Jax...I fully agree with U, plus the 3DS was cut from $250 to $169=$80 or 35% while the WiiU is going from $350 to $300=$50 or 15%. Not to mention the 3DS launch lineup was way worse than WiiU and their was no eShop for like 2 or 3 months after launch. I got the ambassador stuff and was grateful especially for the GBA games which were all great games and t hey have yet to release for sale which really made it unique. I think most of the bitchers aren't even WiiU owners as I have enjoyed the system this year playing NSMBU, NFSMW, Legos, ME3, Batman, Trine2, and a handful of free demos. I am a big fan of the price cut and Zelda bundle as I want the system to do well this xmas so it has a better chance for success and gets more games in 2014 and beyond. I think $300 for a pro console with a great game like Zelda WW which was never that popular on GC so to many is a new game is a good deal. I have a feeling that if that is the fall bundle we will see a similar bundle with DKCTF for xmas maybe with a new color!
Interesting thought......Shooter bros....you pay $500 for an xb1, $60 for COD Ghosts, $60 for XBL subscription card so for $620 plus $45 tax = $665 you will have your fix. Or you could get a WiiU pro for 300, get COD $60, pay nothing for online and get Zelda WW as a nice game to play to balance out your homicidal rage all for 360 + $35 tax = $395.....leaving you $270 to pay for your Mountain Dew and Doritos......Good move Nintendo now advertise and it should be a good xmas....
I am curiuous about the statement how the other two are handling their launches? I own all systems so am by no means a Nintendo fanboy but $ony and M$ are priced at 399 and 499 with no pack in games you will have to pay 50 for xb gold or psplus to play online, the launch lineups are just like WiiU last year with almost the entire lineup of both systems being games that are also coming out for current gen..Wachtdogs, AC4,Madden,Fifa.....xbox has 2 confirmed exclsuives for launch being forza and a remake of a Snes game Killer Instinct. Sony has two as well Killzone and that other qwuirky game I can't remember. Everything else has been pushed back to launch windows or TBA 2014. I mean really this is how almost all system launches have always been. It take times to make top titles. The place to be at the end of the year is either WiiU or PS3 as both will have lots of exclsuive content and most the meaningful 3rd party titles (ps3 having them all).
Sadly I think the first 2qtrs of this year really hurt WiiU in a major way. I mean you had terrible things being said almost daily by different people with EA leading the charge. Then we see EA is heavily in collusion with M$ so their canceling of finished games lke Crysis 3 and who knows what else that were essentially finished were done to purposefully done to sabotage the system. Then instead od publishers or devs talking about how cool the gamepad is and inovative ways they might use it they totally disregarded it and then talked about how weak the hardware was. So i think we should appreviate Ubi as they were mostly supportive thru put the year and while the rayman was delayed it wasn't cancelled and they gave us the free challenge app and added content. They also released AC3 DLC despite its poor sales. SC BL looks good and I am sure the muliplayer will smooth out and WD and AC4 should be great games. People act like what Ubi is saying is critisizm of Nintendo and maybe it is but in the end they want WiiU to succeed so they can continue to support it. Lastly....I don't know if WiiU is getting that killer app this year but it is getting a lot of good games and many are exclusives. I think Zelda WW will do quite well as it is the first HD Zelda and many of todays gamers won't even know it is a remake. Ps4 and xb1 will be very hard to find and WiiU with a much more attractive library and price point my benefit from that. Nintendo hopefully will do a Nov/Dec ad blitz and they might want to mention it is the only new system you can online game for no monthly fee!
I have mixed feelings about gamestop.....on the one hand in the US they bought up all the brick and mortar gamestorr competition like EB and Babbages so now they are the only corporate option.....so seeing them fail would be sort of sad. They kind of have a starbucks problem in that they are way over saturated in most markets. I live in a city of about 100K people and yet they have 3 stores within about 5 miles of me (I do live in the commercial zone of my city) but still its too much ofthe same thing. Being American I like lots of choices (we tend to be spoiled that way) so internet retail is good, digital download is good, amd so is physical retail.....I think GS biggest competiton is big boxes like Walmart, Target, amd Miejer who all have large game departments and do regular sales and promotions. The best GS has going is also what people curse them formwhich is used buying and selling.....not so much that used is evil crap as most consumers don't care.....more that they give pretty crappy values on used buys and then charge too much on used sells. They need to get more compeditive or they will someday be gone.
I think EA is really being run by idiots.....ok so maybe you are in a liitle tiff with Nintendo but how unprofessional to spend the better part of 2013 pissing all over their fanbase.......a core fanbase that is as loyal as any in the gaming world. Why bother? Whats sad is that EA could do some really innovative things with Madden and FIFA on The gamepad. In general RPGs are popular with Nintendo gamers so I think Dragon Age would do well. I think the should just shut up and go kiss M$ until they see XB1 is going to struggle this generation then maybe they will see an improving WiiU base and give us some games.
The author forgot to mention the Silcon Knights was basically sued out of existence buy Epic games over the improper use of their engine. There was a rumor that Nintendo was invloved with them and a true ED sequel before that happnened but after that crash and burn Nintendo isn't going to touch them. Dyack is a charismatic guy but too often as been seen as a snake oil salesman and is damaged goods in the industry.....I mean they wanted 1.35mil to do episodes but now they can do the entire game for 750K? Look if we want a game that lives up to the quality of ED it will take more than that and a major publisher is going to have to support it. Also Nintendo owns the franchise and the insanity effects as well so if this 'spiritual succesor' gets made and then goes to ps4 is Nintendo going to be looking to sue for any violations of their IP? The best damned thing is if Nintendo would 1 get the original (and other GC) hits on WiiU VC and then get Retro to make a true Nintendo exlusive sequel. SK did awesome work on original Ed as well as the Twin Snakes remake on GC but the fine devs that make up the new company need to ditch Dyak and get a new leader without a poisened past!
Well was kicking myself when I missed Trine2 for 9.99 so definitely getting it as I liked the first one on ps3 and the demo on WiiU was really sharp. Was planning in getting SC BL on disc as I have a bunch of credit at the evil gamestop. I have been jamming on SMT 4 on 3DS which is a real hours eater so won't be buying much else for 3DS until Pokemon/Zelda hit. IGN really didn't review the WiiU version so I would like to see a specific interview as IGN said WiiU cut scenes had stuttering? I mean why are we getting that on a game in 2013? Also Ubi saida lot in the WiiU trailer about gamepad features and IGN barely mentioned it. I am looking forward to it but need more info as W101 and Rayman are both on my must buy list...plus WW, Mario, DKTR and Watch Dogs so yeah the wallet is hurting.
