Re: Nintendo Direct August 2024 - Every Announcement & Game Reveal From The Indie World & Partner Showcases

@somnambulance I don't know how anyone could say the Joy-Cons are their favorite controllers? To each their own I suppose. As far as the Switch being anyone's favorite console ever? It's not even my personal favorite Nintendo console ever, let alone favorite in general. The Switch is missing too many of the big AAA titles that go to PS and Xbox for me to consider it in my list of top consoles. The Switch 2 will probably be powerful enough for devs and pubs to port 99% of those missing titles over, but it's a vicious cycle as in a few more years when PS6 and Xbox Next (or whatever they call it) come out, they'll once again be much higher spec'd than the Switch 2 and it will start missing out on a bunch of AAA stuff all over again.

@somnambulance I'm kind of in the same boat. I tend to buy my indie, 8-bit / 16-bit type games on Switch, however there've been a few lately where not only do they not have Trophies or Achievements like on PS and Xbox, but the Switch versions run a lower frames - even 2D and 2.5D side scrollers which is disappointing. Couple that with the fact the Switch is the least comfortable option as far as controller / comfort goes and I'm starting to lose my desire to play most of this stuff there.

Re: Switch On Track To Surpass PS2's Lifetime Sales In The US

The Switch is a testament to Nintendo's universal, lasting appeal and reputation for fun games for all ages and skill levels. Yes it's not as powerful as it's competition, but the convenience of being able to play on my TV or portably is tough to beat. Honestly as a Canadian and die-hard hockey fan, if EA Sports were to ever release NHL 25 (or NHL 26 on the Switch 2), I would have very little need to play my PS5 or Series X.

It’s such a shame that Activision moved High Moon Studios over to being a COD support studio and they never got to make the 3rd game in the War For/Fall Of Cybertron trilogy. Myself and millions of other diehard G1 TF fans were excited to see the Ark crashing into the volcano and Teletraan 1 converting all the Autobots into modern earth vehicles etc. It would’ve been epic! Instead we get this….Even Rise of the Dark Spark was better than this junk.

Re: Reaction: A Direct That Delivered, And Shows That Switch Still Has Plenty Of Pep

Now that I’ve had an entire day to process this morning’s Nintendo Direct, I’ve reassessed some things and I would now say it was right up there with the Xbox Showcase. I guess for a grumpy, old ***** like me it’s tough sometimes to separate the Nintendo I grew up with in the NES, SNES, N64 and GameCube era and the Nintendo of today. They are NOT the same. I grew up with a Nintendo that dominated the market and even when they fell behind their competitors, they were STILL aggressive and wanted to dominate. From the Wii until today with the Switch, they just don’t have the same swagger or motivation with their underpowered/gimmicky hardware combined with lack of 3rd party support in the AAA space it relegates the Switch to a secondary or “backup” console for me. I miss the days when my Nintendo console ticked all the boxes.

So, with all that out of the way out of everything shown/announced I’m interested in and will likely buy:

  • Metroid Prime 4: Beyond 8 years in development
  • Mario and Luigi: Bros Before Ho’s
  • New Mario Party: This time with more than 4 boards!
  • Zelda: The Adventure of…Zelda
  • Donkey Kong Country Returns, Returns, Returns

Sigh...how to know as a lifelong Nintendo fan you've outgrown Nintendo? Its when chibi and anime stuff completely turns you off (so like 75% of the games shown here). Or more remakes/remasters or "HD" versions of old games keep piling on and Nintendo will STILL charge full price for them. Still no Trophy or Achievements like on PS and Xbox. Slow trickling of NSO retro games, sometimes going months w/ no additions. Sure I'm happy about Metroid Prime 4 finally being real instead of just a logo and the new Mario & Luigi game along with the new Mario Party look good, but most of the other stuff is just meh to me...I suppose if I was a Nintendo-only gamer I might be more satisfied?

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Confirmed For Switch, Launching 2025

SleeplessKnight

Well, at least its an actual game and not just a logo after 7 years! Looks good. It'll very likely be the same as Breath of the Wild where it'll launch on Switch, but the better version will launch on the Switch 2 just like Zelda on the Wii U but everyone wanted it on the Switch and bought a Switch primarily to play it.

Re: Nintendo Direct June 2024: Time, Where To Watch, What To Expect

SleeplessKnight

At this point there is no point in mentioning MP4 until the next-gen Switch. They'd be wise to save it as a launch title as there's no way they'll have another Zelda done by 2025.

A new Donkey Kong of some kind would be great, a new Star Fox or maybe a re-master of an older Star Fox game would be great. Obviously new SNES, NES, GB, GBA, Genesis games for NSO would be great as well. Again I wouldn't hold my breath for them expanding the systems such as GameCube until the Switch 2.

Re: Hogwarts Legacy On Switch Has Been Delayed To November 2023

SleeplessKnight

I'm not confident this game will run great on the Switch. It'll most likely be 720p docked, obviously have no ray-tracing and be lucky to average 30 fps.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a game in development from Nintendo's TOP studio for SIX years has performance issues at times. It's clear we need a Switch 2 or Switch "Pro" soon.

Re: Talking Point: Is The N64 Pad Actually The Best Controller Ever?

SleeplessKnight

It was innovative. Nintendo Innovates, the rest Imitate. The controller was built pretty much specifically for Mario 64 and that pairing of game and controller are probably the best of all-time. The stick is STILL much more precise than modern controllers - IF you can find a controller without a loose one that as.

As far as the D-pad or the L button go...HELLO?! Did any of you ever play Killer Instinct Gold? Mortal Kombat Trilogy? Tetris? Kirby 64?

Re: Nintendo Isn't Backing Down On Its Decision To Pull Mario Products From Stores This Month

SleeplessKnight

This isn’t about Nintendo being “anti-consumer” - god I hate that term that millennials use to describe practically anything from any company that isn’t basically FREE, lol! This is Nintendo being Nintendo! They’re the all-time masters of manipulating the concept of ‘Supply vs. Demand’ in their favour. A big part of the reason many “rare” or hard-to-find cartridges for NES, SNES & N64 are so expensive for retro collectors is because of them and their overly stringent policies and limiting how many cartridges 3rd parties were allowed to produce. Then just watch in 15 years they’ll re-release Super Mario 3D All-Stars again for the 50th anniversary of Mario...but only for a limited time of course
