I remember a strange night live blogging the worst Anniversary celebration ever. You know the one, Sonic fans! But it wasn't all bad; we didn't know it at the time, as the widely leaked Switch hadn't even been officially revealed as the NX at that point, but Nintendo fans weren't far away from playing the best Sonic game in decades, Sonic Mania.
As a game it was a commercial success, with initial sales encouraging SEGA to sanction retail editions and Sonic Mania Plus; it's still a go-to game on my Switch. It was also, when you really think about it, a bold thing for SEGA to do. As the IP - in particular its 2D platforming roots - was losing popularity, SEGA effectively admitted it wasn't getting it right and recruited an all-star team of Indie developers that had huge amounts of talent. In their ranks were those who'd produced outstanding mobile ports, fan games and more, and it felt like SEGA said "ok, fine, make the Sonic game everyone wants". And they did.
This is Nintendo Life, you've read the headline, so it's obvious where this is going. Yet it's important, before the pitchforks are sharpened, to acknowledge that Nintendo has had its moments of embracing the talent to be found outside its own studios. The snappily titled Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring The Legend of Zelda was a case where Nintendo saw a top-notch Indie game, agreed it would be fun bringing the concept to the Zelda franchise, and it happened. It was eye opening, simply because Nintendo has often been pretty cautious in terms of letting others play with their toys.
Cadence of Hyrule was eye opening, simply because Nintendo has often been pretty cautious in terms of letting others play with their toys.
We've also seen Nintendo allow sizeable third-party development teams produce fan favourite games. You can go back to titles like Metroid: Samus Returns from MercurySteam, or indeed Metroid Prime Trilogy when Retro Studios first 'joined the family', and studios like Next Level Games before their acquisition. Let's not forget New Pokémon Snap being developed by Bandai Namco, a company that's also been prominent in bringing us Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
That said, with this idea we're referring to smaller teams, the under-resourced but passionate space of super fans that also happen to be talented artists and developers.
Of course, what we often see from these individuals and small groups are fan products, a recent example being the stunning 2D Prime. As is well known, Nintendo is sometimes so diligent in protecting its copyright that projects like this are in a permanent state of danger; so far that one's survived.
Whatever you think of Nintendo's methods enforcing their copyrights, that's not the point here. I just dream of the day when Nintendo embraces some of these talents, gives them the finances and resources they need and works with them to make a truly special game. Oh how I want Nintendo to have its Sonic Mania moment!
Realistically, it'd be surprising if Nintendo did this with something like Mario or The Legend of Zelda. Yes, we have Cadence of Hyrule, but that feels more like Legend of Zelda having a wonderful marriage with the Crypt of the Necrodancer format. Actually allowing an Indie team to make a game that evolves core Nintendo titles, like the many impressive fan efforts that appear every year, is something else entirely.
Yet there are dormant franchises that Nintendo could sanction, pleasing vocal fans while also keeping the scope and budget relatively low. The likes of F-Zero, Kid Icarus, Star Fox and more besides; there are Indie titles that draw inspiration from titles like these and look fantastic; imagine one that has Nintendo's backing. Our chums at Push Square have mused on a similar topic from a Sony perspective, too.
I feel like it's unlikely, but who knows - Nintendo is often full of surprises. The arrival of small scale games in dormant franchises, produced by talented super fans, would definitely get me excited.
Do you like this idea, or do you think it's bonkers? Have your say in the comments.

I'm waiting for something completely new, not based on old IP and still safe for kids.
It would be nice to get 2D or A Link Between Worlds style Zelda games between huge tent pole Zeldas. We’ve kind of lost that with the lack of a dedicated handheld. Link’s Awakening remake was kind of along those lines but the price tag did not match the product. Get a decent team on it and let me have my small scale Zeldas. It worked for the Oracle games.
It would be great if a fan created a new game with Nintendo IP. That was original and inventive. Unfortunately, 1) Nintendo haven't been failing themselves at creating new ideas for games (Unlike Sonic, who in their right mind is going to say 'Hey, Nintendo, you've been doing Mario wrong!) and 2) Popping an already existing game into Unreal, or making it 2D, or what have you is more a skill set than actual creativity. Nothing that jumps out at you to think, wow why hasn't Nintendo done that?
