Re: Video: Check Out How Etika's 'Nintendo Switch' Was Produced

Nicolai

Honestly, if it weren't for the button font, I would have at least questioned its legitimacy. That, combined with the fact that we've been duped with 3D printing before, and I haven't even given it a second glance since its reveal.

But yeah, aside from the buttons, it looks really really good.

Re: Rumour: Last Wii U Consoles Roll Off The Production Line This Week

@Equinox: Technically, marketing is responsible for all of those things you listed. It's easy to forget that a company's market department practically designs everything about a product in an indirect way. Yeah, Nintendo has engineers, but they're mostly building prototypes around end goals that the marketing department came up with after analyzing the market. I'm certain they're responsible for 1) the name, and I'm sure it was their idea to make the Wii U unique at the expense of power, hence it being 2) underpowered. This naturally causes 3) lack of third party support, which therefore results in 4) no games for months.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Switch Isn't Physically Backwards Compatible With 3DS And Wii U Software

Nicolai

That's actually a big relief that I won't have to make any tough decisions on what to sell or trade back.

However, I guess it would have been really nice to sell my Wii U with its really gross-looking Gamepad. Plus, it has a bunch of controllers that needs regular charging, and double AA batteries. The Wii U isn't quite like previous retro consoles, where I can easily leave it collecting dust under my entertainment center until I get the urge to play. After months of Switch focus, I'll likely get the urge to play Splatoon, then realize after hooking it up to the TV that I have to charge the Gamepad. Then, someone wants to play smash, but none of my Wii U Pro controllers are charged, I'll have to dig the Gamecube adapter from the other room, and at some point I'll have used up all of my USB ports. The Wii U was actually a pretty complicated console, now that I think back on it, and with its accessories, takes up a lot of space.

Re: Poll: Exceptional Graphics or 60fps, Which is More Important for the NX Generation?

Nicolai

As someone who can't really tell anything above 720p anyway, I usually say that frame rate is more important. I think 60 fps is a must for fast-paced games, and while slower-paced games are okay at 30fps, 60fps is certainly welcome so that you can move your camera and still take in the nice view.

However, I'm no technical expert, but if the framerate and resolution came at the cost of the physic engine, I'd rather have the fancy lighting effects, shadows, large draw distances, anti-aliasing, etc, so long as the framerate is consistent and not choppy.

I'm no game developer, though, so feel free to call me out if anything I said was completely ignorant

Re: A New Pikmin Game is Coming to 3DS

Nicolai

I dunno about this... it really depends. The best case scenario is that someone at Nintendo really had a good idea, and Miyamoto thought that the Pikmin branding was the best option. I can see this as having some really cool puzzle elements in it if done right. Heck, maybe they could kinda merge the RTS and side-scrolling genres into one (unlikely, I know)! But if this was just the result of someone at Nintendo who said "let's just make Pikmin a side-scrolling platformer because why not?" then this game will likely be uninspired, like Yoshi's New Island or Chibi Robo zip-lash.

@123akis, I agree that we weren't really due for a full new 3D Pikmin game. Pikmin 3 is by no means outdated.

Re: Review: Hurry Up! Bird Hunter (Wii U eShop)

Nicolai

I was scrolling through the news page quickly, and for a second I thought this game stole its graphics from Breath of the Wild. I guess Nintendo's not the only one that's figured out that games on the Wii U look best with bright colors and lots and lots of glare.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo UK Hints at More Mario Kart 8 DLC

Nicolai

My gut tells me this is merely Nintendo following up on their social media by coming up with a cute harmless post. They may be using the # for its actual intended purpose, linking it in with other posts under the MK8 hashtag, because they know people are into Mario Kart 8.
