Re: Nintendo Releases Statement About Switch Joy-Con Drift Issue

QuickSilver88

@Heavyarms55

Thats what I figured as others have said contact cleaner or dissemble and clean has fixed. If thats the case they likely already fixed it in new portable and may just ‘sneak’ the fix in on joycons at some point. If they lose the lawsuit they may have to extend warranty (like the x360) but its in their interest to correct it both for customer satisfaction and limiting future warranty claims.

Its a big nothing burger in regards to the Switch momentum train but we all know how this site likes click bait so here its big news.

Re: Nintendo Releases Statement About Switch Joy-Con Drift Issue

QuickSilver88

@konbinilife

Not buying a Switch light because of joycon drift makes no sense. The drift is either caused by weak joycon radios (known since launch) which are not a factor or do to a contact issue in the stick itself (only anecdotal). If there is a ‘weak’ link you think N didn’t look to change its design? Ultimately we won’t know to the product comes to market but just because the look like joycon analogues does not mean they are the same under the hood.

BTW I agree that the 3ds sticks were really good design for portable but no button and probably hard to integrate because of low profile,....I really hoped the light was gonna be a clamshell as that IMO is the best portable form-factor.

Re: Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night Switch Fix Expected To Arrive Soon

QuickSilver88

@NotSoCryptic

I fully and whole heartedly agree with your assessment. I love the concept of Switch so want play on it first. Plenty of ports both from last gen and current gen have turned out well on Switch. Most Indy devs are now leading with Switch because they know its the platform that produces the best sales. Still some companies are just putting out crap ports to capitalize on the Switch’s hot market.

This game surely got a late start as it was fundraising and being developed for a good period before the Switch version got started. Still its no excuse as the Switch version has outsold the other platforms so the publisher should have put the $$$ in to get it done right.

I hope others listen to your post and avoid buying this on Switch. Its not just the ‘problems’ with fps and input, as you stated more nicely than I will, it looks like crap. A great example right from the start is the water effects, which look fine on the x86 platforms, but are possibly the worst I have ever seen anywhere on the Switch version of this game.

I abandoned it on Switch and am playing it on PC. I, also like you, do not believe they can fix this trash work thru patching. It can be improved, but as a consumer why bother when the game looks and plays great on the other platforms. Buy it elsewhere and put your Switch money towards a game that deserves support.

Re: Nintendo Explains How It Would Combat A Hostile Takeover

QuickSilver88

@patbacknitro18

Its not bad logic as I wouldn’t trust Disney at all after what they have done with Lucas Arts and Star Wars games. I have hope for the upcoming mega game, but its a crime that great games like KOTOR don’t get new iterations. It was beyond reason to me that given the massive success of the Wii it never got a Light Saber fighter using motion controls.

Re: Nintendo Not Actively Pursuing Large-Scale Collaborations, But Open To Partnerships

QuickSilver88

This isn’t really much of a change as far as seeking game collaboration goes. N rarely seeks this out, although they have been sought out and been receptive in the past. I for one wish they would farm out major IPs more (particularly to major jap devs like Sega, Altus, Bamco, Square, Capcom). My reasoning is we NEVER get games in certain IPs. Why not have Sega do a new, modern, online Fzero. Or have Square do a new MarioRPG. I just feel some of these long dormant franchises could be competently handled by other devs and financed and published by N. I want new WaveRace, Excitebike3D, Mario Sports, PaperM, Fzero, KidIc, Mother, DK3D and so many more that N will never get to without outside help.

Re: Review: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night - A Fine Castlevania Tribute That's A Technical Trainwreck On Switch

QuickSilver88

I usually don’t take offense at poor ports as If they are a deserving enough game I play them on the best platform. Ark Survival is a good example. The game performs like poo on anything but a proper gaming pc, but on a Pc its where it performs right it is a joy.

What honks me about this port is how much it was hyped, how they jumped on the Switch train, how Nintendo pushed the game in directs, and how much we want s good modern vania game on a cutting edge portable. Add to that Switch has outsold ps4/xb1 so they essentially give Switch the crapyist version while making the most money off it. I will wait to see if they improve it but meanwhile enjoying on the PC.

Re: Phil Spencer Comments On The Possibility Of Xbox Game Pass Coming To Nintendo Switch

QuickSilver88

@Rob3008

I agree, as this has always been M$ MO across all their business. They have always been less proprietary than their competitors.

I think they see Switch as not direct competition and that it and XB could be complimentary devices for many USA users.

So why not license Forza Horizon for Nintendo to publish a Switch game, that PanicB would dev. Nintendo systems are always lacking in good racing games, a well made racer with Forza name would surely be a success.

Re: Random: Did Nintendo Just Show Off A New Switch Dock?

QuickSilver88

While I enjoyed all the click bait comments, I am surprised no one seemed to want to talk about potential new docks ideas.

