Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 29th)

Sillyeyepatch

Long tangent before getting to the actual playing:

I've had a bit of an unlucky patch with games where what I've played hasn't really impressed me. For example, I started playing Dredge and all I can say is that game is either massively overhyped, or it just didn't click with me, it didn't scare me at all, it was just frustrating. Dredging an item for a quest or catching an undiscovered fish only for you to lose it when (insert totally un-scary fish monster here) comes and wrecks your boat just grated on me so much. I was hoping for chill fishing and deeply unsettling gameplay, I didn't think it would be a survival-lite kinda game.
I also tried Disney Magical World 2 and I thought it would play like a pre-Dreamlight valley but honestly it felt like it was for literal babies and trust me I am a complete (wo)man child. I also loved FF 1 but hated FF2 so that left me feeling a bit sour. Other disappointments this year include Ryza 3, Chaos;Head, Labyrinth of Zangetsu, Valthrian arc, I'm sure there are loads more as well but when I play lots of stinkers it really makes me lose faith in the purchases I have made and get a little down honestly, despite it being a first world problem. I don't have any other hobbies besides gaming (I don't even watch TV on my own) so I just kinda sit there with my own head in my free time and I put so much pressure on myself to make the right choice when I'm picking what to play... Anyway...

What I finally decided on playing was Persona 4 Golden I loved the other two games so that was an incredibly safe bet for me and it seems like I made the right call. That loop between dungeons and free time just can't be replicated, it was slow to start but it's good so far, though the characters are grating on me in this game more than usual, Teddy and Chie in particular are so annoying both in voice and personality that I can't decide if I should change the voices to Japanese even though I usually play with English just because of the immersion factor. I do have this gut feeling that I will like it a lot but it will be my least favorite out of the 3. I just loved P3P as well, it was so edgy and the 2010s emo in me was having a field day with that game.

But yeah hope everyone else had a bit more luck with games than me xD
When you buy/play as many as I do, there's bound to be some that don't gel.

@MTMike87
You are most welcome.
I felt a little bit of keyboard warrior come out of me then but the things some were saying, I couldn't just watch. It's very mature of you to have those views even when you haven't been through it yourself it's a good quality and one that is clearly lacking in most people.

I agree. I would say it's borderline torture, but no you can just quit because some ad told you to and it clearly means you must hate yourself and don't appreciate your life if you willingly damage yourself like that.

I would hazard to guess that a lot of people self-medicate with Smoking, drugs or alcohol because the mental health system hasn't worked for them, it isn't a one size fits all deal and I doubt it ever will be.

Welp the small minded-ness of people never ceases to amaze me.

Thing is there are some very inconsiderate people which I happily called out that partake in it and that just adds fuel to the fire and almost validates the negative stigmas surrounding it when the world is heavily skewed to the anti-smoking side as is (with good reason) but like any discrimination it stems from a small minority of idiotic people. Most smokers especially this day and age stay the heck away from people whilst doing it because the health concerns are far more well known.

Yeah I don't like it either. Awareness is good and there definitely should be ads like this, but keep it away from family-friendly media.

@JohnnyMind
Heh. Trust me it was more of a budget issue than one of wisdom, but judging by this it does look like I dodged a bullet there, sounds like the game equivalent of chalk on a chalkboard.

That being said though, there are games that have reviewed poorly which I've loved and I'm sure it has been the same for you at at least one moment in your gaming history, so I wouldn't write it off just yet, there may be some fragments of fun to be had, and maybe when you are ready to play it they might have done some serious patchwork to rejuvenate it to feel like a whole new game.

Re: Random: Anti-Smoking Campaign Is Part Animal Crossing, Part Creature Horror

Sillyeyepatch

Was trying really hard not to leave a serious comment here but I guess I failed.

Smokers know that it's dumb. They know that it's bad and that they should stop and if they don't it will very likely kill them, they joke about it because they are mocking themselves, because they probably think it's pathetic and wish they never started to begin with, that way they'd be healthier, have more money and not be a slave to a drug that is more addictive than heroin but far more easy to access.

It's not as easy to quit as everyone makes it out to be, and getting lectured by non-smokers has no effect whatsoever, because they can't even begin to understand what it's like, they just judge and mock something that they can't conprehend because they were lucky enough not to be exposed to it and pick it up as a habit themselves.

