All they had to do was show a glimpse into Pikmin 4 and it would have been complete. That's not to say the show wasn't fantastic.
I was hoping for more surprises, felt like there were mainly just release dates and some new trailers. Botw sequel was nice though, but didn't really feel new and surprising in the way I wanted
It was great and really gave the fans what they wanted and some things that I wasn’t expecting. It would have been nice for something interesting to happen with Switch online. Right now it’s just a way to play some old NES games, Tetris 99, and some Switch games with multiplayer. They need to do more with the service and this would have been a good time. No Samus or Metroid stuff coming for the Switch is also a bit of a letdown. Hope we can get something, anything for Metroid in 2020.
Other than that, it was great! Loved the shadow drops for Collection of Mana and Contra. Cadence of Hyrule in 2 days? Yes please. Panzer Dragoon, No More Heroes 3, Banjo in Smash, BOTW sequel... So many great things in store for Switch. You have to be pretty jaded and not interested in anything about Nintendo to claim that was just a so-so presentation. It was awesome and totally worth the hype.
There are so many high quality games packed into the second half of this year, it's crazy. How I'm gonna find the time and money to play them all I'll never know but I'm gonna try my best.
@Joe-b Yeah, I was hoping for Pikmin and Metroid to be mentioned or something. But still, amazing show. I can't get enough of that Zelda trailer. Amazing music/sound design!
What an awesome E3 direct. I loved it!
New Smash characters, Dark Crystal, full Witcher 3 game, Panzer Dragoon, Trials of Mana, BotW 2, and so much more. Go Nintendo!
@NotTelevision Yeah, I was strongly expecting an SNES online app with games. Hopefully soon!
Mario Tennis is finally on sale!
As you were.
@60frames-please Yeah maybe it is still too early in their perspective. They really are milking the NES for all it’s worth, right? For me now that you can play all the NES Castlevanias and Contras, my interest in that app has reached an all time low. They also just released Double Dragon 2 for the service. That was the last game I cared to make it over.
It really is time to move on.
I'm curious about that Sunken City game. It sort of scratched my Eternal Darkness vibe.
Personally, I was completely let down. Don't get me wrong, Nintendo still managed to throw a lot of left hooks and there are some games that went on my radar because of this direct. Though most of them I heard from before. I think the most genuine surprise for me came from the actual Trials of Mana remake.
While I loved the added information for Luigi's Mansion 3 and Astral Chain, both of them have been revealed so far. The same was for Dragon Quest XI.
What surprised me, was that Cadence of Hyrule was relegated to the normal thursday release, instead of a download now, but maybe they wanted to give Square-Enix some extra marketing space, as it seems that this dev is slowly getting onto the Switch train.
Though I have to admit the Breath of the Wild sequel announcement did nothing for me, as this was now the third game in the The Legend of Zelda IP that got featured on this direct only.
I still miss many dormant IPs like the often clamored F-Zero and it would have been nice if Nintendo had something in the oven for this or other seemingly forgotten franchises.
Also interesting was, that Bayonetta 3 was missing, but this was probably done by design, to give Astral Chain more time in the limelight.
Despite my lack of joy over this direct, I still believe it was a smart move to show the games selected for various reason. A curious tidbit that apart from Luigi's Mansion and Pokémon, everything had a release date that did not exceed the end of September, so they probably want to ship those games first, especially with Nintendo not reliant on the E³ or anything similar for more announcements.
So, while this E³ was not exactly for me and I had not been blown away, I hope all of you others are happy gamers and look forward to the multitude of titles.
I preferred squares presentation, this e3 felt lacking compared to last years.
Might be because I was hoping for hardware or a game streaming announcement.
But, Nintendo didn't talk about any switch quality of life improvements like expansion of back catalogue via Nintendo online beyond the New, and although we're getting a Netflix game we still don't have Netflix!
I was also hoping for some sports franchises, even confirmation of Ubi's new game would have been good, or more importantly a classic style fps with local multiplayer, GoldenEye or timesplitters in nature, the switch is crying out for one. Though, happy to see super lucky tale will certainly pick that up. My highlight switch announcement was from square and is ffviii remaster, that's a day and date buy from me.
I thought it was a great direct. All the games we knew about and plenty we didn’t know about.
Sure there will be plenty of duds in there too but overall plenty of wallet busting games on the horizon. I can’t wait for Witcher 3 and hope the port is decent.