Ok here is my best one that I doubt could work because the Switch USB-C port doesn’t have bus level bandwidth.

I want a dock called the Switch Blade that lets you put multiple Switches in it for parallel processing (like IBM old blade tech). It also has enhanced cooling and allows the units to be clocked to max speed (already being done by modders) of 1824mhz cpu and 912mhz gpu. All Nintendo would have to do is some api stuff for the os to support more cores and dual gpu but this Switch Blade config would also entice people to buy second Switches and it would have be the zaniest thing N ever offered.

Re: Feature: The Best Racing Games On Nintendo Switch

QuickSilver88

@Mii_duck

For multiplayer and other modes you know you can turn off items and/or shrooms. Doing that makes it a very different game where dricing the coarses beccomes a bigger factor.

@blockfight

Totally agree they put the fairly awful Gear Club and Grip on the list but skip V-Rally4 which Isn’t too bad. I have to believe Switch can do a prettier game but the physics are decent and so are the features. It plays pretty well in handheld so it snot Dirt but its far from bad. I have hopes for Grid but want Dirt and a good NFS game.

Re: WRC 8 Brings Realistic Rally Racing To The Nintendo Switch This September

QuickSilver88

Agree with others, geez MK doesn't need to be mentioned every time a racer comes along, hell it isn't even a realistic racer like the games they try to compare it to. This looks good, but honestly nothing has been as good as Dirt so I wish codemasters would get off their ass and port Dirt 3/Rally/4 (any of them would be better than any other rally game). At least we get Grid Auto soon and that will likely be the first 'decent' realistic racer. Everything else has been total trash so far. Whatever happened to those ass-clowns that do Project cars. Remember how they took lots of starter money for WiiU version and then tanked it but said oh we will bring PCars to the next N system. Switch has smashed sales expectations and they have already made Cars2 but still no N love. EA are just dumb uiyfgd as a new Hot Pursuit game that let you go after one another as cops and racers in adhoc mode would have to be a hit.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About The Metroid Prime 4 Delay?

QuickSilver88

@shgamer .........You have a cynical but not inaccurate point. There has just been so much mismanagement and so many failed projects and that has decimated many good development teams. There used to be a fairer (in terms of control and profits) balance between devs and publishers but the pendulum swung to the publishers and now too many decisions about game creation and direction are not made by the creative devs, but instead but the profit minded pubs. Its why so many good devs/directors have gone indy which is great because they have more freedom but not so great because less budget.

I am a huge fan of legacy gaming, but honestly I just think too much energy and focus is being put on that (industry wide) because its easier money and less risk. Really when you look at previous generations output of quality games this generation is just lacking. We had three awesome ME games last generation and one meh one this, we had multiple great rockstar games (as you noted) and now get our first developed for this generation 5 years in with RDR2 (it is a thing of wonder). Bethesda has been repacking Skyrim for 8 years now. No new Dragon Age since Inquisition which was not as good as 1/2. So yeah things have taken a nose dive, even though hardware unit sales have stayed high.

As for N, well I know a delay doesn't mean a good game, but their track record is a bit different than everyone else. They have a long history of delaying their top IPs and then delivering genre defining content. I think MPrime4 problem was more likely about style and content. The Prime games had a certain flavor because of their western developed influence. They were likely not 'capturing' that with the Jap internal team. I doubt it was technical issues in that they likely developed a nice engine already (and maybe the project will inherit that despite what they said). I think it was more likely the game just wasn't looking/feeling like previous efforts. Its hard to remember many major property that N has really screwed up ever, but other M comes to mind and I am sure they remember it as well. It was not a bad game at all, it just was a bad Metroid game and thats why it was a market and critical failure. MP4 was likely not 2019 anyways, so maybe now we see it in 2021.

19 looks awesome, I want FE so bad I can hardly wait for just a date announcement. Truly Nintendo has a lot announced right now so if most of whats known comes this year its going to be banner. Truly I would love to see them make a racing game that isn't MK. Everyone in the world wants a new Fzero, but once upon a time Waverace was the best game of its sort and Excitebike64 and Excitetruck were great as well. My main frustration has been with what IPs that choose to work, but I feel they are listening to fans more and bringing game like MP4, and AC after years of dormancy.

Re: Rumour: EA Working On Frostbite Engine Support For Nintendo Switch

QuickSilver88

@BlueBlur101

Agree on you assesment. They are just pathetic and ruining some great franchises with their ‘design’ choices.

What sucks is we can’t even have a competing NFL football game (what the hell NFL) and they have the Star Wars license yet see no rrason to give is a KOTOR3, a new Rogue Squad, or a Jedi Froce FPS. Really the aint doing shit with it that I care about.

I like other would love last gen greats ME,1-3, DA1-3, and something like a new NFS HP game with local adhoc.....but I doubt we will get squat I care about unless its Madden.

