As Microsoft and Sony gear up for the next generation of console gaming, Nintendo is focused on maintaining the sales momentum of its current hardware.
The holiday period is obviously an important time for these sales, and according to some "early analysis" from Wedbush Securities, the standard Switch featuring a download code for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was one of the most popular items during this year's Black Friday sales in America.
Although Microsoft and Sony's consoles saw major price cuts during this same period right down to $200 or less, Wedbush analysts told CNN how Nintendo managed to dominate the competition with the exact same deal as last year's (priced at $299.99). During Cyber Monday, the "Nintendo Switch" also ranked as one of the top ten searches on Google Trends in the United States.
If you did pick up one of these Switch bundles during this year's Black Friday sales, you've likely got an older model with less impressive battery life (as noted by analyst Daniel Ahmad on Twitter). Regardless of this, it's still a Switch!
For anyone wondering how long the Switch can maintain these strong sales, just yesterday, analysts predicted the hardware could experience "a longer life cycle" due to its hybrid design, which makes it a very effective platform for selling software.

Well deserved.
Yup, snagged one of the MK8 bundles (along with an extra set of joycons, Crash Trilogy, and Tetris 99) for my nephews for Xmas.
Not surprised, it's a Switch and Mario Kart.
Did not pick up a MK 8 bundle but did buy a switch. Should be a fun family console for couch co op
@TurboTEF Lucky nephews. I never had an uncle as nice as you. Happy Holidays to you and yours!
@whanvee Eh, felt like an ass because I didn't get them anything all last year so I got them a better gift this year.
Got myself a copy of Umihara Kawase: Fresh for $20 too.
Not Surprised here....
Bought my son a Switch Lite. Not on sale but I got him a game on the cheap with it.
The Switch that I bought (almost 2 years ago), I bought it at Sam's, and there was a promotion that they gave a free game to choose from, and there was between Zelda and Mario Kart, however, Mario Kart really was already sold out, but luckily I managed to get the last , last copy by pure luck.
Not really concerned with the battery life as my Switch has been on the dock since it launched in 2017!
Bit slow off the bat not mentioning the brand new Mario Kart bundle (Improved model Switch) now available in the UK and Europe eh NL? 😜
As long it sells this well we will not see a mk9 I think
i use 95% of the time in handheld mode but can't say the battery life has ever been a gripe, more is always better of course but still i wouldn't upgrade just for that anyway.
@TurboTEF sounds like you’ll all have an awesome Christmas!
"Nintendo managed to dominate the competition with the exact same deal as last year's (priced at $299.99)" Ok, but if the price was $199.99 they would move more systems and games. This way they make more profit though, but that doesn't bring better 3d party support
Got a similar bundle of the latest switch with just a retail version of Mario Kart. Kept the switch while selling mario kart with my older switch to my brother, win-win.
While in queue for this order, 2/3 of the people in line were there for the same switch bundle as me. Nintendo you've done it again
The Switch has become my favorite console. The DS was the best but the only area the Switch truly does not shine is portability but after looking at the Switch Lite I think it would be the one with the new case that is out.
Yep, there's no stopping MK8D!
Every time I saw someone say something along the lines of, "don't buy the bundles on Black Friday because it's the older Switch and doesn't have the new batter," it made me facepalm.
I mean, hello... people... the old Switch is the same Switch that the vast majority of us own and love. If you can get that for less money, why the hell wouldn't you buy it.
The only reason you should wait and buy a newer Switch is if you MUST HAVE the very best available at the time, and if you are that kind of person, then you know that you are going to be paying top dollar for your purchases, so the Black Friday bundles were not for you in the first place.
I say good job to all the people that bought the Switch bundles on Black Friday. Welcome to the Nintendo Switch family!