I think it would really be best if Sega or another independant publisher aquires them. Altus has brought so many great JRPGs to the western market on bothy Sony and Nintendo that it would be a shame to see them be exclusive to one system. I have greatly enjoyed the Devil Survivor games on DS and now SMT4 on 3DS as well as Persona on Sony and then even less popular titles like Sakura Wars. SMTxFE is one of my most anticipated titles as I hope they bring the demon breeding/melding system to the FE SRPG model.
Whats amazing about Japan is how reactive and fast their market penetration is with software. Look at some of the big hits and how they will sell in the millions for a few weeks and then just drop of to the thousands the next week. Pretty much if U don't hit ot big right out of the gate in Japan you are screwed. WiiU hardware sales are not that bad trailing only the handhelds which are hot there and PS3 which sold 12K u its and WiiU 10K. Whats dissapointing is the Pikmin 3 effect is obviously over and only caused a bump for a few weeks. Nintendo better keep pumping out the titles and I will be interested to see if W101 sells better than Pikmin and pushes more systems as it is really a much cooler and more cutting edge game.
I don't particularly hate gamestop but do wish they weren't the only game around in the US as far as video game centric retailers....I mean sure we have Best Buy and the big boxes but you would think in a country of over 300mil super consumers we could support a competitor. I remember when they did a similar thing the Shenmue 2 for dreamcast.....they were allowed to import the EU version and distribute it with a special boot CD. It was priced up $10 because the boot CD but then quickly disappeared new and was going for even more used. In some way the finger of blame should fall on Nintendo because with a game so great and with so many Wii owners in the US they should have done a general release and even marketed the game. Just remember this when X comes out for WiiU...get your copy new at release because it will likely get limited prints and be gone soon after. Atl least it will be digital on eShop.....which Xenoblade never will be because there is really no mechanism to distribute and run full DVD games in Wii mode.
Simply amazing....being a technical type with no artististic ability whatsoever I am just blown away as I knew I would be when they announced the new tools. MiiVerse is so cool.....just imagine what the full Art Academy for WiiU will entail and the level of tools and works it will result in.
Why on earth wasn't this shown in the USA??? This months direct was fairly bland but this Indy Sizzle real was pretty exciting so why not finish the NOA prensentation with it. I just don't understand why Nintendo won't play to their strengths. I like that they are trying different things like the Animal Crossings cross over features, the Pikmin camera feature and the new Art tools for MiiVerse. So those are neat and worthwhile things. The rest was pretty drab and honestly why not give us something to be excited about like playable demos of the E3 games or new footage of Mario or DK.....news about Wiifit or WiiParty, Yarn Yoshi or SMTxFE. I like the concept of the directs but if they don't offer anything meaningful then they will lose their appeal and people will stop tuning in.
Well I am annoyed by the lack of local co-op but only because I don't want WiiU getting lesser versions. Honestly would have never used it. Whats funny is the WiiU gamers....who moan and groan because games like Pikman and Mario3D have local but no online and now SC get online but no local. I guess it is no wrong to want it all. One encouraging thing is Ubi supported AC3 with all the DLC so hopefully they will patch local co-op. I mean the mechanics should be in the game if it has online co-op. As long ad the engine is good I plan to buy this day one. I like stealth games and want to support Ubi. Plan to buy this, rayman, and WD and may get AC4 (series kind of fell off for me after brotherhood). I just hope we get full versions of WD and AC4......maybe a $10 cheaper price tag on SC would be a nice dealmand then charge $10 formthe co-op DLC when if it comes out?
@Shadowkiller97 Yes we only know what trillions are in America because our government has racked up 16 trillion in debt. We have crappy Obama phones in the US why can't we get an Obama 3DS program going so all the low rents can get a free portable game system....lol
We are so lucky to get these directs.....who else is doing anything like this? Not Sony or MS or EA oe Ubi or Activision or 2K.....no one. Those that say this is only for Nintendo hardcore or owners are silly. These NDs get broken down and spread all over the web at places like IGN and YouTube. Peronsally I am hoping for anything in the way of footage on SMTxFE but doubt with Altus' status we will get that. I hope they give some love to 3rd party as Ubi has big releases with Splinter Cell and Rayman coming up and they should give an ND announce of CoD Ghosts. Also a release date for Dues EX would be nice as that has been on y he coming soon part od eShop for months. I am not sure if I care if we get more X, Mk8, Mario 3D, Dk footage as we got a good dose ofmthose with the E3 demos. What would be nice is the announcement of some free demos of the upcoming games like W101 and Zelda WW. I mean they had these demos at E3 and Best Buy why not give them to us for download.
Yeah I am a big RPG/SRPG/JRPG fan as well and the 3DS is turning out to be a great system. If you have a Wii there are a suprising number of titles that kind of flew under the radar that are really good including the pricey and hard to find XenoBlade and the cheaper and pretty easy to find The Last Story. I just found out Sakura Wars came out on Wii and I never even knew it so looking for that in the used bins now. If Ninentdo snaps up Altus like they are rumored to be interested in then I think we will see a lot of JRPG coming to WiiU. I do have a WiiU but am also not in a huge rush to get another next gen system. I just have too much to play on 3DS and am looking forward to a lot of the titles coming on WiiU in the next year +. I am just working on Mass Effect 3 now and still have to tackle Skyrim so those are some lengthy undertakings. I played ME1/2 on X360 but picked up ME3 used (and cheap I might add) on WiiU so I could play offTV. That is a huge bonus for me on the RPG style games because I can just get a lot more playing time in if I have the option to play them on or off TV. I have replayed a lot of ps1 RPGs on my psp/vita which if you like the square classics its great to play them portable.
@Windy X will surely be awesome but with the variety of games coming to WiiU in the next three quarters my question would be what type of games do you like? If it is JRPG then you better have a 3DS with the excellent SMT4 just released as well as Etrian Odessy and many other good rpg and fire emblem. Other than that PS3 has some great exclusives like Demon Souls and Ne No Kuni......just curious?