Re: Persona 5 Will Not Be Coming to the Switch

QuickSilver88

This is a downer but given that this is a American representative of a jap,comlany Imwouldn’t call it definitive. The Switch is slaying in japan. In 22 momths it has outsold standar ps4 @ 60 monhs. Popular games will continue tp get ported so maybe someday.

The article is misleading about Sega support. The new SMT V game is not a rumor, it was anninced in a previous Direct with game footage. N had always had SMT and PS Persona. If SMT is coming in 19 why step on it woth a P5 port?

Sega support has been good they just released Valk4 concurrently and a Vallk1 port. We also just got Mega Drive arcade. They also announced that Sonic Team Kart game.

Altus invests a lot in Japan in Vita, and then a good number of those ganes get localized. That action is coming to Switch as it has already passed lifetime vita sales so expect all those jrpg a otome games to be on Switch increasingly in 19 and beyond.

Switch is getting support from everywhere and it will continue. It just doesn’t make sense for publishers to bring some games. I think some of the current and last gen ports we are getting are amazing and prove that a lot can be shoehorned onto the little hybrid marvel.

Really when we got Switxh did we think we would be playing Skyrim, Doom, Wolf2, D3, NBA2K, FiFa, RocketL, Warframe, ValkChron, LANr, Battle Chasers.....lots of series or games many cynics never believed we would have on a N system. So relax more good stuff is coming and N themselves nave some amazing favorites already announced with more uo their sleaves to be sure. They just had a record holiday world wide. I can’t wait to see the 4qtr sales to see if they topped year one sales in 3qtrs, which they arre gonna have to do to hit the 20mil sales by the end lf march.

Re: Guide: Every Nintendo Console Ranked From Worst To Best

QuickSilver88

@WaveBoy

Thanks man....I can’t believe I took the tme to type it. Lets say NES and c64 were great compliments. In general 8bit computers had more complex games while NES was more action/arcade. You had games like Bards Tale, Pool of Radiance, Ultima (best early rpgs), The SidM games like Pirates, simcity and combat flight sims, great action games like Impossible Mission and the early MG and Wolfenstien games.

My GF at the time had the Nes and loved Zelda. I would go over just to watch her play (watch her lol). I saw the whole game before playing it myself. My favs were Metriod and Hogan's Alley which I dropped a ton of quarters in at the aracde before it came home. It says a lot about N’s suceess that the NES is arguably not in the top 5 of 13.

Unrelated but funny.....My old HS GF was named Dawn and we would often fall out playing games on her livimg room floor and her Dad would come out pre-dawn heading for work and kinda nudge me in the ribs with his boot and tell me it was time to go home. I used to tease her and tell her ‘Your dad has a strage way of getting me up at the crack of Dawn’.

Re: Guide: Every Nintendo Console Ranked From Worst To Best

QuickSilver88

So many factors but this list is pitchfork ready because it is total crap. As so have mentioned those of us who actually lived thru all these systems may see it differently. Its trying to be so sheik placing market failures above mega sucesses. So here is a list from a guy who owned all of these systems but the hazardous VGB.

1. Switch. Its a culture phenom and Nintendo’s best hardware design hands down. Its library is alreayd incredible and those that say its too soon..... Look whats already out and announced. Switch will end up with the best Nintendo, 3rd party and Indy library of any aN system when all is said and done. Last point N needed Switch to be a sucess so badly and it was/is.
2. 3DS - 75mil and counting 8yrs old and still supported has had multiple meaningful refinements, plus DS BC
3. DS 100mil units, great library, long life, GBA/GB BC.
4. SNES - The pinnacle of 2D gaming, 16bit era was compeditive but SNES was the best. Iconic library and comtroller.
5. Wii - 100mill units. It had a huge library of so much crapware but easily has over 100+ good to great games and VC and GC BC.
6. GBA SP.....how many of you really experienced handheld gaming before backlighting? It really sucked. SP clamshell design and BL were major innovations and then the GBA library and GB BC
7. NES.......it saved video gaming and launched many iconic franchises but honestly the best gaming of the 8bit era was on the C64.
8. NGC...We all loved it more after it was dead. It has maybe the best top 50 of any system ever. One major reason its viewed so well now is its best games have aged incredibly, far better than ps2. It was very under appreciated during its era.
9/10. GB/GBC......The sold like mad and had great games but ppl.... no backlights...it really was a different far worse deal.
11. WiiU.....mich of its design is funky or clunky and they marketed it like. It was doomed to fail even though it had an impressive exclusive and solid indy library. Honestly modded the WiiU becomes way better as you can play any GC or Wii game on the gamepad. Nintendo could have offere this on day 1 yet never saw the sense.
12. N64.......It sucked more than people give it credit for. Carts were expensive and small MB, that controller sure it had analogue but the design was a mess. 3 iconic games mad it a must own but everything great was N and Rare.
13. VGB...I actually saw and played one as a kid at Miejers. They were pretty rare as they were pulled fast and apparently debilitating. If N made a VR headset Switch would they dare call it VRBoy?

