Re: Scathing Report Suggests All Is Not Well At Team17 Following NFT Backtrack

I've been a professional programmer for over two decades, and everyone I've worked with over the years have always said the samething... do NOT go to work in the gaming industry unless you want to be overworked, grossly under paid, and get little to nothing out of the success that sometimes comes along for a well received release.

Seriously. Stop glorifying the gaming industry. It's sweatshop work that makes billions for those at the top at the expense of those that actually do all the work.

I love my career, but the only way I will ever jump in to the gaming industry is if I make a game independently for myself.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2022 Nintendo Direct?

PharoneTheGnome

I thought it was a good Nintendo Direct. I have no idea why some reviewers are so down on it.

I am excited about:

  • Kirby
  • Mario Strikers
  • Nintendo Switch Sports
  • Earthbound
  • Mario Kart Deluxe 8 DLC
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3

The only thing that I had ZERO interest in was the Kingdom Hearts cloud version. I will NEVER pay for a cloud version of any game. That is such a very, very bad road that the industry is going down. You are NOT buying a game if you are paying for a cloud version. All you are doing is OVER PAYING to RENT a game until such time that they decide to stop providing it.

Re: Banjo-Kazooie Is Available Now On Switch Online's Expansion Pack

PharoneTheGnome

Streamed this last night at twitch.tv/Pharone

Was disappointed that it wasn't available when I got home from work, but it gave me some time to mess around in some other N64 games on the Switch.

When the game finally was available though, it was well worth the wait. I had forgotten just how much fun this game is really. So much fun!

I plan to stream more of it tonight after work.

I think that the current generation of working class out there in the world right now think that this sort of thing is new. The reality is that working has sucked for ever.

The big difference between the current generation's workforce and that of a couple decades ago is that back in the day, people just kept their mouths shut and did their job until such time that they found a better job, and then they flipped off their boss, told them where to stick their head, and walked out the door strutting like they just won the lottery.

Today's workforce thinks that every time something happens that they don't like, it is suddenly news worthy. Sorry. It's not. You have a job. Congratulations for finally figuring out that having a job SUCKS.

My advice to you is simple. Start investing every dollar you can in to stocks, crypto, collectibles, etc. That way, you can retire in your 40s while everybody else that didn't do that works well in to their late 60s and early 70s before retiring.

Welcome to the real world.

Re: Feature: 14 Wii Games That Deserve Switch Ports

I really enjoyed Boom Blox, but the Switch needs to get a LOT better with motion control before a game like that would be good on it.

I am a huge fan of Kirby's Epic Yarn. I loved that game. It just plain made me smile every time I played it. It made me feel like a kid again with no worries in the world, and in a world with so much crap to deal with as an adult, that's a good thing.

Re: Review: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl - A Middling Pair Of Remakes

PharoneTheGnome

I wonder some times if there shouldn't be two reviews for games like these; one for those who played the original game in the past, and one for those who have never played the original game.

I say this because while I can understand your rating of the game based on your expectations as someone who played the original game, I think that for someone who has never played the original and is experiencing this game for the first time, it probably is a little better than a 6 out of 10.

Re: Animal Crossing Fans Left Upset After Nintendo Patches Out Neat Camera Trick

@Silly_G if you have put in 200 hours in to any game, I'd say you got your money's worth and then some. In fact, the fact that you played AC for over 2 months straight to me means the game was a good purchase for you.

I think people's expectations of what AC should be for them is a tad out of whack.

No offense to anyone though. I'm just saying you paid about $50 and got a game that you played (and likely enjoyed for the most part) for over two months. That's not a bad thing.

Re: "Why Make It Mini?" NES Creator Says People Would Still Buy A Regular System Today

PharoneTheGnome

If they made the NES, SNES, Gamecube, and N64 (with built in HDMI output) that was 100% compatible with all original cartridges/CDs, I would ***HAPPILY*** buy one of each and be buying the games.

There's literally no reason for Nintendo to not be making money off of their existing products and game library.

The way to handle this is to update the systems for HDMI and replace parts with newer parts that "do the same thing" while being more efficient and less expensive. Sale them from the Nintendo online store rather than at retailers because it is going to be a niche audience and would fail most likely if they were to ship millions of units to retailers.

Then just have all of the games (ALL OF THEM!!!) purchasable from the Nintendo online store and create them on purchase. There's literally no reason to have a million copies of Mother sitting in a warehouse. Just create the cartridge when it is ordered online, and ship it out.

Nintendo is leaving tons of money on the table by not doing this right now.

Re: Itching For 2020's First Nintendo Direct? One Super Mario Maker 2 Player Got Tired Of Waiting

Everybody should temper their expectations some on any announcements coming out soon. As much as we would like to believe that everything is fine and dandy, the corona virus is having an affect on all businesses. Japan is dealing with the virus right now as we speak. An announcement for games coming out this year kind of takes a back seat to health. Cut them some slack and be patient.