More Doom and Wolfenstein is excellent news and Animal Crossing will be great when we finally get it in 2020.
I liked the look of Astral Chain and Marvel looks plain madness!
Panzer Dragoon was a great reveal - loved that game and if the gameplay remains the same with sipped up visuals I will be on that day one!
Roll on the next 2 days of TreeHouse and another direct in the Autumn no doubt!!
I've got to say that I was a bit disappointed after the direct. Sure, it was nice to see some Luigi's Mansion 3 and Animal Crossing footage, but we already knew that these games existed. If I'm correct, the only new first-party game that Nintendo announced was a sequel to BOTW (which is, of course, extremely awesome). The only other notable thing IMO was Banjo in smash, but even though that's great, it's still 'just' a DLC for an existing game so it's not something to be too excited about.
The rest of the Direct was just announcing games on the Switch that we've had for months or even for years on other platforms. I mean, it reconfirms that the Switch gets the third-party support it deserves, but again, it's not something new...
I know people tend to forget but... Jesus, we're getting PANZER DRAGOON as well! What a year to have a Switch and be a gamer!
I really enjoyed it and thought it was a really good showing in general.
That said, I was hoping for at least one completely new game to be revealed (that wasn't a port or remake) that really blew me away, and I don't think there was one. No More Heroes I guess came closest, but I enjoyed the first two games rather than loved them. There was also BotW 2, but there's always a new main line Zelda in the works, so it's a bit hard to get excited about that until I see/hear more.
Don't get me wrong though, this was only one minor disappointment, overall I was very happy with the presentation. I'm probably being a bit difficult to please here!
Loved everything, but the RE games. Horror games aren't my thing ,and heard these titles were poorly received
While i was let down with the delay of Animal Crossing, the visuals and game play looked good. I would rather wait for a good game than get a poor one sooner.
Although I won't be playing many of the games in the direct, I think it was great to have so many games coming to switch. Nintendo did a great job on this direct!
Luigi’s Mansion looks great. Definitely picking that up. Link’s awakening? Picking that up. Astral Chain? Yep. Panzer Dragoon? Yep. They’ll easily see me through to the end of the year, not counting the unfinished titles I’m still sitting on. I still see a lot of people disappointed because they had a dear Santa list prepared. Surely they should know by now that’s the worst thing you can do.
Now that the dust is starting to settle, I am wondering what has happened to Retro Studios?
I was sure we would finally see what they have been working on all this time. Another year another no show.
The Animal Crossing delay and the Pokemon Sword and Shield not supporting all Pokemon announcements soured for me what was otherwise a generally quite awesome showing from Nintendo!
But SwSh still looks like a fun game (that I will still be pre-ordering, but just the regular version now, not the double pack) and Animal Crossing looks really cool despite the delay and is still at the top of my list of wants!
Other highlights for me:
Luigi's Mansion 3
Dragon Quest 11: Attack of the long subtitle
Link's Awakening
Fire Emblem
Mario Maker
Although I am not personally interested in it, I really am surprised that the Witcher 3 rumor turned out to be true.
I have to say that Nintendo seems to have the most going for it right now. They need to capitalize on this time when PS4 and Xbone on on their way out and before PS5 and Xbox Potato release, presumably late next year.
Oh, and I hope people don't get their hopes up about the BotW sequel. If that game releases before 2021 I'll lick another Switch game card.
I thought it was good overall. BotW2 was the real bombshell but was also really excited by The Witcher 3, Panzer Dragoon, Astral Chain, Link's Awakening and No More Heroes 3. The rest, if I'm honest, was a bit boring for me personally, but I expected that. No interest in Banjo/Kazooie or the Dragon Quest characters for Smash so I'm pretty relieved I didn't buy the character pass, and Animal Crossing bores me to tears so glossed over there as well.
But overall, gotta say that E3 this year has been lacking that extra something special. The closest we've got is the Final Fantasy VII Remake from SE's conference and BotW2 from Nintendo, but the show in general still feels a little lacklustre compared to previous years.
All the first party games showcased looked great. The Botw 2 teaser gave me goosebumps. That said it was still somewhat disappointing. The direct mainly focused on what we already knew aside from certain surprise announcments like BotW and Witcher 3. There are so many things fans have been asking for that haven't been adressed. Hopefully we get another direct this year/early next year with some surprises.
@Heavyarms55 Well, the leaker king Zell said a few months back that if you liked botw, you'd love 2020.