Re: Nintendo Says 3DS Will Keep Being Sold Unless Switch Becomes A "One-Per-Person System"

QuickSilver88

@RC_Russ98

I totally agree.....the Switch is a hybrid portable (tablet) system and the 3DS is a true handheld. Ever since GBA SP I have found clamshell to be the best design for a handleld system. What I believe they will/shoud do is spin Switch off into some different form factors. How about a clamshell mobile only clamshell unit @ $199, and I think a Switch micro console would be a no brainer. It could be about the size of VitaTV and have a procontrl version and a 2 player jycon version for $149 each. Why not do that while keeping the hybrid as the flagship...then they release the Switch pro wih X2 and full backward compatibility....game ove!

Re: V-Rally 4 Drifts Onto Switch Next Month In Europe, North America Will Have To Wait

QuickSilver88

@dystome

I 1000% agree on Dirt. Honstly I would take a Dirt3, Dirt Rally or Dirt4 port. All excellent games.

Codemasters have been coy not commiting to anything,. Grid and F1 great as well buy really Dirt series has widest appeal. Maybe we get micro machines first and if it sells well (and it would) we get more.

Hell we are even getting some decent FPS on Switch but the racing genre is just crap. MK8 and FastRMX were launch window tiles and since we have gotten zipp.

I wouldn’t even mind a good arace racer like NFS HP or MW or something like old PGR. Big oppertunity for someone that makes a quality racing game. Sega gives me hope but looks like we get Sonic Cart first which will be decent but no MK so why bother, Bring back Sega GT or Daytona that would be cool.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Takes A Look At Diablo III: Eternal Collection On Nintendo Switch

QuickSilver88

@Drussa

Didn’t see the exchange, but know your seniment and agree. For many of us long time multiple platform gamers, playing is about choice. I have always played both home and portable systems, so the Switch is the dream concept I always wanted. The amount of protable vs. TV time I have varies and finally I have a system that lets me play continuously regardless of my time configuration.

I legacy game more than I should so love all the ports, and Switch has given me a chance to finish games I couldn’t when locked to the Big screen (like Skyrim and even Zelda). I can not wait to get Ff12 remake on Switch and am loving Okami and others currently.

Performance wise the Switch is a marvel for what it is. I am amazed they are cranking this quality of grafx out of a mobile chipset device. Many devs are doing a good job with ports and creating degraded but intact and enjoyable games. As you said we don’t need people dogging ports as we know they will be less than the x86 versions. So what, hybrid means I will get to play it and finish it, I have about 20 PS4 games I have never touched.

Lets not forget the Switch is getting more than just late or last gen ports. The Indy scene has really matured and Switch has become the top destination. We are getting good new stuff as well with more coming as the system gains market mass it gets harder for majors to ignore it.

The best part is its only the begining for the tech stream and concept. Nintendo will ride this forever. They always owned the portable market and now they own the hybrid/portable market. Eventually we will get the next Nvidia chipset, it will give us 1080p or beyond.

As for waiting for N games......when they are rolling (and they are), N gets a lot going in the pipeline then has a big year. They did that smartly in 17, this year was a small lull with lots of good wiiu ports, but 19 amd beyond are going to be big. Which makes the final point which is N has a very successful system again and that means we are going to see an incredible next several years.

Re: Sega Is Listening To Fans, Would Love To See Shenmue And Sequel On Switch

QuickSilver88

In some way Shenmue benefits greatly from nostalgia. Yakuzi has been mentioned a lot, but in vibe I think Sleeping Dogs is a closer cousin. Shenmue did a lot of things that were emerging and strung them together around a decent (been so long) story. So it has some limited open world exploring, some decent combat, some mini-games, it was an early attempt at what later games did much better so therefore beloved.

The second game came essentially after the DC was dead. It wasn’t even widly released in NA but you could get the EU version and it vame with a boot disc to make the game boot in NTSC. It did not have localized english voice using jap voices with English text. I am one of like 14 people that bought it. What was compelling people to want the second game was the story. In 2002 it came out on XB0 and they just did a brutally awful voice localazation. That would have been OK but it did not have japanese option and many considered it to be almost unbearable.

The series was intend to be a trilogy and after all these years I am more interssted in what the game can be now. I would much rather see the 1/2 remaster on Switch as honestly I don’t think a port holds up that well. JetGrind and Crazy Taxi would hold up a lot better for straight ports.

Re: Tomb Raider Won’t Be Making The Switch Anytime Soon, According To Eidos Montreal

QuickSilver88

@BlueOcean

Yeah....you know I played AC4 almost entirely on Gamepad and I think it performed better there as it was only running @480p. Plus If I remembered AC2 trilogy that I played on X360 wasn't exactly a FPS dream.....it is after all Ubi.

