I was thinking 1440P because it would be usefull for VR. 1080P is pretty much the minimum for VR use (PSVR and other Gen1 masks) so making it 1440P would make it a nice VR device and make it easy to 2X upscale existing Switch 720P portable games. You know Nintendo......this is all speculation and they will probably give us something no one is expecting.
I like your angle and just knowing Nintendo I think your take is more likely to be right than a straight up Switch 2 successor.
Thing is the current environment almost demands BC. M$ has done a wonderful job offering full BC all the way back to their original XB and while $ony hasn’t gone quite as far you can get w lot of prior gen games and the key is I can keep taking the vast library I have been accumulating forward.
I hope somehow N can do it all. We are past the point of diminishing returns with the whole TV/Console dynamic. I think VR is the future of gaming. What else is left in gaming other than pushing immersion and thats VR.
Ok so here is my hope. We get A BC hybrid that uses a 1440p OLED screen (double the Switches 720p) and the system uses DLSS to push 1440 portable and 4K docked. It comes with a quality VR mask to slip the unit into and that mask has advanced gyros for head tracking and audio earbuds (like psvr simple but works). With BC major titles could be patched either for texture/res/frame rate improvements or VR support or both. Some new titles may be Switch VR only but many can continue to support the family. This could all be easily possible if Nvidia can deliver a true ‘next gen’ mobile chipset for N to utilize.
Truthfully though for many people the Switch being a hybrid is/was a big deal. No one is even really trying to inhabit that market with much seriousness. N is still and always the dominate force in portable/handheld but Switch gave them another market with the Hybrid gamer. I just don’t think they want to walk away from either market, especially when there is so little true competition. Its gonna be tricky but hopefully they have learned lessons from past generations wins and losses to better know how to follow up one highly successful stint with another.
@NintendoWife Hopefully they have learned their lesson which is launch with something major,have a great first year of releases slated and keep engaging and promoting 3rd party partners. As you said Wii really didn’t move huge units of very many titles, by comparison Switch is a goldmine for publishers.
@IronMan30
Ahh Hogans Ally…..that was one of a handful of arcade games I could do some serious damage on with one quarter when I was a kid. Given the current environment I wouldn’t expect any gun games from Nintendo anytime soon….hell we may never get Advance Wars unless Vlad keels over…..if those are the new PC rules in gaming we may never see a new COD game again.
@ktej75 I wholeheartedly agree with your statement…seriously Switch is being so ignored by some corps, particularly the jap region baffles me. Konami is totally absent on Switch. Fifa is an insult on Switch, so why not a PES game and then zippo on Metal Gear for the premier portable in the market. On the US side EA has just whiffed. Switch has sold bonkers in the US and EA just can’t find a way to bring a Madden game? The only NFL game allowed to be made and the best selling system since 17 doesn’t deserve a football game. They all seem like whiffs to me as these corps are missing on major opportunities to rake in cash. Switch is now over 100M and still growing stronger and faster than PS5 for likely 22 and 23. Switch still has 2-3yrs left so hopefully these publishers/investors wise up and bring more support.
I will just say this for everyone here…..What the he!! Altus, You can just go F off. Ok there I feel better. Thankfully SMT V was excellent. I mean it took forever but it is a great Altus game. Still they keep giving these surveys when they know what the answers are. Yes Altus we want more ports, and guess what dumbos we are now a user base of over 100M users….ummm 20M more than the last time you asked. For the 10000000000 time we want P5, P4G and P3FES and then other stuff (I like devil survivor) too. Hopefully they get the message but I won’t hold my breath.
Well Zelda games have always lagged in sales behind all things Mario and Pokemon. One thing to consider though is Zelda was a launch title so it was initially being sold against a zero/new user base. I think for a Zelda game it has trashed all previous entries sales wise. MarioO does surprise me a little bit because its Mario and its an incredible game, and Mario is still popular enough for MParty to sell close to 20M, but Odessey has barely beat it out? So yeah that is a bit suspect but hey maybe peeps just aren't into the 3D platforming like they used to be. Its been a long time (ps3_) since $ony released a Sly Cooper game so maybe run and jump games are a thing of the past....LoL...I hope not but really what has anybody put out other than Psyconauts (great game) recently?
@UltimateOtaku91 GBA was a thing at the same time as the GC so you would be looking at a little over 102M units combined for that generation. They will never top the DS/Wii combo though selling over 250M units combined those were high times. Since the Switch Light the Switch does have an official portable only model to go with the hybrid models. What I wish they would release before the next generation is a Switch mini console (like the VitaTV). They could bundle that with a pro controller and sell it for $149 to give users a cheap home only option.....I would buy one, but hey I love mini consoles.
I like the look and vibe as I dig the whole meso theme. It sounds like the reviewer was .somewhat torn in that he gives it a 7 but then burns a lot of words telling you go ahead and play it. Even if it is derivative if it is a compelling enough game give it a higher score to more properly indicate your approval.
I am old (in gaming years) and just don’t have the time to play as much as I once did. That makes it hard to give anything less than excellent material much attention, especially when there are so many excellent games. The 2D platform genre is just packed with excellent titles including N”s own heavy hitters like the recently released Dread. What’s more sad is when a game that’s a true gem is relatively obscure. My favorite less mentioned games in this genre are Owlboy, Iconoclasts and the last gen stealth masterpiece Mark of the Ninja.
What a bunch of tools.....so sick of EA. I hate soccer so who gives a crap but it just angers me that they in year one slap together some last gen engine and then just ride it as 'legacy' the rest of the way. Then they hold the NFL license and have apparently decided that 20M+ Switch sales a year and a platform now over 100M is not worthy of their Madden game? So all they have released for the Switch in 5yrs is FIFA (ps3 version), two racers (NFS HP and Burnout), Fe, and those yarn games (name eludes me)....no Madden, no Mass Effect trilogy, no dragon age, no Sims....no nothing of what people might actually want. So no soup for EA as they stupidly chose not to support Switch and now its the best selling system since its launch. Brilliant.
Uhggggg……will people please stop with power whining. We still don’t have a significantly better mobile SoC to replace the X1, at least not at the price point N would need to create a consumer priced device. We all know why and we all know its not expected to resolve quickly. A device that runs on 8-30w is never going to be as powerful as a damned home console or PC. NEVER….it would have to be quantum and bend the known rules of physics as performance is ultimately tied to power consumption. Nvidia has shown some nice things with AI driven upscaling that will eventually get in a next gen mobile SoC…..that N will likely implement. Until then we are stuck, but so is all of gaming as $ony can’t be happy they can only sell 12M PS5s a year. No major manufacture is going to release squat in the environment we’re in. Not just the shortages but the inflation factor now as well. They can’t even give us a steady supply of $500 PS5/XBSX how the hell are they going to give you something better at that price point? Steam deck is slick but the masses aren’t paying those prices for a portable hybrid device. We have seen too many ports done right now on Switch and there is no excuse for MLBTS not to run well other than shoddy or rushed development. MLBTS ran wonderfully on the PS3 and PSV because it was properly developed for those systems. The Switch’s power is what it is and its been amazing what N and other devs have been able to pull off with it. This is a huge opportunity to bring The Show to the most popular gaming system in the world and its their loss if they blow it.