I get the sentiment of the article, but opening the flood gates to rehashes and reskins isn't exactly what Nintendo is about. Cadence offered something Nintendo hasn't done. It's why they are so happy to put their IP into things like Minecraft. But maybe those fans can find a job in the industry, because they sure have skills!
Folk should focus on the stuff percieved as 'forgotten.' If they can't think of what to do with F-Zero next, where are the fans to show them? Reskinning Zelda games or making Mario look life like isn't going to turn their heads.
It’s time for Sonic’s Breath of the Wild moment
@Anti-Matter
1. Nintendo has always generally been safe for kids, worse case scenario is that they make a T-rated game or publish a mature game (Bayonetta, Devil's Third)
(I know that you're mad about me mentioning the M-rated games, but they're not going anywhere anytime soon.)
2. Really? No bringing back old IPs? Is that implying that Chibi-Robo, F-Zero, and Kirby Air Ride don't deserve reincarnation? Why? It's not like they're gonna hurt you or something.
Clubhouse Games was a franchise stuck on the DS until last year, and the Switch sequel was phenomenal. Why are reviving new properties a problem to you? If you don't want it, I have a great tip for you! Don't Buy It.
3. They're doing something new all the time, like with Splatoon, but you complained about that because it was a pew-pew game. Mario Maker was a new twist on the Mario formula, but if I remember, you complained about that too (or just called it bad, I don't remember). Do you really want a new IP when most of the ones Nintendo has given us, you've whined about?
I nominate Battle Clash
In other actual news: Nintendo™ has just made a copyright claim on a 3D model of Bowser's Dino Dongus©
Will take anything at this point. Feel like Nintendo has really pulled back from it’s phenomenal software on Switch launch. Maybe waiting for Switch 2
Bring on a fan made F-Zero!
If only nintendo would do such a thing but we all know they won't. There is however I game I really want nintendo to bring back, rhythm heaven, I played the demo on 3ds and fell in love with it, I can't believe we don't have one on the switch yet.
I also want them to port the M&L games but Alpha dream is dead sigh.
Actually it's time for mario's sonic mania moment. As in a brand new 2-D mario game that stays true to the early games but offers something fresh and original much like sonic mania did. No more mario maker and for goodness sakes no more NSMB!
Call it super mario mania! I mean duh right?
Oh and speaking of which can we get sonic mania 2 already?
@Anti-Matter Ninty have created lots of new/orginal IP over the last 5ish years like ARMS, Ring Fit Adeventure, Snipperclips, Splatoon, BoxBoy, Miitopia, LABO etc and you spend most of your time on here complaining you want more DDR games ratherr than orginal games...
@jump Do you think if they did another arms game they should re-do the gameplay? I mean I liked it a lot when I played but people would just span grab, and spam grab, grab again, Uh what were we talking about?
Ok, what about this: An open world Kirby game. That would be e🅱️ic.
@Snatcher The gameplay was great. If people are just spamming grab then throw a punch which deflects them as it's designed to for the win.
@HotGoomba Wait he didn't like splatoon bc it had guns? what next M+R? "What no I was just kidding NOOOOO".
@jump HMM I think arms may have just came out to early They should def try again, bc alot of other nintendo games came out around that time as well, like mario OD.
I just want a new 2d Mario that's more creative than the NSMB games. I actually think those games are great, but still they are lacking in creativity somewhat. I don't care who makes it as long as it's amazing.
@jump @HotGoomba
Wut ??
I didn't even complain about old IP from my 1st post. 😕
I just wished for once there will be at least one game with very new idea and not based on old IP.
Just surprise me.
Once in a while, Ninty does outsource their franchise titles: F-Zero Gx (GameCube) was handled by Sega, Starfox Assault was Co-created with Namco.
Its just that the CD-i games might have made Miyamoto and co less likely to just simply farm out their games.
Sega does get good returns with licensing ip, Street of Rage 4 being the latest success...
@Anti-Matter I've literally just gave you multiple examples of what you were aking for...
@Snatcher
I have Mario + Rabbids since year 2017 and just now i continued my progress after 4 years didn't play it.
@jump
Ring Fit Adventures will be on September 2021 according to my agenda.
I still have to decide which games are more important to be purchased first.
It's always the same argument.
"Bah, Nintendo doesn't make anything new / the Switch has no really NEW games / it's all just ports..."
