I would love to defend GamePad multi-tasking gameplay, but seeing as this looks like a pile of dung, I'll pass. No background music, the Flappy Bird naming convention? It's one of the many games that exist simply because people will download anything, despite minimal production resources. Still, I have a hunch that I wouldn't mind the challenge of paying attention to two screens as much as the reviewer.
I might pick it up for $5, just to scratch my frugal itch. I'm not really into survival horror, but if it was as low as $5, I might not even miss the cash. I can't find it for less than $13 if you add shipping costs, though, so I'd rather spend that money on some indie title.
I made fun of this when they tried to do Mario, but this is actually a wonderful experience! All the building were the same buildings from Ocarina of Time, but it all looked great, with the leaves falling, the puddles of water, the realistic parallax of the mountains in the background, and the music he used just tied it all together!
I'm confused... haptic feedback is a technology that's on almost every phone. How did Nintendo get a patent on existing technology? I assumed that someone already had a patent on it.
Nice idea you just snagged, Nintendo! I'm open to that.
On a separate note: Shall I be the one to state the obvious? Okay, here it goes. The patent doesn't require Nintendo to only use two face buttons. The only point of the patent is the scrolling shoulder buttons, and it has nothing to do with any lack of features.
He seems qualified, but I feel like I won't truly trust him until I hear him talk. I hope I can hear him in an interview, or a presentation, and see what kind of person he is, or what his philosophies are. If he was at Nintendo of America, he should probably have some good English.
@gatorboi352 Exactly. Since the beginning, the only thing unique about Wii U wasn't the tech itself, but the way Nintendo committed to the idea. You won't another system that has a game like Nintendo Land, or supports off-tv play on nearly all of their titles.
I thought that this design was more similar to the Wii U Gamepad, with it's screen that can search and display information about your show seamlessly while watching tv. It's like what Nintendo TVii could have been.
Eh, let it be on NX. It'll be good for the NX to have a solid launch title. We've already got a Wii U Pikmin game. Though I certainly won't complain if it's on Wii U, and I have less of a reason to buy the NX right away. It might encourage them to make it a different-enough experience, if they release it on a platform that already has one. But all the Wii U really needs is a Zelda game. If and when we get that, I can consider my Wii U library complete.
@The__Goomba @BoomtownFox
I've always heard it as "So long-y, Bowser!" Putting a -y at the end, like you do in the phrase "wake-y wake-y" or similarly in "No take-back-sies." I still hear it like that.
I want MattPat to win, though Geek and Sundry's level struck a certain chord with me. Maybe because it was the most original one, and it wasn't just putting your name in coins. So I voted for them.
It's like this weird world, with a princess that may or may not be Zelda, where a strange generation of the King is directing 3 hero's who might not even be Link. It's like a Zelda game that might not even be a Zelda game! All this ambiguity, it's such a weird way to deviate from traditional Zelda, but I kinda like it.
God, I hope they're both guilty. That kid is awfully young compared to the other. What if that eighteen-year-old had no idea the other was bringing weapons? Even if he was, he's still at that impressionable age. Who really knows what was happening before this?
Something like that would just make me madder at Stumbo, if he wrapped an innocent minor into this jail sentence for no reason.
I think Splatzones would be the best mode for this. Anything but turf wars, as turf wars isn't as intense. Everything is the same until the timer runs down, and is sometimes circumstantial. In ranked battle modes, winning is always a clear achievement and a monument to teamwork.
@Pod But my guess is that there will be some people who are already experienced at the game, but will want to download the testfire just to knock some easy targets for fun. Especially for people like me who are frustrated by how good everyone is online, cuz man, do I get my butt kicked in this game!
@Captain_Gonru I guess it depends on how much it matters. It's really a balancing act. Give it too much purpose, and players who don't want it feel like they have to. But give it no purpose, and even those who want it will feel like they're wasting their time. I guess I would have to play the game in order to see how much impact it has on gameplay.
@OneBagTravel
"It could last 10 years... if they just produce the right games."
Yes please! The 3DS is a great system. Producing a new console every 5 years is like tradition, but it's not even necessary at this point. I wouldn't mind a neat gimmick and way better specs for the next home console, but for handhelds, upgrades don't really matter that much. It would be nice to not have to keep buying handheld consoles.
Despite the faults listed in this review, I might actually enjoy this. I actually find non-traditional controls to be a plus. I wonder if I can find this at Gamestop or smaller trading store.
They need to cool it with the solid white background. It's fine for presentations, but something as casual as this should look like it's in a gamer's man-cave, or something cosy.
Question: is the team Marshmallows, or S'mores? Marshmallows are gross without the graham crackers and chocolate. I would vote on Team S'mores if that is the case.
Great! Since my YouTube channel is all about turning Splatoon music into 8-bit retro music, I was getting worried that I would run out of music to work on way too soon. I mean, I'll eventually move on to other games, but I can't get enough of Splatoon right now
I don't think so. Sounds interesting, but I don't think the average casual gamer is willing to put something over their heads and distract them from everyone else in the room. Just creating multiplayer games for it wouldn't make it social enough. It would have to be something that is very easy to put on and doesn't shut off all of the light in the room (which wouldn't be totally immersive, and would actually defeat the purpose of a VR headset). Maybe if they had attachments you could add on to the controller that shut off more light for single-player games, that might work. I dunno, call me a nay-sayer but Virtual Reality just seems like something that is entirely a closed-off experience.
I loved everything about it! The animation, the personalities, the voice actors, etc. I don't understand what happened at the end, but judging by the comments, I suppose I should have played more Banjo-Kazooie.
@FLUX_CAPACITOR Ah, I see. I read up on the article again for his reasons why he didn't attend E3, and It seems it was because "no new hardware is being shown." He then talked about the surgery, and how he looked thinner. Although suspicious nonetheless, I guess I was wrong.
@FLUX_CAPACITOR Erm, yes, that's my point. They said he was still recovering, but my point is that they just said this to cover it up, and that it was actually that the surgery wasn't successful.
I guess I should have seen this coming. I mean, he doesn't show up to E3 because he's STILL recovering from a surgery he had over a year ago? He probably already knew his fate by then, the poor man.
Iwata, you will be dearly missed. You revolutionized the game industry with your philosophies of expanding into a blue ocean, and opening the world to gaming with the Nintendo Wii, and your Iwata Asks and Nintendo Directs gave us invaluable insight into the games we all know and love. Thank You.
There should be an option to vote for a Holiday 2017 release. I want to focus on my Wii U for as long as possible before worrying about NX.
If the rumor is true about the NX being less powerful than PS4, then you can kiss your dreams of 3rd party support goodbye. By the time PS5/Nextbox come out, it'll be less powerful than the last generation. No 3rd party developer is going to want to make games at such tiny fractions of speed for the NX.
I also like transcripts. I'm often in situations where I'm in public but not talking to anybody, and watching something with sound would be disruptive to people around me. A video is only useful if I can just listen to it in the background, and with this video, I have to read the translation anyway.
@ULTRA-64, It might also be good to add a couple players on each team, too, so it's not so empty.
I'm kinda glad that Club Nintendo discontinued quickly here in the US. I spent all of my coins when the first rewards went up, and now I don't have to worry about something cooler coming up that I should have bought.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Tackles Criticisms of Bonus Features in Games
"...and it's hard to disagree with Sakurai-san."
I actually find it very way easy to disagree with him, though I agree with him in this instance. I didn't do every little extra in Pokémon X, and I still had fun. I understand that some people are completionists, and feel the need to complete every aspect of the game, but that doesn't mean that developers shouldn't include something unusual if a portion of their audience might be interested in it.