Splinter Cell Blacklist. Which Ubi actually did a really good job on. The PS360 version had really terrible screen tearing that was bad even though it was not uncommon on those systems because of the way they frame rendered. The WiiU version ran at a higher native res (720p vs. 540p on x360) and because the way the WiiU frame buffer worked it never had tearing.

SCBL (now I can use it) was really a very fine Splinter Cell game and it sold like absolute crap, I mean like 10K on WiiU but less than 100K units on x360. The timing of the release, being at the end of that generation must have been a factor. I truly wish that game would come to Switch but also get an enhanced release on the twins. It sold so poorly Ubi said they were parking the series and then TC died so not sure when it we will see it again.

It was also one of the few games that used gamepad meaningfully. Its only flaw was the level load times were long...like close to 1min or so. Once you are in the level though no more loads so it was not a deal breaker.

Re: Tomb Raider Won’t Be Making The Switch Anytime Soon, According To Eidos Montreal

QuickSilver88

@BlueOcean

You really are not that far off as Switch in battery mode is about as powerful as WiiU and similiarly aimed at 720p. Docked its just sped up enough to do that same things @ 1080p. One thing to remember is most x360 games only rendered @540p so hinestly I find it hard to believe Switch can’t run any last gen game, just some wouldn’t financially make sense.

Also even though the hardware power is not far above last gen, the ram size and system design are fully modern and this makes a big difference when considering porting. Some great ports were done on WiiU but it was a pain and then the games didn’t sell. WiiU ran AC4, DeusEX, ME3, SCBL, NFSMW all really well so if it could run those games I am sure Switch could run TR2013 if a capable team ported it.

Last point and that is you are wrong on Zelda, I have put in time on both WiiU and Switch and the post release optimizations were far greater on Switch. They improved the FPS performance almost everwhere but Kforest while WiiU still has regular drops to the low 20s everywhere.

Re: Motion Twin Apologises For Frame Rate Drops In Switch Version Of Dead Cells

QuickSilver88

These frame rate sensativity ‘issues’ probably break along the lines of how long you have been playing games....lol. Life is much better now as games do get tuned after release as code can be optimized while back when once it went gold that was usually it.

I love those that bring the righteous indignation. First don’t buy the game, or don”t buy at launch and wait for likely fixes. Second, every console generation I hear oh this is the generation we overcome FPS barrier. Still issues persist and as others have said almost always will with consoles. The PC is the perfect antidote because even if an engine sucks if you throw enough power at it the game runs well FPS wise. The Switch is ike the polar opposite of the PC as its the most constrained hardware that can capably run a game say like Wolf2 or NBA2K. What this does is challenges devs to do their best to produce a viable offering. Devs are already improving as the second gen of games start come in and obviously N can make it sing so the future looks bright.

Re: Rumour: Google Is Creating A Gaming Platform To Rival Switch, PS4 and Xbox

QuickSilver88

So much negativity which as a gamer since the dawn of gaming I understand the skepticism. I have been saying for a while that Apple would be the best suited to enter the arena but even they would have their issues.

First off lets understand how difficult it has really been to succeed in gaming. We already had a cash rich Western mega company take the approach of throwing a lot of resources at getting into gaming. Add to that M$ had a lot more pros in their makeup to get into gaming back then, than either G or A do today. Even with all that, M$ success has been mixed and their profitability has been crap and would not have been sustainable if not for their ahead of the pack, paid online service. The only other reasonably successful American console company in history was Atari who burned bright and crashed hard. Sony was not a healthy company before the sucess of PS4 and N was coming of their worst home console gen ever before the sucess of Switch. Xbox is really only viable in NA as they can’t give them away in Jap and rhe Switch is already outpacing it in the EU. So its just not that easy as I could detail many, many failed attempts.

Any more acquiring studios is not such a big deal, the commitment comes from funding the development of large or what we call AAA projects. They cost an unreal amount of money to dev. Just watch the credits and realize all those 100s of people have to get paid and paid for in some cases years to creat a single modern game. This is only increasing with 4k and VR level assets. The game has to be good and has to be a success or lots of money is lost. TR2013 was GOTY material IMO, it sold a little over 4mil in yhe launch window and square deemed it a fincial failure.

At this point loyal fanbases matter a lot as do brands like PS,XB, and N as well as the major publishers. The question is what could Google bring? N is going to continue to dominate portable and offline, as well as family and local multiplayer gaming. Every major pub is interested in x86.

Streaming is a joke, and honestly portable streaming is even more laughable. For some game types it can work but honestly will you ever have low enough latency to play twitch reflex gsmes? How about pushing 4k content?

So yeah good luck but even if the spend a wad they likely won’t be a serious player as the market doesn’t need them.

Re: Wolfenstein II Developer Says Switch Port Will Have No Compromises

QuickSilver88

@NEStalgia

I hate it when people are like oh X1 old tech.......it was the most viable chipset N could use at the time. People overlook the ‘stability’ gained by having a well tested SOC. Switch is an engineering marvel. The balance between price, size, power, battery, and thermal design is why its a hit.

