Believe it or not, we're now just over two months away from the release of Assassin's Creed III Remastered on Nintendo Switch. You'll be able to get your hands on it from 21st May, but what can you expect to find if you do pick it up?
Well, answering that very question, Ubisoft has provided more details on the Switch version's exclusive features, expanding upon what was said when the game was first officially announced. The news comes from a blog post shared by the studio.
This release will include improved ergonomics and gameplay mechanics, and will also make use of exclusive Nintendo Switch features, such as:
- HD Rumble – provides an additional layer of feedback during gameplay
- Touch screen interface – enhances accessibility for game menus
- Motion Control – ensures an intuitive controlled feeling during distant weapon aiming
- Specific UI design – provides HUD adaptation for different display modes (Docked or Handheld gameplay)
Of course, other versions will benefit from other features such as support for 4K and HDR, something not possible on Switch, but it's nice to see that the game has been optimised for use with Nintendo's machine.
Will you be getting Assassin's Creed III Remastered in a couple of months' time? Let us know with a comment.

They really went all in for this. Motion, HD rumble, touch support, adjusted UI fonts for handheld... that's pretty much all the Switch features asked for.
I never finished an AC game. Having one on Switch, I think I'll actually play this through.
Played AC1, 2 and Black Flag and enjoyed them all. Might pick this up depending on price and performance review.
What about FPS?
If only this was one of the superior AC games...
"Specific UI design – provides HUD adaptation for different display modes (Docked or Handheld gameplay)"
It still baffles me that this isn't a standard feature in every Switch game.
So they know they are releasing the game on switch
I’d be more interested if there was a Switch exclusive weapon or costume.
As many raised here I have the same concerns. Will it have a stable 30fds? Will it have a progressive resolution? What's the maximum and minimum resolutions while docked and handheld?
I hope that everything is on the cart. For now I did not see a single image where the box art has the ugly sticker of required download.
Nah, I'll just stick with the fantastic Wii U version.
I get this free as part of the Assassin's Creed Odyssey season pass so I'll be playing on Xbox One X. I am curious about how well this performs on the Switch as it looked pretty awful in the direct
@PhantomJ no way... I’d like that on top but this means they have actually optimised the game on the switch. Which should mean performance will be ok too... if they just slapped in a costume we could still get a dodgy port. This sounds like they have made a real effort.
The different HUD for dock and handheld should be standard IMHO like someone else said.
This version has all DLC and expansions anyway so a extra costume would have got lost in the mix.
The Evaline game is especially good - played that a lot of the vita and I expect this version to be better.
Have this in the season pass on Xbox but really want it on switch for two decent AC games on the go. Even though three gets bashed a lot... it’s one of my faves. I love the setting.
They are releasing this at a bad time unfortunately. If they had done so a year ago this time I would be all over this. This year however is far too crowded and theres so much else I want. This has become a bargain bin game for me now.
I will get it being able to play on the go will be great.
So how is this gonna gonna shape up? Heard the QOL changes and additions sound solid. Stuff like the stealth whistle and bow aiming.
As much as there’s additional features, the game’s still dogsh*te. The illusion of control is well and truly gone by this one, with the game killing you if you don’t skin every animal you hunt. The story is yet again completely nonsensical and Switch would be much better getting Origins, the Ezio Collection or Black Flag.
An interesting gamble with this one for Ubi.
Are there enough Nintendo players that never touched this one?
Is it sufficiently "all purpose interest" for the brand as to not pidgeonhole itself?
Will people be buying physical or digital?
Results will likely be throroughly scrutinized to assist in the planning of Ubi's future efforts on the system in regards to AAA, or even just last-gen AAA.
Yo as long as they pushed the 12fps from the Direct up to at least a locked 30fps that’s be something worth saying.
But they didn’t say anything. Game is 15fps shipped day 1.
Never played an AC game other than the one on vita whatever that was and it was just about playable the glitches and bugs were laughable fans of the series seem to say this is the worst one so I’m torn will have to wait for some videos before a purchase
I was expecting something incredible like "exclusive Link costume from Zelda series".
Another game the Switch is getting later than other consoles... Ill have it on my PS4 as part of my season pass, so ill be playing it on there.
Stopped double dipping on games for Switch, generally cost twice as much on Switch than they do on Xbox/PS.
Getting ridiculous tbh.
The vita and wii u both had touch for the menues so that's not really a new thing. I'll be getting this though, AC portably is just too awesome to pass on 😁
Labo VR support or no buy.
The only AC game I want is Armored Core. Asscreed has been done to death, the last one that felt novel to me was 2.
My friend is getting this, and I'm getting Saint's Row. We'll swap when done. I played this on release, though. And I played Liberation when it hit consoles. I wish that we were getting something like Rogue, as I don't understand how 3 could be considered evergreen or unsaturated at this point. It's been on five consoles.
I'll be getting it. It's exactly where I left off in the series, actually. Gosh, how long ago was that? Like 10 years?
Not interested in playing through such an old game, again. This was also my least favourite one by far.
Maybe I won't fall through the ground geometry every ten feet in this remastered edition.
@Zach777
probably.
AC games run like crap on pretty much anything but the highest end PCs (and it struggles on those too).
I wouldn't expect much out of the switch (less than usual).
Hmm, a tricky one this. I'm very pleased about the addition of motion controlled aiming as I think that's an absolute killer app on the Switch.
That said, I had ACIII on the Wii U and all I remember is that the missions were all tedious insta-fail ones. Just walking where it didn't want you to go would instantly fail the mission.
@Reverandjames Assassin's Creed 1 would like to have a word with you.
there will be nothing new, there will be a new price))))))
@RainbowGazelle
That's funny. I just bought Assassin's Creed III on Wii-U eshop yesterday for $4.99. They also have Black Flag and Splintercell for $4.99 as well (already had those two).