Geez people can we let the game come out before we judge. As with any sports game frame rate is the key element. Hopefully they get that worked out. Lets be real here expectations wise, this game should be geared towards portable/handheld use. With the cross play/progression anyone who seriously plays MLB on x86 platforms can now go portable and back as easy as docking. This game always looked great on Vita and it will look better and have fuller features on the Switch’s 7” screen. Any way its a major score and could be a real joy for hardcore fans. The Show is the only MLB game made and had a strong playstation rep before going multi platform last year. Their release for Xbox ran well for first year on X/S and XB1X. Now we just need EA to wake up and give us Madden and NHL with cross play/progression and NBA2K as well. I want cross save a lot more for multi-plat RPGs as well. A few like DoS II have done it with PC.
Well this is good news but not surprising. M$ puts Office on platforms other than Windows and supports Win on non x86 devices. Their Ori and Cuphead ports were top notch so I look forward to seining what they might be willing to bring. Switch got some Bethesda games maybe we get Fallout 3 or Nv yet.
In regards to a particular consoles life span….It is all largely continent on sales performance. For N they have had to ‘end’ some of their cycles early because the machines were commercial failures (GC/WiiU) and in the case of the Wii it in the end was a fad and just ran its course. The Switch is lining up more like the successful consoles of the last few gens. X360 went 8yrs years and PS3 was 7 (before new hardware was released). PS4 and XB1 went 7yrs. In all successful examples not only did the systems have long runs but then had releases and support for years after the new gen released. People may have missed this but N said back during WiiU struggles that they wanted to have a multi-gen platform like ios/mobile so expect Super Switch Pro to be fully BC whenever the next gen comes N would be fools to walk away from the library we now have for Switch. The other factor is where is the SoC. N signed a 10yr deal with NVidia….PPL rag on age of X1 but Nvid has kept it around and just upped the clocks and bus speed. They still have not developed the true next gen to replace it (X2 is a niche soc they made for car navs). N needs a new SoC to really bring us the next gen Switch and we all know the current state of ‘chips’.
They already revised their 2021 numbers down a little as well as 2022 forecasts, but honestly this is just because of chip shortage/supply chain issues. I mean they are still predicting 20M sales for 22 which is amazing for what will be the systems 6th year of sales. Its gonna keep selling well because they are going to keep pushing top games and it will keep getting selective rehashes and 3rd party games, and it exists in a niche with fairly little competition. I was amazed to see Sony is only predicting 12M PS5 sales for the coming year. The pandemic is really hurting gaming companies no doubt. I'm just thankful that the Switch was a well-conceived hit because it has Nintendo riding high and allowed them to put out a lot of great games that have a platform to sell great on. Zelda BOTW, FE3H, MarioO, and AC are the best iterations of those series to date. Same could be said for Dread (being best 2D Metriod). I still think they are missing a huge opportunity by not releasing a Switch Home Mini. They could make that so cheap and release it with a pro controller for like $179 and then have a home only option for those that want it or those that would rather have a light and then a home option instead of the hybrid. I thought the VITATV was a cool concept (mini console) but most the games for Vita were only 540p so didn't look that great on anything bigger than about a 20" monitor. Will it get past 150M units....maybe....that depends on how many more years they keep it around and how many more 10M+ selling titles they can push out on it.
Pretty much their entire racing and sports line sits idle other than MarioKart. Wave Race (N64/Cube) is considered by many to be the best jet ski series ever. Fzero as you mentioned, has not had a new entry in nearly 20yrs and would instantly jump to the top of the futuristic racer heap. I have fond memories of Excitebike going all the way back to the early arcade days, but Excitebike64 was awesome and would make a fine blueprint for an updated dirtbike racer. Heck I forgot about code name steam which was a great 3D SRPG experience on 3DS. Kid Icarus, Mother, Mother, Mother....plus all the Mario sports games like Striker and Sluggers lay dormant as they only catered to Golf (overdo) and Tennis (who cared) with mediocre entries (though they did both get better with added content after launch). Nobody has more unused IPs than Nintendo and with their dev model it would be very easy for them to partner with other devs/publishers (like sega and bamco) to help produce the games they don't have the bandwidth to do themselves. What good is hording your IPs when you could be capitalizing them.
Yeh Feb looks weak to be sure, but this is not really much of a diversion from Nintendo's normal behavior. They often wait until the E3 window to announce their major releases for the year and then the games start flowing in the fall and winter. This year is gonna be stacked (for all platforms) so we know we are going to have some crazy packed months coming up.
As for all this cross-gen exclusive back and forth....umm why can't we just say the game is a PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo exclusive? I understand those that want to get picky as in a way definition does matter. The reason why is; what exactly is coming out that I have to have a PS5 (or other system) to play?
As for Nintendo cross gen exclusives.....really there has only been one newly released cross gen Nintendo exclusive that I am aware of and that was BOTW. Remember they did the same thing with TWP. It is a little different story in that with both those tittles the last gen systems were both dead and those games were a swan song for those systems . As for other WiiU ports...they were just that, sure they are Nintendo exclusives but as others have said N ported them because in most cases they are top notch games and almost no one played them do to the WiiU selling like crap. Meanwhile Switch was and is getting plenty of Switch (Nintendo) exclusives while there has been little yet on PS or Xbox that has made people say ' I need to update my console', and if they wanted to could they?
As for all those new gen titles releasing on both current and last generations. It makes sense for a few reasons. First many of these games started development years ago so were intended to run on Gen7 hardware. Second....all these boxes are x86 boxes with varying levels of CPU/GPU/RAM and HDD/SSD configs. The generation gap has been shrinking and the scalability of developments has been increasing. So if a game can run 4K@60FPS on a SeriesX/PS5 then it can likely run in some lower/acceptable output on the older boxes (like 1080p@30). So you just put 10s of millions into developing a game for 4yrs why not release it on as many viable hardware variants as possible? The new systems are selling well, as well as they can with very limited stock availability. Who knows how well the PS5 would be selling if everyone who wants one could get one. So for those reasons expect to keep seeing cross gen exclusives for a while because until $ony and M$ get enough new hardware out there to have a big enough audience to sell their exclusives to then they are going to keep pushing cross gen releases both to increase their software unit sales and to appease their fanbases who are still using last gen because they can't find the new stuff. First party exclusives are incentives to buy new hardware, but when there is no new hardware to be had then why bother pushing it only on the new hardware. As long as a game can run acceptably on last gen I see no problems with cross/gen releases. Someday the supply side issues will get worked out and 10s of Millions of users will finally upgrade to the new boxes but until then expect the 'old' systems to keep getting supported.
I’m not sure I would call it dirty tactics. One of the big reasons M$ languished last generation was because they couldn’t match $ony (or Nintendo) with exclusives and more particularly first party exclusives. If M$ is going to stay competitive in gaming they have to have IPs that differentiate themselves. With their recent acquisitions they now have many iconic IPs and the development houses to produce the content. Plus Activision is a mess and needs a helping hand to right the ship so they were primed for a takeover. The only persons who will be effected are $ony and $ony only fanboys. Too bad right, I can’t play Drake or Ratchet on Xbox so thats why I just own all them all and don’t pick favorites. For those who can’t own them all then you have to pick which system gives you the most of what you want and in that case M$ is lining their library with heavy hitters and only helping their cause.
Yeah I agree with you. There has to be good business ‘sense’ or reason for one major corp to acquire another one. Even though M$ is lined with cash they too have investors and spending billions has to be board approved.
As you said M$ is buying IPs that are already a big part of their platform and having exclusive rights to those IPs helps them and hurts $ony. Plus they supposedly want a bigger ‘family’ library and Act/Bliz has a lot of IP’s like Crash and Skylanders they can use to further their aims in the US.
