Re: Rainway Beta Is Live, But There's Nothing But Disappointment For Switch Owners

OfNullAndVoid

I've tried it and it still has a way to go, but that's to be expected of a beta I guess. As far as the Switch version goes, I would love to have this so I can play my PC games handheld style, but I'm skeptical it will come to the Switch for reasons I've mentioned before.

It grabs whatever you have in your steam library, as well as other libraries (Blizzard's Battle.Net app, and I'm sure others as well), but the problem with steam is that you can import emulators into it. I tested the app and it actually picked it up, and with the right setup it's possible to play emulated games. Unless they can prevent that, I think Nintendo will slam the gate shut on them getting their app on the Switch.

If it doesn't come to the Switch I won't be to worried, since I like the idea of being able to play games through a browser. Of course, the lag I'm currently experiencing will need to be improved, but as I said, it's a beta, so I'm not expecting optimal performance.

Re: Freedom Planet On The Wii U Just Got A Sizable Update

OfNullAndVoid

@abbyhitter I got it from the Humble Bundle deal as well, and along with Shantae it's so far been one of my favorites. I still have to try some of the other games (backlog's a pain), but I'll probably play it again because of this update.

With regards to that Humble Bundle, I've yet to play Citizens of Earth, Nano Assault EX, Runbow, and Swords and Soldiers II. I started Darksiders II and Retro City Rampage, both which I enjoyed but haven't touched in quite a while. For some reason I couldn't much get into Super Street Fighter IV, and I'm not much of a fan of Rhythm games, so Rhythm Thief would probably be the last to be played.

Of course, I'm also looking forward to Freedom Planet 2!

Re: Review: WWE 2K18 (Switch)

OfNullAndVoid

@WiltonRoots Personally, I somewhat blame the advent of storage of consoles. PC users have had to deal with buggy games being patched long before consoles got their first hard drives. After consoles got their hard drives developers figured they could get away with what they were doing to PC users, and now the Switch has fallen victim as well.

Re: Rainway Team Says Talks With Nintendo Over Switch Version Are "Working Out Well"

OfNullAndVoid

I would still love for this to come to Switch, but I still remain skeptical. My main concern is that people would use it to stream (Nintendo) emulators to the Switch, something which would make Nintendo not allow this on the Switch. A workaround would be for them to have a library of allowed games, which would also work in Nintendo's favor of keeping games from being streamed to the Switch which are both on the Switch and PC, such as Doom and Skyrim.

Still, I'm hoping for the best and Nintendo will allow this on the Switch, as I would definitely use this to stream plenty of games to the Switch, from the comfort of my recliner.

Re: Guide: How to Download Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Early on iOS and Android

OfNullAndVoid

While I'm eager to play this, I'll skip taking all these steps so I won't be cluttered with different accounts. Besides, I'm still playing AC:NL, so I can keep myself busy with that. I finally managed to get T&T Emporium, and am getting close to getting all the upgrades to my house. I also can't wait to see what the Halloween event will be like!

Speaking of which, I wonder if there'll be a Halloween event for AC:PC next Tuesday. If there is then those Australians lucked out!

Re: Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Will Arrive on Mobile in Late November

OfNullAndVoid

@rjejr I actually had a Windows phone until recently. After some poor decisions on Microsoft's part, I finally jumped ship last weekend. I guess I couldn't have done it at a better time, seeing how much I enjoy Animal Crossing.

From first impressions the micro transactions don't look to intrusive, and more like the old "speed up this process" affair, which I've been able to live with on quite a number of mobile games.

One thing I hope is that this will familiarize people with AC who've never played it, and attract them to get the main entries in the series. And hopefully, if there's going to be a Switch version, they'll include some kind of connectivity feature between it and AC: Pocket Camp.

Re: Animal Crossing for Mobile is All Set for a Nintendo Direct Reveal This Week

OfNullAndVoid

Can't wait to see what they've got in store for Animal Crossing on mobiles, I've been waiting for some kind of announcement for a long time. I was kind of disappointed though to see the "No Switch or 3DS news", as I'm eagerly awaiting the Switch game. I do hope there'll be some kind of connectivity between the mobile game and the Switch game.

Also, I just ditched my Windows Phone (you know, like Microsoft has been doing) to get a new iPhone, so it looks like I'm just in time to get into it Of course, I have a lot of catching up to do with Nintendo's offerings, but also Sega Forever (though I'll need some kind of gamepad for those, since I dislike the touch controls).

