Re: Nintendo Wins $2.1 Million In Lawsuit Against ROM Website

Prizm

Get lost, Nintendo. Although it was stupid to actually charge for access to the ROMs. That's asking for trouble.

$2.1m divided by $35,000 for each "infringement" is 60. So 60 cases of infringement? I would hope Nintendo is not trying claim damages for games they did not create (Capcom, Square, etc).
Although 60 seems a bit low if there were ROMs from multiple systems 🤔

Re: Switch Frame Rate And Resolution For House Of The Dead: Remake Seemingly Revealed

Prizm

Not my kind of game, but I like that they prioritized the frame rate. Still a pity that it has to be 720p though. Bring on the new Switch.

@BloodNinja - "Great for resting in between DDR sets!"
Ahh, a fellow DDRtist. You played both sides of HOTD, I always played both sides of the DDR pad 😄 Doubles. Although these days I'm lucky to get through 3 double songs on Heavy without my legs giving out 😅 If I happen to come across a machine, that is.

Re: Nintendo Just Released An Update For Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Prizm

@Ninfan - You probably need to provide more information and ask this in a forum to get more feedback. If you're just starting to play MK8, then there might be a few reasons why you feel you're slow. Turn off auto-steer, make sure you're drifting, use the stats screen as a guide when choosing your kart etc.

If you're playing online, everyone knows the track shortcuts so you will be left in the dust if you haven't practiced the tracks (although the game does try to pair you with people with similar online experience).

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch 'Pro' Reveal Expected Before E3, Out This Year

Prizm

@Giancarlothomaz "why Nintendo would release another Switch model and phase out the current Switch model, when it still selling well"

If it's not a huge price jump, those who want a Switch will just buy the updated model. If the old one is getting phased out, Nintendo will drop the price a bit for a bargain.

The current game library isn't going anywhere. They're not going to invest all that effort in branding, Wii U ports and Switch Online etc just to start from scratch all over again with an incompatible console. It's way too soon for that.

I doubt there will be exclusive games on the new model (or very few). I think the new model will just provide a faster and smoother experience. It also makes sense not to have exclusives if they're still keeping the Switch Lite.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch 'Pro' Reveal Expected Before E3, Out This Year

Prizm

@dew12333 "why do you say this rumour comes from Bloomberg and then later in the article state that you have other sources stating the same. What about you?"
Good journalism quotes its sources of information where possible, so we know they're not just inventing stories.

How can NintendoLife write an article like this without a source, if the writer did not get this information first hand? NintendoLife are reporting what others are claiming and you can judge for yourself whether those sources are reliable.

Re: One Of The Rarest Mega Man Titles Is Getting A Physical Reprint

Prizm

I tried Wily Wars on an emulator many years ago. As soon as I heard that weak and lame FM soundtrack, I was out 😝
Give me the NES audio any day.

FM has its uses, but it needs to be supplemented by something otherwise it just sounds flaccid. That's why most Genesis music is horrible.

Sonic the Hedgehog music sounded good because they made use of an actual sample channel for drums, and a second music chip on the Genesis, the PSG. The PSG had 3 pulse wave channels to make the typical NES lead sounds, plus a noise channel for high hats and other white noise effects. But it seems many composers for the Genesis just phoned it in and only stuck to a few FM channels for music.

Re: Roblox Dev Open To A Switch Release

Prizm

@Doofenshmirtz - Roblox is MASSIVE with kids particularly under 13. The Switch is barely a blip on the radar by comparison.

Roblox is a platform that allows thousands of fan-made games (which explains the jankiness of many titles). Obviously some games are better than others.
Although the graphics are poor, this allows it to run on almost any device. My child advises that almost all the kids in class play Roblox.
That's the biggest drawcard - they can easily play and communicate with their friends in it, and many games are non-violent so it attracts a lot of female players.

The text chat is auto-moderated and it does a pretty good job. I'm not sure how they will handle chat with Switch. It will kill the amount of players if text chat is lost.

