While there are a number of glitches that have already been discovered in Super Mario Maker 2, our lovely senior video producer Alex Olney has seemingly stumbled across another one. This is a very subtle graphical glitch that won't impact your gameplay experience.
If you're using the New Super Mario Bros. U ground theme, look into the background of the level and you'll see a strange flickering. It seems to be a universal issue within the game. Once you see it, you won't be able to unsee it!
Have you noticed this glitch in your own copy of Super Mario Maker 2 already? What are your thoughts about it? Tell us below.

YOU'VE CURSED ME.
WHAT A HORRIBLE NIGHT TO HAVE A CURSE.
I cannot tell what he is talking about and can't see the glitch. I'm watching this on my phone so that could be the issue.
DOWNGRADE FROM THE E3 BUILD
0/10 it is bad gam
***COMPLETELY IRONIC***
At this rate there should just be an article listing all the glitches within the game and have it updated every other day.
Things like this are actually unnerving once you notice them.
I didn’t even notice the glitch until now. Something well hidden, yet so hard to see. And now I have a headache from staring at my screen for too long just to see the glitch.
EVERYBODY STOP YELLING, CAPS LOCK GIVES ME A HEADACHE.
This could account for migraines and other vision based issues and should probably recalled. Everybody send back your Mario maker 2.
Virtual Boy mode is on its way! Those are the oscillating mirror effects just left in the wrong part of the game!
Hmm,
@AlexOlney This makes me think that there might be something wrong with their anti-aliasing solution.
TXAA is a pretty cheap way to smooth out an image (ie. nudge the camera a fraction of a pixel each frame, and then blend the last few frames together). Usually, the movement of the camera is so minimal, the refresh rate is high enough, and enough samples are used, that the jittering is almost impercievable.
Perhaps your new 4K TV is too aggressively sharpening-up/de-ghosting the image? Either that, or Nintendo needs to have a talk with someone on the rendering team.
@Azikira THE ANGRY SUN HAS VANQUISHED THE HORRIBLE MARIO.
How many clicks can a clickbait bait if a clickbait can click baits?
Too much epilepsy, 0/10
It's not a glitch. It's a feature 😜
Does anyone happen to know if this happens in the original New Super Mario Bros. U or the Deluxe version as well, or if it's just in Super Mario Maker 2?
Interesting. I'll have to investigate! I wish more games had glitches like this! I mean, this is the kind of graphical thing I can deal with : )
thanks alex, I hate it
Well... Goodeyem8!
I looked up close on my TV and couldn't see the jittering. I can see it in the blown up video above, but not on my switch and my TV. I tried turning motion blur and dejudder on and off, also turned on and off LED clear motion and some other stuff. I never saw what Alex presents in this video. I wonder what is going on?! Good thing it is such a minor thing.
Don't use the ugly NSMBU style anyway, eh
Great, now I need to go and have my eyes checked because I absolutely don't see anything.
Talk about nitpicking!!!
LMAO. So this reviewer would like to give an other review score to lower that score bahahaha
Providing you are playing the game and not sitting there doing nothing you wont notice it.

@Kevember Well there are a few youtube channels out there that are constantly making new videos about different glitches in Mario Maker 2, like Icay, so I'd recommend checking those out if you are more interested in this kind of stuff. They have way more than Nintendo life has even talked about in their articles!
Well that’s two minutes of my life that I’m never getting back.
@Keitoded Thanks! I'll make sure to check it out.
@Kevember That would be great. The door not working glitch has been messing my time's up bad, and I wish more people were talking about it so maybe Nintendo would fix it. I'd assume the speedrunners must be especially bothered by it.
Z fighting or stitching is a universal problem on the Nintendo Switch and is present in all of its 3D games. Problem comes from the Tegra doing some sloppy rounding in its vertex calculations to save on power and cycles.
If you wanna see it for yourself check out scientist Robbie's backpack in Breath of the Wild.
Otherwise very notable in games like Doom and Skyrim.
This is why I'm buying the PC version so modders can fix it.
Dammit now I gotta go get a refund
