Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 15th)

I'm playing Master Detective Archives : Raincode. I know this game is quite polarising, but I really love it! I so nearly didn't buy it because adventure games are not my jam but I'm so glad I did! It's not even that amazing of a story but there's something about it that tickles my brain in all the right ways. I also think it's the most beautiful game I've seen on Switch in a while.

I'm also continuing Moemon Emerald there are so many Pokémon added and they are all new to me thanks to this hack (all pokes are cute girls) so with my weird playstyle I'm so overwhelmed (In a good way) For context even Tentacool looks cute in this game.

Said playstyle involves me catching them all and evolving constantly to see what they all look like as I try and build a team, but my team ends up changing throughout the whole game xD I spend hours in one spot. Rusturf Tunnel, for example, doesn't just have Whismer, it has almost all the baby Pokemon available (and Porygon for some reason, it's so cool!)

@Ooyah
You reminded me I had Mr. Sun's Hatbox backlogged, I should get on that soon if it's that good!

Re: Review: Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist Of Salburg - A Concise And Cosy JRPG That Fans Will Love

Sillyeyepatch

Was waiting for this review, so thankyou!

I do want it, but that length is putting me off and it sounds like you are forced just to burn through the game with everything taking time, I think it should have been an all-or-nothing with the time mechanics despite it being a chill experience. I want to savour these games, and it doesn't really seem possible here.

Edit Also, I'm not an old school Atelier fan, I jumped on with Ryza but the alchemy is half the fun, so it being simplified kinda sucks as well.

(I do like short games but I like my JRPG's meaty)
I'll 100% grab it on sale though.

@aaronsullivan
Mad respect to you there, I wouldn't dream of doing it myself xD
I have the dexterity of an 80 year old

I'm at the age where grey hairs have started appearing and just trying to pluck them out is hard enough let alone do the back, oh that would end so badly...

But yeah must be a great money saver to do it yourself, even though the procrastination is real regardless. >.<

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 8th)

Sillyeyepatch

I will be playing FF4 pixel remaster after I'm done with my haircut appointment, (anyone else hate doing it and put it off for way too long?)

I've also bought a DS and started collecting physical Pokémon GBA rom hacks so I'll be playing some Moemon FireRed where all the pokemon are gijinkas and it's so freaking cute. It's not lewd, just cute as heck!

I also have Raincode coming in the post today after Shinigami sold me on it (not really one for adventure games normally) so it will be hard not to play that. There's something so good about getting a physical game in the post, it never gets old and I think physical media will never die.

@AlanaHagues
Oh no that combo is dangerous! xD
Oh thanks that great! I didn't think the game was that good actually (and I say that as someone who loves farm sims and JRPG's) But whoever the art director for the food is, needs a raise at least!

Re: Review: The Legend Of Heroes: Trails Into Reverie - A Refreshing Entry In The Kiseki Series

Sillyeyepatch

@Lyricana Ahh fair enough, I didn't know that, I guess I just wrongly assumed that people play Witcher for the gameplay, not the story but I was very clearly off the mark there.

Yeah I think I will then.
I really don't want to buy another console just for two games, I'm content with the selection on Switch, I just have a bee in my bonnet about really wanting to play the series, should probably just sell 3 and 4 and be done with it at this point. I know I sound annoyingly stubborn and it's completely a 'me issue' but I'm drowning in games just on Switch, if I open up more avenues with more game libraries that would not be good for me at all. xD

Re: Review: The Legend Of Heroes: Trails Into Reverie - A Refreshing Entry In The Kiseki Series

Sillyeyepatch

@Lyricana
Not really the same thing at all xD
I've not played the Witcher so I won't pretend to know if you need to play the other games, but judging by the fact I have it backlogged and I have never seen anywhere that suggests you should play the other two first, I assume it can be played completely standalone, even if you might miss some references here and there.

All I have ever heard as a new fan is that Trails is a series dripping with history and lore that you will enjoy so much more if you can play them in order. I bit the bullet and played Zero and Azure on Switch because I heard it was an ok place to start, but I know I missed out massively by not having the sky games available to play first.

But If I played 3 and 4 (which I do own by the way) I'm just going to be completely lost unless I read the text wall that is supposed to get you up to speed at the start of the game, it just isn't enjoyable and kinda defeats the point of the series, I did try to do that if it isn't obvious, and it just didn't work for me (I'm used to a lot of text playing a lot of VN's and story driven games)

Well I'm not one of those people, the Switch is my only console and I know there are others like me, I've always just had Nintendo consoles. I know there are some issues regarding the port of I and 2 and that's fair enough. Trails from Zero/Azure had a right to be on the system but 3/4 and Reverie? I'm not so sure unless they just want people to double-dip or purely for the on the go side of things.

