Increasing your MTU will introduce lag to your games. Only do this if you want higher throughput (download games faster) and don't care about online.
Another important point is the USB port in the back of the dock is the only USB3 one, and as such is the only one taking advantage of gigabit ethernet adapters. (which by the way, get those not the megabit ones) Use the connection speed test to see a rather significant difference between these ports.
Z fighting or stitching is a universal problem on the Nintendo Switch and is present in all of its 3D games. Problem comes from the Tegra doing some sloppy rounding in its vertex calculations to save on power and cycles.
If you wanna see it for yourself check out scientist Robbie's backpack in Breath of the Wild. Otherwise very notable in games like Doom and Skyrim.
@Ryan_Again Given the levels are user generated, somebody is bound to make the kind of levels you like eventually. The more time passes the more likely that becomes.
@SlyPlayr09 Well, less customization options. But more cosmetics. Personally I don't think the actual racing is anywhere even close to MK8... But like Diddy Kong Adventure Racing and Crash Team Racing (PS1) before it, CTR:NF is in a different league entirely for single player content.
@JaxonH How about a concession then. "Mellow mode." Only playable as Baby, gives access to a gradual rewind button akin to Pushmo, Braid, MegaDrive Classics, Toki Tori, Catrap etc.
Also realistic to implement given both games already supports this for replay purposes.
@brunojenso 3D World is pretty universally lauded really. Land is somewhat underrated as the proper game doesn't start until you beat the final boss, that kinda pacing put some people off.
Where Odyssey goes it has a billion power moons to the point you stumble over them everywhere, which definitely dilutes the actual platforming. Try sometime though doing only the moons ya gotta work for, minimal count for progression - the sum total platforming is pretty decent it turns out.
As for Lucky's Tale I'll def give it a try, being a kind of game I want. X1 crowd completely sleeping on it is something of a red flag though.
PS: After Panzer Dragoon I wouldn't mind some Star Fox and Sin&Punishment
@Nintendo_Thumb Oh there were a whole slew of actual polygonal 3D games on the machine, including V-Rally and a GTA clone (look up Payback =]).
Super Monkey Ball Jr, I loved that game (spent so many hours bowling) but it doesn't stand up to Banana Blitz. That just comes with the handheld territory there.
@JaxonH The new generation of gamers aren't bad at games, that's an absolute meme, and the SMB1/2 difficulty early on is moderate at worst. So all in all I see no issue with introducing them to the originals.
@Agramonte A, I misunderstood what you meant then. Yeah it's a pure transfer where it's gone from the old system and moved to the new. Only backup system remains locked behind NSO.
3DS, Wii and WiiU are still the only Nintendo systems you can back up locally, (and even then only goes for certain games)
PS4 solution would be very welcome
@Lowhangers Oh I see where you're coming from regarding BOTW, but that game's got five real dungeons in it: The four beasts and Hyrule Castle. Making its dungeon count on par with (the admittedly also content light) Wind Waker.
Shantae HGH still described as "could be a bit longer" after having gotten more than eight times its initial content? Guessing they're using some old quotes then.
@aznable Oh there's no doubt the good people at Namco can handle resources more efficiently, but that's missing the point. Using Ultimate as a benchmark for acceptable waiting time before getting into a platform fight.
@JoyconGang Fortnite popularity is nosediving. It's pretty apparent that bringing in the big guns on Switch port performance at this point in time isn't going to pay off.
Eh, I don't feel like we missed out not having monetised Nintendo content to watch. Conversely it was a neat hobbyist filter, I'll have to put more work into searches now.
@purpleibby Wait you're the one who bought that? You guys are lucky people man. Also I do know boph™ those soundtracks are great but hearing them again is still powerful <3
@Cosats The Pro Controllers use the exact same parts for rumble, but these controllers are also a great deal heavier and so they're not as affected by the vibrations as the JoyCon.
The Switch does know what you're using to play, and the rumble signals are essentially soundwaves, as this captain developerious pointed out, so they could probably be amplified to account for it.
You say modest smartphone hardware, but to be fair a considerable amount of smartphones are way ahead of the Switch in terms of processing power. Not in terms of graphical technology etc, of course, but there's a reason they cost more than a Switch.
@SetupDisk I bet a lot of people would appreciate a NintendoLife video showing off a backup restore. Seeing it in action is much more enlightening than a wall of text.
Come to think of it, Nintendo should seriously consider keeping multiple backups, letting us select how far back to restore from. You know, how dropbox, onedrive and every other cloud backup service functions.
