Re: Guide: How To Improve Your Switch's Internet Connection

Rubbercookie

Increasing your MTU will introduce lag to your games. Only do this if you want higher throughput (download games faster) and don't care about online.

Another important point is the USB port in the back of the dock is the only USB3 one, and as such is the only one taking advantage of gigabit ethernet adapters. (which by the way, get those not the megabit ones)
Use the connection speed test to see a rather significant difference between these ports.

Re: Video: The Tiny Graphical Glitch We Can't Unsee In Super Mario Maker 2

Z fighting or stitching is a universal problem on the Nintendo Switch and is present in all of its 3D games. Problem comes from the Tegra doing some sloppy rounding in its vertex calculations to save on power and cycles.

If you wanna see it for yourself check out scientist Robbie's backpack in Breath of the Wild.
Otherwise very notable in games like Doom and Skyrim.

Re: Banjo-Kazooie Composer Grant Kirkhope Doesn't Know If There's A Market For A New Game

Rubbercookie

@brunojenso 3D World is pretty universally lauded really. Land is somewhat underrated as the proper game doesn't start until you beat the final boss, that kinda pacing put some people off.

Where Odyssey goes it has a billion power moons to the point you stumble over them everywhere, which definitely dilutes the actual platforming. Try sometime though doing only the moons ya gotta work for, minimal count for progression - the sum total platforming is pretty decent it turns out.

As for Lucky's Tale I'll def give it a try, being a kind of game I want. X1 crowd completely sleeping on it is something of a red flag though.

PS: After Panzer Dragoon I wouldn't mind some Star Fox and Sin&Punishment

Re: Indie Developer Says Switch's HD Rumble Is "So Easy To Use", Here's How It Works

Rubbercookie

@Cosats The Pro Controllers use the exact same parts for rumble, but these controllers are also a great deal heavier and so they're not as affected by the vibrations as the JoyCon.

The Switch does know what you're using to play, and the rumble signals are essentially soundwaves, as this captain developerious pointed out, so they could probably be amplified to account for it.

Re: Some Players Are Experiencing Corrupted Save Files After Using Piranha Plant In All-Star Mode

Rubbercookie

If anyone here runs into this in the future, what you want to do is press home, + (start), go to save data cloud backup, select your user (the one playing smash right now), and then hit X to cancel the pending backup of your corrupted save.

Turn off the automatic backup just in case, before you close smash.
Go back into the same menu and download the old healthy save data.

(this assuming you have an existing backup in the cloud and that you had it previously set to automatically back up, making it a recent one)

Re: Bandai Namco's SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays Confirmed For Switch

Rubbercookie

@DarthFoxMcCloud Your husband is part of a whole generation of westerners who grew up on Gundam, now at an age where they are very capable of spending on their fandom - an attractive (right? lookat'im!) target audience worth betting on.

If they don't end up bringing the game over in spite of this, there is a good chance the south-east asian copies will have english text included either way.
Region-free consoles banzai!

Re: Review: Fight Of Gods - A Comically Bad Crossover That Nobody Asked For

Rubbercookie

"There’s so little nuance on display here it’s like the developers behind Fight of Gods had heard of fighting games but had never actually played one as a frame of reference."

Those words would be a very reasonable reaction to playing the first Mortal Kombat, and look at it now!
I mean MK gameplay still is worst-in-genre a valley away from the rest, but look at its downright amazing production values.
Point being even a start like Fight of Gods could potentially go somewhere in the end.

(As for the outraged people, where were you when SMITE released?
...oh nevermind, people already discussed this)

Re: Nintendo Focused On The Current Switch, So Don't Expect A Revision Anytime Soon

Rubbercookie

@eSocrates Well, that's about as far fetched as what I wrote, to draw that from his words
(he's being asked about a future execution in the form of a revised model - and so is naming this one 'current' for contrast)

But there's no doubt there is a great market for a Switch with the form factor of a PSVita.
2DS set some precedent for it as well, they know that approach can be widely successful.
And so, you know, there should be no doubt it's something they're considering.

Re: Nintendo Focused On The Current Switch, So Don't Expect A Revision Anytime Soon

He told us to look at what they have been doing, and what other platform makers have been doing, see how it matches by what they're doing now, well.
If it's going by GB to GBC, DS to DSi, 3DS to n3DS
or with the competitors moving to PS4Pro and X1X
Reggie pretty much confirmed they intend to eventually release a significantly more powerful model.
Obviously that's not something you push while current model is enjoying great sales pushed by content.

Re: Locked Character Roster In Smash Bros. Ultimate Raises Concerns About Tournament Play

Rubbercookie

@Andrew5678 The problem started popping up as soon as console save systems became locked down to accounts or consoles.
Back in the day you just copied a complete save file to all the memory cards you needed for a tournament.

Super Street Fighter IV started a trend in fighters where you simply start with the entire cast, a move that took a massive chunk of single player longevity out of the genre.

Today games like Pokkén Tournament and ARMS have these bespoke tournament modes that perfectly solve the issue without any sacrifices to anything, and is what people want here:
You do something esoteric, like a button combination on the title screen, and now all content is temporarily open to you for use on your tournament setup without affecting the console's save at all.

In other news I wish Nintendo took the unlock chain further. I'm bombarded with challenges for any action in Ultimate, even leaving a menu, and will no doubt deplete the unlocks in a matter of days.
Games like Tekken 2 or even Brawl could provide something new and unexpected months in

Re: Review: Gear.Club Unlimited 2 - Sluggish Controls Force This Real-World Racer Off The Track

Rubbercookie

@Rayquaza2510 Looking at your comments here you seem to think that lag is the same thing as poor frame rate or stuttering in the game. They did briefly mention this, but
when this review mentions lag, it is in the sense of input lag.
A delay between pressing buttons or moving the stick on your controller, and something happening onscreen.

In a racing game that'll make you start turning late, and it'll make you keep turning even after you wanted to straighten up.