"What about ARMS, Snipperclips, LABO, Ring Fit Adventure, Astral Chain..."
"As I was saying, Nintendo never does anything new..."
The thing to remember about Sonic Mania was that the project was going to happen with or without SEGA’s help. Instead, SEGA saw it and elevated to new heights, gave them development support and funding (but sadly not nearly enough to keep Whitehead and PagodaWest in a stable state).
I think there’s too much pride in Nintendo to take a look at any fan games and say “well why don’t we make this First Party?” Far as I know, that has never happened. They don’t want to encourage an ecosystem where fan developers can make a game, hope that they can pitch Nintendo on it and if the deal doesn’t go through, they’ll just make it anyway for their portfolio’s sake.
We also know Nintendo is controlling about who gets ahold of their IP. They don’t want to be at a state where their creativity for an IP strays incredibly far for a game and now the IP is associated with a team they have far less control over. Sure, we see things like Cadence of Hyrule, but Nintendo will be the first to tell you that the game is a Necrodancer game first and foremost. They didn’t even want to put a Samus costume in the Wii U port of Axiom Verge, which ended up being amongst the 10 highest rated games on Wii U, as they feared at that point, it would be considered too much of a Metroid game.
It’s a move I definitely want to see though. But at this point, there’s too many barriers in seeing anything like that happen, including the pandemic having developer’s interactions be very limited with Nintendo corporate.
The biggest difference here is that Sega is a shell of a former self, Sonic lost his popularity and the quality of the games declined. Sega needed to look elsewhere to help save their franchise.
Nintendo simply doesn't need to do it.
@ThomasBW84, that is really the origin story for Ms. Pac-Man, too.
Duck
Hunt
3D
(Drops mic)
@Anti-Matter Not sure what you're even complaining about. I see this a lot, people want new IP but then when a new IP comes out they complain about not liking it. News flash, a new IP is untested and there is always a chance you may not personally like it but don't act like these new ideas don't exist.
@Chowdaire
I didn't even complain about old IP from my 1st post. 😕
Read my post #1.
Btw, not every new IP will be instant like for every peoples.
It might work for certain peoples but still failed to impress other peoples because the chemistry will only working for certain peoples that have interest about the genre from the games.
I would love a fresh Nintendo Land 2... or maybe a suite of mini games based on dormant franchises.
my list as follows: remake of Zelda OOT and Link to the past, a new version of Starfox or remake of Starfox Lylat Wars, Switch sports (just like WiiU Sports) as I miss online bowling, a new FZERO, TMNT in time (to launch with Shredders Revenge and finally an updated version of Mario Allstars....... Please??
The last thing Nintendo needs is to take cues from Sonic of all brands.
Sonic is a classic case of how to completely trash a household name. Somehow, it still manages to hold esteem among those with an insatiable appetite for mediocrity.
Can you imagine if the Mario brand had produced dud after dud after dud only to be praised to death for producing a 16-bit rehash? The fact that Sega had to regurgitate decades-old game design to produce something half-decent with the Sonic brand is frankly pathetic.
KID ICARUS KID ICARUS KID ICARUS NOW
ORIGINAL KID ICARUS REMAKE
I NEED UPRISING TOO
OR NINTENDO WILL BE SENTENCED TO DEATH
@Anti-Matter You've just described every single person ever. Yeah, not a single game is made for all people. Despite the popularity of mario kart and animal crossing there are plenty of people who hate them. Also niche genres and ideas are greatly appreciated by others. Astral chain is one of my favorite exclusives.
Additionally, I didn't mention you complaining about old IP, my whole post was arguing your logic that there is no new IP when there has been plenty of new IP. You literally said "I'm waiting for something completely new, not based on old IP"
StTARTROPICS REMAKE
Nintendo had their chance with the release of Super Mario 64. That could have been their Sonic moment but messsed up big time.
As for letting others play with their toys, Ubisoft did a good job with Mario + Rabbids.
And Zelda.....Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, that was letting someone run away with franchise and linking it to breath of the wild.
GUYSSSSSSSS...............
A NEW KID ICARUS UPRISING GAME OR REMAKE OF THE ORIGINAL. I don't want to play fzero
Typically, when Nintendo DO bother to refresh an old forgotten franchise, or port an old game to new hardware, they actually manage to do it justice. It's surprising, refreshing, and often worth the wait.