If anything it really makes the most sense for M$ to try to play nice with N as N is $ony’s competitor in Japan. I would like to see more co-operation as the M$ ports for Switch have been great and their markets aren’t really in opposition. Imagine if we could get a Forza 4 port and Gears or Halo on the go, Also it would be dirt easy to make a cloud client for Switch to be able to play Game Pass cloud games. Nintendo could dangle some carrots to by offering some of their second party stuff. Imagine having the new Mario Rabbids game and Bayo3 on Xbox. $ony fanboys would be crying and both N and M$ fans would be winning.
Some points of interest from past known information. First Nintendo back in 2016 signed a 10yr agreement with NVidia. Nvidia really wanted to break into the console gaming market and Switch has given them their first true sucess. They are not going to stop making X1 as long as they are pushing 20M+ SOCs to Nintendo per year. You can guarantee that N and N are already having discussions about the next SOC and what spec/performance and price point Nintendo is seeking and what NVidia thinks is doable.
Second....before Switch, Iwata and Shiggy both said that they wanted the future platform to be forward scalable/ BC like the mobile arenas are. They said specifically they like how mobile (IOS/Droid) maintained compatibility across hardware and software generations. Given that Switch has been so wildly successful I would think the desire to maintain compatibility would be even higher as you already have a ridiculously huge library and lots of users invested. So much has changed in gaming development with the amount of time and people it takes to create major efforts. The x86 twins would be in horrible shape (early on) if they were not both largely (xbox fully) BC.
Also, and the grafx whores won't want to hear this but the power gains in each generation are lessoning. Again, this is why so many x86 major releases are cross gen and will likely continue that for a few more years. If a PS5 can run something at 4K@60FPS then a PS4Pro can usually run it at 1080/1440@30PFS. Sofware is built to scale these days and that will keep the Switch viable a few more years until the next hardware arrives.
As for reaching 150M+ units. I vote likely. They typically sell almost 1/3 or more of their units in the holiday qtr so they are already over 100M. 2022 is looking like the best software year since 19. They are going to have multiple 10M+ sellers this year (that we know of) and more that we don't know of. 2022 is going to be another 20-25M unit year easy. Ppl talk about the Wii falling off the cliff fast, but remember the last year for Wii saw almost nothing significant in software, and as we all know Wii was essentially an enhanced GC with motion. It was much more of a gimmick where Switch is an elegantly designed hybrid that fits a niche that is going to stay in demand as long as there are gamers who like both portable/home and want the crossover. I still wish they would spin off a Switch Home Mini. They could easily sell it for under $200 and then have a cheap home only option to fill out the line and keep pushing sales.
Dude I have to respectfully disagree on software this year. Yes it was not like 2017 or 2019 but there was some major stuff this year that I was really anticipating. We got some major 3rd party exclusives like Bravely Default 2, Monster Hunter Rise and SMT V (finally), we got some solid stuff from Nintendo like Dread and the major AC 2.0 update and DLC (that rebirthed the game for many fans who had played it out). Got some lesser but still good stuff from N with Pokemon Snap, Pearl/Diamond remake and Mario Golf (got a lot better after added free content from V3 and V4), Wario, Mario Party, Brain Academy, Fatal Frame. And then there were some very solid ports of things like World War Z, Doom Eternal, Dying Light, Ruined King LoL, Life is Strange TC, and MonsterH Stories 2. The indie scene has been unreal all year and so has the legacy port scene with stuff like Blizzard Arcade, CasleV Advance, Beyond a Steel Sky. So not sure what world you are living in (maybe one where you don't like many types of games), but this was a solid year all around and really way better than $ony's year. I would say M$ hit second place with Forza5 and Halo releasing here at the end but overall Switch had a far better year than the entire x86 scene put together. All signs point to 2022 being the best year yet, especially if we get Bayo3, BOTW2, and MP4 all in the same year.
@Poco_Lypso
Really the wild sucess of the Switch over the last nearly 5yrs is actually proving all the 'Nintendo should release an x86 box like $ony and M$' arguments wrong. Part of what Nintendo has tried to offer over time is something unique or different. This differentiation fails sometimes (like VirtualBoy and WiiU) and other times its wildly successful (like Wii, DS, and Switch).
I see zero value in the market to them trying to be like everyone else. $ony has dominated the home console segment for many cycles now with M$ struggling to stay relevant at times, especially on a global stage as M$ has really only ever outsold $ony in the US. Personally I hope Nintendo moves on to Super Switch Pro 2.0 because there is nothing else like Switch in the market being a portable hybrid and I love the form factor as it is really the system I always wanted being both a portable and home gamer. Now I just want a more powerful version of the same thing. To me if you want the best of both worlds (minus Sony exclusives) then get a Switch and a Series S with Game pass. Thats the route I went for now as I haven't been able to find a ps5 to save my life this year and really don't care because I have a ps4pro with SSD and still have a big backlog to catch up on.
Exclusives happen people so live with it...LoL. I think it was a bold move for M$ to drop the dough and pick up major devs/Publishers like Bethseda and BioWare. Xbox will clearly be the home of top Western RPGs. As to those whining, Bethseda has nothing to say about what platforms they will release for now that they have been acquired and M$ owes $ony or Nintendo gamers nothing, they just spent 7.5B to acquire these major IPs why would they waste their money/efforts by allowing these games to be multiplatform?
@TSR3
My guess it will run fine on Series S......I think with proper optimization Series S runs pretty much everything about as well as X but at 1080p/1440p. Two solid examples are MS Flight Sim. Which takes a seriously well equipped PC to play properly and runs wonderfully on S and then the just released Forza 5 looks stellar and runs smooth as butter on S. With Bethseda games being elusive now the games should be well optimized for both models. I just bought an S a few weeks back and have to say I am really impressed by everything from the form factor to the performance. My only gripe is the 512GB SSD fills up fast. Hopefully those expansion SSD cards will come down in price next year (they will).
@TimGibsonPBS
Really what M$ is doing is pretty brilliant. The generations are starting to melt together and since going x86 there really isn't as big a gap between generations as there used to be. There is so much great content from the last generation and not everyone has gotten to it all. I liked that they pushed the X/S optimization tools out to Devs and encouraged them to enhance their old games. It's actually greatly improved some last gen titles making them worth revisiting. One example is Ark Survival. That game ran like total poo on pretty much everything but a high spec PC. It runs wonderfully on S/X even giving a smooth 60fps @1080p on S. Series S with GPU is the best deal in gaming. You get everything you could want to keep yourself busy playing current gen, last gen, lots of Indies, and day one releases for $15 a month. I have never been a big subscription service fan but GPU is winning me over. Heck I got in even cheaper loading up on GOLD for $50 a year and then using the $1 offer to upgrade my account to GPU. So I locked in 3yrs of GPU for $4 a month.....yeah that's a heck of a lot of gaming for chump change.
I got one last year near Xmas for the wife so I could get her off my OG Switch as she is an AC junkie. It really is a nice edition with the etched back and pastel joycons. The dock is sharp as well. I only wish it had AC bundled with it but she had the Cart. Thankfully they made the transfer tool so I could move her island and get my Switch back plus I use her joycons as she plays with a powerA Cube controller for that authentic retro feel. She is so jazzed for the 2.0 update and DLC. If N still has a lot of these in the US I wish they would add a code to the box for the game and make it a true bundle.