Its in a unque position in that only Apple is well positioned to build a compeditor and even if they did their market won’t support full priced games.

Re: Nintendo Has Detailed The USB Cables You Can Use To Safely Charge Your Switch

QuickSilver88

@JaxonH

Actually the Switch does not cap usb A @ 7.5w. It has been verified some 2.4A USB-A chargers deliver 12w. One of them is the very common ipad 12w charger.

I can confirm this as I have played and charged when in portable mode with this charger which would not be possible with 7.5w. Also when sleeping(portable) that 12w charger charges at about the same speed/rate as when docked and sleeping.

USB-C 5V is likely going to be fine and should be able to deliver 3A or 15w. It really appears its voltage Switching USB-C that are bricking as when docked he Switch requests a voltage jump and some power adapters are not repsondind properly.

Re: Team Xecutor Confirms Its Upcoming Switch Hacking Device Will Work With All Firmwares

QuickSilver88

@OorWullie

Actualoy we don't know any details yet. Most softhacks, especially before they evolve into CFW posses the limits you speak off, but this is announced ae a hardware mod. Which means it could pontentially be a secondary flash (allowing OFW and CFW) or could be some type of bootstrap mod. Either one can allow unsigned code and still allow full function.

As for hacking in general.....love it, never met a device I didn't want to mod. Hell I even run a CFW on my cannon digital SLR. Some devices are greatly improved when hacked/modded. WiiU is a perfect example. Hacked you can run GC and all other Wii on the Gamepad which is a feature N could have easily given us but never did.

Ok here is a bit of irony. There was a class action law suite against Sony for removing the other OS feautre from the phat PS3 firmware after the slim launched. The Lawsuit was won and anyone who,has a ps3 phat can claim $65 (hury mid april is the cutoff). Anywho the other OS feature was key to the early hacking and first jailbreak. So Sony rightfully tries to remove it as a vulnerability and then gets sued. Both my phats are hacked and I get $130 for it......great that can pay for my Switch mod chip........bwaaahaaahaaa

Re: Nindies Showcase For Nintendo Switch Airing Next Week

QuickSilver88

@SLIGEACH_EIRE

Slig you are always so contraire but not entirely wrong. Look I sort of knew what to expect with Switch I own all systems and truly XB1 is nearly useless for exclusive comtent. PS4 has an incredible exosystem. Still in your first post you complained about Switch 'mix' but the x86 twins also have tons of ports, remasters, legacy, and indies. Also in year one both boxes got a ton of last gen games. So is Switch much different?

Switch got some great exlsuive content in year one and will get more and I believe from other major publishers. Everyone knew Switch was likely not going to get x86 parity spftware support wise but it easy to port and dev on and its a wild commercial sucess so pubs and devs are interested.

Everyone has a wish list of games (old or new) they would like to see come to Switch. I was estatic when Okami, SPark and Toad were announced in the last Direct. I lot of content has been announced in the mini and direct and its only March. E3 is coming in a few months. What would you like to see from N or other Pubs announced for Switch?

Re: Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Makes The Leap To Switch And 3DS

QuickSilver88

@SLIGEACH_EIRE

Slig...try not to take it so hard. I loved WiiU, still have it. Now that its fully hacked it has great utility beyond running just WiiU libray. I bought many of WiiU exclusives and I am ok with ports, especially when they are mildly enhanced.

captoad is a great little game and honestly perfect for Switch because its a pick up and play puzzle game made for portable. Ports are the norm these days for every system. X86 twins get and have a ton of last gen ports and remakes. WiiU was a market failure. Like all Ninendo playforms it had some wonderul exlusives, they deserve to be ported and see a larger audience.

To everyone else fretting Toad is already listed @ $40 on USA sites so will be even cheaper with retail discounting.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 8th March

QuickSilver88

Overall I thought this was a really great direct. Obviously the new content was limited, but come on people E3 is just 90days away and everyone knows any truly big reveals will come then. If you looks at all the new content, wii ports, and 3rd party ports revealed in this direct and the last mini its considerable, especially when you take into fact that its March and we have all this lined up for 2018.

Several of the reveals, were just confirms and others were port news but I got confirmed a line-up I was clamoring for.

Mario Aces is going to be top notch, you can tell N is making this the AAA Mario game like other Mario Sports in the past. The gameplay is going to be intense, and while they downplayed the RPG elements in this direct, I am sure we will see much more before release.

The trifecta announcements of Okami, Toad, and SPark was awesome. Toad is a totally underrated puzzle game that is perfect for hybrid pick up and play. I was hoping they would port it and bring more content and they are. Really WiiU only has very worthy games left to port IMO and that would be Paper Mario, Xeno X, and SMTxFE. Those are all awesome games that deserve a bigger audience.