@Sephrin
Unless it’s well under 30 and stutters/tears a lot I don’t even think about FPS on Switch it’s not why I bought it. Now on my PC I built with a GTX1080Ti paired with a 7700k I watch the FPS I get from 4k or 1440p games. They look so good on that rig.
I’m (36 years old though) I’ve watched graphics move from the 8-bit early days of Mario to the HD 4k bump mapped masterworks we see and take for granted today. All I’m getting at is in the end, is the game fun and or stress relieving? FPS...I’ll never understand why people get so worked up about it on consoles or handhelds unless it breaks the game in some way (fortnight...still don’t get why people play this) but to each their own.
@BulkSlash
Yeah that was terrible. This is actually a pretty bad game. For an AAA game it's pathetic. The sidequests are also just horrible filler crap ridden with bugs.
I personally did enjoy the setting, scenery and story though. If they release this for 20 bucks it'll be well worth it. Sad they didn't pick a better AC game to release on Switch though.
@Dilated I am 36 years old) I sometimes play UrealTurnament and I don’t care at all about its graphics)) there are just games that are legendary, classic games)
@Dilated
Have you seen the trailer? The game looked a little sloppy. I do not expect high graphics from the game , but i expect fluidity. I dont care if it is 540p or 4k it must run smooth.
@subpopz haha you're funny 😆😆😆
OPTIMISED?
Yeah sure.
Cool for those who want it, but I'm gonna pass, I just didn't care for this game when it came out. Call me up if Black Flag gets a port though, that game was amazing.
@Dilated,
I'm 43, and remember gaming with home versions of Pong machines... My first real console was an Atari 2600 (VCS). Never stopped gaming since. Practically owned every console under the sun (almost), plus always had a PC to game on since games on a PC happenned.
I too don't understand all this obsession about FPS unless it breaks a game or render it unplayable. And when I mean unplayable, I mean really unplayable to the point of making you miss jumps or other actions in games, which doesn't happen that much, TBH.
As with many, I completely understand that it's much more pleasant playing a game at 60fps or above, but what interests me more is whether the framerate is constant or not. I personnaly favor anything with a stable framerate, be it 30 or 60, or anything in between and beyond. Lower than 30, I don't mind either but that depends on the game. Don't care for strategy games like XCOM, but it's far from ideal in a racing or fighting game...
I played the Assassin's Creed game on the Vita, which wasn't as bad as others make it out to be. Not great though. But I still had some fun with it, so there's that. Framerate wasn't ideal, but what bugged me the most was the camera, which was often getting in the way and made things more difficult than what they should've been.
But yeah, this obsession about framerate some have... I don't really share this. What matters to me most is... ... the FUN! Can you believe that?
@Balta666 I'd say wait for the probable digital foundry analysis video for those answers
@PlayedNSlayed yeah, I know (definitely was not expecting ubisoft, or any developer, to say how low is it resolution)
@subpopz you may not but many gamers prefer higher resolutions and HDR as they improve visual quality massively. Don't get me wrong some games I would rather have on Switch but it's nonsense to say that Switch got the better deal when all that's happened is each platform getting updates relevant to its hardware.
The reality is many on PS4 and Xbox owners have the better deal as they have this included as part of a season pass they have already bought and that also includes a second Assassin's Creed game in Liberation remastered. All of that plus new content for the new game for £32 which will likely be less than the cost of just this game on Switch, I'd say that's by far the better deal even without HD rumble
If it's a solid 30fps and is around 900p, I'd consider it. But what we saw at the Direct was inexcusable.
Really wish more devs - Nintendo included - would do that specific UI design for handheld mode.
@Sephrin It was originally on an Xbox360 and a Wii U. Chances are it'll at least perform better than the Wii U version. I played AC4 on the Wii U, and the worst I saw was bad shadowing and unstable framerate.
@subpopz well to be fair you brought it up, and my own initial response was a bit silly.
In any case hopefully it runs well on the Switch for you, as that early footage wasn't promising but they have time to fix it or perhaps it was just a poor quality video feed
@Stocksy It’s not that deep.
Love the series, really looking forward to this, my favourite is still brotherhood. Though, Black Flag's good its side quests that make it, the actual stories meh. I enjoyed 3 first time round, its best in the winter section though.
Don't really understand why this game gets a bad press, i have played and beat this game, a great story that ends the story of Desmond Miles.
I think its great that Ubisoft is supporting the Switch with titles like this, there will be many Nintendo fans that have never played a AC game.
@Realnoize Man, it’s like I’m reading my own post or something! Minus the pong consoles and the age part (I’m 35).
I hope the Switch version sells well since it seems like a very well made port that is utilising the functions of the Switch in a great way, and so that Ubisoft wants to release more Assassin’s Creed goodness on Switch.
... I just wish that it wasn’t AC3, because that is frankly a pretty boring entry in the series, and now I’m afraid that many Nintendo players are gonna pick this up as their first AC game, and judge the series based on this.
@AlphaElite I think Assassin’s Creed 1 is much better than 3. I’ve played most games in the series, and for me AC3 is the second worst, after Bloodlines. I haven’t played Unity, tho, and many seem to hate that one so I suppose that could be worse than 3 also.
It's nice Ubi are taking the Switch serious with these additional features, however it's the framerate that's a concern of mine. The Direct made it look aweful, sort of sub-30 frames.
RUMBLE! TOUCH! MOTION! whispers... and maybe 15 FPS... YAAAY!
I'll reserve my judgment, but it seems like a stunt to divert attention. Please be good.
I am so happy to play a GC on my switch now.
Im waiting for a review first. If it’s received well then i’ll pick it up when it gets discounts in one of Ubisofts common eShop sales.