Especially if the game is their main mascot.
So far, AFAIK, Nintendo haven't done a Sonic Genesis..
They don't need our help.
They're doing ok.
The beginning of the article makes it pretty clear: Sonic Mania happened because Sega realised the franchise had lost its way. With Nintendo, everything they have touched since 2017 has turned to gold; I can't see them pulling a "the fans have it right" about face.
I'm of two minds, because Sonic Mania is a good game. But it also doesn't really forge a path forward for Sonic games if the best modern title is a souped up Megadrive game.
I think fan games that exist to replicate 20 year old games exactly in design and philosophy or just straight up copy-paste just aren't what Nintendo need to push their series forwards.
I want less Sonic Manias and more Kid Icarus: Uprisings.
In my heart I believe Nintendo is working on a revolutionary new (not ‘New’) Super Mario Bros game, I really do. Possibly it could get marketed along side a new Switch revision!
I think what Nintendo could really use is its own version of Dreams. In fact, I was thinking this should be the direction Nintendo goes in before Sony beat them to the punch. Give them some kind of fan development app and let the fans run wild, then they can satisfy their need to experiment with Nintendo's IPs, but in a closed environment they can monitor.
That would be amazing. But I don't fault Nintendo for not doing something like this. Literally all I ask is them to not shut down harmless projects their fans make.
@Silly_G
Agreed. Pretty bizarre article tbh.
I am a Sonic fan, I love the first game and Sonic Adventure, but I haven't particularly enjoyed a Sonic game since SA 1 and 2.
The reality is Nintendo's most recent proper Mario game - Mario Odyssey - is better than every Sonic ever made, put together. So no, Nintendo don't need a Sonic Mania moment
I'd love for Nintendo to do this sometime but I just do not see it happening unless Nintendo has their backs turned to a wall again and they need to look around for ways to turn things back into their favour. We'll see though but I'm not holding my breath for it.
@Purplepenguin Stop spamming please.
I'm not sure what the article means by a "sonic mania moment," anyone care to explain the reference? I browsed the article but I'm not understanding.
@Yosher srry for spamming i like kid icarus ALOT
Basically we are just going to just ignore that Nintendo is still one of very few companies who still try out new IPs every year and we just flat out dismiss them cause they didn't hit Splatoon levels of excitement?
Snipperclips, Flip Wars, Ever Oasis, The Stretchers, Good Job!, ARMS, Astral Chain, Jump Rope Challenge, 1-2 Switch, Dragalia Lost, Sushi Striker, Fitness Boxing... So many have been made during the lifetime of the Switch we ignore cause it didn't become a blowout success.
Yes! Imagine a direct 16-bit sequel to Suoer Mario World or Super Metroid (kinda exactly like that Metroid Prime 2D project)?! One can only dream...
"As the IP - in particular its 2D platforming roots - was losing popularity, SEGA effectively admitted it wasn't getting it right"
Right here is the difference. SEGA had nothing to lose.
@Anti-Matter you know Nintendo can still surprise you with an older franchise, right? Not every Mario game is a variation of the original Mario Bros.
@BloodNinja Sonic franchisewas about to die out, as the last games were met with bad responses, Sega realized and got a bunch of indie devs together and made sonic mania, and that kind of revitalized people's faith in Sega a little bit.
@Just_2_milky Oh, okay cool. Can we get that for Metroid or F-Zero??? LOL
Weirdly I was suggesting something on Twitter this morning, I'd been playing the Capcom Zelda games and it'd be cool to see something similar done again. Or even let some third parties have a go with some of their dormant franchises like Sega are now doing with the likes of Streets of Rage, Panzer Dragoon and Alex Kidd
We want Metroid and F-Zero but Nintendo has to love being "random" so we will probably get Gyromite 2: Hector Returns.
Sonic Mania is an alright game imo, however I wish there was more to it.
It was an Ubi game, but Davide Soliani was essentially a superfan making a Mario game with Mario + Rabbids... and the results were splendid.
Nintendo also let Ubisoft add Star Fox to Starlink: Battle for Atlas. They do seem to be sharing a bit more recently. They don't need a Sonic Mania moment because they're not Sega. But I totally love the idea of Nintendo supporting Indies by letting them rip with their IP, like Cadence of Hyrule. Maybe that's what they meant the other day by focussing on new IP and evergreen properties? They'll outsource lesser IP to smaller devs and indies?
