Re: Feature: Nintendo Life eShop Selects - June 2017

OfNullAndVoid

Loved the Pirate's Curse, so I'll eventually get half-genie hero. The only problem I had with the Pirate's Curse was the final dungeon, which felt as though it was made just to kill the player. Does anyone know if the final dungeon for half-genie hero is similar? It won't dissuade me from getting it, just wondering though.

Re: Feature: The NES and SNES Mini Could Live On Through Nintendo Switch

OfNullAndVoid

I'd love to see this as an option, not just for the NES and SNES, but N64, and perhaps GameCube as well, and then multiple collections to cover as many games as possible. But this should be just one option, as I'd love to see individual games being sold as well (account bound please Nintendo) as another option, and then the additional option of paying $20 for Switch Online for access to NES and hopefully SNES games.

Btw, does anyone else feel it's not a coincidence that the SNES mini is getting discontinued end of 2017, and that Switch Online should start at the start of 2018?

And speaking of Switch Online, I am still hoping it'll include all the NES/SNES games library that they'll put on the Switch. I know it might not be likely (they might only put up a portion), but hey, a guy can dream right?

Re: Nintendo Promises 'Significantly More Units of Super NES Classic Edition', But Only in 2017

OfNullAndVoid

@KirbyTheVampire My thoughts exactly. While I would prefer them to have this and the NES classic mini available continuously, I also understand them not wanting to compete with their latest console.

That said, IF they include SNES titles in the Switch Online subscription, and IF it'd include the games available on the SNES classic edition, I'd almost rather pay $20/year. Of course, not everyone who wants this wants a Switch, so I feel sorry for people like that who wouldn't be able to get their hands on this.

Re: Sega Forever Manager Blames Mobile Fragmentation For Shortcomings

OfNullAndVoid

I have trouble with their blaming the different operating systems. Sega has re-released plenty of their games, time and again, on both phones and consoles, with no issues. I find it harder to believe that they supposedly can't get it to run properly on iPhone, when you only have to account for one OS (iOS), and subtle upgrades in hardware. I think they just jumped the gun and released to soon.

Re: Sonic The Hedgehog Turns 26 Today

OfNullAndVoid

Happy Up, Down, Left, Right, A + Start Sonic!

I haven't played a Sonic since Sonic Adventure 2, but Sonic Mania might be the first in a long time I'll play again. My favorite is Sonic 3 & Knuckles, particularly due to different shields in the game.

So Sega, how about celebrating it on the Switch with some Sega Forever?

Re: Sega Forever Launch Marred By Terrible Emulation

OfNullAndVoid

Shame about the issues, hopefully they'll smooth things out over time. That said, haven't some of these games been ported over to modern systems many times before? Did these work flawlessly, or were they marred by issues as well? If they worked flawlessly, then what's gone wrong with this conversion?

Re: Sega Forever Aims To Revive The Company's Past On Mobile, But Could Come To Switch

OfNullAndVoid

I like that they're doing this, but I definitely would prefer another format other than mobile. If Sega were to bring it to the Switch I'd definitely be playing it, despite the commercials.

Hopefully they can work out the Saturn and Dreamcast support. I never had a chance to play any Saturn games, and I feel I missed out on quite a bit, but the Dreamcast has had some games I would love to play again. Anyone for a round of Ooga Booga?

Re: Review: Shantae: Half-Genie Hero (Switch eShop)

OfNullAndVoid

@Kosmo I tend to prefer the original language of a game/book/movie whenever possible, as something always seems to be lost in translation. That said, I only know English/Dutch, so typically I play most games in English.

An example is sayings/proverbs. Often times I see Dutch sayings/proverbs translated to English when there's no such saying/proverb in English. For instance, the saying "Hoge bomen vangen veel wind" translates to "Tall trees catch a lot of wind". Basically it means that those in a position of high responsibility catch a lot of criticism.

Of course, it's always good to see translations for those who haven't learned additional languages. That said, I feel bad when it looks like it's been translated by Google Translate or similar services.

Re: Metroid Prime 4 Confirmed For Nintendo Switch, But Retro Studios Isn't Involved

OfNullAndVoid

I felt like the whole presentation was a series of slaps. I went in with the idea we'd see some Splatoon 2, ARMS, XC2, Mario, and maybe 1 or 2 surprises. Nintendo just came in and was like SLAP! Here's Metroid Prime 4! SLAP! Here's Return of Samus! SLAP! Here's a new Kirby! SLAP! Here's a new Yoshi! SLAP! Here's a Pokémon Switch announcement! SLAP! Here's Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga!