@Obito_Tennyson Mark of the Ninja by Klie is one of the best 2D platformers ever and best game on XBL IMO.....don't starve would be perfect on wiiU....also we need something like Sins of Solar empire....a large scale mMsrpg would so put wiiU in a different light,
@Legromancer i think you underestimate the size and scope of the gaming universe. I too liked Last of Us and think it deservews GOTY consideration, one of the greatest stories ever told, yet really it is a very linear game with very little choice. Still there are plenty that like the classic action that Nintendo brings and the light hearted humor of something like paper mario. We will get more serious content when we get new Metroid or even thinngs like X amd I expect SMTxFE to be a trip being modern day themed and with Altus' affinity for scantily clad demons. Oh and just so you know.....go check the sales on Bio....they have been like poo selling less than 2mil total on ps360 in NA...this on a basenof 150mil users and with a critically acclaimed game that had a TV advert campaign I saw plenty during the NBA playoffs......not everyone wants the same things and us types that play good games across all generes are getting rarer and rarer. You can give me anything from Tomb Raider to Cave Story and I am good but what I don't ever want is Nintendo to sell out and start making the same games that EA, Activision or Sony would make....variety is the spice of life and we need Nintendo just doing their thing just doing more of it.
@BillyCupid I kind of get your point but for me offTV play is huge. I yhonk in reality the gamepad should be a core gamers wet dream. It is super versatile and works great as a primary controller or as a secondary controller using motion controls like with Pikmin or using pro controller. I am lovin playing ME3 and play it some offTV or when on TV use the pro and then find the mapping and squad touch controlls takes the game to a whole new level. I agree it isn't being positioned and pushed right but the potential for WiiU control when you consider gampead, wiimote, and pro controller far excedes anything others can offer. Even though the other are trying to implement second screen with tablet glass and Vita they will not be real second screen controllers because the lag will render them much less functional. Give it time, these are new concepts and I think bit by bit we will see more and more innovative uses of the gamepad and/or multiple control schemes WiiU supports. I think their nrw bundle should include a wiimote plus, nunchuck and pro controller because then all bases would be covered.
I am not tryong to be a hater but the writer of the article is a fool who obviously knows nothing of the history of the industry. The first improper assumption is that the WiiU hardware is so bad or defunct it must be trashed. This before we have even really gotten any honest efforts from Nintendo and their close japanese dev friends like Platnum, Monolith, Sega, Namco, Altus, or Capcom. Lets see two generations of software developed for the U (end of 2014) before we say the hardware is defunct. The next bad assumption is that all Nintendo's problems are related to the hardware. Nintendo needs better and more visible mareting for the U and I think they are working on that with yhinks like the Best Buy demos and Comicon and other convention attendance. Its not all about Tv adverts but they need that as well. Outreach to gamers with exciting ga,es works. Even with new hardware Western 3rd parties will not just jump on Nintnedo. The problem has been systemic. Nintendo gamers usually put their money twoard Nintendo games, 3rd parties give Nintendo platforms weak or limited ports and the cycle continues. If Nintendo just throws out aother x86 game box like the others it would still be looked on as less desirable. Lastly why would you piss on and piss off the 4mil WiiU early supporters and crap on all the devs currently working on U titles hoping for a growing base. Moves like that is why Sega lost all credibilty as a hardware manufacturer themselves. I own all systems and have since the dawn of console gaming. I really like the WiiU. The gamepad is awesome, doing what Nintendo has always done which is innovative controllers. Remember this is the company that gave us the gamepad, the first analogue (n64) the first wireless (wavebird), dual screens, touch on a handheld, motion controls with Wii and now the do everything controller with the WiiU.....It is a dual analogue, touch screen, advanced gyro, dual cameras, mic, speakers and nfc......devs haven't even touched the thing yet. The console hardware is not earth shattering but it is not impotent. Nintendo has admitted it has taken them time internally to get acmlimated which means the dev kits for 3rd parties were likely lacking as well and will improve. Miiverse is very innovative and will soon give us better drawing tools, true inner game integration in Wind Waker and Video clip posting with Mario Kart. Once these faetures get tested in Nintendo titles they will be in the dev kits for others to epmloy. So this article was more bunk by a rank amatuer IMO......Nintendo needs to stay the course and in several years when all their great games have manifested on WiiU we will all look bavk on this bleek year and laugh!
@Peach64 Umm this is incorrect as the Vita has sold less than 3mil units world wide has been out twice as long as the WiiU. Last month in Japan WiiU was second in sales only to the 3DS steamroller. I own a Vita and it is a great piece of hardware, but it has struggled with no real killer app other than the Drake game that came at launc. There are so nice titles and the digital backlog of psp and ps1 games is nice. I thonk the real problem with the Vita is it can support near console quality games but with prices capped at $40 companies other than Sny won't develop that depth or quality of games. Some of the PSN stuff has helped. Still no one has savaged the Vita like the WiiU and the problem for the Vita is even with a decent library it still has very little momentum. Still $ony hasn't and isn't walking away from it just like Nintendo would be foolish to walk away from WiiU so early in its life. Thankfully this dumbo girl isn't. Gaming giant CEO.
Nintendo is just pissing me off.....I mean come on why not make another 2D Mario or party game compilation for WiiU and screw using great classic franchises like Star Fox, F-Zero, Fire Emblem, Eternal Darness, or Kid Icarus. Jesus Nintendo please get your head out of your asses and give us what we want. F-Zero GX is awesome and looks nearly modern when running in 480p @ 60fps. If they won't do an HD update or new version then please get us GC VC soon on WiiU so we can get many of the great GC classics. Also imagine a new FZero on 3DS....the 3D and speed would make your eyes bleed. Also speaking of Nintendo neglecting its racing franchises why not a nee WaveRace....best water racers ever and also why not a new take on Excitebike 64. I just hope Nintendo wakes up and uses these great IPs before they piss themselves out of existence.