Well lets just wait and see what the final product looks/plays like. If you are concerned then don’t worry because DF will surely have deep dives and comparison vids. If the frame rate is solid that is the most important factor IMO. A lot of Switch ports have made sensible choices on what is cut and what is kept and turned out solid. They don’t always look pretty in stills because the cuts are so glaring but when in motion these cuts are less impactful for many gamers, especially on the portable screen. I love the hybrid concept but I too wish we could get more cross save support in compilations and other multiplats as there are only a few with PC.
As to the Switches hardware….last I knew Nvidia is still using TegraX1 for Shield though it is clocked up and has more ram. That is the problem ppl. There is really not a new chipset from Nvidia for N to use yet. The panicdemic has screwed so much up. I think we’ll get a new Switch but if they want to make a true successor they need a new SoC and not just an amped up X1.
As to these ‘iphone’ gamers….you go ahead and put lots of hours playing power intensive games on your phone. Your gonna kill your battery and shorten your phones life. The issue is thermals. Phones are passive cooled and not very well. When any mobile SOC gets hot it throttles making it hard to guarantee performance. They aren’t made to play high draw games for hours on end. Plus iPhones still using fixed memory so its hard to have everything you want and a games library. Last is phone users will never pay top price for games….meaning quality will vary greatly and largely suck.
I guess we are all ‘used’ to 3rd party skimping on Carts. They all use the 8GB cart and the rest is download. Its a price issue because the 8gb is cheap for them but again the scamdemic screwed the normal evolution of the media keeping prices for the larger carts higher than they should be. I guess we should be thankful it hasn’t prevented devs from publishing their games. Pretty much all the compilation ports have done this. Thankfully SD always cheap but even they have had prices mostly frozen since you guessed it the propagandemic.
Switch is having a great run. It will top Wii soon and if it stays around 2 more years without a major revision it could top DS. It could happen as next year is loaded and could be its best year yet release wise.
I was going to respond the same way....the system is going to be their most successful ever getting over 100M units likely by this XMAS and still likely having 2 more full years before the next thing is announced. They still have a ways to go to pass DS but they likely get there. There is literally no reason for Nintendo to release an x86 home box. Why bother? If you want x86 then buy a ps5/XBSX or get a decent gaming PC. The market in no way needs another x86 option and seeing that Nintendo lags well behind in online services/quality what real bonus would there be getting an x86 Nintendo box? Nintendo knows their market and knows where they need to be which is uncontested in the portable/hybrid space. People complain that the TegraX1 is too weak and old but the fact is there is still not a better/newer mobile gaming SOC from Nvidia or anyone. The panicdemic and chip shortages have ***** everything in gaming and tech but once Nvidia shows a new vastly upgraded SOC you can bet it will be featured in Nintendo's next device. They signed a 10yrs partnership when they started with Switch so surely they expected that to exceed one generation. Heck if you want to stay on a budget then a $300 switch and a $300 XBSS will have you playing just about everything you could want other than Sony's exclusives.
I have to laugh because these type of 'Is Nintendo hardware X powerful enough' threads always create a lot of posts and strong feelings. First....who the heck doesn't want something more powerful than we currently have, always? If you are a core gamer you always want the next thing and you always hope its both BC and plays old games better. So sure bring on the Super Switch Pro 2.0 and I will buy it day one.
As for the current situation....geez ppl the Switch is getting a ***** ton of ports and its getting games/franchises that never saw the light of day on Nintendo. People complain about some of the bad ports, but there are many, many really good ones. Ports from x86 generation that are amazing. I mean getting games like Witcher3, Doom, NBA2K all running and looking nice on Switch is amazing...meanwhile many other last gen ports are quite good and performing acceptably.
Ports are all about software publishers extending the life cycle and profits of popular IPs....the Switch is getting ports because it has sold close to 100M units and is still going strong. Specialist port companies have evolved like Saber and PanicB specifically because they can shoehorn games that shouldn't be possible onto the platform. As for those 'worried' that ports will stop flowing.....all development now is being done to highly scale. Devs are going to continue to support older x86 platforms for a while (ps4/xb1/PC) so games are being made to scale and 'tricks' like dynamic resolution allow games to come to weaker hardware and still run acceptably.
My last point and I make this often......there is currently no true successor to the X1 chipset. Nvidia is surely cooking up something and with the success they have had with Switch surely they are working with Nintendo to some degree to develop the next great mobile SOC. The panicdemic and world chip shortages surely slowed down the development of new SOCs. So when we see Nvidia announcing a new Tegra SOC then I would expect a new Switch announcement to follow. So there is no new Switch currently because there is no chipset to power it, a PRO using X1 could implement higher clocks and more RAM but that wouldn't really provide the punch required to give a noticeably upgraded experience. Most console cycles are lasting 7-8yrs now with both the 2013 x86 boxes still going strong and getting games even after the release of newer x86 consoles last year. If that trend holds then we shouldn't expect the Switch's successor until at lease 2024.
Put me in the 'I think this is a scummy practice' camp. Look I am fine with paid DLC, but I mostly feel it should truly expand the scope or story of the game and seek to extend the primary products shelf life. So Day1 (unless its free pre order type stuff) just seems stupid to me. Its like putting out a flashing sign saying 'This game is not complete so spend more'. So this has been a day one purchase for me since it was announced ummm like forever ago, but I will skip the DLC until later in the products life to see if its something I really need or expands the game meaningfully.
Wow the 3 Switch models still moved 75K units while the PS5 moved 18.5K units. I would say the Switch is still flying high and will likely win the XMAS battles again this year (worldwide). I have to wonder how Sony is moving any units when they never seem to be available @ street retail or online. Its frustrating as I prefer PS over XB but I went XBSS first this generation because I could find one....my trusty old PS4pro is still getting the job done so I likely won't bother with PS5 until next holiday season.
Well it will be interesting to see if PS5 keeps the throne or if its a one month wonder. Really I don't know the how the PS5 can be outselling anything when there is just no stock to be found anywhere. I typically buy a system a year (whether I need it or not...LoL) so was looking in the last few weeks to see if I could find anything. I have not found a single ps5 (either model) or a Series X......fortunately some Series S stock hit the last few days and I got a steal on game pass ultimate ($4per month for 3yrs) so decided to take an S so I could start enjoying my subscription. I really like the S....great value and great form factor. Very good for those that don't care about full 4K. Enjoying Psychonauts 2 and Plague tale and getting ready for Forza 5 and Halo. I will eventually buy a ps5 (disc) because I have about 50 ps4 disc games and like Sony's exclusives but for now they can go rot in the corner until they improve their stock situation.
Man everything about this game is looking great. This is by far my most anticipated game of the year. Its been a long long time since I played SMT IV on 3DS.....this looks like the game that will make people forget Persona 4/5 never made it to Switch.
Nintendo is operating in a fairly wide open niche in that it doesn't look like $ony has any interest in making another portable, and M$ has never had any interest and their recent collaborations with Nintendo (porting some of their indy games) seems to indicate they have no future plans. Everyone else is just a wanna be other than Apple.....who has the money, mobile chipsets and developer talent to make some type of a competitor. The problem is their software model, which is always been all digital and you would never see a game selling on an IOS device for $60+.....so they could likely make some nice hardware but they aren't getting AAA ports or anything close to Nintendo first party games without a premium price point for software. Add to that, other than Apple, who really develops top end Mobile chipsets other than NVidia.....Nintendo is likely waiting for NVidia's true replacement to the X1 and with the wild success they have had with NVidia they will surely be first in line to use any new Mobile gaming SOC. So N has had no real competitor in the hybrid/portable market this generation and I am not sure they will have one any time soon, which is why they can let Switch run a long 8yrs type cycle without much fear of losing their place as the market leader.