Not just that, but both Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Mario Odyssey looked great!

Anyway, back from that tangent, I wonder if Retro is working on another Donkey Kong, maybe a 3D one this time? Even if it isn't, it'll be interesting to find out what they're doing... Maybe another SLAP!?

Re: Metroid: Samus Returns Resurrects Game Boy Classic "In A Completely New Way", Says MercurySteam

OfNullAndVoid

Can't wait for this game. The last Metroid game I played was Other M, and I've been looking forward to a side scrolling Metroid again. Of course, Metroid Prime 4 is well on my radar as well, though who knows how long it'll be until that gets released.

I'll definitely be getting the case with the music in it, just so I can play the Magmoor Caverns music over and over.

Re: Rainway, An App Targeting PC Streaming to Nintendo Switch, Lines Up Announcement

OfNullAndVoid

It feels like this is something Nintendo would normally put up a wall against. Maybe it allows streaming games from your PC with caveats? My biggest concern is the chance of streaming emulators from the PC to the Switch, which I seriously doubt Nintendo would dismiss as a possibility. Looking forward to what they have to announce though, because of these and other questions I have.

Re: Snakebyte Wants To Boost Your Nintendo Switch Battery

OfNullAndVoid

I like the idea of it snapping on like the SwitchCharge, but at the moment I'm more interested in something I can use with all my devices, at the cost of portability. That said, I haven't had any problems with running out of power on my Switch so far, so I won't be getting that or any other battery unless it becomes an issue.

Re: Talking Point: EA and Bethesda Highlight Nintendo Switch as a Portable Powerhouse at E3

OfNullAndVoid

@Faruko True, I guess I was exaggerating. I think though, with each graphical increase, I've noticed some developers to eager to push the limits of graphics, while forgetting the most important aspect of a game: gameplay. My most memorable encounters were at the time when CD games became all the rage on PC. A friend of mine bought both Megarace and Star Wars Rebel Assault, and I think both of them were good examples of technology before gameplay.

Re: Talking Point: EA and Bethesda Highlight Nintendo Switch as a Portable Powerhouse at E3

OfNullAndVoid

I'm personally fine with not being able to play 4k games @60fps, or VR, or anything along those lines, since I always held gameplay over graphics. As I always like to point out, I still enjoy playing C64 games in all their glorious 320x200 resolution

Even if Skyrim or FIFA isn't going to look as great as their PS4/XBOne counterparts, I still wouldn't mind. I'm probably not going to get either though. I already finished Skyrim on PC, and for some reason it didn't entertain me as much as previous games in the series. As for FIFA, I typically don't get sports games anyway. That said, I do hope they do well enough so EA/Bethesda continue to release games for the Switch.

And to wrap it all up, I actually do enjoy Elder Scrolls Online, and kinda hope it'll get a Switch release. Since the PC version has enough graphics settings I hope it's a possibility.

Re: Pictlogica Final Fantasy Is Picross With Chocobos, And It's Coming To 3DS

OfNullAndVoid

I'd love to see this arrive here, I'm always up for a game of picross. I enjoyed the Twilight Princess Picross, as well as Pokémon picross, so I don' see why I won't enjoy this as well.

As far as the free part is concerned, I've managed to make my way through most of Pokémon picross without having to pay, so if this one follows a similar model, it shouldn't bother me to bad.

Re: AtGames Is Refreshing Its Sega Genesis Line Of Clone Systems For 2017

OfNullAndVoid

I'm rather hoping Sega will talk with Nintendo about the Switch Online service. I would love to see Master System/Game Gear/Megadrive games as part of the subscription package. Doubtful it'll happen, but if it did it would sell me on the service.

Of course, then there's supposed to be Sega Forever, though the only information I've found about it is that it's going to be for mobiles. Let's hope Sega is considering looking beyond that.

Re: Mana Series Collection Starts Well in Japan as Switch Stays on Top

OfNullAndVoid

Hopefully they'll release the Seiken Densetsu Collection here. I only ever played Secret of Mana, and only because I rented it after borrowing a friend's SNES (I went the Genesis route to compliment my friend's SNES, in order to enjoy the best of both worlds). I have some fond memories of that game, and wouldn't mind playing it and others in the series as well.