The worst thing is though despite my comment, I have the damn thing (Reverie) pre-ordered in some stupid hope that in supporting the game 1 and 2 will somehow happen, because I've loved what I've played so far, but I'm so close to canceling it for Rain code.

Re: Talking Point: How Does Switch's Year 7 Compare To Previous Nintendo Consoles?

Sillyeyepatch

Not once have I ever thought the Switch didn't have enough games, there's too many to keep up with! and this year I've picked up more first party titles than any other year (I use it mostly as an indie/third party machine) but there have been some bangers this year, and we're only halfway through 2023!

I'm in two minds. On one hand I have 800+ digital games on my Switch, enough to last me a lifetime and more I'd bet. I want it to stay around forever. But on the other hand, devs/people who port to the system have constant trouble getting even non-taxing games to work on the thing and I think its a 50/50 problem, the power and the Switch being a pain to work with/optimise for, so I'd love some more power to alleviate half the problem, I am not an FPS snob or anything either. A smooth digital account transition would be everything to me.

@JackieCMarlow
Yeah I felt like I trusted them as well even if they were sponsored. Ahh well, I won't be doing that again.

@RobynMWest
Ahh that really sucks. I know how it feels to be bitten by games like this trust me. Best advice I can give is try and forget about the game for now (since we have like no consumer rights on the Eshop whatsoever) yet don't give up hope at the same time because a patch is always possible. I benched an unplayable game a couple months ago and two days ago it got a patch that fixed it. The Switch takes way longer to get updates than other platforms. There's still no excuse to release games like this though.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 1st)

Sillyeyepatch

@FishyS
So much better! there was an update a couple of days ago (1.4.0) It was unplayable before, it would crash in every battle and had the worst performance I have ever seen and I'm no performance snob,, I have no idea how it scored so highly! But I haven't had a crash since, and all the issues are gone bar a little lag when entering buildings which for me is a non-issue, especially compared to what it was.

Re: Poll: What's Your Game Of The Year Of 2023 So Far?

Sillyeyepatch

Eh I'm gonna be boring and say TOTK funny enough I didn't like the game at first, but some members on this site helped me look at it differently and I've loved it ever since, its my constant inbetween game-game so I will never finish it, and that's fine by me!

Problem is I play that much that it's just so hard to remember what I've actually played until I see the end of year review unless something has really blown me away. Funny enough I have played(and more shamefully, backlogged) More Nintendo games than I usually do this year, My Switch is normally a third party/indie machine.

I think I've played and enjoyed more than Oliie at least xD
Hey don't go with the grain, cool kids club unite!

But with my backlog the way it is, I might have a GOTY in that pile and not get to it till like 5 years time at this rate so I don't know.

Alana really has me thinking about Octopath 2 now. I didn't like the first one, and funny enough I can't remember why and I've had FOMO about 2 ever since, and I've resisted every single urge not to buy the sequel like an idiot, and now you might have encouraged me to do just that with your oh so specific wording, so thanks!

Re: Review: Everdream Valley – A Cute Yet Clunky Farm Sim That Tries To Till Differently

Sillyeyepatch

Aww this is a bit disappointing seeing as I already picked it up. A lot of youtubers with 'ahem' sponsored content were saying this was rather good, and I believed them.

Hopefully some issues will be ironed out before I actually get around to playing it, but it sounds more of a core gameplay thing than one that can be patched up over time. Big shame as this looked really promising too, hopefully there are some good times to be squeezed out of it, the crafting did look fun before I knew how clunk it was.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 1st)

Sillyeyepatch

This weekend I'm playing Cassette Beasts which finally got a performance patch 2 months later.

I have mixed feelings about Story of Seasons A Wonderful Life and was all set to sell my SE copy, uploaded it and everything and then for some reason I just couldn't do it and took the listing down, so I guess my gut is telling me that I will probably play that again over the weekend despite my better judgment.

People usually talk about odd things on here as well so here's mine. I've actually ordered a DS lite (I sold all my old Nintendo hardware before, big sad) and of all the things I've ordered to play on it, I found some physical GBA rom hacks of Pokemon Moemon Emerald and Moekko monsters. Yes they games are exactly what you think they are... rom hacks of fire red and emerald where the Pokemon are cute girls instead because I am a person of culture xD I just wanted something to play when the Switch seems too overwhelming with choice when deciding what to play do you know what I mean? I think Switchup's channel calls this sort of thing a loading game. I wanted something familiar and cozy for when I'm in a grump without replaying old games. I'm not gonna lie I think I might have started a rabbit hole of collecting fakey-mon games, it has always fascinated me ever since seeing a fakey-mon game at a market when I was a kid I have no idea why I didn't think of it sooner, also picked up Chaos Black an an impulse buy from the same seller too, I think I'll be knocking at his proverbial door for more again again sooner rather than later.