My guess is this is what he was talking about, and nintendos aiming for a holiday 2020 release (though it could be delayed)
An even larger plan would be to sell a switch mini alongside animal crossing in spring, and then release a pro version and show off on it with botw 2
This year was pretty good, I'm totally satisfied and can't wait for this fall. but I still think 2017 was the best one
I normally comment on pushsquare.com and very rarely here but to be honest, I thought it was a pretty decent e3. Some great third party reveals and clearly the big N are benefiting from merging handheld and console support. Apart from thinking about spending 35 quid for a wii version of the metroid trilogy, I'm a happy gamer. Great show!!
All I saw was game after game with yesterday's graphics 🙄 (or simply games FROM yesterday)
And OMG, that old guy in Astral Chain with the plastic hair 😂
I felt like I was in 2009.
Almost the only games that genuinely looked good were Nintendo's own because they build the games from scratch with the Switch's limitations in mind. Rather than porting a AAA game and setting the AAA-intended graphics to potato.
The reaction overall seems to be really positive and I’m glad for everyone who loved it. It’s just that this year’s announcements weren’t for me, not being a huge fan of Luigi’s Mansion, Animal Crossing, or even BOTW. I do think that next year is going to be absolutely bonkers for video games!
@60frames-please yah, still an amazing show. Maybe pikmin will be shown at Christmas, 2019 hopefully. Also I love Animal Crossing but this one doesn't seem all that great, as of yet. I know it's early.
@Arnold-Kage
5 is worth a play if you like the games / genre. 6 is a complete mess
I thought it was very strong . Being an RPG nut it seemed like game after game was right in my wheelhouse . To those who have not played The Witcher 3 .. play it . Tremendous game .
I thought Astral Chain looked great .. kind of a slight Xenoblade vibe to it so again , right up my alley.
They dropped the mic with the BOTW sequel at the end . You just knew something big was coming after the Animal crossing delay. I just hope it is a reasonable wait for it . I am intrigued by how deep the Dungeon assembling mechanic will be in Link.
Fire emblem coming soon .. My Switch is gonna be busy!
My highlights:
More Smash DLC
More Resident Evil
Witcher 3
Spyro
Alien Isolation (love survival horror games so I'd like to try this).
Breath of the Wild sequel
Link's Awakening
I think the one thing that was absent that Nintendo really needed to have was SNES games for the online service. Seriously, they can't just let it keep being NES only. They're wasting a ton of potential. Get SNES, GB, GBA, N64, and (if possible) GameCube games in there.
I'm pretty sure that this was the best E3 Nintendo has ever had, at least for my personal taste in games. I'll be picking up New Super Lucky's Tale, Alien: Isolation, Doom: Eternal, Luigi's Mansion 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening with that adorable little amiibo all day 1; and I haven't bought a game on day 1 since the original Wii was current gen. =)
@Joe-b Yeah I hope to hear something about Pikmin before 2020. Would also be great to get an SNES online app for Switch and something like Samus Returns for Switch running at 60 fps. I'm excited for Animal Crossing. Any mainline Animal Crossing is super exciting to me. I'm not a fan of the choppy and limited cell phone game. But I still love New Leaf even though it only runs at 30 fps and looks crappy to me because of that.
@Giygas_95 Yes, SNES games! And bring some Japanese games West! Translate Super Famicom Wars for us! Release the SFC Parodius in the U.S. Maybe also a Fire Emblem game we haven't gotten yet too.
@60frames-please Our only saving grace right now in that regard is when companies like Capcom and (ironically enough given their reputation) Konami release collections with SNES games on them and of course sometimes GameCube or PS2 games (games like Mega Man X8 and the Resident Evil titles come to mind, even if those Resident Evil games have been overpriced...)
@MasterJay Yeah I don't buy leaks like that. And if it's accurate I seriously question how the info was obtained and assume it was less than honest.
@60frames-please I love new leaf. I play it almost every night before I go to sleep then some more if I wake up at like 2am! I love my town and villagers. One feature I'd love to see in the new ac is where let's say there's 15 villagers....you can pick maybe 3! That would be cool.
It was OK, with a few more games than we were expecting. Obviously not everyone wants to play every game but there are three I will pre order and maybe three I will buy depending on reviews, so that will keep me going until........
.......and that is the thing, keep me going until what? Animal Crossing? No I'm not an AC fan.
