Re: Japanese Charts: Switch 2 Surpasses 2 Million Units Sold

SleeplessKnight

As much as I'd like to get a Switch 2, something has to be said about the prices, especially in Canada...

The core console is $649.99 + tax, the Mario Kart bundle is $699.99. Games are anywhere from $99.99 + tax for games like Donkey Kong Bananza and the even more perplexing and even disgusting thing is Switch 2 versions of Switch 1 games like Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party Jamboree, and more are a whopping $114.99 + tax! Like WTF?! As much as I want Mario Kart World, I'll just spend $93.49 + tax on Sonic Racing CrossWorlds rather than $735.00 for the Switch 2/MKW bundle.

Re: The Entire Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy Is Making Its Way To Switch 2

This is a good thing! Exclusives are important as they are the major differentiating factor between consoles. Home-grown exclusives made by the console manufactures own studios that is. However, 3rd party or timed exclusivity should NOT be a thing. If you're a multiplatform publisher, your game should release on EVERY platform that can run your game, and if you asked ANY multiplatform developer's opinion on this 9/10 of them would share the same sentiment.

Re: Round Up: Video Game Industry Reacts To Nintendo's Switch 2 Announcement

SleeplessKnight

It's tough to re-invent the wheel with every new console. And honestly it isn't always required. Of course the reaction to the Switch 2 is muted in comparison to the original Switch because it was the first of it's kind. Fast forward nearly 8 years later and the handheld / home console hybrid market has changed dramatically. That being said I think the Switch 2 is pretty much what Switch owners were expecting it to be.

I look at this like the Switch was the NES and the Switch 2 is the Super NES - an evolution of what came before, not a revolution. For the mass public, casual gamers, parents etc, it's crystal clear and straightforward that "Switch 2" is the new system just like "Super Nintendo" clearly indicated it was newer and better than the "Nintendo". And unlike the jump from the NES to the SNES, the Switch 2 is (mostly) backward compatible. If you watch old news reports on YouTube from 1991, parents were P!$$ed that the SNES couldn't play their existing library of NES games or use any of the peripherals etc. feeling like their investment was all for naught. Will the Switch 2 hit the heights of the original Switch though? I don't think it will, but it'll still be extremely successful.

Re: Talking Point: Did All The Switch 2 Leaks 'Damage' Nintendo Or The Console's Reveal?

SleeplessKnight

For us hardcore gamers who follow gaming news daily if not multiple times daily? Sure a bit. However, as far as the mass market? No. Out of the 155 million people that currently own a Switch, maybe 10% of them even heard about a successor console, let alone saw or heard anything about the Switch 2 until the official Nintendo reveal and even then I'd wager that most haven't seen it.

Re: As Switch Closes The Gap, Sony Officially Confirms PS2 Has Sold "Over" 160 Million Units

SleeplessKnight

Sony keeps moving the goalposts. Doesn't matter, the Switch should eventually pass the PS2 but that all depends on how long Nintendo will continue to sell the Switch at retail once the Switch 2 launches. Typically Nintendo will still support the older hardware for 2 to 3 years (except for the Wii U which they couldn't wait to dump). However, even if the Switch ends up falling short and "only" sells say 155 million total, it's STILL an incredible success.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's N64 Library Next Week

SleeplessKnight

The slow trickle of N64 games on the service due to (A) the library being less than half the size of the NES and SNES and (B) the unfortunate issue of licensing and or royalties. Still, always great to get more titles to make use of my Nintendo Switch Online wireless N64 controller!

Re: The Math Adds Up, The Nintendo Switch Really Does Have The Best Games

SleeplessKnight

For the Switch to be considered my favorite or main console of this generation, it doesn't necessarily need to be the most powerful spec-wise, but it does have to have everything I need on one platform. This is where, unfortunately it fails for me.

No NHL Hockey game, not even one in 7+ years on the market for example is just inexcusable. EA ports FIFA/FC to the Switch EVERY YEAR! And NBA 2K, MLB The Show and others all get Switch ports every year as well.

Elden Ring, Cyberpunk, BG3, Assassin's Creed (new ones), Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, and the list goes on and on. Hopefully the Switch 2 (or whatever it's called) will be powerful enough to get ports of ALL the big multiplatform titles.

Re: Nintendo Slays Switch Emulator Ryujinx

SleeplessKnight

Emulating games from old systems is one thing. Emulating games from current gen hardware is another thing entirely. For everyone who says "Emulators themselves are not illegal". Yes this is true. So IF you're someone who buys Nintendo Switch games, but wants to play them on your PC with higher resolutions and framerates, technically you're not doing anything illegal. However, let's be honest here. What percentage of people who are playing emulated Switch games on their PC's also paid for the actual games? I would hazard a guess 95% of people doing this are simply pirating the games, thus stealing. And for those saying "Well it's Nintendo's fault for releasing underpowered hardware". If you think Nintendo will EVER release a console with equivalent power to your PC that you're emulating the games on, you're delusional. Or for those saying "Oh you're glazing or defending the billion dollar corporation". Nintendo's net worth has ZERO to do with it. If you're emulating Switch games without buying the games, you are STEALING! It's not rocket science. How dare Nintendo go after people stealing from them or facilitating / supporting / enabling them to do so?

Re: Anniversary: Nintendo Is 135 Years Old Today

SleeplessKnight

As much as I criticize Nintendo these days and spend more of my gaming time on PS5 and Xbox Series X, Nintendo will always hold a special place in my heart. They're my childhood.

Happy 135th Birthday Nintendo! Hopefully with many more to come.

Re: Japanese Charts: Switch Dominates As PS5 Price Hike Kills Momentum

SleeplessKnight

@Arkay Yes and no. As someone who grew up in the NES and SNES eras it was a better time to be a Nintendo fan IMO. The main reason is that Nintendo were the top dogs back then with the most 3rd party support of any competing platforms. That can't be said today with how many AAA titles either run like absolute garbage on the Switch or skip it altogether.

Re: PlayStation Dating RPG 'Eternights' Is Coming To Switch

SleeplessKnight

@Kingy Nice! I got an NES for my 11th birthday in 1988 (yeah I'm old). I've stayed loyal to Nintendo in the sense that I've purchased virtually every system they've ever made (even the Virtual Boy). However I, like many eventually wandered over to the PlayStation and Xbox side of things for a lot of my gaming needs, simply because I can't play certain games on Nintendo systems. I also feel like there are several different groups or categories of Nintendo fans. I fall into the "Grizzled Vet" category where I grew up with Nintendo being #1 or at least competing to be #1, not just in terms of market share, but also tech specs and coolness or "it factor". From my perspective Nintendo has fallen off quite a bit from the "good old days", even though they're making more $$ than ever before. And from my observation, there are a lot of weirdo Nintendo fans compared to back in my day. Maybe they were there all along? Tough to say as we didn't have social media or Internet forums, but anyway I just wondered as a fellow long-time Nintendo fan have you also noticed this?

Re: Nintendo Reminds Us It's Not Ready To Announce The "Switch Successor"

SleeplessKnight

With the Switch's age and old tech along with it missing out on big AAA releases and STILL no Trophy or Achievement system, it just feels stale to me. IF Switch 2 releases in Spring 2025, I'll be there day 1, but between now and then it just feels like the current Switch is on life support.

Also, with the rise of the PC handhelds, they've definitely knocked the Switch and the novelty of it down a peg or two. I think the Switch 2 will still be very successful, however I don't believe it will match the lifetime sales of the first Switch.
