Re: SEGA Knows Fans Want Sonic Adventure 3

Skippy_B_Coyote

I just wish the Sonic team would figure out what they want a Sonic game to be and stick with it. Every modern Sonic game I've played has been a mash up of several different play styles, like "Here's a 3D open world level" then "Here's a on rails running level" and "Here's a 2D platformer level". Modern Sonic games have been having a serious identity crisis this past decade and I sure wish the Sonic team would just figure out what kind of game they want Sonic to be and stick with it. You don't see Mario doing this kinda @!#?@.

Re: Poll: A Week On, How Do You Feel About the Nintendo Switch?

Skippy_B_Coyote

I really like the concept of the Switch, but $300 is a ton of money for someone on a tight budget like me and personally a new Zelda game alone can't justify the expense. So for the time being I'm going to hold off on the Switch until next year when it's game library has had some time to grow then see if it might be worth picking up. A new Metroid Prime game, DOOM, or even just a port of Star Fox Zero (a game I really wanted to play when it came out but never owned a Wii U) could definitely get me on the Switch bandwagon, but for now I'll be holding off until a couple more games I'd be interested in playing come along for it.

Re: Say Hello To The Super Retro Boy, An All-In-One Game Boy Solution

Skippy_B_Coyote

I think the L and R button placement will be less than ideal for a lot of Game Boy Advance games, but I like that they went with the classic Game Boy form factor. At the MSRP of $80 I'll buy one if it can display Game Boy / Color games in their native aspect ratio and doesn't stretch them to fit the GBA screen ratio.

The rechargable battery pack does worry me slightly, since it may be proprietary and require some ingenuity to replace when it eventually wears out after a few years, but since I'm kind of a fanatic for all things Game Boy I'd be willing to give it a shot as long as they get the aspect ratios right.

Re: Budget New Nintendo 3DS Models Announced for North America

Skippy_B_Coyote

For two years now I've been saying that I was going to hold off on buying a New 3DS until Nintendo released the regular sized black version in North America, and complaining that they hadn't done it yet. Now that it's finally coming I think I'm kinda obligated to put my money where my mouth is and go queue up outside a store 2 or 3 hours before they open on Black Friday to try and get one.

Re: Gallery: Let's Take a Look at the Nintendo Switch

Skippy_B_Coyote

@unovachamp90 I don't know, the Pro Controller looks kinda like a cheap plasticy prototype to me and Sega Genesis controllers were pretty much bomb proof. Like, if there was ever a global thermonuclear war that wiped out all of civilization then the only things that would be left are cockroaches, Twinkies, and Sega Genesis controllers. The Switch Pro Controller doesn't look quite that durable.

Re: Talking Point: Unique and Affordable - Nintendo's NX Needs to Avoid Direct Competition With PlayStation and Xbox

Skippy_B_Coyote

I agree with the writer completely on this one. In a current gaming landscape dominated by tech specs and techo babble, what Nintendo really needs to do right now is make everyone remember that we play games to have fun and higher tech specs do not equal more fun. There are mountains upon mountains of 8-bit and 16-bit games of yesteryear that are still just as enjoyable to play today as they were the day they came out.

For more complex and story focused games graphics can certainly play a key role in story telling and making the world feel believable to the player, but you don't need 4K (or even HD for that matter) resolution to pull that off. Developers have been putting out wonderfully fun and engrossing 3D action and adventure games since the days of the N64, original PlayStation, and Saturn; and I'm fairly certain that the NX will have graphical capabilities greater than any of those systems.

As long as Nintendo does what they do best and make an affordably priced system that's fun and engaging to play with then the tech specs won't matter, they'll still sell just fine. =)

Re: Retro: Remember When Nintendo Ditched The Headphone Socket?

Skippy_B_Coyote

As much as I adore my AGS-101 model GBA SP and consider it the best way to play Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games on the go, I do have to admit that the audio quality is pretty terrible when it's being piped through the charging port. Even the best headphone adapter available for the system (which is the little blue Intec one as far as I can tell) still results is crackly audio with a somewhat annoying underlying hissing sound unless you crank the volume way up.