They get looked down upon by non-smokers like the 'natural selection' comment on this very thread like they are somehow lesser people because of a habit which is very likely to have stemmed from insecurity or mental health issues which is now being used as a crutch to get up in the morning or get through the day, it makes it nigh impossible to get out of, and even if you do, part of you will always think about it and secretly miss it. If it wasn't harmful, expensive, and smell like ass everyone would do it, it would be no different to coffee. There are so many teens that vape when they never smoked before because it is 'less bad'

No ad campaign will make a single bit of difference, the smoker needs to 100% want to quit themselves and that will needs to be stronger than the addiction itself.

Don't get me wrong though. People that smoke around non smokers are the lowest of the low, I don't know how anyone could be so selfish, I think people that just light up anywhere are very inconsiderate. The fact that it was legal to do it in restaurants not that long ago baffles my goddamn mind. Everyone has a right to clean air, and there's a special place in hell for people that do it inside around their non-smoking family members/friends. And it you want children you need to pick between the habit and the child I think, or at the very least do it discreetly and the heck away from them to not influence or harm them, and don't get me started when it comes doing it during pregnancy, just no.

But that's just my two cents.

Edit: Even if it's just emulating the style, this sort of thing should be as far as way from something wholesome like Animal Crossing as humanely possible, it was never made to push any sort of propaganda be it positive or negative and I'm surprised how many companies actually used it for advertisements when it was released. It's just in really poor taste imo and just because it's a 'popular' thing right now and it's a sort of culture shock with how much it juxtaposes the source material.

A perfectionist I see. Wish I had your discipline I just waffle on and on and hope for the best xD
You shouldn't be so hard on yourself though, you come across really well! And it's sad you delete things. What you say might be informative, relatable or even make someone's day, you never know, I really enjoy reading comment sections, and I bet I'm not alone in that. But don't sweat it, you do you. I'm usually late to reply anyway xD

Bear in mind I have no nostalgia bias because it's my first time with these games. But I loved I, found it quite cozy and relaxing, but II feels a bit of a slog. It has quite obscure game design (well it is old ) Nothing is ever spelt out and you really have to talk to everyone and try everything to progress, (I've had to resort to following a walkthrough) and the dungeons feel quite bloated, but I am well aware I might be just stupid, but it feels like they threw everything at this game to see what would stick, quite common in a first sequel I imagine. That being said, the story is better and it's got a nice balance to it difficulty wise whereas I steamrolled one. But don't let my opinion deter you, you might love it!

Heh I really need to do something to my profile but I'm too lazy, but you nailed the reference! xD
It takes a few interactions for me to remember names/icons so don't worry. I commend you for even attempting to try and finish it. I sold it on within hours, that game being how it is broke my heart, I hope the payoff will be worth it, I'm still gutted I will never know how the story concludes, I might seek it out on youtube for some closure.

I'm sorry if our interaction stressed you out! >.<
That's good. I won't lie, I've sold things I didn't want to to get out of a few rough £££ patches in my life, but it's in the past and I don't miss them now so all is well!

You can say that again! xD

heh funny enough my N64 was one of the things I parted with so I haven't played it (stadium) for years so it's why I'm enjoying it now. Once I beat it, that will do me for another few decades probably.

That's a sign of use and love! Shame life has to go and tear us apart like that. Your partner sounds like a keeper!

Yeah home is where your stuff is as they say.
Settling down with your interests is no bad thing, I sure wish I could stop adding to the pile!

Yeah Unpacking is chill and does have some charm about it, if it weren't for the hype surrounding it I might have enjoyed it more. It would be a good game to play when feeling under the weather.

Same to you!

Oh don't worry I know your troubles all too well xD
I was just being lazy and asked here. I'll scour reviews and such when I have some free time.

Think it was destined to be low priority with the wave of releases that are out/coming.

Hope you enjoy your gaming time nonetheless!

It looks great to me so thanks for commenting even if it didn't make the list
I'll grab it asap and I'll let you know what I think if I remember to.

High score chasers are brilliant if you only have a few minutes to spare, I use Void Prison for that currently, will be nice to have a change!

@Diogmites Cool beans, no pressure!

Re: Community: 22 Switch Games We Missed, As Recommended By You

Sillyeyepatch

@Diogmites
Yeah it is possible. I don't spend as much as it seems, I know of people who collect adult Lego and the sums for those sets make my Eshop spendature blush.

It's a shame you had to part with them, but hopefully you no longer wanted them. I did the same thing a few Christmases ago when I fell on rather hard financial times. Though it's worth it to make loved ones smile.

