Re: Review: Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection - Divine Dungeon Crawling But Not Definitive

Sillyeyepatch

Guess I'll just echo what everyone else is saying. I've not played these games before and I'd love to add them to my collection, but that asking price is just too much when there is no physical besides importing it, and that's coming from someone who picked up the whole FF Pixel Remaster collection.

Not only that, the lack of story seems like it's going to really grate, 100+ hours with no real drive? Not to mention the difficulty and the way the game seems to punish you if you distribute your stats incorrectly doesn't exactly scream 'buy me' and the fact that I find DRPGS a little boring. I still have the Mary Skelter collection, Lost child and the Labyrinth games that I haven't touched yet. Wait do I even want this at all? xD deep sale maybe. You get stung if you buy them seperately as well £108 if you can't afford all 3 at once, jeez.

Re: Disney Dreamlight Valley Reveals "Updated 2023 Content Roadmap"

Sillyeyepatch

Oh no time to lose another 50 hours of my life with this update, nah just kidding, I can't wait! xD

@ScribbleDot
Unpopular opinion but I've clocked 220 hours on this game, with content constantly coming to pull me back in and get me to pick it up again, It was worth every penny to be able to play the early access in my opinion. I haven't put any more money into it because there is literally no need, if they keep the way the game is structured when it goes FTP (and they said they are) it will be the most well done FTP ever made.

Re: Best Pokémon-Likes On Nintendo Switch - Games To Play After You've Finished Pokémon

Sillyeyepatch

@Broosh
My god why did I not know this and worst of all not played it yet? xD I got I cause it was on sale and had FF in the name and I was collecting them all to play them eventually (you know how the backlog is) and that went really well cause it took till this year for me to start playing them (up to ff III so far)

Anyway, thanks for your comment, I'm more hyped about that one now

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon Desperately Needs A Rival, But Who's Big Enough To Take It On?

Sillyeyepatch

@Thief
Nah its never gonna even come close in numbers, that's for sure, doesn't matter how good the game is. But for the people who really want better Pokemon, that's where to look. Thing is it's the same in any genre, let's say people love Final Fantasy (just an example) chances are they are not going to actually go out of their way to put some research in and find games that are similar to them, maybe even better in some respects, they would rather moan online about how their favorite series has changed/declined in quality then seek out of alternatives. If more people did this there would be more buzz about monster collectors.

What I'm saying is there needs to be a Stardew Valley scenario that revitalizes and enriches the genre, and gets other devs to be inspired and jump on that train, before that game there weren't any other farm sims, now go to any article on this site and you'll see people disgruntled by how many there are.

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon Desperately Needs A Rival, But Who's Big Enough To Take It On?

Sillyeyepatch

I say it doesn't need a 'big' rival, you can't compete with all the nostalgia the series has behind it, which will keep being passed down as people have children and introduce them to it. Keep it how it is now with little indie teams with a lot of passion and great ideas making these 'knock-offs' to the point where it's own genre entirely and not seen as merely clones. Cassette Beasts despite its terrible switch port is the best monster collector I've played since Black and White, more of this please. And as more people lose faith and get jaded with Pokemon (which will continue to happen) the more these will sell and coexist alongside Pokemon.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 27th)

Took a break from TOTK to play Casette Beasts. This game is fantastic, but the performance is really affecting my enjoyment of it, it just deserves better than this. If I get too frustrated with it I plan to go back to TOTK again.

Edit: Also I had the exact same issue with TOTK as @olliemar28 described at the start. Take a break, see other games and don't feel guilty about it. The sheer scope and how many hours it's going to take gave me anxiety as well and I got so overwhelmed that literal tears were shed, no pun intended because I wanted to get into it so bad. But when you play something else and go back to it, it's bliss I promise. I think this one suits well to being on the back burner for months, and years to come and then every time you return to it it will always be refreshing, that and you get the added bonus of not being stuck picking the next game to play if you use it as an inbetween!

Re: The Pokémon Franchise Has Now Shipped Over 480 Million Software Units

Sillyeyepatch

@JohnnyMind
Well it depends how much I want the game. If I can't wait to add it to my collection then I'll grab it at launch, issues or not (Just did that with Casette Beasts) But if I can live without it, i'll stick it on the wishlist and wait for the problems to be resolved, and that's how I feel about Tales. Half the time I don't notice performance issues, I only have a Switch so I'm not spoiled with 60FPS and the like.