The new Switch mini released in the Spring with Animal Crossing (that's why it was held back), no I don't want a Switch mini, unless it looks like a 3ds and plays 3d games.
Until next E3? Apart from the games we already knew about what was the big wow? Banjo in Smash: is that it. 🙄
Great direct! Only needed pikmin 4 news to be even better
@Heavyarms55 even if the leak is accurate to what nintendo would like it still doesn't mean anything because they have no problem delaying games. So until it's ready to come out I can't take even nintendo date seriously.
I'm a older gamer so I tend to lean towards the classics. I would have liked to seen things like punch out, f zero, metroid, pikman, donkey Kong, star fox. I'm excited for Luigi mansion and zelda though but I have no interest in Pokémon, animal crossing and the botw sequel is at least a year away.
Really I want to know if pikman 4 exists. What has retro been working on? Could we not get the 3ds metroid ported? What about f zero gx hd port? Nvidia managed to upscale some Wii games, could we not get those on switch. And it's great that banjo is dlc but I was really expecting that announcement to follow with the two 64 games being on the eshop.
Finally nintendo didn't give me pilotwings but microsoft did give me flight simulator.
@Heavyarms55 I would expect that one for holiday 2020 because most of the non mainline Mario/Zelda games are already being released in 2019 fiscal year. BOTW 2 could be Nintendo’s killer app of 2020. The game’s engine (by all indications at least) appears to be the same as the previous game, so that will significantly shorten development time.
I've stayed mostly on top of E3 this year despite everything I have going on, but I appreciate this all the same. It's a nice summary for those who like the info all in one place and/or aren't able to watch the presentations live.
I loved the direct, BUT WHERE IS PIKMIN 4 AHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAhem
@Bevinator
yes
@Giygas_95 Yeah, and Onimusha. But it seems like it would be so easy for Nintendo to put their own classic games on Switch. I'd buy wireless SNES controllers, especially if they could be used for other games on Switch. Why can't we play Super Famicom Wars, Parodius, Kirby's Dream Course, F-Zero, Yoshi's Island, and Super Metroid on Switch?
@Joe-b It is an amazingly good game!
I thought the Direct was terrific. I mean, I have a little bias as I'm a nut for Animal Crossing haha. But here's my take. Luigi's Mansion 3 looked a lot better than last time and I'm stoked to play it. Fire Emblem's story seems really interesting. No More Heroes 3, The Witcher 3, and the Spyro Reignited Trilogy were nice surprises.
The showstoppers for me were all saved to the end as the last 3 big reveals. Animal Crossing: New Horizons looked awesome. It threw me off at first but I think it'll be a nice progression for the franchise. There seems to be a lot more customization now. I don't mind waiting an extra few months if it means were getting a crafting system with full-town customization.
That Banjo reveal had me freaking out like a 5 year old on Christmas morning. I have so many memories of watching my older brother play through the first two Banjo games on the Nintendo 64. I love those games, especially the first one, sooooo much. We always wanted to see him in Smash 64 or Melee. The legendary Rare buyout back in 2002 was one of the saddest things for me as Banjo was basically killed after. I mean, there were a couple of GBA games that fell under the radar and the controversial Nuts and Boltz game. But they just felt like slaps in the face to me and we saw nothing else after. Seeing Banjo jump out in Ultimate with his original design was almost too much for me. I never cried during a game reveal before but I came so to doing so during that reveal.
Oddly enough, I keep forgetting that Breath of the Wild's sequel was announced. I think it's because Animal Crossing and Banjo were my two dream announcements and they came true right before Zelda. Plus it probably won't be coming out for a while. Fingers crossed for a holiday 2020 release! Oh, and please give us a lot more unique dungeons. That was Breath of the Wild's week point, at least for me.
I guess I can see why some people may have been a bit disappointed as Nintendo only had one new first-party game reveal. But we saw everything that I wanted to see plus a new Zelda. Give me more presentations like this!
@NotTelevision I'm still not betting on it. But I wont complain if I am proved wrong.
@DeathByLasagna And they are saving Pikmin 4 and Boyonetta 3 maybe for a Christmas Direct? Or next E3? I can't believe how much they showed, it makes me wonder about next years list!
My fingers are definitely crossed for a Pikmin 4 reveal before the end of the year. In fact, I'm still pretty surprised we haven't gotten Pikmin 3 ported over yet. Regardless, I think 2020 will be a really good year for the Switch as well. We're in the mid-years of the console's life-cycle, which are usually the most packed.