I hear you brother.....I also have Vita which has sold less than 2mil units world wide in almost 18 months from release and you never hear trash like you do about the WiiU. Also people act like this gaming drought is something new. Every new system ever released goes thru a dry spell after launch. What is funny is people complain and moan so much about lack of games on WiiU, and yes we have had a lack of what we want (Nintendo games) but the library is not that horrible. People talk about bad ports yet I am playing ME3 and it is excellent, NFSMW excellent, Batman AC best version, NBA2k13 comparable version, COD BOPS2 very good port, AC3 good port with all DLC. We also got MHU and Legos both exlclusives that are very good, and what I consider to be the best version of Injustice Gods Among us (I have played it on all 3 systems and WiiU is the best version). Oh yeah and ZombieU, SMBU, Nintendoland as other solid exclusives. So the lineup for a 9 month old console is not that bad. If you go look at IGNs confirmed game list for PS4 only two 'new' games are confirmed for launch and the rest will be ports/upgrades of games coming out for current systems, then a few other titles are listed as 'launch window' and everything else is TBA 2014. Same deal for XB One. So after all the zellots buy the ps4/xbone I think they will face the same problems as WiiU did in 2013 which is I can get all these multiplats on my ps360 why do I need to drop $500 on new hardware to play them. It won't be until next generation exclusives like destiny or killzone, titanfall or whatever hit that most people will feel compelled to upgrade. Meanwhile WiiU will be hitting its stride later this year with many good exlusives and even better stuff in the first half of 2014. Depsite what poeple say/think the window for Nintendo to turn this ship around is sitll wide open. Meanwhile I am enjoying ME3 that I got used for $22 and can't wait for AUG when I plan to get Pikman and Splinter Cell, followed by about 2 games a month and some eShop goodies between now and Xmas. So don't be brought down by the doom and gloom trolls. For some reason Nintendo sites just get more haters than any other system's sites. The hardware is actually very nice, and the interface has improved so much since the spring update and I expect more improvements with the next update. Miiverse is very cool and remember better drawing tools are coming soon which I can't wait to see what all the creative people do when they have colors and better tools. MK8 is going to introduce video clip posting. I think the system looks great on my 1080p big screen and offTV play on games like 2k13, COD, ME3 really impresses me. I am sure in 2014 we will get more VC goodness and hopefully some N64 and GC games as I just can't wait to be able to play some GC greats like ED, Starfox, Mario SS on the gamepad. Also hopefully Nintendo will introduce a unified account system and should also do more cross play/buy things like Sony does with PS3/Vita. Nintendo will not abandon WiiU before 5 years and even if it is a GC sales wise (it will do better than 20mil units) it will still get a lot of awesome games (just like cube) and be worth the purchase.
@rjejr I would think Skylanders is worn out too, but the Kiddies love it and the new swap force actually looked pretty cool. If Nintendo had half a brain (not sure on the marketing side at this point) they would do a bundle with one of those games pre-loaded on a pro system. It would sell like hotcakes and because both games are built to sell those stupid little toys the publishers would be smart to give Nintendo the game for digital distribution (no disc publishing costs) and then sit back and reap the proffits off their figurines. The game lineup for this year is going to be 'solid' but I think if WiiU is going to sell well this xmas it is going to take pricing and bundles to really move them until MK8, SSBM, and other really desirable titles arrive in 2014.
Well the official UK Nintendo magazine is running a feature on it this month and did a developer interview. They are known to be reputable so I think it is coming. My guess is the fact that COD Ghosts is considered a huge deal for XB One is a factor in it not getting announced at E3 and officially yet in the US where the game is expected to be a main liner for the XBone's launch. I really think we will get it and hope we get the proposed WiiU gamepad Zapper as that would make an impressive combo for the FPS crowd. They acutally did a pretty nice job on COD BOPS2 for WiiU, I was dissapointed more people didn't buy it or play it as the online is good, the motion controls are good, and 2 player local with gamepad is good. With no other real FPS on WiiU this year Activision would be crazy to not give this a go one more time and see if it can't produce better sales.
@rjejr Don't forget skylanders swap force (skylanders sold huge on Wii) and even though not officially announce it appears WiiU will get COD Ghosts (according to official UK Nintendo mag). I actually think Disney Infinty and Skylander will do more to drive xmas sales for WiiU this year than anything else on the market.
@Magotoo you have to remember Shiggy is like. Rock Star god in Japan and this is the first game with his fingerprints on it to come out for WiiU. They also did a Japan Exclusive Direct with him sitting down with a popular talking head to demonstrate and play the game. These sales were only for 1/2 a week and not digital. Just imagine when his mystery new franchise comes out how many units that will move.....with something like Pikman coming out of his head Imcan't imagine what he will cook up next but I would really love to see him do something with an adult narrative atleast once before he retires.
Actually that is not correct. Nintendo has a proprietary disc format created and it is 25GB for Single Density and supports double density as well so they can do 50GB as well. Also the transfer rate is pretty high as well being something like 25mbit per sec. There is really no reason WiiU can't deliver most the same games as other next gen consoles other than the fact they all went X86 like the PC and devs don't want to mess with PowerPC any more.
I agree with a lot of you in that this game is likely not going to sell on WiiU so why should Codemasters bother. I would love to see a Dirt game on WiiU someday but won't hold my breath. As for some of the arguements on 3rd party on Nintendo and other platforms.....I think good games sell and generally a really great game will sell at 10% of the installed base. 15% is super. So COD on X360 generally sells about 10mil on a 75mil base....many Xbox users live for FPS so this makes sense as COD on ps3 only sells about 7mil on a similiar base. Tomb Raider which is a superb game in a classic franchise only sold 3.5mil on ps360 on a base of 150mil. That is pathetic like 3%. What is sad is Bioshock Infinite did worse than tha with 2.5mil sales. Again these are excellent games in established franchises and both had TV advertsing campaigns (in the US atleast). Meanwhile ZombieU did 475K and Lego City and MHU did over 300K on a us base under 4mil. Which is actually very good sales rates of 7-10%. So the thing is the right games will sell on the WiiU and sell as effectively as on other systems. The problem is the right games are not always the same games as will sell on ps/xb/pc so the publishers have a better chance of success going to those 3 and with them all being x86 architecture now it is easy to port them arround. So as in the past Nintendo is a niche product. If the base gets big enough like Wii then we will see some unique offering like Red Steele, Mad World, No more heroes and maybe the ocassional main liner like Assasin Creed or Batman. What we will not see is a Niche game like F1 on a niche console like WiiU. I am not sure Nintendo can change this or even should strive to. We love Nintendo because they are different and they give us gaming experiences no one else delivers. It would have Nintendo be a one size fits all system, but at this point they can't because for 2 generations ps/xboxmhave catered specifically to these users and gamers that care enough about both worlds own multiple systems. So get your WiiU for Nintendo, the odd and unique 3rd party and the very diverse amount of Indies coming and then get either a xbox/ps/pc for everything else and that is still the answer.