Re: Action RPG CryMachina Looks Stunning, And It's Launching This October

Sillyeyepatch

@ArcticEcho
I personally think it was really good. I play a lot of games, so many of them get left out in my memories, but this one I remember fondly, but then I do often like quite niche titles so bare that in mind and shop around for reviews.

I think most people's problems with it was that it could be repetitive in the combat department, especially since there are multiple endings (thought that was handled really well in my book without spoiling anything) I never go for multiple routes normally, and I got the true end in this and it was worth it.

I feel you 100% on that, I can be super picky too, they are surprisingly hard to get right, I end up dropping more than I do sticking with because of that, but like you they are like my 2nd fave genre somehow.

Re: Review: Cassette Beasts - An Inventive Monster Battler That's Far More Zelda Than Pokémon

Sillyeyepatch

@JohnnyMind
Nice to know I wasn't going crazy just yet xD

Shame it took two months, but better late than never, and for someone like you who has a large backlog and hasn't got to it yet, it should be like there was nothing wrong at all hopefully, backlog perks!

I also remember I said I'd let you know how I found Advance Wars as well in terms of difficulty and I still haven't unwrapped the thing, so I know how it is, what a time to be alive! xD

Re: Review: Cassette Beasts - An Inventive Monster Battler That's Far More Zelda Than Pokémon

Sillyeyepatch

@JohnnyMind
Did I say on another thread that I would let you know when Cassette Beasts had been fixed (I think I did) unless it was someone else... but I'm posting here incase it helps someone anyway.

They added a free update today 1.4.0 and it has drastically improved performance (as well as added extra content). I haven't played long enough to know if the crashes are still a thing, since I'm deep into SOS a wonderful life and don't wanna put it down for long, but the difference really does seem like night and day, I really tried to get it to stutter and it didn't.

Re: Review: Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective - A DS All-Timer Returns In Stunning Form

Sillyeyepatch

It was on my wishlist out of morbid curiosity, but there's nothing written here that would suit me and the kind of games I like, maybe I will try the demo, but I'm leaning more towards pass. It looks like a game big on story and I appreciate and understand the vagueness in that regard, but at the same time I haven't got a clue about what this game is about, or what kind of tone it has besides the (rather charming sounding) animation.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 24th)

Sillyeyepatch

@FishyS
Oh I see, I don't have that much experience so I didn't realize that, it really baffled me.
Ok you twisted my arm, spamming buttons I can just about do, I'll give it another shot just at the story then. I really wanted that to be the game I finally put the time in and gut gud at, but the tutorial scared me away and back to Hyrule again in a flash, but then I have had a rotten week gaming wise, couldn't seem to get into anything waiting for my personal predicted GOTY to release so that may have skewed my rash drop of the game.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 24th)

Sillyeyepatch

@FishyS
Honestly, I didn't get that far before I got put off of it and sadly it's destined for the trade -in pile. That tutorial was not beginner friendly at all, why describe the attacks as ABC ect? My brain couldn't compute.

I love pones, and it's gorgeous but I just gotta accept I just don't like the genre, some genres just aren't for and you can't change that, we're just all different.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 24th)

Waffle incoming:
I've been in a bit of a rut this last week because I'm waiting for A Wonderful Life remake, so I didn't want to start anything big. So I've been playing games on my massive backlog, but I've just made some really bad picks with what to play and they've all been kinda eh (that's what happens when you buy things willy nilly on sale though I guess)

First world problem but because I don't have any other hobbies it gets me down a bit when I'm not engaged when playing something, and makes me lose a bit of faith thinking I just don't like games anymore, which is just plain untrue, but when I'm in the moment, it just feels that way. What makes it worse is I picked up Everdream Valley and Pretty Princess Magical Garden Island (both farm sims) and they would get me out of this rut so fast but I can't play them because AWL is my most anticipated game this year, and I can't play farm sims back to back even if I could somehow stop time and finish one before AWL releases.

Anyyywaaayyy... I've loaded up Smashing the battle and I don't hate it. It has a very good...ahem, plot and it's just mindless smashing which seems fun so far.

Edit: Okay this game whooped my butt, and while I'm not great at these sorts of games, I'm no stranger either so... Another one bites the dust I guess.
Now I will be trying out Them's fightin herds I'm bad at fighting games but I love anything smol hors, what could possibly go wrong right? right?

Ughh Tuesday can't come soon enough!
