I've been playing Darkwood and Fox N Forests (physical copy from Strictly Limited Games) for the past week or so, but I'm taking a break from them this weekend because I managed to score one of Limited Run's physical boxed sets of Outlast & Outlast II for a reasonable price on eBay; so I'm playing Outlast this weekend... I also may have purchased a physical copy of Paw Patrol: On A Roll in case I need a light hearted break from Outlast. No joke XD
The only new Switch game coming out in July that I'll be picking up is Raiden V: Director's Cut Limited Edition. I've already got a physical copy pre-ordered =)
I just hope they'll do a second run of Switch carts with the bug fixes implemented later down the line. I love Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon and bought a physical copy of it from Limited Run, but I'm waiting on Ritual of the Night until there's a physical version that doesn't need fixing.
Raiden V: Director's Cut - July 25th New Super Lucky's Tale - 3rd Quarter The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening - Sept 20th Alien: Isolation - 4th Quarter Luigi's Mansion 3 - 4th Quarter Night in the Woods - 4th Quarter Doom: Eternal - Nov 22nd
I'm pretty sure that this was the best E3 Nintendo has ever had, at least for my personal taste in games. I'll be picking up New Super Lucky's Tale, Alien: Isolation, Doom: Eternal, Luigi's Mansion 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening with that adorable little amiibo all day 1; and I haven't bought a game on day 1 since the original Wii was current gen. =)
I've always been a Nintendo fan at heart, and Super Lucky's Tale is without a shadow of a doubt my all time favorite 3D platformer, so I'm beyond elated to see this wondrously charming and fun game making it's way to the Switch!
No Sonic 3 & Knuckles on the game list and yet they're releasing a little plastic non-functional Sonic & Knuckles lock-on cart for the system. Sega is just taunting us now lol
Ah well, I've still got my real Sega trifecta to play those on =)
Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow for the Game Boy Advance, alternating between playing it on an original Game Boy Advance with a backlit screen mod and the GameCube's Game Boy Player. Basically an old school Nintendo Switch. =)
Personally I don't generally care for save states, I never feel like I legitimately beat a game if I used save states in the process. The only exception is if I'm playing on a portable system and just use a save state as a way to basically pause the game without my system's battery draining, so I can exit out of the game for a little bit when real life calls then get back to it later when I have the time. I'm totally happy to use save states like that, I just never use them as a way to circumvent the number of lives/continues a game gives you or cheat my way through a hard spot.
I recently got an EverDrive GBA X5 for my AGS-101 modded Game Boy Advance, so this weekend I finished Metroid: Zero Mission and I'm now playing through Sonic Advance 2 for the first time. =)
@Lizuka Same here, 30 FPS and 60 FPS always looks the same to me. I definitely notice a difference between 20 and 30 FPS, but once it goes to 30 or above it all looks the same to me. On the upside, that means I don't have to be picky about frame rate when it comes to game selection. =)
It seems fairly safe to presume that the Switch Lite or whatever they're going to call it will be out by the time Pokémon Sword & Shield hit market, so if it's not being announced at E3 then Nintendo must be planning a Direct for the unveiling. Either that or they're simply not telling the truth, it wouldn't be the first time.
Awesome to see Link's Awakening take the top spot! It was my first Zelda game (aside from a few brief hours playing Zelda II on the NES in the hospital after having my tonsils taken out as a kid, which I enjoyed so much that my parents stopped at Toys R Us and got me Link's Awakening on the way home) and to this day it's still my favorite entry in the series. =)
S'alright, I'm not really into Smash either. I just haven't had much interest in fighting games in general since the 16-bit era when Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter II were still relatively new.
Very thorough review! I only recently discovered Alex Kidd when I got into researching and collecting for the Master System (the Genesis / Mega Drive is my usual go-to retro system) and it's wonderful to see such an iconic SMS game get the Sega Ages treatment. I'll be picking it up for sure! Actually, I'm going to stop typing this post and go buy it right... about... now.
It would be kind of a bummer for me personally if new Switch revisions come out this summer, since I just got my Switch last month and definitely don't have the money to run out and buy an enhanced version, but I wouldn't feel too sore about them doing it either. I know there are some hardware issues with the Switch that need sorting, like analog stick drift, cracking casings and battery life, so if Nintendo wants to fix those and do some other upgrades in the process then that's a good thing for fans. I'd upgrade eventually, but probably not for at least a couple years.