But hey, it plays Doom and Doom II on a beautiful backlit screen so I think any little niggles I might have over the audio quality can be forgiven. =)

Re: We Have To Do A Better Job Of Explaining The Uniqueness Of NX, Admits Reggie

Skippy_B_Coyote

What I got out of all that, regarding the NX, is that it's undoubtedly going to be a system that does some very different things from it's Sony and Microsoft competitors that will require a bit of explanation to the general public. After the Wii U debacle though I have every confidence that Nintendo has taken the import of effective marketing strategies in the West to heart and will be properly explaining what exactly the NX is and how it's different from the other systems on the market when they feel that it's time to unveil it. I just hope that the unveiling comes sooner rather than later!

Re: DFC Intelligence Believes the Nintendo NX Could Target "Lost Console Generation" of Young Gamers

Skippy_B_Coyote

They do make a lot of good points, and with the whole widespread retro gaming craze that's been going on for the last half a decade or so I think a lot of adults as well as kids would appreciate having a simpler gaming system to use. There's a lot to be said for just popping in a cartridge, pressing the power button, and be playing a game; rather than try to wade through menu systems, wait to download patches and updates, and have to mess around with all the other unnecessary and often frustrating complexities that modern gaming is so prone to. I don't know how many other people would buy a console without any sort of OS or online connectivity in this day and age, but I do know that I'd sure buy one in heartbeat. Sometimes less is more (fun).

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Sets Criteria to Turn Nintendo's Virtual Reality Research Into a Product

Skippy_B_Coyote

I completely agree with Miyamoto's take on VR. With the current technology out there VR just isn't something that can be used for more than short periods without making most people nauseous, and it's still very expensive to make said nausea generators. VR is definitely something that Nintendo should avoid until the technology improves and doesn't cause nausea in the majority of its users, and I think Sony will be learning that lesson as well when PSVR launches later this year.

Re: E3 2016: Hyperkin's "April Fools" Game Boy Phone Attachment Is Alive And Well

Skippy_B_Coyote

The funny thing to me is that as cool as this device looks, it will probably end up being more expensive than it is to go buy a real original Game Boy these days. A good condition Game Boy with a new scratch-free screen protector installed tends to run about $25 to $30 USD, and somehow I think Hyperkin's new Game Boy impersonator might end up being a bit more expensive lol Still pretty cool looking though.

Re: E3 2016: Reggie Says VR "Needs to be Mainstream" For Nintendo To Get Involved

Skippy_B_Coyote

At this point there I think there is one major factor that should make any consumer electronics company avoid trying to market current VR technology, and I imagine it's probably the biggest reason Nintendo isn't going to get into the VR business any time soon. That factor being that about 30% of humans get "VR sickness" from just a few minutes of using current VR headsets, resulting in nausea and usually vomiting. Needless to say, when 1 out of every 3 of your customers starts throwing up after trying out the expensive new $400+ toy they just bought from your company you are going to have a LOT of returns to deal with and lose some pretty enormous amounts of money in the process. VR is a lovely idea, but the technology just isn't there yet to be able to pull it off without making about 30% of people who try it violently ill. Nintendo was very smart to pass on the VR trend, and I think Sony will be in for some very difficult times once all the returns start coming in.

Re: E3 2016: How The Sin of Getting Lost Has Been Pardoned in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Skippy_B_Coyote

Getting lost has been a problem for me in every 3D Zelda game other than Twilight Princess, but I grew up with 2D games and have never had very good situational awareness when it comes to 3D games; so I'm guessing I probably just miss a lot of environmental cues that younger players who grew up with 3D games might be more attune to. Still, I did have a ton of fun spending innumerable hours wandering around and enjoying the worlds of the Elder Scrolls games (Oblivion and Skyrim especially) so I'm really looking forward to Breath of the Wild. Getting lost isn't so bad if you're constantly stumbling into neat new things to discover, and Breath of the Wild sure seems to be packed no shortage of those. =)