Re: The Witcher 3 And Assassin's Creed Devs Heap Praise On Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

OfNullAndVoid

The one thing that BotW has that hooked me is the ability to climb almost any surface. I've played other open world games while playing BotW, and when I run into mountain/hill/whatever borders it's actually bugging me now.

And thanks to all who mentioned XCX. I was trying to think of another game to play while I wait for the Korok mask, and I still need to finish that. My bad habit of dropping a game in favor of a new game made me stop playing that :-/

I'd also like an XCX for Switch port, especially if they increase the font size.

Re: Poll: Did the ARMS Global Testpunch Land a Knockout Blow?

OfNullAndVoid

The testpunch definitely was fun. It was on my probably not list before, but now it's on my eventually list. That's actually a good thing, since typically I don't consider fighting games at all. The only ones I ever bought were the Smash Bros series, Soul Calibur 1/2, and Tekken 3. Only Smash Bros gets me interested these days.

Re: Nintendo Switch OS Version 2.3.0 Is Now Live

OfNullAndVoid

So stable, I was able to fit a horse in my Switch.

On a side note, disassembling the horse was easy, but I can't find instructions on how to reassemble it, so if anyone knows how to please let me know. Does anyone also know a good cleaning service? My house is a mess now and it's starting to smell.

Oh, and my switch now runs faster, especially when I put carrots into it.

Re: Okami - Amaterasu 'Life Size Bust' Announced by First 4 Figures

OfNullAndVoid

@roy130390 I actually got Okami for the Wii after seeing it for $10. I think it was marked wrong, since afterwards I only ever saw it being sold for $20, so I lucked out in many ways, since I feel it's one of those hidden gems. I never got Okamiden when it was released, but now that I have a New 3DS XL (somewhat recently) it's on my list of games to get.

I also keep hoping for a sequel. If they'd crowdfund it I'd jump right in. Or maybe Nintendo can get involved like they did with Bayonetta 2? I guess I'll just keep dreaming for now...

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is Still Due to Arrive in 2017, Which is Nice

OfNullAndVoid

I loved both XC and XCX, though my preference goes to XC. One thing I did love about XCX were the skells. I ended up changing colors and names to match Transformers G1. I'm sure I'm not the only one. That said, I can't wait for XC2. I wonder how close it'll be released to the new Mario, though I'd probably get XC2 first since I prefer RPGs.

Re: Rainway App Promises 60fps Streaming Of PC Games To Consoles Like The Nintendo Switch

OfNullAndVoid

My main concern with this is emulated software. Will they work on a way to prevent users from running any emulators? I'm sure Nintendo wouldn't be to happy to see users streaming Nintendo's old systems to the Switch, basically circumventing whatever systems/games they might put on the Virtual Console.

Another concern would be third party games. Would people be bothered to buy the game for the Switch if they can get it for their PC, then stream it not just to the Switch but any other systems as well?

Honestly, I would still love to see this happen, but I'm rather skeptical Nintendo would let this happen on the Switch.

Re: Feature: 30 Games We Might Get On The SNES Mini Classic Edition

OfNullAndVoid

@subpopz
They might consider releasing them as part of another 'afternoon collection', this time with snes era games. Then again, they could do an 'all of the above' option, where they release an afternoon collection, have them included on a snes mini, and possibly even Switch VC.

That said, I never got to play the snes Disney games, since I had a Sega Megadrive, so it'd be fun to try those I've missed. I do have very fond memories of the Megadrive Disney games though, I played Aladdin, Castle of Illusion, Jungle Book, Lion King, QuackShot (my favorite actually), Mickey Mania and World of Illusion.

Re: Star Wars: Rogue Squadron Studio Factor 5 Is Apparently Back From The Dead

OfNullAndVoid

@Yorumi
I was thinking the same. I'm even entertaining thoughts of them working with Nintendo to use the Star Fox franchise, though I feel gameplay-wise Star Fox does not quite equal Rogue Squadron. Maybe a spin-off would work?

Hopefully though they can talk to Disney and let them continue and/or remake the Rogue Squadron series.

As for Turrican, I would love to see that back. From time to time I still pick up & play Turrican 1/2 (C64) and Mega Turrican (Genesis).