@willweinert Because Altus is developing it and Nintendo likely publishing. This way Nintendo does't have to use internal resources.....I for one am hot hot hot for this SMTxFE crossover as I love the demon collecting and fusing in SMT games and that mixed with FE style SRPG should be awesome. It will sell like mad in Japan so I think 1mil world wide sales should be easily achievable.
@Peach64 actually ZombieU did 470K physical copies not counting whatever eShop sales it had......that is really no bad at all for a new franchise on released on lunach day. I would say Ubi should eait until next year when Wiiunhas 8-10mil installed base and then announce a sequal. I am afraid a lot of these publishers our going to struggle on next gen when excellent games like Tomb Riader sell 3.5mil copies on and installed base on 150mil. It will be years and year until Ps4/xbone reach that level which is why we are going to still see a lot of titles coming out on ps360 well thru 2014.
What's new...Patcher hates Nintendo....funny thing, Patcher thinks more of himself and his opinions than anyone else in gaming..really you think the average gamer kniws who this clown is or heeds his advice? Also all the games he mentioned are FPS and violent types other than FIFA....he is a poser. The ultra violent stuff he mentioned has a specific audience that is largely US and dominated by Xbox. Fifa is huge in Europe......Soccer is like the least poplular sport in the US. Funny because he mentions BF....but all serious BF player play on the PC and mock the console players. Despite the 3rd party doom and gloom WiiU is getting BatmanAO, COD Ghosts (announced in upcoming Nintendo UK mag), Disney Infinity, skylanders, AC4, Watchdogs, Rayman, Splinter Cell, SonicLW, W101. Whats mostly lacking is sports. He acts like the entire gaming world is invested is shooter bro titles and sports. He fails to recognize that tablet/mobile gaming has huge market share, that Indy gaming has a huge audience, that many of us love JRPS, SRPGs, Platformers. He fails to recognize phenomina like Animal Crossing and Pokekn that Nintendo created that brought millions of new gamers into the fold. He is a joke. I play on all systems and really Nintendo fans have had to be multiplatform since the N64. Nothing new. I agree if WiiU has a poor xmas and some of these large 3rd party titltes fail and 3rd party drops further next year then some doom and gloom might be merited. Do your part and buy some 3rd party this year and lests hope Nintendo does theirs with a marketing campaign and appealing bundles with aggresive price points. If they really want to sell to the 'family' crowd this year they would work out a Infinity or Skylanders bundle for $300 and they would move serious units. Both these games are cash cows based on figure sales so a pre-loaded pack in would make total sense.
This looks great and have been wanting this since last yeears E3. This concept of descrete MP is always being used in Bungie's new game Destiny. This idea of partaking in other gamers experience is interesting and evtually could lead to a 'single' player mmorpg. I traditionally am not an online gamer so interested to see if this model entices me to more online.
Why doesn't Nintendo step up and say they will fund the cost of developing FrostByte3 on WiiU? I mean my lord its not like is will cost millions and millions of dollars to get a scalable engine running that runs on everything from phones to pcs running on one system. Once the engine is running then EA will be to bring their games to WiiU with the same ease as any other system. Now that aside I think the way EA has treated an entire fanbase is bad business. They dob't have to make games if they don't think they can profit, but why trash the WiiU and all its owners? Even if Nintendo has only moderate sales with WiiU that could be 30-40mil units. That is a lot of fans/users you are alienating...why? I am an all systems gamer but I am turned off by their treatment of an entire fanbase, mire importantly I just have not been that impressed with their latest stuff.....DA2 not nearly as good as DAO, ME3 not as good as ME2, Madden and NCAA peaked many years ago and they have not made a good baseball or basketball game for eons. So its wait and see EA.
His prior statements make you wonder how many other devs trashing WiiU have never even touched it. Hell Nintendo should start a PR initiative and just send WiiU to different devs to get their support. I mean this guys comments were scathing and cheap. I am happy he did a 180 and was man enough to admit it. I think he is right in that its saving grace might be Indy content. Nintendo, its JAP friendly 3rd parties and Nintendo published 2nd party may be all the big titles we get, hopefully the Indies will give us some innovtative eShop wares to compliment the other stuff.
Lord.....EA has been all over the map.....we get it WiiU sales suck to much for your liking and despite being the largest 3RD party publisher you can't find resources? First all this about engines and difficulty....why is crytek got cryengine up and running quickly and it is being used for Shadows of the Eternals which looks great. NFSMW was ported in moths and upgraded with PC. The company that made SniperV2 said the had no problem getting their Asure engine up quickly, Unreal 3 was ported swiftly and used for launch games.....Nintendo has been accomodating supporting things like Unity and HTML5 for Indies.....The WiiU architecture is not that exotic....PowerPC has been around for 20 years and used in many consoles and the GPU is AMD who makes GPUs for everyone.....In modern development you get your engine running and all your resources like textures, music, audio, speech all get scaled and put in the engine. Essentially PS4 and XBone went with highly PC centric designs...which will make it easier to move software between systems, but it will also make it very likely that everything non 1st party makes it to PC.
When are the going to start bringing N64 games to VC and better yet GC games. I love the oldies and goodies but why is Nintendo being so damned conservative with VC on both 3DS and WiiU.