I usually buy or upgrade some game system every year and have always played both portable and console. I already have a launch switch, a pokemon lite switch and then bought the wife an AC bundle last xmas (to get her off my launch model)…so I would have gone for a pro all the way but OLED isn’t too enticing. I think with three SKUs and better availability the Switch will win the holidays again.
I traded my ps4 for a pro holiday of 18 and still have a huge backlog….I wouldn’t mind a ps5 but haven't seen one at retail all year….eventually I will get one but man they are bulky, not a fan of the design. Right now its just a superior ps4 player but when theres more next gen games I’ll want one.
I really like M$ direction this generation. I think if you are gaming on a budget and don’t collect media then Series S with game pass is a great deal. $300 for a next gen x86 box and $15 a month for a library of 4 generations of xbox (and pc and cloud/droid) games is a deal. I think the S will pick up steam as regular stock levels increase and more next gen games make it to gamepass.
I sort of agree with you….the dual screen ‘in the cockpit’ control scheme was difficult to master but when you did playing the game had great immersion and was quite exhilarating. Its one of those games like high speed racers that takes a lot of visual attention and reflex. Add to that the controls weren’t quite right and maybe couldn’t have been and most people just gave up on it.
Still I thought the game looked really good and this might be a title worth porting, giving it a more traditional control scheme and improving the ‘boring’ parts.
I really do love Star Fox Adventures and wish they would make a game that incorporated both 3rd person open world adventure with vehicle combat play….star fox is such a cool IP and they could be doing so much more with it than a port of zero if they had the motivation.
I really doubt this will happen and here is why.......the Switch is still selling like mad and their are chip shortages throughout the world and all industries. So why make a price drop under those circumstances?
Also......I guess its possible that the OLED and LCD Switches could stay around for a while as it would give Nintendo two different screens to use which might help with keeping stock on the shelves, but it doesn't seem likely. My guess is once the current in the distribution chain Switch LCD models dry up then we will only see the OLED models.
In typical Nintendo fashion I think it is more likely they use remaining Switch LCD models to create holiday bundles. So standard model stays $299 but you get a game bundled while the OLED model sticks at $349 with no software bundled.
Time will tell but to all those saying $50 isn't worth it.....well that depends.....if you handheld game a lot and want something bright enough to play in the sun, then yeah $50 more for OLED is well worth it. Lets not forget you get that great LAN port on the dock (USB adapter is what $20) and you get 64GB NAND instead of 32GB.....$50 is not that much to pay, although I think after the LCD models are gone the OLED goes to $299
I love how you said the WiiU was a bit rubish......it was/is. OMG I was just laughing out loud when I saw that. The hardware and OS really were week. I mean everything in the OS was sluggish and painfully slow. So conceptually it just didn't fly (dual screen), the overall hardware was wimpy and no stronger than a ps3 which predated it by years. So yeah it kind of was rubbish.
The best thing about the WiiU at the time was some of the quality exclusives (mostly all ported to Switch now) and then there were actually a few 3rd party games that did really nice things with dual screens.....The excellent DuesEX port comes to mind and also the Splinter Cell BL port...they both did some cool and meaningful things with the GP but for me it was more about just using it for offscreen play which the Switch gives us that as well as making it untethered.
The absolute best thing you can do with a WiiU is mod it because then it becomes a legacy machine monster. Playing Cube games on the gamepad looks fabulous and Nintendo were idiots for never releasing Cube VC as the damned hardware plays it natively so it would have cost them little to nothing to put GC on WiiU but they whiffed and left it to the hackers. Still a modded WiiU gives you Wiiu/Wii/GC/N64/SNES/NES/GBC/GBA/DS so basically Nintendo's entire library pre 3DS/Switch can be played on a modded WiiU which is at least something. Still the Switch is light years better and a modded Switch is even better yet.
Dude.....I find some of your takes to be a bit off. First FE3H is not using anything like 3DS assets......it even looks way better than the GC/WII FE games which were the last console ones. You seem to want to throw out the fact that the series was completely modernized and the gameboard look/feel as well as the other 'new' RPG elements where never seen before in any version.
Then you act like AC was met to mixed reception....please the game sold 30M+ copies. A crap game that no one likes does not sell like that. Again I played AC on the GC back in the day and anyone saying that AC NH isn't a more depthful and complex game has amnesia. There was no crafting in the first game, there were no terraforming tools that allowed you to custom design your island.
Then some of the best 'exclusives' you just sluff off because you haven't played them. Luigi's 3 is awesome, bests the earlier entries by far. Xeno2 one of the best JRPGs out there and had a stand alone DLC that changed the combat mechanics meaningfully, and Astral Chain....its great...take the combat style of Bayo expand it, and then just wrap a much cooler concept around it for a game.
Every system since the x86 generation (ps4/xb1) has had a crap load of ports, re-releases and re-masters. That is the environment we now live in. New AAA efforts costs more than ever to develop, and several high cost flops (Fallout76, Cyberpunk, MassAndromoda) have made a lot publishers squeamish on investing in new stuff so many are taking the safe road and polishing up old stuff that was super successful to give it a run with newer audiences. So its not really fair to say if Nintendo would stop doing this other stuff and concentrate on new only, because that is just not the environment were in. Also the Switch sits in a unique spot being the first and only portable that has the juice to play a lot of games that used to be console only. I mean who didn't want something like Ni No Kuni or Skyrim on the go? So thankfully its wild sales success has allowed so many great games from many previous generations to be ported or remastered.
I will end saying....I too wish Nintendo would bring back or focus on some long forgotten franchises and give them the modernization treatment that they gave Zelda, MarioO, FE, and AC...I really wish they would give some love to their great racing games.....FZero (of course), but WaveRace and ExciteBike64 were also great. I too would love to see another 3D Donkey Kong and bringing back some of the other Mario Sports titles like strikers and sluggers.
Overall the Switch is a dream with plenty of good new content and lots of old stuff that deserved to be seen on a portable. I have owned just about every system ever made (console and portable) and for my money and the utilization I have gotten out of it, the Switch is tops.
Ok so most of what I would say has been said but I will make a few points in an unspecific response.
Only one other post mentioned it but please.....why is Mark of The Ninja not on here? This is a stealth platform game but fits as well in the MV genre as most others on the list. Any way you slice it, it is one of the best games of its type. Great art style, decent enough story, incredible level design, and great replay-abilty as you unlock the Ninja styles each one warrants a complete playthrough and produces a different play style.
My personal favorites (beyond Mark) are: SteamDig2, Iconoclasts, Hollow Knight and OwlBoy.
Now to those that just can't stand the upcoming price of Dread. First, don't buy it, or wait (likely well into next year) and get a discount. Still its not fair to just compare it too top Indy productions as the cost of production is likely no where in the same ball park nor will the end product. What Indy game can even come close in quality, animation and overall build to DK Tropical Freeze......not any really.....so you know Dread will be done to a similar high quality and looks like it has a fair bit of CGI cut scenes (which none of the Indy games have). Then there are those who are 'worried' it won't sell well. That's probably the same crowd that thought Switch @ $300 was gonna doom it....ummm 90M units later I guess the price point was good? With the thirst for this game (remember this was long ago planned and left on the cutting board), with the Switch's ridiculously large base and with the pre holiday window release I think its going to do quite fine....5M minimum.
