Arguably the best way to experience Nintendo's SNES library on the Switch is with one of the original controllers. Unfortunately, getting hold of one within North America in recent times has been quite tough due to ongoing demand.
Now, though, after an update last week, the wireless Super Nintendo controllers designed exclusively for the Switch are back in stock. Each one will set you back $29.99 and comes with a USB cable to recharge the controller with. You can purchase a maximum of four controllers per Nintendo account.
To be able to purchase this item, you'll need to be subscribed to Nintendo's Switch Online service and obviously be located in North America. To order one of these controllers right now, click the link below.

I still say you're better off buying one of the 8BitDo 3rd party controllers that actually have all modern buttons and can be used with any game, but hey, these are neat too, I guess.
Bought mine today. I thought about buying 2, but I decided to get the 8bitdo for second controller .
The NA version is so bland and boring lol
I can’t purchase! It won’t log me in when I go to that freaking page... some sort of glitch.
It won’t let me login, yet on any other page I’m fine... ugh.
Ordered 2! Happy!

@HeavyArms55 I see this often and understand the sentiment ... but I disagree. Playing a precision platformer (Mega Man Legacy Collection) with the NES/SNES controller vs. my 8BitDo SF30 Pro shows the quality of Nintendo's controller. Nintendo's classic d-pads are just far more precise, as well as their controllers having generally better feel to the face buttons. I can only speak to the 8BitDo that I have, and it is a tremendously versatile and reasonably priced controller. But if you can spring for Nintendo's NES/SNES controllers, I highly recommend it. I did.
Thank you NintendoLife just ordered 2! I should be set!
Got 4!!! Debating if i should use my second switch online account to order more .. 😝 don't judge lol
Finally! I was able to order one.
Got it! Think I'll use it for Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection!
@adam9431 I only judge scalpers... Are you a scalper?
@KayFiOS i legitimately have a slight Nintendo obession ... my intent is to open 4, keep 2 unopened, and give 2 to my siblings
Thanks for the heads up! Finally secured 1 for me n 1 for my bro. 8BitDo is great, but there’s nothing like the og.
@megasean It’s the same argument as when people preached about Raspberry Pi when NES/SNES Classics came out. Is it a more affordable and a more rational decision? Yes. I don’t care what’s rational, I’m going for nostalgia.
@QBertFarnsworth Well, I do think it's different in that there's an actual quality difference that sometimes only becomes apparent when playing demanding games. But, yes, nostalgia too!
@Heavyarms55 modern buttons. Enough said. The SNES controllers are meant for nostalgic feel and play. Honestly they work better than any 8 bit crapo.
Nice, grabbed a second one - I already have one from the earlier release. Love the D-pad (and the controller in general) for all my 2D platforming games (e.g. Celeste).
Nice, now waiting for an EU re-release so I can grab one.
@Dirty0814:
I got several 8bitdo controllers that I use on my Switch. I really can’t agree with you on this. I recently bought the SN30 Pro + controller and it is my favorite controller on the Switch, by a mile… And yes, I have a Pro Controller too..
I bought 2 this morning. I missed the first time they went on sale because I was out of town, and they sold out before I got online. Same thing for the 2nd time too. But this time, I was home, and knew they were coming at some point this month, so I just kept refreshing the page in a different tab, the past several days, until it finally said it was available in stock this morning. So finally picked mine up. So now I have the NES controllers, and soon, the SNES controllers.
Man, I really want one but not having the share button would suck, I love taking clips of gameplay
Ordered 2! Thank you for the heads up!!!
@TimboSlice Me too, for whatever reason my credit card won't work on both their website and the Switch eshop, but it'll work for the 3DS shop.
Finally secured one. It's this really happening? Hopefully they update the SNES app soon with better games.
Just ordered mine! Thanks.
In the EU no sign of the controller...….
Anyone from a country where Nintendo isn't officially operating got a way to order one of these? I live in Brazil, we can subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online through secondary channels (only from their webpage), but shipping is restricted to US and Canada. It is sad that I'm willing to pay the full converted price, which turns out to be expensive for our standards, but can't do it.
I'm shocked a day later they're still in stock so I was able to buy one. Hopefully I get more use out of one than I did my NES ones.
Didn't check yesterday but luckily the Canadian store still had some. Now to wait for the mailman
@Swizze They may LOOK bland, but what I prefer about them are the two concave buttons for Y and X that they have, as opposed to the European ones being all convex. I know it might be a very slight difference, but for some reason while I prefer the colours to the European/Australian controller, there's just something about the buttons that make them feel just a bit lower quality than the North American ones. Granted, I'm probably biased because I grew up using the North American ones.
@Swizze - Eye of the beholder
EU tooooooo plz
Heck yeah! Finally got one. I have two 8BitDo controllers already, but this is a treat for me anyway...
I didn't even see this post until today, but thankfully they were still in stock! Finally, finally, grabbed my controller!
Cant' believe these stayed in stock until today (pay day)! Got myself one ordered!
