Update (Fri 6th Mar, 2020 11:20 GMT): More stock of the NES controllers for Nintendo Switch are now available in Europe. As before, the price has been slashed by 50%, meaning you can grab a pair for £24.99.
If you missed it, the SNES controllers are have also been restocked today. You can grab those here.
Update - Thu 5th Dec, 2019 22:15 GMT: This half-price offer for the wireless NES controller set is now live in America. Just remember, to purchase this item you'll need to have a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Original Story - Thu 5th Dec, 2019 05:05 GMT: To celebrate the NES library on the Switch reaching 50 games, Nintendo has announced it is hosting a special sale on its online store. This sale reduces the wireless NES controllers that are compatible with Nintendo's Online app to half price.
This 50% discount takes the price of the controller from $59.99 down to $29.99 (in Japan, Famicom controllers are 40%). The NES controller will be on sale from tomorrow until 10th January next year. This deal is exclusive to Nintendo Switch users with a paid membership, so you'll have to sign up before you can buy a set.
Once you've made the transaction, it'll take 1-2 days to process. You're also limited to a single set of controllers per Nintendo account. Just like Joy-Con, these controllers can be charged by the Switch. There are also special L and R buttons at the top of each controller, adding a modern touch to the classic design.
Will you be taking advantage of this offer? Let us know.

Two for the price of one... Not bad.
I think these should have been originally $30 as the full price lol
Eeeeeeh... maybe ?
I guess ?
I'd rather have SNES controllers really.
I'll bite providing I can get a chance to buy tomorrow. Still I bought one of the SNES controllers and am probably okay with that alone.
@gloom came here to say the same thing.
In any case these never really appealed to me, I bought (and probably overpaid for) a SNES one on day 1 though.
BTW does anyone know if these and the SNES controllers can be used as regular controller, for say something like shovel Knight and star dew?
Think I’ll wait for SNES controller sale.
Or just buy a NES classic with the 2nd controller which is cheaper and a better deal than this(You can also “enhance” it as well, instead of waiting for Nintendo to add 2 games to the library every 28 months).
Great, this means we’ll get the SNES controllers half off when they hit 50 games in about 2 years at the current rate...
“ You're also limited to a single controller per Nintendo account.”
A single controller, or a single SET of controllers? It sells as a two-pack, right?
@BAN Yep, a single set.
No, I'm good.
So if we paid full price last year, we can’t buy these discounted ones?
Not in Europe of course
They're dumping stock.
I don't plah many games on the nes and snes app tbh. Too many games on sale on the eshop that I have 17 titles (that's not including ports I completed before and bought again) to even start...
You speak, they react.
@Liam_Doolan Cool beans, thanks for the reply. Just wanted to be sure.
@607jf
I have a couple of snes one's and they work for some games but not all, I guess it depends on button configuration.
wtf I got a pair a month ago
Doesn't seem to be on for North America.
Is it worth paying this much for controllers that only work with N.E.S. games?
@607jf I use my SNES controller to play street fighter anniversary but they lack a home button but I’m guessing any game that uses digital input instead of analog would be ok I just have a joycon handy so I can go back to the home screen when I need to
@m8e3point1415 : Just slide them down the rails. Moderate damage to and/or inoperability of your Switch Lite is normal.
DISCLAIMER: Any charging that may take place is purely coincidental.
buys another 8bitdo controller instead
There is literally no point in their existence. get an *-bitdo and play NES and SNES confortably.
I got a snes mini, plugged a pendrive in it for extra storage and added a hundred games more, then got a couple of 8bitdo wireless controllers.
No annoying subscriptions (I already have to pay for a dozen of them, but thanks anyway), no need to hope for my best games to be released, no disappointments.
ItJustWorks™.
Ok, it won't switch, but I still got my old 2ds.
@FTPinkRabbit "The NES controller will be on sale from tomorrow until 10th January next year."