GTA V has about the greatest staying power of any game that doesn't have an N logo on it. I too wonder who the hell is buying this game as you would think its far surpassed its saturation point. Honestly I just think RockStar are dopey a$$ hats for not porting it to Switch. The game has such a huge following you know it would not only sell well on Switch, it would probably help push systems (especially if they did cross save) because so many diehards would probably buy a Switch just to play GTA V on the go.
Uhggg....OK so I am not as rumor adverse as some but I think the rumor mill took a serious hit when the Switch OLED was announced and all the talk about Pro slinked back under the rock that it came from. This MP Trilogy rumor is just worn out. How many people have been pushing this for more than a few years? Why push it now? Dread is announced and is coming soon. No way in Hades (love that game) N would release MP Trilogy before a finished and announced Dread game hits. I never played some of the Wii's best games because of motion controls....so Zelda_SS HD has been a treat, and honestly they improved the motion controls with the joycons, so I am actually playing it mostly with motion controls, but I like having the option to play it with normal controls. Same thing with Mario Galaxy port.....OK with motion but thankful to have button option. So I missed MP3 and would love to get that with improved joycon motion option but also button option. Taking out the excellent Samus Returns on 3DS, the series has been dormant for a long time. Bringing out the long thought to be dead, Dread is a great way to bring the series back into into the light and bring it back in its original 2D form. If MPT done, then N is surely waiting to release it as a lead up to MP4. Time will tell but all we know for now is we get Dread and MP4 is in development.....I'm busy trying to replay all the 2D Mets before Dread gets here this fall so no need for MPT until I get my 2D fix on.
Yeah not sure why the ultra secrecy on Bayo3.....I mean either its progressing in which case they should have something to throw into a trailer to show off, or its 'shelved' as they work on other projects. I guess its the longgggggg lead times on so many Switch announcements that have been frustrating. SMT V was announced at launch and we got little to nothing for years and now its finally coming 4.5yrs after launch. You can bet your mushroom kingdom that BOTW2 was being worked on immediately after BOTW wrapped (or even before) so its likely been going 4yr+, Bayo3, same, announced in 2017 nothing to be seen. MP4 announced that it was trashed and restarted many years ago but nothing to show. Honestly we shouldn't be surprised by these things. Look at UBI's BGE 2.....rumored for years, officially announced and shown a little CG two years ago, still crickets on it as it likely will now be pushed out so far it will be ps5/XBsX. I mean they just brought back a 19yr old idea Metroid Dread that was supposed to be released in 2006. The last guardian (ICO 3) was in development so long, and thought to be dead more than once, eventually came (to mixed reviews). What I don't understand is why Devs don't expand their team sizes more to complete games sooner? Maybe there just isn't a big enough talent pool in games development to do that, but from an investor standpoint for companies with lots of cash on hand (Nintendo) why not do it? A game is going to have a budget and a budgeted amount of man hours, more people means condensed schedule, condensed schedule means game is finished sooner and the company can start selling and recouping its investment. I will say Nintendo is doing a lot better by farming our certain games or parts of games to other prominent dev teams. Still I wish they would do more of it, Once upon a time Sega made a great FZERO game for Cube, a total classic. What I don't get is you have a hot property that everyone would love to see return, you don't have the bandwidth to do it yourself, why not farm it out to a quality partner? Alas we are getting to point where Nintendo has put out at least one game from most of their major IPs on Switch so now maybe they will give some love to their more neglected franchises. I want the racing trifecta.....Fzero, Excitebike, Wave Race all brought back and modernized....A guy can dream.
Well given what we have seen prior to today this was not a bad showing for the Switch. I am super excited about a new 2D Metroid and to pick up the old series with the long abandoned Dread is just so cool. Sticking with the way back machine theme we also get an Advanced War Reboot....I can not believe they have left that series untouched for so long and never put one out on 3DS. I think the the overall lineup is solid this year with some fun couch play games like MP and Wario coming . Finally we get a deeper look at SMT V and it looks great and I can hardly wait for 22 to get Mario+Rabbids (loved the first one and as a big 4x4 SRPG fan interested to see how they will implement the cell-free movement dynamic and how it will affect the gameplay strategy).
The biggest suprise/let down was no mention of a major holiday release from Nintendo. Maybe they didn't want to stomp on all the great stuff coming this summer/fall and will drop something big for Xmas before the end of the year. Generally the trend for Switch has been multiple 1st party releases after E3 thru fall but then something big for Xmas....could it be Bayo3 or maybe the rumored DK game? Not sure but I suspect we will get something and I also think we will get one or maybe a collection for Zelda (I want OOT, TWP, WW). I guess we will never get a MP trilogy or maybe they will wait and release that closer to when MP4 is coming.
Kudos fellow Mark of the Ninja fan.....I love that game, played it thru multiple times, first on X360, then PC, then Switch. That is one of my favorite 2D Platform games ever and has great replay as you unlock the various Ninja styles and then the game plays very differently with each one. I really wish we would see a sequel to Mark but Klei been busy with other stuff like Griftlands (which I haven't tried yet but like card RPGs so expect to).
This new (old) Metroid looks dope. I like the work Merc_Steam has done with the Samus Returns remake and the CastleV 3DS game (that too many people seemed to hate).
Surprise but this is actually a substantive and informative article here on NL. I think the article greatly serves the purpose of informing the reader the type of iterations Nintendo has offered on previous in generation updates.
For me the top three are the GPA SP....geez people we did not have a lit screen on gb before this little marvel. The clamshell was very significant as well and I wish somehow N would give us a Switch clamshell....but the light was easily the biggest upgrade everyone wanted for years. Next is the DS Lite....amazing the original DS didn’t sink the line. It was clunky and ugly and had the weakest light they could find. The Lite fixed all that giving a solid backlight, streamlined clamshell and better battery. My 3rd is a tie......either the 3ds XL or New 3DS.....The XL is awesome...giving us those big bright screens and better battery life and balance were big upgrades over the launch....but it was big so people with smaller hands may not have liked it. Sadly the N3DS standard did not get widespread distribution. It is the slickest and nicest 3DS design being compact and thin and using The interchangeable plates which are so N and have gotten really pricey as time passes.
So if we take these past in gen updates as our guide we can surmise whats coming with the ‘next’ Switch. We probably get that bigger (edgeless) brighter OLED screen. I just don’t see a mystery new SOC appearing so at best we get an amped up X1 which Mariko could easily deliver and keep the thermals reasonable, maybe more RAM and likely more NAND (128gb). I personally hope the new unit is dock and joycon compatible so it can exist in the ecosystem with our existing gear. We shall see but a lighter, better screen, slightly smoother (ram/clocks) unit is what the past would indicate N is going to give us.
Actually it sort of was an upgraded Wii with HD....LoL....no seriously the WiiU maintained the same powerPC architecture that both the NGC and the Wii used. It was just an upgraded PPC CPU with a faster bus and better GPU. This is why the unit is fully backwards compatible with Wii (and GC if you mod it).
Never the less Nintendo did bomb the messaging and marketing of the WiiU and both confused consumers but also tried to play off the success of Wii which had already wound down two years before WiiU launch (so the brand was already faded). Add to that the fact that the concept (dual screen TV gaming) just wasn't that well understood, implemented, or accepted and what you get is NGC 2.0....a system with some really great games but commercially it was a failure.
