I'm really glad they finally announced it as I started to worry that they were never going to localize it. Day one for me!
Rhythm Paradise is probably my most played DS game, next to Pokemon Soul Silver.
I will play the flippin heck out of this.
Awesome news! I'm so excited about this! I love Rhythm Heaven. I've played both the DS and Wii games before.
Great series. Very inventive and funny. And unlike other rhythm games those one aren't QTE simulators. It's a pure rhythm game you can play with your eyes closed.
I am disproportionately excited for this game
FANTASTIC!
The Wii game was great, and I enjoyed the few mini games I played here and there from the DS version. Can't say I'm really excited for this but I'm definitely in the boat of people who loved the introduction to it in the EU Direct.
Looking forward to this one, was hoping it would be released in Europe.
Yeeeesss!! I'm so happy now. It sucks that I just sold my 3DS. At least I now have a reason to buy a New 3DS XL
Finally. Now I just need Picross 3D 2 and a date for this and I'll be set.
Nice to see this getting localized! Definitely the best news from the direct. Stretch out your neck! Hand full of peas! Spin it, boys!
Donk donk! Donk donk! Donk donk! Donk donk! Donk donk! Donk donk!
Now heres some Iwata Man: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lWCP_P8yms
Awesome news! I imported Rhythm Tengoku The Best + ages ago, but I'll rebuy to support the localization. I love the RH series.
This announcement literally made my day. I'm so excited!
yes ! !the best news
Ah cool, its coming! But still no 3D Picross 2 confirmation.
It's Amazing how awesome this series is! I'm glad its continuing to rock on.
This will be good, it will be interesting to be able to play the stages from the GBA Rhythm Heaven. I'm ready for the new tunes which will undoubtedly get stuck in my head which is by no means a bad thing!