But Nintendo is losing a fortune by not tapping into this market.

Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online SNES And NES Service With Five More Titles

Prizm

To be fair, Joe & Mac and Spanky's Quest were known back in the day. I remember seeing magazine ads for them and they didn't really have a bad reputation. They're kinda 'B-side' though, and Nintendo should've really included a blockbuster title with this collection.

Spanky's Quest probably holds up the most. I played it on Gameboy and it was pretty good as a casual game.

Re: Katy Perry's Pokémon Song 'Electric' Is Out Now

Prizm

I was expecting typical current pop garbage, but boy did they really phone this one in.

Empty meaningless lyrics (which was expected), but not even a disguised reference to Pokemon. Then the Pikachu and Pichu interactions were lazy AF.

Re: Review: Raiden IV x Mikado Remix - Another Astoundingly Good Shmup For Switch

Prizm

I lost interest years ago in these Japanese shoot 'em up ports/lazy remasters. The vertical aspect ratio just isn't suitable for home playing. 60% of screen real estate wasted, and it means the game area and sprites end up tiny.
Then there's usually a half-baked effort to slap a menu over the top, so the ports often feel very unpolished.
I respect that the original games were popular in arcades, but unless they're going to totally reboot them in 16:9, I'm not interested.

Check out Skyforce Anniversary and Skyforce Reloaded.

@EmmatheBest "The comments are disabled"

If you go to their YouTube channel homepage, there is a Discussion tab for that user where you can add a comment.

For other users, sometimes they will have a social media link or text description of how to contact them.

I usually downvote any videos that have disabled comments and/or ratings. Out of principle. Aside from a few fair exceptions like videos for kids or general education.

Re: Metroid Prime Trilogy Switch Port? Unlikely, Says Former Retro Studios Dev

Prizm

This is why I hate Nintendo forcing gimmicky controls into their mainline games every time they release a new console 🙄

Near-sightedness like this sabotages the chances of a game's re-release.

Nintendo pulled the same near-sightedness crap with Samus Returns: they wasted all that money and effort to release it in low resolution on a practically end-of-life system (3DS) instead of the Switch. Now we will never see a re-release because they'd have to completely remaster it for single screen and non-touch.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Retains Its Crown In Nintendo Switch Best-Selling Games List

Prizm

@westman98 - Yep, Wii Sports sales is such a BS sales figure as well as MK8.

In post 8, @Divinebovine quoted the 'best-selling Nintendo games', and most of those games were included with a console bundle at some point. I mean, Super Mario Bros for NES, Tetris for Gameboy? Sheesh.

@jcboyer515 "Why exactly shouldn't the sale of a game count if it's bundled with a Switch in your opinion?"
It's a dubious sales figure because the buyer may not necessarily want the included game. They're not buying the game based on its own merit.
They're wanting to buy a console and that pack-in bundle may just happen to be the one available at the shop when they buy the Switch. They might not give a crap about MK8 and are buying a Switch for Smash and Animal Crossing.

Back in the day, I bought the original Gameboy and hated the fact that it came with Tetris instead of Mario Land. I never would have purchased Tetris as a standalone game. And yet my 'purchase' is included in the sales figures for Tetris.

Re: Feature: Pokémon Snap - The 64DD Origins Of A Picture-Perfect Spin-Off

Prizm

Interesting the composer is mentioned, Snap 64 had a couple great tunes like the Beach and the Cave.
I had access to an N64 back in the day, and Pokemon Snap was the game I played the most by far, despite Smash and Mario 64 also being available.

Listening to the music in the New Snap trailers, the soundtrack sounds rather forgettable this time around though.

@pinta_vodki said "It is such a Nintendo move it's almost ridiculous. Make something almost great, and then... never deliver on the obvious. Forlders & themes? Nope. VC on Switch? Nope. Mario Kart or Mario Party DLC? Nope."

Spot on. I really want to like today's Nintendo, but they seem completely out of touch. Especially since Doug Bowser and what's-his-name in Japan.