I think the thing that is hard for us 'core' gamers be that Nintendo or other systems is that the gaming universe is changing and some of it may not be to our liking. Nintendo has had their problems with 3rd parties for over a decade now and in most cases it is because they are their own worst enemy. Their games are better. Just look at metacritic scores over the years and Nintendo rarely puts out a game that rates below the 80s....most in the 90s. Meanwhile 3rd parties are lucky to get in the 90s. Gamers have become more segmented....where all type gamers like myself and many other old schoolers are getting rarer. I know many X360 users that play nothing but FPS, don't even own anything but COD and Halo. I agree Nintendo dropped the ball in year one, but if you will remember their strategy was tomstand aside and let 3rd parties accell. Well the plan failed miserably because of my earlier points and because nothing new, different, or worthwhile was brought to the system accept ZombieU. A few of the ports were competent or improved like Batman or NFSMW but they were not new games. So in some ways Nintendo system gamers are spoiled and we want good content and 3rd parties not only usually fail to live up....but they give Nintendo owners an extra slap in the face by omitting features, online, and DLC and then expecting us to pay full price....recently released Sniper V2 is a perfect example. To those publishers or devs Isay don't bother. T those like criiterion with NFSMW or Imexpect Square with the enhanced Dues Ex I say we need to support them when the titles are worthy. Overall I think the industry could be in trouble....look at the recently released Biosphere Infinite.....Awesome game, established series, TV ad campaign, multiple years of development and in the US on ps360 it has sold in he hundreads of thousands.....which is a huge commercial flop. Great recent games like Hitman and Tomb Raider sold like 2.5 and 3.5mil world wide and were consider comercial failures. So expect to see more studios fold and publishers eat each other up in the next generation, which isn't good. Everyone just expects XBone and ps4 will sell like hot cakes but I am not so sure...bad economy, yhe launch lineups are not as overwhelming as people think and 1/2 their games will be out on ps360 this year and next....what is the incentive for many to upgrade? I still think WiiU can do well and as an early adopter Imhave decided yo hold off on ps4 until later next year....I plan to buy any good multiplats on WiiU and if there is something I want that isn't on it or is poorly done then I will look at it on ps360 or PC.
Beyond better games (which are coming), better bundles (which by their history of xmas bundles are also coming), and a better price point (which I think they would be insane not to offer by years end).....I agree that Nintendo needs better marketing. For the love of god hire a good US PR/Marketing firm and get out of the way. Their are some very quirky, good ads out on TV and the companies that dream those up would be a good fit for a japanese company in america. The new Sony ad is good, sort of edgy and in your face which is not really Nintendo's way.....but they could surely get someone clever and entertaining to do some fun and interesting things with Mario, Luigi, and the rest of the gang. Beyond having spent a whole generation going casual, which was great because it brought many non-traditional gamers into the fold, Nintendo also just seems sort of un-cool to everyone but us old school or 'core' gamers who know they really are cool. They seem to be having a bit of an identity crisis wanting to be the 'family' system but also wanting to re-win core gamers. A friend of mine made a good point which is why can't they be both? In many ways Nintendo is a humble, almost meek company when compared to M$ or $ony. Many people appreciate this....they are hard working, they don't put out trash games, and they don't need sex, drugs, and violence to make an entertaining product. They just need some help in position themselves in the US and they can do much better. Also and I have said this before, they need to stop veiwing their handheld and console business so seperately. We need a unified account system and as much as I don't care a achievement system. Tie it all together thru club Nintendo and let your earned achievement be good for some coins. They need more cross buy/cross play and this would encourage those 30+mil 3DS owners to jump on WiiU. This is what Sony is doing with ps3/4 and Vita to try to help their struggling handheld and as an owner of both those systems I really appreciate it. Nintendo needs to leverage it's handheld to help it's struggling console just like $ony is trying to do the reverse.
I am totally pumped for the update that ads pro controller support.....i like playing on gamepad for offtv but find it distracting to use it while playing on TV....i am not crazy about using the wiimote for on tv play so now I will be able to put th gamepad down and play with a traditional controller.....woohoo
I agree but release schedule is not barren for second half of the year and features more exclusive conten than any other system:
Luigi DLC game and warrio Ducktales Remastered dues EX directors Smurfs game Pikman 3 Rayman Orgins Disney Planes Disney Infinity W101 Splinter Cell BL Wii Fit Wii party AC4 Batman AO WatchDogs Sonic And Mario Olympics Sonic Lost Worlds DKC TF Mario 3D World COD Ghosts
That is 21 announced and confirmed for this year titles. Also there are some good games out many people haven't touched including Legos, NFSMW, Injustic and MH3U. So the library will not be sparse by the end ofmthe year and by October they should be ramping up advetising, new bundles, and more aggresive pricing. You will not have a launch lineup to match this on XBone or PS4 and many of the games for those systems will also be out for ps360 and WiiU. By years end WiiU will have over 60 titles and a very diverse library the offers more than just FPS and Racing games
Why? So they can be just like the competition? Do U even own a WiiU? The system is great.....the gamepad is very unique and useful......many people love offTV play......which I do, but also like to use the gamepad to browse (incredible browser far faster than safari or chrome on a tablet), watvh videos, interact of MiiVerse. What the system needs is games which are coming and needs some games that show off the gamepad features better....like some mmorpg or srpg games. BatmanAC used gamepad very well and I bet new Batman Orgins will as well. Looks like DuesEX, Splinter Cell, WatchDogs will all put it to good use, and Pikman 3 and W101 will as well. I agree they need to up the system storage to 64 or 128GB and packing a pro controller would be good as well.....but ditching the gamepad would be suicide as then the system would lack all unique features.
Like many others when I first watched the direct I was sooooo let down. Then after watching it again on my WiiU in HD a had a better feeling. Look many great games coming to WiiU this year far more than the other new systems. 3rd party for this year is really not that bad.....I mean all of UbI's big games are coming, Batman, CoD Ghosts, Disynet Infinity, W101, Sonic.....That with the expexted 1st party is a lot of content to buy and play. Really the biggest ommision is the lack of any sports game at all.....No Football, Basketball, Hockey, Golf, or Soccer is a bad thing as many gamers like sports games and if the only own one system it can't be WiiU if they want sports. I am more concerned for 3rd party in 2014 because if WiiU doesn't sell well and some of these games sell well this xmas then I am afraid WiiU will have a very bleak 3rd party future.....and turn out to be more a N64 like system depending on Nintendo and 2nd party and a few negotiaited exlusives. It is sad because the system is closer to the competition than Wii was by a mile and EA has announced they will support current gen to 2017....overall I think Microsoft did little to help their cause and $ony won by mostly hitting M$ in the groin. Too many FPS and Racing games and not much innovation.....what happened to action adventures, to RPGs, to Strategy, go quirky fun stuff? In that way Nintendo actually showed more diversity (minus the sports) than anyone else. Of the 3rd parties I thought Ubi was strongest which is why us WiiU gamers need to supprt thhem and buy one or two of their major releases this fall. I really liked the developer directs and think that was a nice touch that I wish other publishers would do in the future.