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - The Triumphant(?) Return

OfNullAndVoid

The same thing I do every weekend, try to take over the world! Of course, my gaming plans tend to interfere with that. Animal Crossing New Leaf is on the agenda, along with Pokémon Picross (I've fully completed 21/30 stages, though still have to do alt-world), and Kid Icarus Uprising (slowly getting there). My Switch has been waiting for Mario, and PC side I've been playing Elder Scrolls Online and Minecraft.

Of course, all that will be put on hold while I babysit a puppy. Life (and taking over the world) is tough

Re: Video: See the True Grunt of the Switch with Fire Emblem Warriors & Hyrule Warriors Compared

OfNullAndVoid

Graphics aren't my problem, having enough time/money to play all of the games I wish I could be playing is. Mostly time really due to work, but if I didn't work I wouldn't have the money so I couldn't buy the games but then I don't have time to play the games so I wish I could just not work to play the games which in turn leads me back into this rant...

Re: Digital Foundry Explores the Framerate and a Resolution Boost in Super Mario Odyssey

OfNullAndVoid

What? No 4k 120fps? Guess I'll go back to playing my C64 games...

But seriously, it's nice that they're more concerned with hitting 60fps. On the PC I regularly sacrifice resolution/visual effects so I can play 60fps, and I don't regret that loss.

Now as far as the release date is concerned, I wish it were here sooner... My gift cards are burning a hole in my pocket just waiting to be spent on this...

Re: Editorial: The SNES Classic Mini, Star Fox, and Downsides to Being a Mega Drive Kid

OfNullAndVoid

The only game on the snes classic I haven't played is super punch out. Most of the other games I played on the original SNES, with the console borrowed from a friend's brother-in-law, and renting a ton of games. I actually went the route of C64 to Sega Master System to Sega Megadrive to N64. I chose this route to complement the systems my friends had, so we could enjoy all the games on all the systems. It definitely was a fun-filled experience.

Re: Sega Dreamcast: Collected Works Looks Like A Dream Come True

OfNullAndVoid

I initially got the Dreamcast after playing Crazy Taxi on a ferry to London, but it didn't last long before I got plenty of other games as well. Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 (bring back the Chao!), Soul Calibur, Shenmue, Jet Grind (Set) Radio, Skies of Arcadia (come on, give us a sequel!), Power Stone 1 & 2, Chu Chu Rocket, Ooga Booga, Typing of the Dead, Bangai-O, Marvel vs Capcom, Metropolis Street Racer, NBA 2K2... I would love to see these games on the Switch one way or another...

Have you tried Streets of Rage Remake? I recently saw a video about it on YouTube, and it looks very interesting. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm planning to give it a shot this weekend. If it is good, Sega ought to get the team that did that remake to do a new Streets of Rage.

Re: Random: When Fans Go to the Next Level - Check Out Alex Kidd in Miracle World 2

OfNullAndVoid

The Master System was the first console I bought (the C64 being bought for me and my brothers by my parents). When I got it, it had Alex Kidd built in, and I bought Sonic the Hedgehog to go along with it. One thing I discovered early on about the rock-paper-scissors game was that they weren't exactly random, so you could memorize them and beat them anytime.

Sometimes I wish Sega would bring back Alex Kidd in a new platform game. I feel Sonic was more about speed, whereas Alex was more about platforming.

Re: GameStop Listing Hints At Physical Release For Sonic Mania On Switch

OfNullAndVoid

I'm always torn between the ease of not having to switch game carts vs the fondness of having a physical copy... Either way, I'm excited for this game, physical copy or not, as it will be the first Sonic game I've played since Sonic Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast.

On a side note, playing Sonic 1 currently, and still loving that game. I almost wish Mania would incorporate the bonus stages from that game on top of the ones they've already shown.

Re: Bask in Nostalgia With Sonic Mania Special and Bonus Stage Footage

OfNullAndVoid

Nooo! Not the Sonic 3 bonus stages! I always did well on the bonus stages from 1 & 2, but for some reason the ones on 3 posed more of a challenge for me. I still managed to tackle them though, so I'm willing to tackle these as well.

That said, what's the difference between the gold ring bonus stages and the checkpoint bonus stages? Gold rings used to be where you'd get the chaos emeralds, and checkpoints power-ups, if I remember right. Been so long since I played any of them, so maybe someone else can help me remember.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life eShop Selects - June 2017

OfNullAndVoid

@Filth_Element @MetalKingShield Thanks for the info. The final dungeon felt rather disappointing to me due to the sudden jump in difficulty. Fortunately it wasn't to long, so memorization was easy, and I was able to make it through.

I'll definitely put this one on my wish list. I'll also have to consider Shantae (the original) and Risky's revenge, since I haven't played those either.