I used to as a kid, but there is just too much releasing to justify it. Saying that though, I am playing through Stadium on NSO which has been played to death in the past.

It's nice to have multiple interests, like a home surrounded with the things you have discovered and enjoyed throughout your life. Do your board games get played or are they for collection purposes only? I imagine it would be nice to have IRL friends to gather round and have a few games and some cold beverages with, though keeping them all nice and pristine sounds equally enticing.

Yeah I feel you, there is no way I could not rotate things over the years, same as you. The things you like shift, evolve, and change as well, it's ever adapting. Kinda reminds me of the game unpacking in a way, I'm sure you've heard of it (I think it's overrated myself but the idea is nice)

Anyway Imma shut up now as to not hog this thread.

Re: Community: 22 Switch Games We Missed, As Recommended By You

Sillyeyepatch

@Diogmites Had to write my reply in two parts cause it was too long.
I see you edited your comment so a lot of what I said doesn't make sense now xD I talk too much.

Haha funny enough with everything else in life I'm exactly like you, weird that. I think ironically playing the game corner in Pokemon RBY taught me not to gamble.

Yeah it's real rough. If you've been through it I hope you came out the other end well. Way I see it there are a lot of worse things I could be addicted to.

Yeah we are all forced into it to some extent sadly.

This has gone so far off topic but hey-ho...
I'll happily chat for hours on here but if anyone asks for my socials I flee straight away. I like to call this sort of interaction 'turn based' in which you can take your time to think and type out replies, heck if you aren't feeling social you can take days/weeks to reply and no-one bats an eye they'll just assume you have life going on, but as soon as someone wants to be a friend and take it to instant messaging I brick it, it's too much pressure for me. At that point a friendship has to be nurtured and maintained, you are forced into replying so as to not come off as rude or aloof and hurt their feelings. It's no longer as natural and free-flowing as it was. Maybe you started talking about games, and then it just devolves into the monotony of everyday life, and is no longer thought-provoking or interesting. Oh and I'm usually busy playing the games I buy to engage with people, heck I'm playing now, but I'm grinding FF2 so I can be distracted. But hey I got my partner, and these comment sections, that's all I need. He's an MMORG fan so he gets it, actually, he is quite pleased with himself as he gets to be online a lot more than his other friends do, since I will just chill and play my games and he'll play his and then we commune at night to play co-op together, it's perfect. And as for Nlife, it's my happy place I can chat games all I like :3

Too much life wasted being house-proud for sure.

Yeah there is, leave it to everyone else, we aren't gonna die out as a race anytime soon. I know they are just so eww you don't know where they have been and so many parents let them run amook, it makes me feel gross and if they run at you it actually makes me quite anxious cause I don't know how to react. My sister works with children and I'm like why would you choose to be around them you freak. No offense to anyone here with kids though, you do you, if raising kids wasn't rewarding and fulfilling in a way I'll never be able to understand no-one would have more than one. I'd make an awful parent too, I wish more people would realise that before they pop them out like toy machines xD

Re: Community: 22 Switch Games We Missed, As Recommended By You

Sillyeyepatch

@Diogmites
Yeah if you've had a lot of awful luck it does tend to knock your confidence a bit, I understand that completely, sometimes I get a string of bad luck with what I choose to play and it feels awful, but it's soon forgotten next time something hits the spot.

Yeah I'm glad you aren't about to copy me xD I am not advocating for that behavior trust me. This hobby/addiction comes at the expense of a social life, eating out or any real world experiences like holidays for example.

Yeah I guess it's just a simple odds game, the more you collect the more likely you are to find gems.

Welp I'm out then cause I'm not that tidy, I keep up with the housework don't get me wrong but I'm one of those people that think homes should be lived in not displayed.

That's what being an adult is about is it not? pay your rent, don't starve and whatever is left (if you are lucky to have any left this day and age that is) and have some fun? I hear people do this whole 'raising a child' thing, but I'm not about that life, I hear it is detrimental to money and free time so I opted out of that.

Oh I used to be like that too before the Switch at least, I still have some things leftover from that time, mostly Pokemon stuff but if I want something new like a figure for example, I sell something I already own to get it and the cycle continues constantly rotating, I've managed to accumulate a little savings pot with stuff I've sold when I've gotten bored of it or what do the cool kids say; 'it doesn't spark joy' anymore. It saves me money, and my flat is small so it helps with the space issue and the aforementioned game problem. I always trade in physical games for new ones too that helps, I never replay things, I know that may be sacrilegious to some.

