Re: Dr. Mario World Surpassed Five Million Downloads In Its First Seven Days

Prizm

I stopped playing. It constantly has connection problems, throwing up the old "A communication error has occurred" message that infuriates the hell out of anyone that plays Mario Kart 8 DX online.
The app drains battery like there's no tomorrow. And I got sick of losing to people who have purchased items to help them win.

Re: Nintendo Inexplicably Deletes Popular Mario Maker Streamer's Level

lol what did you expect with such a stupid name? 🙄 Don't people get it that you don't bend the rules with Nintendo or try to to skirt as close as possible. They will screw you over.

Yes, he says he reuploaded similar named files previously, but chances are Nintendo did not manually check them. I doubt it was intentional by Nintendo to allow them.

Re: Video: New Dr. Mario World Trailer Shows Off Playable Characters, Abilities And Assistants

I just went and watched the first english trailer... man that trailer is full of cringe 😖 It's like watching the translated portions of a Nintendo Direct. Is Nintendo absolutely hopeless at creating an exciting voiceover in Japanese in the first place?
Why not just do a proper English trailer rather than one that sounds like it's been directly translated from Japanese with zero emotion or timing?

Re: Switch Version Of Crash Team Racing Receives Early Patch To Improve Online Multiplayer

Don't fall for the "30fps is fine" mantra. I bought Sonic Team Racing when it came out, and after playing it once, it's now collecting dust 😣

30fps is sub-standard for any action game, but for racing games it's the absolute pits. It's not just the smoothness of motion that's affected, it also affects how responsive your controls feel. The choppy frame rate makes the controls feel less sharp.
I'm almost tempted to buy the PC version, but it sucks to play games like this on PC.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Summary From E3 2019 - Day One

All I saw was game after game with yesterday's graphics 🙄 (or simply games FROM yesterday)
And OMG, that old guy in Astral Chain with the plastic hair 😂
I felt like I was in 2009.

Almost the only games that genuinely looked good were Nintendo's own because they build the games from scratch with the Switch's limitations in mind. Rather than porting a AAA game and setting the AAA-intended graphics to potato.

Re: UK Charts: Team Sonic Racing Comes In Third As A VR Game Takes Pole For The First Time

I bought Sonic Racing and now I regret it 😖
I knew the frame rate was bad and wasn't going to buy it, but some reviews were saying it's a great game, you won't notice the frame rate issue after a while, etc etc.
Yeah well, it plays like a PC with an inadequate video card. The lack of decent frame rate makes the game feel laggy or sluggish. It's just not enjoyable for me. I will not make the same mistake again. At least I got it on sale (physical copy).

Re: So Long Ouya, We Hardly Knew Ye

I had the special edition copper brown Ouya. It looked really nice. But the games weren't that great, and the audio lagged by about half a second for every sound effect.
I could see on the horizon that things were starting to stagnate, so I jumped ship and sold it while people were still willing to buy it.

Re: These Custom Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Tracks Have Us Dreaming Of A Future Track Creator

Prizm

@wal - I agree, I think it would be a bad move for Nintendo to release a track editor for Mario Kart.
It cheapens the brand and floods it with garbage. Online play would suck because you'd all have to have the same track downloaded, and they'd have to be approved by Nintendo in case they're unfinished, offensive, etc. It would be a nightmare.
Some fan-made tracks will definitely be amazing gems but I think overall a track maker would harm the series.

Mario Maker has already cheapened 2D Mario games, and it's killed any chance of a new official 2D game for a long time. Now if Nintendo wanted to do another 2D Mario, it would have to be years down the road and it would have to look completely different in order to distinguish it from fan-made courses.

MK8 DX is not the end of the line. Nintendo can always think up a new concept or ideas for MK9 if they wanted to. Or they can simply focus on DLC tracks.

Re: Random: Game Boy Classic Super Mario Land Gets A Fan-Made DX Update

@Link-Hero @Zequio @NintendoFan4Lyf -
Regarding collision detection, which part is the problem? SML always had slightly ‘off’ collision detection, where (for example) your Mario sprite passed through a brick when you jumped off-center to the brick.

The ROM creator would also have to work within the same original tile size for the mario sprites, so they wouldn’t have been able to make the sprites more than a couple pixels bigger, if that.

Re: Random: Game Boy Classic Super Mario Land Gets A Fan-Made DX Update

When I first bought the original Gameboy with Super Mario Land, it annoyed me as I thought I was getting a cheap ripoff of a Mario game. A fireball that only bounces once, turtles that explode instead of being able to kick their shell... WTF?? 🤔
But I realized that those were likely changes to suit the limited hardware, and the small sprites were a result of programmers not yet fully knowing how to get the most out of the unit.

The game has its own special charm and still has my favorite Mario soundtrack. I played it for countless hours.
