Epic Doesn't Plan To Improve The Frame Rate In The Switch Version Of Fortnite

Meh, understandable. Personally I have over 500 hours into Fortnite on the Switch and still have fun with it. The frame rarely drops at all unless there's 30+ players in a super close area which rarely happens anyway.

Framerate isn't a game breaking issue. Atleast they fixed the texture loading issues that happened a few seasons back. It was garbage how you have to wait a full minute before touching any objects or else you get sucked into the ground xD

The only problem I have with the frame rate is that your gun's rate of fire is tied to the fps. So every person not on Switch can fire faster than you can, putting us at a disadvantage. I still get wins though.

Pfff. That just means we're better. While the softies get 60fps, we Switch players deal with the slower frame data and still win. Just imagine how crazy it would be if a Switch player outplayed Ninja live.

First game I've seriously considered deleting from the Switch. I dont think it's for me.

@Noonch Is that for real? That seems kinda weird, especially if there's crossplay happening. If someone with 60fps witnesses a 30FPS person firing at half speed wouldn't that complicate things a bit?

How about a stable 30 FPS? I haven’t played in months but last time I did I found it unplayable in docked mode, and reasonable in handheld but not stable.

I bet they will bend over backward to make it run better on your grandma's 4 year old iPad though!

I miss recording. That was the most crucial thing but it is what it is.

At the end of the day running 60 fps shouldnt be an issue on any system let alone a nintendo switch that has diablo 3 running 60 fps you got paladins running 60fps im tired of the laziness in developers coding... you make millions upon millions of dollars daily off cellphone fortnite xbox fortnite ps4 fortnite and the master race pc fortnite.... billions in revenue and you can't code in 60 fps on switch yet other games run 60fps with graphics that are a million times better than fortnite. All i hear are excuses

@FTPinkRabbit frame rate isn't tied to speed, it's about fluidity.

When it comes to FPS having the extra frames is a big deal when aiming in particular, you effectively miss the image inbetween the image.

Meh... deleted it ages ago. Stick with PC at home - can play something else on the go.

This just another example of playing the worst version of a game, just to justify it being on Switch.

I play it a lot and every now and then it still has the old issue of models not fully loading when you're already there. I'd rather have them fix that, because it runs fine framerate wise.

While I would love to see that, I think the difference between Switch @ 30fps and PC with ultra settings (more draw distance) and keyboard + mouse @ 144fps is big enough to make it virtually impossible for the Switch player to win. Unless the PC player sucks at the game of course

@JoyconGang Fortnite popularity is nosediving. It's pretty apparent that bringing in the big guns on Switch port performance at this point in time isn't going to pay off.

@JoyconGang agreed - Fortnight isn’t the most demanding game graphically - it’s even running on phones. There are much more impressive games running at 60hz running on Switch, so the only reason this can’t is due to the programmer’s lack of skill.

The current FPS is fine in solo but atrocious in anything else

@patbacknitro18 when did they fix the texture loading? I get fortnite64 almost every match. sometimes it even glitches out so you get stuck and can get fall damage or get blasted by someone.

it's not a graphically demanding game, I'd be happy with a stable 30 but very often you don't even get that. fps in team rumble is garbage

Garbage game. Wish it would shrivel away already.

They NEED to get this game running at a locked 30fps with proper frame pacing.

As it stands, this is one of the worst running games i’ve played on the Switch to the point the performance directly impacts gameplay.

It’s a decent game but Epic really need to do what they can to get a locked 30fps. Switch Fortnite fans at least deserve that much.

The whole “shooting slower” thing is a bug. It’s not outright half speed, or even noticeable to many players, but it’s still a distinct disadvantage that’s more than just less fluidity.

Imho the game is good as it is.

I'm curious about the point where something becomes a "belief". There is usually always a sprinkle of truth (however small it may be) under such beliefs. I'd say the reason Epic might not bother fixing this may be tied to the same reason why so many big publishers don't bother making or porting AAA productions over to the Switch (even old ones). We have to put ourselves in the shoes of business people, who have to rely on what the sales charts are telling them : What sells ont the Switch are Nintendo games, and smaller-indie (often bite-sized) productions often overpriced compared to other platform, overpriced (again) mobile ports, and the occasionnal ports of older games Switch owners gladly buy at full price again. And pretty much nothing else.

Granted, there are exceptions, but they are exactly that. Exceptions. What sells on the Switch right now may be what's preventing companies to work on bigger releases. The numbers they have just don't see a market/demand for these bigger releases.

And so it's possible the numbers Epic have for the Switch, compared to all other platforms out there, may not warrant any sort of dedicated effort on their part. How big of a % does the Switch represents in the whole Fortnite pie? It may be quite insignificant. Maybe not. But maybe it is.