Sonic Mania is a good game, but it still falls a considerable way short of the original Sonic games.
I would hate Nintendo to give their IP away so cheaply. I hope they never do it, especially not because of fans being impatient!
Sonic Mania. I enjoyed most of it, but ultimately it's just not Sonic. I honestly think SEGA should feel embarrassed - and as for the Sonic Team... I just don't even feel bad for them anymore. They just need to start again.
That is wishful thinking. All I can hope for at least is Nintendo to layoff with taking down fan works unless it’s completely necessary.
Though I shudder at a Nintendo version of “Hunt Down the Freeman”.
@Just_2_milky I think for every Sonic fan that had hope in SEGA after Mania, there is a Sonic fan that just saw SEGA sink Sonic down to an all new lowest of lows.
And I mean no disrespect to the very talented developers of Mania. They did a good job, but its not their job to do - and that is largely why they were always going to come up short.
Mania is a good game. The fact SEGA couldn't do it themselves - and make it a great game in the process - is so utterly depressing.
And then this article thinks Nintendo should do the same thing. Thankfully Nintendo know how to treat their IP.
Mario is far ahead of Sonic in terms of commercial and critical success. Nintendo doesn't need to start publishing fan mods of Mario games to "regain" the franchise's reputation, because there is nothing to regain.
Cadence of Hyrule is so wildly different from a traditional Zelda game that any comparisons to Sonic Mania are moot.
Nintendo has come a long way in the wake of the wiiu. Who would of ever thought "Nintendo will allow it's mascot to be in a game developed by Ubisoft" let alone one of the first major third party titles on the switch. I'd love to see 2D prime become official but currently I think we are at least a decade away from that.
I expect a certain level of quality from Nintendo games, and I've found that it's very rare when indie devs produce content that's on par or better than official Nintendo content.
i would love to see the next Super Mario Bros return to it's 2D form in the SNES/NES days. not like Super Mario Maker gameplay. but more of Super Mario World and such. with a unique antagonist instead of Bowser again.
I seriously doubt any indie studio would be able to come even close to replicating the perfect core movement and control of DKC: Tropical Freeze.
Seriously, I'd settle for HD ports or remakes of F-Zero X, F-Zero GX, and F-Zero AX. I'm not sure I'd like a brand new F-Zero game anyway because they'd probably come up with some "innovative" way to ruin it.
If Nintendo could simply read the internet and see how their fans feel, the world would be a better place.
My Top 10 Nintendo IP Revivals:
1. Super Mario RPG
2. F-Zero (I'd even take a spinoff like F-Zero Adventures with Captain Falcon, Samurai Goroh, Pico etc.)
3. MOTHER
4. 2D Metroid
5. Mario Sports (Sluggers, Strikers, 3 on 3 Hoops, Sports Mix etc.)
6. WarioWare/Rhythm Heaven
7. Kid Icarus
8. Golden Sun
9. Pilotwings
10. Star Fox
If Nintendo really isn't planning on focusing on some of their heralded properties themselves, they should really let good 3rd party developers handle them with some oversight.
A great Nintendo system launch title was Wave Race, I would love to see it make a comeback on a revised Switch.
In the meantime, try the GameCube version on Dolphin and upscale as far as your setup will allow. It looks amazing.
I'd love to see Shin'en be given F-Zero...
I'd also love Nintendo to buy up some indie devs such as Yacht Club, Playtonic, Team Cherry etc. Give them freedom to make their own IP's with a Nintendo related game in between.
@TheFarmboy Maybe those fans could spend their time and energy making their own thing as a spiritual successor (Cities: Skylines, Mighty No.9, Yooka Laylee, Axiom Verge, Two Point Hospital, TemTem, War for the Overworld) and maybe they could even sell the game on the Nintendo eshop.
Let fast RMX devs put hands on f-zero and tell them to add a story mode!!
One of the worst articles I’ve read on here to be honest.
@Anti-Matter That's just you, homie. Some of us like to revisit IP that hasn't been touched in decades. Let people have their fun.
Nintendo is back to being its old arrogant, big-headed self. We aren't going to get any surprises until Switch stops selling and Nintendo sees their profits wanning.