It's more if it has saving bugs like Kao the Kangaroo on launch that I'll steer clear.

But yeah I definitely agree with you, and I do believe that devs deserve the chance to fix their mistakes, but I think, rewarding them with a purchase after they have solved the problems speaks volumes as well, and too much blind purchasing (which I am guilty of with Pokemon) enables the devs to take their time getting updates out because people just bought the thing up anyway.

Re: The Pokémon Franchise Has Now Shipped Over 480 Million Software Units

The gameplay loop is fun. That's it.

People are hooked on it including myself, that's why they keep getting away with it. At the end of the day gameplay is key, everything else just isn't as important and this franchise proves it. Yep I'm gonna be buying the next one regardless of quality, yet if any other game had these problems I would wait for patches, that's exactly what I'm doing with Tales of Symphonia. It makes me feel ashamed and dirty saying that, but it's just honest.

I'm playing Cassette Beasts right now, which has performance problems as well but it's so dang good in spite of that, this formula is timeless and there's nothing else like it.

If I never got introduced to Pokemon, I would never found gaming, and it's my favourite thing to do in this mortal life, so I will be forever grateful to the franchise for that reason.

Re: Story Of Seasons Multiplayer Game Announced Alongside New Traditional Instalment

Sillyeyepatch

They should have put in a 'lot of extra effort into the visual presentation' a long time ago, I said this on another thread, but these games peaked on the 3DS for me, anything that has come out on Switch has been a downgrade, If my kid self playing AWL looked into the future, she wouldn't have imagined the games would look and play like this. I say this from a place of love, stop rushing the games out to pump money like a certain pocket monster franchise, and take your time and deliver something great.

Oh and multiplayer? I have no friends, so... think this will flop judging by the comments here, who exactly was asking for this?

Re: Harvest Moon: The Winds Of Anthos Pre-Orders Come With Adorable Cuddly Cow

Sillyeyepatch

@JohnnyMind
Definitely! They just need to stop praying on people's ignorance using the Harvest Moon name. People who love these style of games usually pick up every one they can (funds permitting) so there is definitely room for some competition if they listen to player feedback and actually try and make their games stand out and be a bit different/creative then they have potential to grow their reputation and actually compete with Story of Seasons.

As Lizuka said those games (SOS) have been hit or miss as of late, I still enjoyed them don't get me wrong, but I personally think they peaked at their 3DS games. Before you could be waiting years for the next Bokujo game, and the high quality made them worth the wait, now there seems to be one nearly every year so it feels like they are pumping them out to make money than actually taking the time to perfect their games, and when indie competitors are making better games not just Stardew either, they seriously need to up their game, and that goes for both Natsume and the Story of Seasons franchise.

INB4 farm sim overload comments.

At least it looks like they are trying a bit harder this time. I did actually enjoy the last game despite it looking like trash it did have some good ideas. I've never played a farm sim that I've actually disliked so I like to keep an open mind and not become part of the echo chamber that actively bash these games before trying them, but its worth noting I'm easily pleased and graphics don't really bother me. What I don't like is how they are still trying to fool their customers into thinking they are the OG Harvest moon by marketing things like their 25th anniversary which is just plain incorrect, that really rubs me the wrong way.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 20th)

After a rocky start with Zelda (I felt overwhelmed by the scope of it all) something just clicked and I was like oh I get the game now, and honestly once that happened I have been having an absolute blast with it.

That being said, this is a game I want to savour and keep around for years and in playing something else I'm just extending my hype about the game and I'm always thinking about it. The something else I'm playing is Trinity Trigger, good game but not worth the price I paid IMO, nonetheless I'm pretty far in I think, hoping to be done with it before Cassette Beasts releases.

Also been drawing again after a long hiatus (I'm not good at art, but it's fun)

edit My god that poll, never seen it so skewed xD

Re: Zelda's Tears Of The Kingdom VA Took Inspiration From The Hit HBO Show "Game Of Thrones"

Sillyeyepatch

I can see that. I do feel bad that this VA gets bashed on a lot, I think the voice is because of her royalty, but said royalty doesn't match her personality, that's the issue. Someone kinda touched on this but I would like it if this was her voice in the first game, where she is trying to live up to her role and thus be uncomfortable, and slowly over time her voice softens and becomes more natural, especially when she is giddy about something like a frog or an artefact, like she slowly let's her guard down, especially around Link.
