Re: Poll: Was The Nintendo DS Prototype Really So Ugly?

OrtadragoonX

The prototype was a mess. It was the polar opposite of the PSP prototype.

DS Prototype: Ugly as sin but it looks useable.
PSP Prototype: Looked amazing but that thing looked completely useless.

The launch versions of both systems improved on their prototypes. The launch DS was still ugly but it looked alot better. And the PSP retail looked a little less clean but it added an analog nub and was actually functional with raised face buttons and what not.

@JSC016

If I'm not mistaken all SD cards load a bit slower than the internal memory since it has a "longer" path to travel if you get what I mean. The internal NAND has an almost direct connection to the APU so it will always be faster.

With that said, I never found it noticeable. I'm probably going to get a 1 TB card this Christmas and move my games over to it cause I've finally filled up the 256 gig card I bought with my Switch back in 2019 and I've had to delete a few games.

I can carry it forward since they confirmed Switch 2 to have full BC.

Speaking as someone who got beat down by a pro tournament player in Street Fighter V online once I’ll tell you that it’s actually really entertaining losing to someone that much better than you. You learn a lot just watching them. I also got reamed by SonicFox in a Mortal Kombat match once and it was honestly beautiful watching him play even though I was the one getting beat down on.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Final Fantasy Game? Rate Your Favourite Mainline & Spin-Offs

@Harmonie

You’ve got to play IV. IV sort of set the standard for how modern Final Fantasies tend to function. I recommend the original JP version with a fan patch if you want a real fair challenge. Play the DS version if you really want it to be hard. Stay away from the American FFII; they dumbed it down way too much. And the PS1 Chronicles version is a technical Trainwreck so avoid that version too.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Final Fantasy Game? Rate Your Favourite Mainline & Spin-Offs

OrtadragoonX

Wooh for me it’s…

1. Final Fantasy IV DS
2. Final Fantasy VII Remaster
3. Final Fantasy IX Remaster
4. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
5. Final Fantasy V Pixel Remaster (not that version itself but the strength of FFV’s main game carries it)

It’s not on the list but my absolute favorite title in the series is the original Final Fantasy Tactics on PS1 with a fan patch to give it the PSP translation.

Re: Talking Point: If 'Switch 2' Is Backwards Compatible, What Will You Do With Your Switch?

Man I’m so sorry you’re having to go through that.

My son was just born a week ago. And I can’t even begin to comprehend how I’ll stay sane when I have to go back to work in another week or so.

Like this little guy has changed my entire outlook on life. I haven’t even played any of my video games since we brought him home. All I want to do is have him lay on my chest while I read or watch tv. It’s the happiest I have ever been. When he looks at me and I look back into his eyes I damn near cry every time.

With that said, some of the nights have been ROUGH. But it’s getting easier every day as me and my girlfriend learn more about his patterns.

Re: Soapbox: 'Switch 2' Doesn't Really Need Backwards Compatibility

OrtadragoonX

It needs BC. For all the reasons mentioned by other posters. It’s especially key for those of us who invested in a digital library on Switch.

They’ve got no excuse. Plus Nintendo has a history of including BC with its handhelds. And the Switch is primarily a handheld despite many of us mostly using it docked.

Too bad in every other way it’s worse than the PS1 version.

The PS1 version is the definitive version of MGS1. The original music and voice acting takes a dump on The Twin Snakes version.

A ton of MGS’s personality was lost in The Twin Snakes version. Plus the MGS2 mechanics that were added without changing the boss fight routines or Shadow Moses’ layout makes the GameCube version way too easy.

Only thing I feel was really improved was the graphics and that they revamped the fetch quests for the Sniper Rifle and the PAL Card sequences to make them way less annoying.

Series X has the same problem. A lack of proper current generation exclusives.

But then again exclusivity is a dying thing anyway. Almost everything (sans Nintendo) comes out on PC these days. And with lower powered devices like Steam Deck becoming mainstream (meaning developers have to pay attention and optimize for them) only means that software will ultimately never take full advantage of all the hardware we have available. Which I’m fine with.

I love my PS5 and I’ve had some great experiences on it. I’m sure Xbox players feel the same too. Both consoles have great games.

Re: Review: F-Zero 99 - A Brilliant Battle-Royale Revival That Plays To The Series' Strengths

OrtadragoonX

This has been my “before bed” game every night since it dropped. It’s a ton of fun to do a few races.

If not for Resident Evil 4 Remake on PS5 (which I’m also currently playing) I’d probably be completely cracked out on F-Zero 99.

Speaking of which, for those of you with a Series X or PS5 or a good PC, play RE4 remake. In my opinion so far it’s the best remake of a game ever made.

@Ryu_Niiyama

I had it on PC way back in the day and I can tell you it’s worth playing the campaign.

Multiplayer was fire back in the day as well. I played the Germans exclusively in multiplayer. They’re hard to start a match with but once you’ve got some good resource points coming in from your CPs (basically points on the map you capture; these serve as your resource generator and should be your key objective early in a match; build lots of motorcycles/jeeps depending on faction and lots of infantry to get to them quickly and set up defenses around them) you could start pumping out antitank guns and Tiger tanks and really overwhelm an opponent.

The American faction had better “special” abilities such as the P-47 strafe runs (trust me you do not want to be on the receiving end of that) but their units are generally weaker than the German units. Although accurate to WWII history the American faction does dominate destroying cover and moving over terrain foibles with units like the Sherman Calliope. The German faction plays a lot slower and you have to work against that. Also I will say that once you unlock the Sherman Flamethrower tanks things go out of control. They’re vulnerable but if you can get one near buildings you’ll wipe the infantry taking cover inside almost instantly.

Also be sure to take advantage of natural cover. You can put infantry and machine gun teams in buildings like houses and barns and they’ll deploy at the windows. They get a big defense boost to small arms fire (infantry is very vulnerable in this game) and can also ambush and demolish any enemy infantry teams scouting and going to CPs. Also your armored vehicles take damage based on facing; if you run into anti tank guns or enemy tanks always reface so that the frontal armor is out front. Sometimes shots just deflect off and do no damage. If you get caught from behind your vehicles are done. Because everything is lethal as hell in this game. Even the infantry anti-tank teams can destroy Shermans and Tigers pretty easily if you can sneak them from behind.