The 3rd party support has been better than expected, and I love seeing favorite game X being made portable, but I will be really interested to see what new or unique content 3rd parties are working on.

There are so many very good to great Indy games hitting eShop weekly. Its really hard to keep up with whats good and worth buying. I wish N would do the next mini-direct focused on the Indies.

Re: Darkest Dungeon Goes Physical With The Ancestral Edition On Switch

QuickSilver88

@Dus

Man I hear you that I have been trying to change my game buying habbits because I have a rediculous backlog. So i have been trying to buy less 'launch' games and go to more stategic 'sale price' purchasing.

As for Indies to cart......I guess sometimes they may not know they are going to cart, but if they do they should announce it before digital launch. In most cases you are getting it months earlier digita so for hiehards thats worth something. I get that publishers are trying to protect retail with eShop prices but in many cases physical can be had cheaper (in the usa) which makes digital less attractive unless its on sale. I think digital whould always be marginally cheaper because it is considerably cheaper for the pubs and gamers understand the difference and the many that wan't permanent copies will by physical.

Re: Feature: The Biggest Nintendo Switch Retail Games of 2018

QuickSilver88

This is a great list and we are not even three weeks into 2018. Lets all relax as the is the pre E3 list. Expect more @ E3 including more announced 3rd party support. Not sure why no SMT V, Y's, or ValkChron4 as those are all big for rpg lovers, has ValkChron ever been on anything but Sony?

Re: Video: There Are More Nintendo Labo Toy-Con Than You Might Expect

QuickSilver88

@Flipbot

I totally agree with you on the quality of the software. Also about the appeal to the DYI crowd. I saw a video of these teens tkaing a barbie jeep and putting a 250cc motor on it. They had a full machine shop and built a new chasis and all but it show 'projecting' appeals even though labo is obviously aimed at those kids younger siblings. I too immediately thoght 3D printers to make more durable versions.

Conceptually I think this is an interesting evolution of AR tech. Who knows how far it will go but I guarantee by holiday 2018 they have a labo Switch bundle. It may be like the Wii balance board which @ close to $100 sold incredibly and pushed Wii sales further. IMO the Wii board never got the killer game its sales deserved.

Lets be optimistic in that N has made some cool and addictive mini games. It seems like them to likely tie some labo features to mainline games, like Amiibo. Will they invest a entire mainline game like a special mario party or pokemon snap....time will tell.

Really doesn't it kind of show how Switch could rule the world.....lol. If it had web, apps, media players, and played top flight games and did this carboard AR poop whats left.....flip it screen down turn off the fan and use it as a hotplate. N has literally figured out how to print $$$.

Re: Labo's Cardboard Revolution Adds Almost $1.4 billion To Nintendo's Value

QuickSilver88

@thesilverbrick

I don't think that is going to be a big problem. The patterns wil be copied and available and you will be able to recreate you 'toys' with common,y avaiilable materials. Surely N will sell refills.

I was thinking earlier surely people will be recreating these paterns with 3D printers.

@Fred13

Totally agree on the software but this is N and they know something about making mini-games which is what this is. I too see the potential of eaching someoen something like how to a play a cardboard piano.

Anyone worried about price has never walked in one of the art/edu stores because similiar DYi 'kits' for kids learning are not cheap at all and maybe you get a DvD. Overall I think its cool enough and its going to make N lots of easy money and expand Switches audience further with kids and families. Now take that money and make more awesome games (which they will) so its all good.

Re: Feature: Killer Apps We Really Want To See On Nintendo Switch

QuickSilver88

Apps are what the Switch needs to become fully dominate. No one says you have to install them. I can't believe they didn't mention a general media player. I mean come on we can easily drop mp3/mp4 on the sdcard and then you can watch series or movies and instantly Switch formats. Some streaming apps are allowing timed DLs which would work the same. The idea is I am watching Dr Who at home, need to hit he road and boom off I go (making the wife drive) continuous viewing.

Re: Nintendo Reiterates That It's Not Interested In Virtual Reality Or 4K Support

QuickSilver88

@gildahl @Alikan

What you guys are saying about 4K is backed by scientific facts. Our eyes basically cannot process the difference between 1080p and 4K at even moderate distances. I think they said with a 60' 4K you have to sit at about 3.5ft to see the difference. Honestly its frame rate that matters over resolution. I would rather see 1080p 60fps become the standard before 4K.

Really things N said several years back imdicated they wanted a 'platform' like apple/droid where they could maintain compatibility and continuity. Switch offers that especially now with its wild early success. I expect a mini-portable only Switch to replace 3DS and they could also have a $150 mini home Switch. Switch 2.0 can support the existing Nivida TegraX2 and be fully BC so the mid gen upgrade is probably already designed.