I admit I was disappointed by the lack of titles that showed gamepad features at E3.....but this guy is a tool and so are all the other doom and gloomers.....I mean this box has been out 8 months and we are supposed to believe its failed. It took nearly 2 years for PS3 to get out of its launch funk and Vita has started slow as well. 3DS as well.....just seems to be more the norm now than the exception. The gamepad is brilliant and offers everything a controller could offer. Traditional controls, advanced gyro. second screen, touch screen, dual cameras, mic, speakers.....has it been under utilized...sure...but it is an awesome controller, very cool for social media, watching videos, browsing, miiverse. Some devs like the group doing the Deus EX redo, Splinter Cell, WDogs are very excited about its possibilities. Indy devs have been pretty excited. For god sakes bring us a quality SRPG like starcraft, wow, sins of the solar empire and it would rock. Can't wait to see SMTxFE and how it uses it. It is a new concept and like all new concepts it will take a while to be properly used but to dump it would be a total disaster for Nintendo. Also notice how the competition is trying to copy with Vita and Smart glass. Problem is Vita is $250 and even a cheap tablet is $200. Also Nintendo did a lot to create a zero lag solution for gamepad which is brilliant....these other tack on solutions will never have the responsiveness of gamepad at we all know that is key in gaming. People please be patient and remember when you get your ps4 and hit is post launch drought that this is the norm, meanwhile you will be parking it and playing X, B2, and MK8 on your WiiU
EA are idiots.....they think they are gong to have big installed base on a new console? What devs traditionally try to establish franchises or new IPs in the first gen of software. Much like Ubi did with Zombie U. Zombie zu didn't sell bad for a launch title, many liked it and when the base increases they can bring out a sequel an do better. EA is on poor footing with Nintendo gamers and it goes back a while. They did one good madden for Wii which was 09 that was the family friendly one. The Tiger games were good and sold well because many real golfers loved the realistic motion controls. Beyond that they did a lot of crap.....never took any risks on an exclusive or unique IP....this on a console that sold 100mil. They have largely sucked on handhelds....I mean 100s of millions of GBA, DS, 3DS and the NFS, Madden,, Tiger games have largely sucked. So we Nintendo fans just don't trust them. To those talking about difficulty porting....honestly U are ignorant. This isn't the 90s. All these systems have advanced dev tools and assets for grafx, sound, music, and physics all get re-used. Many devs have said the U is easy to dev on or port to and that is evidenced by the fact Cryengine was up and running on no time, same with unreal3, and rockstar had GTA running on it. It took months to port NFSMw and they upgraded the grax and added special features. If this logic holds then EA will only be a ps4 and pc company soon enough. M$ already said they expect to struggle out of the gate and EA will never find acceptance on U unless they put something out worth buying. Personally I grew tired of madden and ncaa years ago. Dragon Age and ME are all they have that I care about and about one in 5 or 6 NFS titles.
I am sure this DK game will rock and if U think about it platformers done on a AAA scale are not a common thing outside Nintendo and Rayman. I guess the letdown for me was we had Super Mario U, Luigi U coming this month, Rayman this fall and now DKCTF. Why make an HD console and populate it with side scrollers? We were all primed for 3D mario, and something awesomemfrom retro and we get this? I am looking forard to it and grealt enjoyed Mario 3D on 3DS....I just want something that really shows of WiiU hut guess I will have to wait for 2014 for X, B2, MK8 and SSBU to get that sexy app we all want.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Limited Edition Wii U Bundle For The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
@JaxonH
Re: Nintendo Confirms Limited Edition Wii U Bundle For The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
Re: Nintendo Confirms Limited Edition Wii U Bundle For The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
@Jazzer94
Re: Ubisoft: Nintendo Has "Some Of The Best IP In The World", But Needs To Work On Communication
Re: GameStop Sales and Profits Take a Hit Ahead of Vital Shopping Period
Re: EA Executive Repeats That The Company is "Platform Agnostic", Cites "Tremendous Relationship" With Nintendo
Re: Denis Dyack - "Actions Will Speak Volumes" as Precursor Games Seeks to Build Trust
Re: Nintendo Download: 15th August (North America)
Re: Katsura Hashino: "Many Announcements" Set For 25th Anniversary of Atlus
I think it would really be best if Sega or another independant publisher aquires them. Altus has brought so many great JRPGs to the western market on bothy Sony and Nintendo that it would be a shame to see them be exclusive to one system. I have greatly enjoyed the Devil Survivor games on DS and now SMT4 on 3DS as well as Persona on Sony and then even less popular titles like Sakura Wars. SMTxFE is one of my most anticipated titles as I hope they bring the demon breeding/melding system to the FE SRPG model.
Re: Disney Magic Castle Stays On Top in Japan, As the 3DS Rules the Land
Re: GameStop Defends Xenoblade Chronicles Pricing, Plans More "Vintage Titles" Like Metroid Prime Trilogy
Re: Feature: Some Early Miiverse Favourites From Art Academy: SketchPad
Simply amazing....being a technical type with no artististic ability whatsoever I am just blown away as I knew I would be when they announced the new tools. MiiVerse is so cool.....just imagine what the full Art Academy for WiiU will entail and the level of tools and works it will result in.