Come on people.....Look at Nintendo's recent comments (this year) and that will indicate their trajectory. They said the Switch is still in its prime....meaning they are not going to take a system that has sold over 80M and they predicted would sell 26M more this fiscal year and just piss on it by offering something new that splits the base. It will more sensibly fit within the Switch ecosystem.
They said prior to the Switch launch that they wanted to create a gaming platform that was more like mobile in that multiple iterations and 'generations' of hardware could run the same software.
They signed a 10yr deal with NVIDIA, have now made NVIDIA wildly successful in the console gaming arena (which NV was desperately trying to do for years) and then went with the well established and reliable X1. DLSS was probably designed with Nintendo in mind as its a tech that allows impressive super sampling while keeping the CPU/GPU power minimal.
So no....I don't believe they are going to fracture their own market. The Switch has already 'trained' developers to get their games to run at different resolutions and largely ushered in the era of dynamic scaling resolution. Just expect more of the same. A game comes out, runs in 540p-720p in handheld, runs in 720-1080p in docked, maybe Super Switch (I like that) can run the games at current docked resolutions in handheld and then hit true 1080P with DLSS faking 4K in docked. So the same game is just going to run in different resolution on different devices. At this point in the gaming tech power proposition it takes big leaps to make fairly small jumps in visible output. There is not going to be a big leap in Switch because where is the mobile SOC (that would already have to be developed and in production) out there that would be needed to produce a true leap?
Being an evil modder I have played extensively with overclocking on my OG Switch (particularly docked). Many Switch games are 'borderline' for the current hardware and just upping the X1 clocks to max can make a noticeable difference in games like BOTW or others that use dynamic scaling. So even if they just used the new Mariko X1 and boosted clocks to closer to max users will see some nice improvements with existing games.
I would expect something like that.....revised X1 with higher clocks and DLSS imbedded. Bigger brighter OLED screen, maybe a bump in system ram (to accommodate higher texture counts for DLSS supporting games), hopefully more NAND memory (32GB is pathetic....128/256GB would be better). It would be really nice if it is dock and joycon compatible with current models. I don't think they are going to overly distort their price point either. Maybe $350 but I would be surprised if they go much higher as again they predicted 26M unit sales based on the current price structure. I hope the rumors are true but either way I more hope that we get some of the major developments we know have been in the cooker.
Uhgg....why do I have such a bad feeling about this. EA track record when it comes to acquiring studios to help make them more successful is rotten. Too many examples to name and most of you already did anyways. Many of you mentioned F1 but my favorite series of theirs' is by far Dirt....Dirt 2, Dirt 3, Dirt 4, Dirt Rally and Dirt Rally 2 all excellent games and have given my Logitech wheel a real workout on PS3 and PC over the years. I was hoping we would get some Dirt game on Switch but with EA now in the mix and their tepid support for Switch, I expect it will never happen.
I am guessing its analytics based on user surveys or canvasing....but another data point could be how many people have family accounts or use their NNID to log in on multiple machines.
I am also in the club with a launch Switch, a pokemon switch lite and an AC bundle for the wife this last xmas.
I would buy a pro in a second, but what I would equally like to see is a mini-console....they could sell it for $149 and give people a cheaper TV only option....problem is chip shortages this year will likely prevent any new iterations.
Ha....this could have only gone worse if the guy presently worked for EA..........this is what we get living in a world full of cancel culture and snowflakes. People get offended way too easily, then feel their grievance is real, then want to lash out at those that offended them, then want them gone, as to never offend them again. Its stupid, and the spoiled zombies perpetuating it are stupid, but it isn't new and if you haven't toughened up your skin yet then best to just lay low and say nothing. I got tired of waiting and after modding my WiiU replayed the first two on my gamepad (which looked awesome). The one I have never played MP3 I am still resisting because of motion control. I hope they just announce an HD remake of Other M (sarc) as that will surely please everyone and shut them up until 2025 when MP4 get released on Super Switch Pro 2.5. Hey good news though is at least this isn't Konami and we will eventually see more of Samus, not sure we can say the same for Snake or the Belmonts.
Well....thankfully its back, and I wish it was going to be a live event (I mean they just ran the Kentucky derby with 60k fans in attendance and the NFL Draft was packed as well). I just miss seeing live events and its seems as even though we have a vaccine and the virus is in decline, the powers that be seem to never want to let things get back to normal.....ok off point rant over..... Nintendo themselves have repeatedly said they had disrupted development and release cycles and that they had things that were 2020 release that were held back. I would say the 5th year of your wildly successful system would be an ideal time to fire your cannons and get those system sellers out there to the 100m+ Switch user base expected by the end of this year. Why does everyone think BOTW2 wouldn't be ready....come on I am sure this game started development about the second the first one finished. So a game that is using an existing engine and many recycled assets takes more than 4yrs to develop? This is Nintendo so anything could theoretically take forever to make but just seems like this will be the year......same thing for Bayo3....announced back in 2017 and nowhere to be seen? MP4 is more of a stretch as that game essentially got canned and re-started with a different Dev team so that would surprise me. What I personally would like is to see some release dates for some of the majors and then a few shadow drop announcements (Please MP trilogy or Zelda Trilogy (OoT, WW, TWP)).....and then maybe some major announcements for next year (like MP4 footage or a FE 3H follow up). As for other publishers.....Ubi has had some stuff in the oven for a long time like BGE and Skull and Xbones. EA does almost nothing I care about but getting a DA trilogy or ME trilogy port on Switch would be awesome and really hasn't the Switch sold well enough to deserve a Madden game? It will be interesting to see what (if anything) M$ says about their evil plans for Bethesda......lastly what about SMT V....another game in development limbo as they waste their time giving us Persona Strikers
Well.....so we'll get OLED tech for sure.....maybe....LoL....look OLED is OK but lets remember this tech has been around a while and it does have some advantages but it also has some drawbacks. I liked its vibrancy on my OG Vita but the black levels seemed high making a lot of games look overly contrasty (if that's a word). As for everyone wishing for a 'super dock'. I am not sure how this could work, unless the dock contained the entire SoC plus the system's RAM. The USB3 bus is not a full speed bus and just isn't going to move GPU/CPU data thru it. If they essentially made the pro the dock, then you would only be moving data from the game cart and sd card thru the USB3 bus which would be more possible. This could produce the better output for the TV but is that really all that anyone wants 4yrs+ after the original came out?
As others have said....the Switch just came off its best fiscal year and sold 28M units......why mess with that? They projected 25M for this fiscal year which will then put the system's (all models) lifetime sales over 110M.....surpassing all other N systems except the DS. They are not going to announce a Pro unless they can be ready to ship it in mass quantities and given the current state of chip shortages, as well as distribution and retail issues, they aren't going to do anything stupid to step on the insane sales of the current SKUs. I would just be happy to see them get back to releasing some of the long awaited games we know they are working on .
The detail that keeps running thru my mind was the rumor that Nintendo is anticipating unit sales of 30m this fiscal year, yet their now official forecast is calling for 25m units. Well that official forecast van only include current SKUs....so maybe those other anticipated units are the expected Pro sales. I guess one can dream....LoL.....still lots of stuff software wise in the oven for a long time...I think we get Bayo3 as the big fall release and then BOTW2 for Xmas.