Shouldn't the article have mention mario maker.. in a way that's nintendo giving out the tools to the community.. (even if it can take it away at anytime, like what happened with the wiiU version recently)..
Sonic mania was great but was a the result of Segas own constant disasters with the franchise.
Ie the company got so bad at making sonic the fans could do it better. The result was great but its a damning spotlight on Sega.
I don't think Nintendo has really messed up any franchise enough to turn it over. Its let few companies play with its IPs to mixed results. The lows of Starfox Zero, and Other M vs highs of F zero GX and Mario vs Rabbids, Cadence of Hyrule
@rockodoodle YES Nintendo Land was fun I was sad when my disc was scratched and I couldn’t play it anymore so we need a second one
We need a new Star Fox, F Zero, Metroid (although I did hear that prime 4 will come out sometime in 2023), Donkey Kong Country, Mario and Luigi, and most importantly MICROSOFT MAKE A FRICKING NEW BANJO GAME ALREADY YOU ARE JUST SITTING ON THE IP NIOT DOING ANYTHING WITH IT. I don’t think I forgot anything. Right?
Nintendo doesn’t need the fan revival treatment anywhere near for the same reasons that sonic/sega did. Nintendo is actually good at managing their properties and they are able to sell a quality product. No matter how much the pitchfork brigade wants to act like they are on their way out. I’m not knocking Nintendo led collaborations, but they don’t need them to survive. Plenty of innovative, and for the long running IPs, consistent ideas coming out of Nintendo HQ.
Many of the franchises that Nintendo lets sit dormant are that way for a reason.
SEGA has a history of mismanagement of their franchises and it shows in their bottom line and exit from consoles. Even with just having software, many of the core franchises continue to suffer (thank Hylia for Yakuza/RgG) to this day. When you get to the point that the fans do a better job that usually means you lost the plot.
I still say however that these fan devs would be better served making their own IP.
@Silly_G New Super Mario is just the peak of originality though, right? And we got 4 of them.
@Lanmanna : My comment was regarding quality, not originality. I am well aware of how derivative the latter NSMB games have been, and they are rightly criticised for it, but at least the brand has consistently maintained a standard of excellence (and Nintendo learned from their mistakes back in the 90s with those hideous CDi projects, the likes of which have wisely not been replicated since). And Nintendo have more than made up for the lack of originality in the NSMB series through their 3D games, and even their somewhat less innovative games (such as 3D World) uphold the standard of excellence that the Mario brand is associated with.
Meanwhile, the Sonic brand has consistently churned out one mediocre game after another, and even their best projects pale in comparison to Mario's less lauded outings.
Now, with that in mind, imagine the furore if Nintendo released a glorified rehash of Super Mario Bros. 3 with new levels a la Sonic Mania. The hypocrisy is that Nintendo would be laughed out of town, yet when Sega produces something even more derivative than the NSMB games, it is hailed as something of a masterpiece. The standard for Sonic has been set so low that Sega gets away with such a ridiculously unambitious project, and the fact that Mania is considered their best game in years speaks wonders of Sonic's complete lack of innovation and growth in the near 30 years that it has had to build a reputation (part of which it inexplicably maintains).
I grew up liking Sonic, but over the years, Sega have seen to jeopardising their own IP due to their appetite for an easy buck over long-term prosperity, and I speak for myself when I say that the days when I had associated the Sonic brand with any degree of prestige are long gone.
@Silly_G 😂😂😂😂
Super Mario Flashback would be an excellent choice. We haven't seen an official pixel Mario platformer in a very long time. There's some great talent out there, but the thing a lot of people don't stop and think about is, do they need it?
They're already solid enough that most things they make are commercially and critically successful. It was more likely with Sega because they actually embrace their fans and their works just as long as they aren't making money off of it or doing something overly ambitious that should be taken down.
Sega allows things such as the Sonic Amateur Game Expo (SAGE), but Nintendo recently purged tons of Mario or Nintendo fan games off of Game Jolt. They aren't your friends. But, if one day they do end up letting a different source make something akin to Sonic Mania, then that would be awesome!
I would like the Sonic Mania treatment for the next mainline Pokémon game. The franchise got really stale.
Pokémon Legends Arceus might be the breath of fresh air that the franchise needs but I'm very sceptical.