Best thing is their market position is fairly secure. M$ is not gonna touch hybrid. $ony might want to but they lost their asses on Vita and what are they going to create that isn't a copy. They can't get drastically better hardware without a much higher price point and thermal and battery still remain constraints. The company best positioned to compete is Apple. Problem is they aren't Nintendo and have no real game devs, add to that their ecosystem won't support full price games so what will be published. Switch is in a great spot for a long time to come as long as they evolve the tech and why wouldn't they.

Re: Video: Nintendo's Track Record With Direct Broadcasts Points to Another One Happening Very Soon

QuickSilver88

@JaxonH

You have said everything I wanted to and saved me the effort. People act like all the games you mentioned don't exist because they aren't in a Direct. Then pan the games announced in the Direct. OMG to a long time Nintendo fan it seemed solid. You get TWEnds, MarioT, Dark Souls, DKTF, Hwarriors, and Ys all previously unannounced and people act like thats nothing. I was stoked over Mario Tennis. People are gaga over Golf Story and it pretty much took everything from Camelot and the old gba/gbc Mario golf/tennis games, now Camelot is making a modern MarioT RPG and I am sure its going to rock.

The WiiU had some fantastic exclusives that so few people played. Many of them really deserve to be played in a portable format. I just don't think anyy real WiiU owners are but hurt like the trolls in this thread pretend to be.

Last point and that is in addition to the known games, and the ones announced in the Direct we have significant Indy games being announced and launching weekly. I am stoked for Darkest Dungeon, Wayward West and many others. There are so many games I want on eShop I am only buying them when on sale. I just have too much content so why rush. And thats the simple truth that frys the trolls which is Switch has so much great content coming you can't cover it all in a single mini or full Direct. Happy Days

Re: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze And Hyrule Warriors Are Coming To Switch

QuickSilver88

Jeez.....some people getting torqued because of WiiU ports. WiiU had such a pathetic install base, it just makes sense to get the WiiU's quality titles out there. Hyrule make sense becaue FE warriors engine already on Switch so likely the Hyrule port was worked at the same time. What would be great is of down the road they out both warrior games on one cart. As for DKTF....its a total classic and the only knock is its damned hard. Adding funky kong will make it appealing to about 5x more people. I would love to see more ports like Capt Toad, Paper Mario and Xeno next.

Re: Nintendo Switch Is The Fastest Selling Console In US History With 4.8 Million Units Sold

QuickSilver88

@JoeYabuki
Joe where did you even find that qoute? I am an original gamer meaning I started gaming with the start of gaming. I have owned just about every system portable and home ever made. I always dreamed of continuous gaming and embraced concepts like N64 transfer pack and gba-cube cables. Sony did some usefull things with cross save/buy. Still the home/away dynamic was always limited to some games and less than seamless.

Got Switch day 1 in the US and haven't played much else all year. Its a glorious thing to finally be able to Switch formats with my gaming instantly. This is the concept dedicated gamers always wanted.

Re: Wasteland 2: Director's Cut Will Bring Post-Apocalyptic Turn-Based Strategy to Switch

QuickSilver88

Ok I am old and once upon a time was a PC gamer and the original Wasteland was a cult classic that people crowed about for a decade back in the day. I was pretty excited about the long overdo sequel a few years ago and picked it up on PS4, and like so many games never played it. I did boot it and create a team and start it and it looks and plays solid. Honestly this is just the type of game to be played on a hybrid console like the Switch because it will consume a lot of hours and yet can be picked up and put down easily because of the turn based mechanics. All we need now is Xcom and Starcraft and with this, MRK, D5 and FireE the Switch will be a SRPG beast.

Re: ARMS Version 4.0 Arrives on 16th November

QuickSilver88

I played the open Beta and though it was quite a fun and cool arcade fighter......which isn't really my cup of tea. I must admit that Nintendo is doing a great job supporting it post launch with all the new fighters and arenas. This should set an example to all those SOB publishers with their endless micro transactions.

Re: Reggie on Backing Up Your Saves with the Switch

QuickSilver88

@SLIGEACH_EIRE

You have to be right because there is zero complication to giving us microSD backup. I don't get the issue though because save game files on consoles have been encrypted for a longtime.

Still N is the worst of the big 3 at locking down their systems so they are probably paranoid that putting a save on SD will give hackers a way to analise it.

Re: My Nintendo in North America Adds New Sonic Rewards

QuickSilver88

Why no damned Switch discounts or free content for my points. This new rewards program sucks as we all knew it would. Club N rocked and I got so many cool collectibles over the years that were never generally sold, greatly increasing their future value. I would rarely even take software discounts saving points for the good stuff. My Switch purchased points are 100% wasted as I don't want poo for WiiU or 3DS. Give us Switch rewards big.N!

Re: Review: Chess Ultra (Switch eShop)

QuickSilver88

@slider271 OMG I had that game and would use that mode because it made considerably better moves with the 8hrs,. It did pretty well for it's pea brain 8bit 1mhz (yes) CPU.

Your Moms name isn't Dawn is it......lol.