What do you collect if you don't mind me asking?

Intense is right xD
Honestly I think there is some undiagnosed neurodivergence here but I know I'm far from the only one who does this.

Oh and no problem, I replied far too seriously to your comment that was meant in jest, I do that sometimes, don't mind me!

Re: Community: 22 Switch Games We Missed, As Recommended By You

Sillyeyepatch

@Diogmites
First of all I love your comment so much.

And second your question was prolly rhetorical but oh well xD

I can't speak for everyone else but I collect Eshop titles or should I say 'icons' like they are trading cards. I know I will die before I play everything but you gotta spend your money on something am I right? and games are the best value for money you can get.

I literally check the Eshop twice daily and if it looks cool and I can afford it I buy it, if it's too pricey I stick it on the wishlist and get it when it goes on sale. Have I found some stinkers? Oh absolutely but then I just uninstall and move on, it's almost always worth the risk when you manage to find something amazing, I've broadened my tastes so much just doing this. It's almost as fun researching and buying the games (and getting hyped about getting to them) as it is playing them for me.

It's worth noting I'm a minimalist, is that the right word? I don't buy anything I don't need in other aspects of my life, I wear my clothes till they are falling apart before buying new ones and always pick the cheaper options in groceries where possible, so I have lots of leighway to have a little fun with my gaming budget. When there are AAA's out and the Eshop is full of new games every day it becomes stressful in a way and it's a little bit obsessive, so when a Nintendo direct is empty that's actually a relief for me sometimes. Though I actually play more indies than anything else anyway.

Every month a new list with upcoming titles on it,, but there's rarely a day when something you didn't know about stealth drops on there, it's a game in of itself xD

Oh and I find a quick steam search/ youtube search is helpful for filtering out the actual junk titles.

Re: Community: 22 Switch Games We Missed, As Recommended By You

Sillyeyepatch

The coming of this article scared me because I usually end up picking something up that managed to fall through the cracks, not this time though (phew) but that's just down to me having them already with games like Siralim, Wildfrost and Monster Train or the genres just not being my thing.

Really appreciate these though, maybe next time the Eshop will get some more money out of me because of it.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 22nd)

@Teksetter
Thing is you never want to find out what to do and ruin the game for yourself and some requirements are so specific, but not only that our never-ending backlogs don't exactly encourage repeat playthroughs xD

Glad you enjoying it a second time around though it must be fun :3
Its another one of those I really need to get around to quick-time, but you know how it is I'm sure.

Your other tag... I shouldn't rub it in that I'm having a ton of fun with the Pixel Remasters then
It will be worth the wait to have that physical though, they did us dirty there

Re: Advance Wars Switch Dev Thanks Fans For Positive Reception, Calls Release A "Life Dream"

Sillyeyepatch

@JohnnyMind
For sure, I'll let you know! ^-^
I'm still hyped about getting to it, but I already have all the other FF games on the Switch which I accumulated over time with all the SE sales and I was biding my time to start from the beginning so this is long overdue for me xD The plan is to beat 1 and 2 and have a break and then play AW but we will see.
Well it 'keeps me quiet' as he puts it

Edit: Wish I could play a bajillion games like you and @nhSnork but that doesn't work for me I can have a rhythm game on the side, and a co-op game that I play for like an hour at night and I'm slowly making my way through round 2 on Pokemon stadium NSO, but any more than that I couldn't manage, you guys must never burn out though, bet it's nice!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 22nd)

Sillyeyepatch

I'm playing Final Fantasy pixel remaster starting from the 1st game and honestly, I love it! I didn't think I'd be able to get them this month but my partner surprised me and stealth downloaded them when I was asleep, (he's a keeper)

It's my first time with these games and I thought the early ones would kinda suck but here is something really cosy about it's simplicity. I really was in the camp of the price was too expensive but I have to say, I have changed my mind. There is so much care on show here, it doesn't feel like an old game at all in it's presentation and 6 games for £65 it really is a good deal, but I still cant argue £50 would have been more palatable for some. I might even end up playing them back to back at this rate.

On the side I'll probably play Hello Kitty happiness parade and some young souls with my (bestest) other half.

Re: Veteran Pokémon Anime Voice Actor To Retire

Sillyeyepatch

I hope he makes a speedy recovery, why should someone who has brought so much joy to others have to suffer? The world is cruel.

Pokemon wouldn't have been the same without him. James will always be my favourite of the trio. he's always had this adorable campiness which is really hard to get right.