I'm playing two games this weekend, Dust: An Elysian Tail on the Switch and Resident Evil: Revelations on my New 3DS XL. Even after all these years I think RE: Revelations is still one of the best looking games on the 3DS, and probably my favorite entry in the series since Resident Evil 4. =)
Very cool! Not a fan of the visual style of Cuphead myself, but it does give me a lot of hope that the rumor of another Xbox exclusive Super Lucky's Tale coming to Switch may indeed be true. =)
@Thesharkfromjaws Same here, the internet speed in the midwestern United States is simply not up to the task of whatever Google and Microsoft are planning.
Still playing Doom and Sonic Mania Plus like I was the last couple weeks since I got my Switch. I've beaten Sonic Mania Plus's mania mode twice and encore mode once now so I feel like I'm pretty much done with the game, and I'll probably wrap my my third play through of Doom (on Ultra Violence difficulty and taking the time to find all the secrets this time around) this weekend too so I really need to save up the cash and buy a new game to play. I'm leaning towards either Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, or Resident Evil: Revelations 2.
Great little summary of the options on the market! I'm really happy with my setup of Mario Odyssey Red Joy-Cons plus a dark blue Hori D-Pad Left Joy-Con for retro gaming on the go and one of the original Game Boy themed 8BitDo SN30 Pro controllers for playing on the big screen. =)
Just a note though, the Retro-Bit Power Stick linked to in the arcade stick section is for the NES, not the Switch.
I just bought a Switch and experienced it for the first time last week, and I gotta say it was the best decision I've made in the last two years. I've got so many amazing games to catch up on, and a whole ton more to come in the next two years!
Meh, I already bought all three on both the GameCube and the Wii so I'll be waiting for a Resident Evil 7 or Resident Evil 2 Remake port unless they add a significant amount of new content to make the old games that I've already played through a dozen times over worth buying yet again.
After wanting a Switch for the last two years I finally got one tonight, and the two games I bought with it were Doom and Sonic Mania Plus; so those two are what I'm playing this weekend! =)
Take the Nintendo Life design for the Switch Mini, replace the analog sticks with circle pads for streamlined pocketability, then swap out those horrendous directional buttons for a proper D-Pad and I'd say we're good to go. =)
I'm going with "no" until such time as a cost reduced Switch comes to market that can hit that magical $200 USD or less price point. For now the 3DS is still filling a market need for those who enjoy Nintendo titles but simply cannot afford a Switch.
Tanglewood for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive. There's a copy all wrapped up and sitting under the tree just waiting to be opened and played. =) Until then it's Contra: Hard Corps and Rocket Knight Adventures.
For me the biggest reason to choose physical over digital wasn't an option in the poll, that being that 20 years from now physical games will still be around. If some retro collector wants to get into the Switch a couple decades from now they're not going to be able to download any digital games on it because the servers supporting the Switch eShop will have long since gone offline, but they'll still be able to walk into a used game store and pick up copies of physical games for the Switch to play. Physical media is a way of preserving games for future generations to enjoy.
Nice review! It sounds like Pokémon: Let's Go ended up being exactly the game that it set out to be. A nice easy going entry point into the series with lots of charm and all the important bits that make Pokémon games fun still intact. =)
So awesome to see a Boyographic video featured on NintendoLife! Without a doubt one of my favorite YouTube channels that should have way more views than it does.
Always love seeing Genesis / Mega Drive articles, since that was my first home console growing up. Back then I had an original Game Boy too though, so I never got too involved in the playground console wars. I loved both Sega and Nintendo, and I still do. =)
Spooky stuff for Halloween of course! This weeked I'm playing Ghost Manor on the Atari 2600, Splatterhouse 3 on the Sega Genesis, and Escape From Bug Island! on the Wii.
It's not a game I can imagine many people would want to play in the future, but it's still a piece of gaming history lost. Unless some industrious hacker managed to back it up that is, which is quite possible. Though folks love to complain about hackers, they are the only ones preserving today's digital-only game releases for future generations to enjoy.
I'm still sticking with a New 3DS XL and haven't bought a Switch yet because it's just too darn big too carry around in a pocket, and too expensive for my budget. All I want from the Switch at this point is a smaller pocket-friendly and cost reduced model for dedicated portable play.

Re: Feature: The Best Movie Licences On Nintendo Systems
Alien 3 and Alien vs Predator on the original Game Boy were both surprisingly good, especially considering the publisher for the first one.
Re: Nintendo Shares Colourful Graphic Outlining Upcoming Switch Releases
My 2019 Switch game buying list:
Raiden V: Director's Cut - July 25th
New Super Lucky's Tale - 3rd Quarter
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening - Sept 20th
Alien: Isolation - 4th Quarter
Luigi's Mansion 3 - 4th Quarter
Night in the Woods - 4th Quarter
Doom: Eternal - Nov 22nd