I'm not sure I'd be enclined to talk about "lazy developpers" on this,
as others mentionned, because if Epic themselves don't want to spent time and resources on fixing this, it is not the development team's fault.

I'm pretty sure this is more a business decision than anything else. Again, driven solely by numbers.

Always funny to see all the fortnite haters on here. Game is fun, I don't play much cuz I have a lot of games currently backlogged and running g through them but it's a fun and good game.

Gotta love the crowd that's hating on it just cuz it's popular or just cuz they suck at it. By no means is it a bad game and to be good it takes quite a bit of skill.

These are probably the same people that hate on Apex Legends because it's a Battle Royale game but my goodness did Respawn make a marvel of a game with that. Too bad it's published by EA.

@Rubbercookie very true but for those still hooked that play everyday and for those that take it very serious the 60fps or even 50 fps would be very beneficial for them because lets face it if your on switch and play squads or duos you're being matched up with other on ps4 qnd xbox which imo if they're running off better fps and draw distance views are further than switchy then thats a upper hand competitively over switchy

@Heavyarms55 yea i feel like people see switch as a cash grab because lets face it most games that sell on ps4 xbox one and switchy, switch gets more sales like for instance hollowknight. That game sold better on seitch than xbox one and ps4 combined sales... i see it as these developers are lazy do they rather bring out an older 5 to 20 year old game slap some hd DX name next to it add a couple different things and full dlcs and recharge 63 usd ala skyrm.i love my switch but these developers need ro stop making up excuses about hardware limitations when theres other studios creating amazing games with good graphics and 60fps on switchy... i understand graphics textures and all that good stuff kinda takes a hit but the games still look great for something being played handheld anywhere u want across the globe i mean who wouldve ever thought you'd be able to play skyrm anywhere u wanted to

I always come to see the Fortnite hater comments but there are only a few here or there nowadays. Can't wait to try out season 8.

I played Fortnight on the PS4 and on the Switch in handheld mode and to be honest, 30 fps felt pretty good, especially when you take into consideration that it's a portable version of the game.

@Galenmereth Maybe they're so used to working at 60fps that they didn't bother fixing the issue at 30. But they've acknowledged it and are looking into an eventual fix. Switch is kind of the problem for Fortnite. There are phones now running the game at 60. But they're a responsive developer and I have confidence it will be fixed eventually. I wish they'd let us take a graphical hit for fps performance like Rocket League does.

@Heavyarms55 The thing is that 4 year old iPad could be more powerful than the Switch is. Apple's ARM processors are fantastic.

The A8X chip in the iPad you're talking about is probably in a similar power range as the Switch. But Epic also is able to take advantage of Apple's Metal APIs which may give it a boost over the Tegra X1 in the Switch.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Switch but Apple's processors have been good for a long time. Plus the X1 Processor was old when Nintendo launched the Switch. Hopefully Nvidea is working on an upgrade to the X1 that will allow a beefed up version of the Switch to compete with Apple's silicon.

I'd be more than happy if Nintendo announced tomorrow that they were releasing a set of adapters that would let you use joycons or dock your iPhone or iPad with a TV and play Switch games off of those devices. They'd probably all play great.

In fact I wouldn't be surprised if some day all of Nintendo's ARM games get released on iOS if their next console flopped. (Hope they don't mind you, I don't mind paying extra in order to have a console that Nintendo can make their own games on and feel in control of their destiny. But if things did go sour for them, they'd be a huge get for Apple.)

No it’s not, it has it’s highest concurrent player count and highest non-event concurrent player count in Feb (after Apex launched). Fortnite is still growing.

It’s not just the graphics that need to be taken into considerstion, it’s the resolution, the amount of players, draw distance, there are tons of things to take into consideration. If Epic could get it working at 60fps on the Switch, they would. They got it working at 60fps on the newest iPhones, which are substantially more powerful than the Switch, but not on older iPhones (which are still more powerful than the Switch). You can’t point to linear single player games that run at 60fps and then claim that if they can do it, fortnite should be able to. BotW is very similar graphically and it only runs at 30fps, and it’s not even a multiplayer game. Go watch Digital Foundry’s video (or read their article) about the Switch version of Fortnite, they were impressed with what Epic was able to achieve with the Switch hardware.

Running at 60fps is a pipe dream of a Pro Switch. However that’s not the issue. The issue is that Fortnite runs at 15 FPS on the Switch and will even dip below 10 FPS in some cases which makes the game literally unplayable. The only time it consistently runs at 30fps is in the lobby

As someone who has 1800+ hours on Fortnite Switch edition I can't say I'm not surprised. The loss of capture was saddening but understandable when I realized it was done to improve fps consistency. It's honestly frustrating in Arena endgame where I have less than 20 fps. Though, I really hoped that Epic could have added alternatives to just jab the frame rate issue a bit. Maybe giving us mobile graphics could've lightened the load off of the Switch to process more.