Re: Reggie: Nintendo's Transition From Switch Will Be A "Significant Challenge"
@dimi
Re: Reggie: Nintendo's Transition From Switch Will Be A "Significant Challenge"
@brunojenso
Re: Feature: Will We Finally See These Games In The Not-E3 Nintendo Direct?
@NintendoWife
Hopefully they have learned their lesson which is launch with something major,have a great first year of releases slated and keep engaging and promoting 3rd party partners. As you said Wii really didn’t move huge units of very many titles, by comparison Switch is a goldmine for publishers.
@IronMan30
Re: Atlus Wants To Know If You Would Like More Nintendo Switch Games
@ktej75
I wholeheartedly agree with your statement…seriously Switch is being so ignored by some corps, particularly the jap region baffles me.
Re: Atlus Wants To Know If You Would Like More Nintendo Switch Games
I will just say this for everyone here…..What the he!! Altus, You can just go F off. Ok there I feel better. Thankfully SMT V was excellent. I mean it took forever but it is a great Altus game. Still they keep giving these surveys when they know what the answers are. Yes Altus we want more ports, and guess what dumbos we are now a user base of over 100M users….ummm 20M more than the last time you asked. For the 10000000000 time we want P5, P4G and P3FES and then other stuff (I like devil survivor) too. Hopefully they get the message but I won’t hold my breath.
Re: Here Are The Top Ten Best-Selling Nintendo Switch Games As Of March 2022
@popey1980
Re: Nintendo Switch Has Now Sold Over 107 Million Units
@UltimateOtaku91 GBA was a thing at the same time as the GC so you would be looking at a little over 102M units combined for that generation. They will never top the DS/Wii combo though selling over 250M units combined those were high times. Since the Switch Light the Switch does have an official portable only model to go with the hybrid models. What I wish they would release before the next generation is a Switch mini console (like the VitaTV). They could bundle that with a pro controller and sell it for $149 to give users a cheap home only option.....I would buy one, but hey I love mini consoles.
Re: Mini Review: Imp Of The Sun - Flickers Of Flair In A Well-Designed Metroidvania
Re: Sorry, Switch Owners Won't Be Getting Cross-Play For FIFA 23
Brilliant.
Re: 'MLB The Show 22' Aims To Deliver 30FPS On Switch After Disappointing Tech Test
Re: MLB The Show 22 Gets Its First Switch Gameplay Trailer
Re: Microsoft Wants Call Of Duty On Switch, Along With Other "Popular" Activision Blizzard Games
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Sticks With Mario Kart 8 Through 2023, But What About Switch?
Re: Switch Outsells Wii And PlayStation, Passes 100 Million Faster Than Any Other Home Console
Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Release Windows For Major Upcoming Switch Games
@bluemujika
Re: Video: 9 Exciting New Games Coming To Nintendo Switch In February 2022
Re: Talking Point: Don't Worry, Microsoft Probably Isn't Going To Buy Nintendo - Here's Why
@earthinheritor
Re: Talking Point: Don't Worry, Microsoft Probably Isn't Going To Buy Nintendo - Here's Why
@Jeronan
Re: Talking Point: As Lifetime Switch Sales Jostle With The Mighty Wii, Can It Possibly Catch DS?
Re: Switch Just Enjoyed Its Best-Ever Hardware And Software Sales Week Across Europe
@rockodoodle
@Poco_Lypso
Re: Phil Spencer: Elder Scrolls 6's Xbox Exclusivity Isn't About "Punishing" Other Platforms
@TSR3
@TimGibsonPBS
Re: The Gorgeous Animal Crossing Switch Is Being Restocked, In Australia At Least
Re: Gallery: Rockstar Shares First Screenshots Of The GTA Trilogy For Nintendo Switch
Re: Review: Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy: Cloud Version - A Disastrous Way To Play A Great Game
@kobashi100
Re: "I Don't Think The Switch Needs A More Powerful Version" Says 'World War Z' Lead Designer
Re: Shin Megami Tensei V Gets Day One Paid DLC And Digital Deluxe Edition
Put me in the 'I think this is a scummy practice' camp. Look I am fine with paid DLC, but I mostly feel it should truly expand the scope or story of the game and seek to extend the primary products shelf life. So Day1 (unless its free pre order type stuff) just seems stupid to me. Its like putting out a flashing sign saying 'This game is not complete so spend more'. So this has been a day one purchase for me since it was announced ummm like forever ago, but I will skip the DLC until later in the products life to see if its something I really need or expands the game meaningfully.
Re: Japanese Charts: Metroid Dread Slips Down To Second, Switch OLED Leads Hardware Listings
Re: For The First Time In 33 Months, Switch Wasn't The US' Best-Selling Console In September
Re: Here's Shin Megami Tensei V's First English Dub Trailer And Cast List
Man everything about this game is looking great. This is by far my most anticipated game of the year. Its been a long long time since I played SMT IV on 3DS.....this looks like the game that will make people forget Persona 4/5 never made it to Switch.
Re: Talking Point: The Switch Is Following Nintendo's Successful Portable Playbook
@BloodNinja
Re: Talking Point: Switch Vs. PS5 And Xbox - Nintendo Preps For The Holidays With A New SKU And European Price Cut
Re: Platinum Would "Definitely" Port Star Fox Zero To Switch, If Given The Opportunity
@Znake
Re: Rumour: Switch Will Reportedly Receive A Price Cut Ahead Of The OLED Model's Launch
Lets not forget you get that great LAN port on the dock (USB adapter is what $20) and you get 64GB NAND instead of 32GB.....$50 is not that much to pay, although I think after the LCD models are gone the OLED goes to $299
Re: 10 Best Wii U-To-Nintendo Switch Ports
@The_New_Butler
Re: 10 Best Wii U-To-Nintendo Switch Ports
@NintendoArchive
Re: Best Nintendo Switch Metroidvania Games
Re: UK Charts: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Soars Straight To Number One
@Lordplops
Re: Rumour: Metroid Prime Trilogy For Switch Ready To Go, According To Industry Insider
Re: Hideki Kamiya Shares Irritation At Speculation Over Bayonetta 3
Re: Roundup: Here's What Was Revealed In Nintendo Direct E3 2021
Re: Metroid 5 Is Coming To Switch As Metroid Dread, And It's 2D
@outsider83
Re: Feature: Nintendo Hardware Refreshes Through The Ages
Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch 'Pro' Reveal Expected Before E3, Out This Year
@Sinton
Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch 'Pro' Reveal Expected Before E3, Out This Year
Come on people.....Look at Nintendo's recent comments (this year) and that will indicate their trajectory.
Re: EA Insists It Won't Turn Codemasters Into "Another Electronic Arts Studio"
Re: Last Year, Roughly 20% Of Switch Console Sales Went To Households That Already Owned One
@rjejr
Re: Former Metroid Prime Lead Designer Targeted With Abusive Messages
Re: Poll: Are You Excited About E3 2021?
Re: OLED Display Firm Mentions 'Switch Pro' During Its Q1 Investors Call
Re: Xbox Thought Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2, Bayonetta 3, And Metroid Prime 4 Would Come Out In 2020
The detail that keeps running thru my mind was the rumor that Nintendo is anticipating unit sales of 30m this fiscal year, yet their now official forecast is calling for 25m units. Well that official forecast van only include current SKUs....so maybe those other anticipated units are the expected Pro sales. I guess one can dream....LoL.....still lots of stuff software wise in the oven for a long time...I think we get Bayo3 as the big fall release and then BOTW2 for Xmas.