Re: Nintendo Unleashes an Awesome Sizzle Reel of Upcoming Wii U eShop Titles
Re: Interview: Ubisoft On Splinter Cell Blacklist, Taking the Series Forward and Wii U Features
Re: Nintendo Has Sold 268.97 Million Consoles And 385.15 Million Handhelds In 30 Years
@Shadowkiller97 Yes we only know what trillions are in America because our government has racked up 16 trillion in debt. We have crappy Obama phones in the US why can't we get an Obama 3DS program going so all the low rents can get a free portable game system....lol
Re: New Nintendo Direct Coming August 7th, Focus Is "Previously Announced" Wii U And 3DS Software
Re: Dan Adelman: Nintendo's Got "A Whole Bunch More" Coming to the Wii U eShop this Holiday
@Windy
Re: Dan Adelman: Nintendo's Got "A Whole Bunch More" Coming to the Wii U eShop this Holiday
Re: Dan Adelman: Nintendo's Got "A Whole Bunch More" Coming to the Wii U eShop this Holiday
@Obito_Tennyson Mark of the Ninja by Klie is one of the best 2D platformers ever and best game on XBL IMO.....don't starve would be perfect on wiiU....also we need something like Sins of Solar empire....a large scale mMsrpg would so put wiiU in a different light,
Re: Dan Adelman: Nintendo's Got "A Whole Bunch More" Coming to the Wii U eShop this Holiday
Re: Satoru Iwata Emphasizes Nintendo's Desire to Produce Products That "Resonate" With Consumers
Re: IGN Editor: If Wii U Doesn't Pick Up, Nintendo Should Look To New Hardware
Re: IGN Editor: If Wii U Doesn't Pick Up, Nintendo Should Look To New Hardware
Re: Talking Point: F-Zero GX HD Could Boost the Franchise onto Wii U
Re: Satoru Iwata Refutes Claim That Nintendo Is "Suffering" Right Now
@Rumbler
Re: Talking Point: Pikmin 3 Shows the First Shoots of the Wii U's Planned Recovery
Re: Talking Point: Pikmin 3 Shows the First Shoots of the Wii U's Planned Recovery
@Subie98
Re: Talking Point: Pikmin 3 Shows the First Shoots of the Wii U's Planned Recovery
@ianandian33 I agree.....I just hope we get N64 and GC VC for WiiU in 2014. I want sooo bad to play those games on the gamepad!
Re: Talking Point: Pikmin 3 Shows the First Shoots of the Wii U's Planned Recovery
Re: Pikmin 3 Makes Japanese Chart Debut at Number One, Boosts Wii U Hardware Sales
Re: Satoru Iwata Refutes Claim That Nintendo Is "Suffering" Right Now
@Darknyht
Re: Codemasters: F1 2013 Would Need To Be "A Very Different Game" To Run On Wii U
Re: Nintendo: Wii U Fire Emblem Would Need To Sell 700K To Justify The Effort
@willweinert Because Altus is developing it and Nintendo likely publishing. This way Nintendo does't have to use internal resources.....I for one am hot hot hot for this SMTxFE crossover as I love the demon collecting and fusing in SMT games and that mixed with FE style SRPG should be awesome. It will sell like mad in Japan so I think 1mil world wide sales should be easily achievable.
Re: Nintendo: Wii U Fire Emblem Would Need To Sell 700K To Justify The Effort
Re: Pachter: Nintendo Has Lost Its "Mojo"
Re: Watch_Dogs Team Outlines In-Game Connectivity and Ideas for the Future
This looks great and have been wanting this since last yeears E3. This concept of descrete MP is always being used in Bungie's new game Destiny. This idea of partaking in other gamers experience is interesting and evtually could lead to a 'single' player mmorpg. I traditionally am not an online gamer so interested to see if this model entices me to more online.
Re: EA: Frostbite 3 On Wii U "Not Impossible"
Re: Indie Developer Explains How Nintendo Made Him a Wii U Believer
His prior statements make you wonder how many other devs trashing WiiU have never even touched it. Hell Nintendo should start a PR initiative and just send WiiU to different devs to get their support. I mean this guys comments were scathing and cheap. I am happy he did a 180 and was man enough to admit it. I think he is right in that its saving grace might be Indy content. Nintendo, its JAP friendly 3rd parties and Nintendo published 2nd party may be all the big titles we get, hopefully the Indies will give us some innovtative eShop wares to compliment the other stuff.
Re: EA Outlines Its Reasons for Lack of Wii U Support
Re: Pilotwings Soars Into The North American Wii U eShop This Thursday
When are the going to start bringing N64 games to VC and better yet GC games. I love the oldies and goodies but why is Nintendo being so damned conservative with VC on both 3DS and WiiU.
Re: Fils-Aime - With the Upcoming Wii U Lineup Third-Party "Development Dollars are Starting to Shift"
Re: Iwata: We Are To Blame For Poor Wii U Sales
Re: Club Nintendo Confirms Luigi Pin Contest For New Super Luigi U Downloads
I am totally pumped for the update that ads pro controller support.....i like playing on gamepad for offtv but find it distracting to use it while playing on TV....i am not crazy about using the wiimote for on tv play so now I will be able to put th gamepad down and play with a traditional controller.....woohoo
Re: Iwata: We Are To Blame For Poor Wii U Sales
@element187
I agree but release schedule is not barren for second half of the year and features more exclusive conten than any other system:
Luigi DLC
game and warrio
Ducktales Remastered
dues EX directors
Smurfs game
Pikman 3
Rayman Orgins
Disney Planes
Disney Infinity
W101
Splinter Cell BL
Wii Fit
Wii party
AC4
Batman AO
WatchDogs
Sonic And Mario Olympics
Sonic Lost Worlds
DKC TF
Mario 3D World
COD Ghosts
That is 21 announced and confirmed for this year titles. Also there are some good games out many people haven't touched including Legos, NFSMW, Injustic and MH3U. So the library will not be sparse by the end ofmthe year and by October they should be ramping up advetising, new bundles, and more aggresive pricing. You will not have a launch lineup to match this on XBone or PS4 and many of the games for those systems will also be out for ps360 and WiiU. By years end WiiU will have over 60 titles and a very diverse library the offers more than just FPS and Racing games
Re: Iwata: We Are To Blame For Poor Wii U Sales
@stefenjc
Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo E3 Survey
Re: Nintendo Not Focusing Too Much On What Other Companies Are Doing
For the love of god make a Pokemon MMORPG for wii u that allows cross play with 3DS and they would rule the world.....absolutely rule.
Re: Time: Nintendo Is "Stumped" By The Wii U GamePad And Should Ditch It
I admit I was disappointed by the lack of titles that showed gamepad features at E3.....but this guy is a tool and so are all the other doom and gloomers.....I mean this box has been out 8 months and we are supposed to believe its failed.
Re: EA Will "Jump Back In" If Wii U Becomes A "Viable Platform"
Re: Retro Studios Working on "One Major Project at a Time"
I am sure this DK game will rock and if U think about it platformers done on a AAA scale are not a common thing outside Nintendo and Rayman.