If anyone here runs into this in the future, what you want to do is press home, + (start), go to save data cloud backup, select your user (the one playing smash right now), and then hit X to cancel the pending backup of your corrupted save.
Turn off the automatic backup just in case, before you close smash.
Go back into the same menu and download the old healthy save data.
(this assuming you have an existing backup in the cloud and that you had it previously set to automatically back up, making it a recent one)
@DarthFoxMcCloud Your husband is part of a whole generation of westerners who grew up on Gundam, now at an age where they are very capable of spending on their fandom - an attractive (right? lookat'im!) target audience worth betting on.
If they don't end up bringing the game over in spite of this, there is a good chance the south-east asian copies will have english text included either way. Region-free consoles banzai!
"There’s so little nuance on display here it’s like the developers behind Fight of Gods had heard of fighting games but had never actually played one as a frame of reference."
Those words would be a very reasonable reaction to playing the first Mortal Kombat, and look at it now! I mean MK gameplay still is worst-in-genre a valley away from the rest, but look at its downright amazing production values. Point being even a start like Fight of Gods could potentially go somewhere in the end.
(As for the outraged people, where were you when SMITE released? ...oh nevermind, people already discussed this)
@WaveBoy I mean, fair deuce. If you have the Wii game you're set, Vita would've been something of a reduced experience.
As for XrdRev#s I haven't lost hope yet given DBFighters was ported with relative ease. My only worry lies in how base PS4 struggles with frequent frame drops out of gameplay. Edit: in Xrds
@WaveBoy Uh that "old Vita game" besides not originating there is by far the best guilty gear, not to mention one of the best fighting games ever made. I get it may have limited appeal to the casual crowd but for fans of fighting games this is the optimal timeline.
@Axlroselm I mean 3D is cheaper by leagues and bounds. If they did handdrawn they wouldn't have been able to produce results nearly as good, and the animation count would've been massively cut down.
@Fandabidozi It's smaller in dimension than they used to be for Nintendo, closer in size to the 360 one, but otherwise good.
Worth mentioning the older models are great for rolling (say fireballs in street fighter) but because of that much less accurate for 4-way menu choices (prone to read a diagonal if you're sloppy).
@SethNintendo as people already told you that was always there, but televisions would have that part of the image outside of the visible part of the screen. Same with games where you see stuff on the far right pop up on the far left, originally hidden by overscan.
I'm kinda surprised nobody to date has taken this into account. Emulator, mini console or otherwise.
@eSocrates Well, that's about as far fetched as what I wrote, to draw that from his words (he's being asked about a future execution in the form of a revised model - and so is naming this one 'current' for contrast)
But there's no doubt there is a great market for a Switch with the form factor of a PSVita. 2DS set some precedent for it as well, they know that approach can be widely successful. And so, you know, there should be no doubt it's something they're considering.
He told us to look at what they have been doing, and what other platform makers have been doing, see how it matches by what they're doing now, well.
If it's going by GB to GBC, DS to DSi, 3DS to n3DS

Reggie pretty much confirmed they intend to eventually release a significantly more powerful model.
Obviously that's not something you push while current model is enjoying great sales pushed by content.
Oh, and Pokkén Tournament is made by Namco, the same people who made Ultimate. So I'm fairly sure we'll see ut patched in down the line, maybe once all fighters are released.
@Andrew5678 The problem started popping up as soon as console save systems became locked down to accounts or consoles. Back in the day you just copied a complete save file to all the memory cards you needed for a tournament.
Super Street Fighter IV started a trend in fighters where you simply start with the entire cast, a move that took a massive chunk of single player longevity out of the genre.
Today games like Pokkén Tournament and ARMS have these bespoke tournament modes that perfectly solve the issue without any sacrifices to anything, and is what people want here: You do something esoteric, like a button combination on the title screen, and now all content is temporarily open to you for use on your tournament setup without affecting the console's save at all.
In other news I wish Nintendo took the unlock chain further. I'm bombarded with challenges for any action in Ultimate, even leaving a menu, and will no doubt deplete the unlocks in a matter of days. Games like Tekken 2 or even Brawl could provide something new and unexpected months in
@Rayquaza2510 Looking at your comments here you seem to think that lag is the same thing as poor frame rate or stuttering in the game. They did briefly mention this, but when this review mentions lag, it is in the sense of input lag. A delay between pressing buttons or moving the stick on your controller, and something happening onscreen.
In a racing game that'll make you start turning late, and it'll make you keep turning even after you wanted to straighten up.
@retro_player_22 Looking at that I'm pretty sure the "ears" are an afterthought. The inside lines and darker fill added in post don't hide the general shape of the horns he always have.
