Played Brawlhalla on Steam with the Pro Controller with my other Steam friends, it was very comfortable and definitely a step above the keyboard controls
Heha, that's not surprising. The Switch pro controller is very good. Well made, comfortable, and handle well. Hard to find a controller to compete with it. ^^
I'll just keep using my Xbone controller for now, but that's some really neat info.
Nintendoes what Valve don't
@iLikeUrAttitude You know that Valve added in native support for the Switch, right?
My favorite controller
@Smash_kirby I think it’s more that the Steam Controller is less than fantastic.
Whoa playing No Man’s Sky with a pro controller would be weird. Especially after I’ve come so far in the PS4 version.
Switch Pro controller is perfect for Dolphin Emulator. The new Gamecube controller is even more perfect.
I thought people were complaining about the d-pad on the Switch controller. Or has that been fixed?
This isn't surprising, the Pro is the best controller since the original Xbox 360 one.
@Fandabidozi The dpad still isn't the greatest, but it's adequate for most purposes.
Oh my, I didn't even realize La-mulana 2 has been released. I need to get on that at some point, thanks for the heads-up NL!
@Fandabidozi @link3710
There is a fix if you’re willing to disassemble your controller and cover the directional contacts with a little tape. Keeps it from reading false cross direction inputs.
@Fandabidozi It's smaller in dimension than they used to be for Nintendo, closer in size to the 360 one, but otherwise good.
Worth mentioning the older models are great for rolling (say fireballs in street fighter) but because of that much less accurate for 4-way menu choices (prone to read a diagonal if you're sloppy).
Wait huh? The Switch Pro Controller works with the Witcher 3 now? I remember when the controller launched that it had incompatible control sticks for some games, an example being that one.
I guess the official Steam support fixed that
Now what Valve should do is contact Nintendo and request approval for a Stream-Link app for the Switch. The Nvidia Shield has it, and it uses the same Tegra X1 SoC as the Switch does.
There is a good reason that the Switch Pro Controller is my favorite controller to date. I like it better than the Xbox controller, and much better than Sony's Dualschock family.
@nessisonett , SteamController was innovative to say the least. A pity that SteamMachines were not successful, without them there's not that much reason for valve to keep working on a controller. Couple more iterations with better materials, better ergonomics, more customizability in hardware part and that would could have been the perfect controller for pc.
That could be some good insight for Nintendo and 3rd parties about new ports for the Switch: Nier, The Witcher III, Yakuza, Ni no kuni are on that list and many Nintendo players wishlists.
@Fandabidozi that's only for the normal default joycons. People love the pro one, because they own the best design's patent or something like that.
@Cronopi I agree. Sadly the word "port" has become a bad word on this website as of late.
Shame, because there are plenty of ports, many of the ones you pointed out among them, that I'd happily buy on Switch.
Yeah I'll stick with my Xbox elite controller thanks. I actually wish I could get it working with the switch so I could ditch the pro controller.
@Heavyarms55 To be fair, its Nintendo's own fault that "port" has become a dirty word. They went for so long not relying on third party ports (basically from the N64 to the Wii U), now it's seemingly like they're expecting third parties to carry the system for them. I wouldn't mind a port of a few games in that list, but the moment I hear "Switch port" I still roll my eyes and wonder what trash is coming to the console this time.
It's just all ports.
With all that aside, Nintendo has released what in 2018 to 'compensate'? All I can think of is Smash Ultimate. They've got multiple studios alongside the past couple of years development time and we get a single exclusive (that I can think of) in a year? The 3DS has had more support from Nintendo than the Switch has this year.
Again, I don't mind decent ports, but we're not really getting the good exclusive content many actually bought the system for in the first place either. I feel Nintendo has gotten a bit lazy with the success of the Switch, not helped by the fact they're continuing to counter intuitively develop for a system that basically fulfils the same purpose and rivals their own system (the 3DS). I imagine another failure next gen, much like the Wii U, Xbone and PS3, where each manufacturer was way too overconfident with their previous success and received a critical fail in return.
Despite of it's expensive price, this controller performs great for me so far.
Odd part here about the "Port" everything is a port of another but yet when it comes to Switch the word "Port" is sacrilegious and can't be used.
I do use the Switch Pro Controller a lot on Steam, although from those games I think only Rivals of Aether was one.
It's an ok controller. The dpad holds it back quite a bit. The Xbox one controller is much better.
I prefer the 360 controller but it is nice to have wireless 2nd controller.
@Tao 7 exclusives (excluding ports) but yeah man, just Smash. To be fair, you sound very confused. Early New Year's eve drinks?
The Switch pro controller has overcome the DS4 to become my fav controller. It's so comfy, for my hands anyway!
Just got the Pro controller Splatoon edition, the best purchase of the year.
@datamonkey I always thought the DS4 felt quite cheap and poor. It isn't very ergonomic either. The Xbox One controller is much nicer, neck and neck with the Switch Pro. I do like analog triggers better though.
The Pro Controller is less than ideal for Steam gaming because of the lack of analog triggers. The Xbox One Controller is the best.
A good PC and Nintendo Switch is the absolute perfect gaming combination though.
Whenever I'm out like at my parents or whatever I have my Steam Link and Switch with me. By proxy this also means I have my Switch Pro controller but not my Xbone controller so I naturally use the Pro Controller for Steam.
A controller with digital triggers and a premium price tag in 2018 is an epic fail.
@Fandabidozi I fixed it with tape and it's a fantastic d-pad now. There's tutorials on youtube, but you have to open the controller to do it. Did it since day 1 I got the pro controller, and have never looked back. It's quality is great, and with that fixed, is one of the best controllers to have around.
@Retupmocnin Wait new cheap feel gamecube controller?
Although I don't use Steam, it is nice to see PC fans using what is possibly one of the best Nintendo controllers, period.