@607jf As long as the game uses the Dpad for moving around and not for some special functions (like BotW), it should work. I used them for collection of mana, for example.
Thanks, but no thanks. I'll stick to my far superior 8bitdo controllers 👍
Will this be in UK/Europe as well?
8bitdo is offering better controllers for much cheaper.
I like that for the newer SNES controller not the older version. Or better yet refund those whom first bought it if they want to make it right.
Already own both the pair of NES controllers and a pair of SNES controllers
@Hagemaru Nintendosoup is selling them with the 50% off, so you could try that as well
I'd consider getting a second pair if I could. The original price was sorta steep, but this feels like a real deal.
I'll try to get my hands on these. Too hard to justify the $60 when nobody cares about NES games in my household but me, but $30 is the right price!
Now THAT is something I might not be able to pass up. This seems more like what the price should be. I know they’re quality coming from a Nintendo and all, but the normal price of $60 is just too steep, especially for controllers for games I hardly play.
I was considering getting these for Shovel Knight Treasure Trove and Mega Man Legacy Collection, among other games, but the price always deterred me from doing so. You can get 2 controllers for the NES Classic for $20, and considering these don't have HD Rumble or IR/motion sensors, I doubt the tech inside is worth the extra $20 per controller. This is definitely a solid deal, so I'll order them once the deal goes up.
No Nintendo, I said I wanted the SNES controller!
$79.99 in Canada.
Edit: when I actually added it to the cart it comes up as 38.99 CAD.
The deal is live now! Just ordered mine!
Finally showed up for 50% off
$5 for basic shipping as well
$37.09 for me
I want my SNES controller that got returned to Germany after they sent it to Oldham left it there for two weeks and then sent it back. No try to re send, just I will have to reorder when stock is back in. WAIT A SECOND! You have my stock!
What a joke
@w00dm4n I ended up spending the extra $5 for faster shipping. I want to be able to play Shovel Knight with these as soon after I get the physical copy as possible.
@PiXeLSteF Yup, we get to eat poo again. >.>
Might have been an idea to stick North America in the title, got hopes up there.
Still shows €59.99 in Europe, i’ll Pass on that price.
@Hagemaru After shipping it wouldn't be much different.
Ordered. Should have before xmas 🙂
@ummyeahnintendo if u been to Nintendo.com in the last month you would have read January 2020 for more snes controller
Ordered mine...now In January I'll be on top of the snes controller
Come on Nintendo UK, I want my NES controllers.
THESE WERE 60$ ?????!!! wtf
I wound up getting them. I have been interested in them since they were announced but couldn't justify paying full price for them...
Even at 2 for 1 I was quite disappointed. I wish more NES style games and compilations accepted it.
Done! Also got a piece of SNES controller to send a friend in USA who wanted the European one.
Do this with the SNES ones and it’s a deal.
Still not interested, because I rarely use the Switch at home, and when I do I don't usually play the NES games. Besides, being controllers unusable in other platforms they strike me as expensive anyway, even with the 50%.
£8.50 delivery! Well that's saved me £25 then!
@607jf I think so. I've played the Street Fighter Colllection and Cato Roboto (or whatever that Metroidvania game with the robot cat is called) using the SNES controller
@ViewtifulJotun I think it's because, for some reason, they're shipped from Germany
@607jf yeah I use the SNES one for Shovel Knight and it's perfect!
@Shinnos well that's a pain for me. I mainly play handheld so these would be a novelty and not see much use. I really like the look and feel of the NES controller but over £30 for a novelty if just too much!
Ordered these last time they were on discount, but Nintendo of Europe ****ed it up somehow, telling me three weeks later I’d get a refund, and that if I still wanted them I’d have to order again (full price).
If this was half off in America, I would buy one for sure. I'm not paying $59.99 for a couple controllers that I will use maybe once every other month.
I just ordered a pair, that’s a reasonable price, perfect for some table top 2 player NES games at work
Eew. Still full price in Australia. I would be keen otherwise.
