Re: US Trader Rubs Salt Into Nintendo's Share Drop Wounds With $400 Million Bet Against The Company

Nicolai

"According to Bloomberg data, this is the largest trade against Nintendo since at least 2013 (shortly after the Wii U's disappointing launch)."
So what you're saying is, this is the first time this has happened since the last time this happened... yeah, this doesn't concern me one bit.

Nintendo has been doing so much right, people have got to be asking for the moon for this point if they're not satisfied. Sure they have a few kinks in the online department, but imo people are just being too demanding.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Isn't Concerned About Competitive Aspect Of Super Smash Bros.

Nicolai

>"We don't care about the competitive scene."
>(shows off game with a competition)

w... what?!

This is a game where even casual players get competitive over it, and loads of fans love watching high level play even if they don't engage in it themselves. I'm not saying this game has to be as technical as melee, but it seems a little odd how critical Sakurai is being about this side of the fanbase. Especially that talk about it being all about the money. That's assuming a lot, especially toward the people who love watching the competition, and engage in local competitions themselves just for fun.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate May Have Been Teased Years Ago In Smash For Wii U

Nicolai

This piece of evidence might be a stretch, but aside from this, I've actually suspected since the E3 trailer this year that they had the goal of including 70 characters for Smash 4, a roster with not only nearly every Nintendo protagonist but every major 3rd party mascots well. But they soon rralized it was take far more work than their budget allowed. So they set up their first game to introduce a lot of those 3rd party mascots in Smash 4, found that DLC was a great revenue source for continually adding new characters, and by the time Ultimate comes along, they simply have to put everything in the box and tie the bow. All while listening to fan demand even harder and tweaking it for one final mega-crossover project

Re: Splatoon 2 Hackers Are Forcing Unreleased Content Onto Other Players

Nicolai

@TheOpponent Hmm... unless its written somewhere in the NNID user agreements, the players had no way of knowing that they were supposed to quit the game immediately whenever they see hacker activity. And that would be pretty silly rule, too. Chucking your Switch into the fireplace because you think someone on your team might have survived a fully charged E-Liter shot or something.

Besides, their motivation wasn't to play unauthorized content, their motivation was to keep their league score up. You can't blame them for that, can you?

Re: Here's How A Nindie Developer Thinks The Switch eShop Could Be Improved

Nicolai

"made great efforts"
"is not doubt quite a bit friendly than"
"the original Wii Shop would they."
"Still visibility of games"
Please improve the quality of your language in your articles.

As for the content, some of these ideas might not work as well with the eShop only getting 5-15 new games a week, compared to a typical app store on your phone. I think the "recent releases" section is enough to keep me updated on what's new.

All of the other new features would be very welcome, like extra searching options and following developers <3, and customizable game pages. The eShop isn't broken, its just very rudimentary.

Re: Super Chariot Secures May Release Date And Physical Edition On Switch

Nicolai

At this point do I start saying that I'm sick of ports and releases. Surely it's been long enough where we could've been hearing about a chariot game with brand new levels?

News about ports usually don't bother me, but this one has triggered me somehow. I think its mostly because this game's title makes it sound like a sequel, so it's just extra disappointing to find out that its not.

Re: Review: Fe (Switch eShop)

Nicolai

Its a shame the author doesn't go more into detail about the subpar platforming. Is it frustrating but fair, or is it problematic? Do you clip through ledges, or have a delayed jump button, is it impossible to direct a jump or stay in one place, or is it just a little tricky? Does it have a natural flow to it, or does it feel random? Do the challenges in platforming relate to the story in any way?

As a fan of platformers, the straight gameplay is much more important to me than the plot, the visuals, and the language mechanics. And for a game with only 3 hours of material, I definitely don't want to spoil it with any gameplay videos.

Re: Video: Nintendo's Track Record With Direct Broadcasts Points to Another One Happening Very Soon

Nicolai

@TheMisterManGuy You missed my point. I'm not predicting the return of region-exclusive directs, I'm just saying the numbers provided are misleading, since Directs were done differently for nearly all of them listed above. Directs now are more sparse than they were in 2012 because Nintendo doesn't have to repeat the same information to each region.

To further my point, let's look at the most recent example. On Nov 2, 2016, we get a global Animal Crossing Direct, and 3 days later, Japan exclusively get one for Miitopia. That's not much to get hyped up about. These examples are never followed by a major Direct.

This specific bit of evidence is void, but you're right, there were other signs of a Direct soon. I just think it will more likely be in February. The 10 day average given above isn't likely.

Re: Splatoon 2 Designer Explains Why The Maps Rotate And Salmon Run Is Time-Limited

Nicolai

I'm surprised he said anything. He's right, and I suspected it, but there's no way "let us tell you what you want" is going to be met with understanding.

But he's right, you don't really understand how a game is supposed to be played until you're in it. I may have squid-bagged the closed entrance to Grizzco many times in despair, but if I'm honest with myself, I realize I wouldn't have played it for as many hours as I did if I was able to play it whenever.

Re: Miyamoto Was Worried How Players Would React To Mario Odyssey's New Donk City

Nicolai

@Dr_Lugae Well, I understand the reluctance of creating too many characters, but within moderation. I'm just talking about games like Paper Mario, which are starved for new characters and should at the very least be using it's old characters. And if Splatoon was a Mario game, it just wouldn't have been the same. There's definitely a lot to be gained from some fresh personalities in the story-focused games.

Also, SSB is gonma start running out of roster candidates pretty soon.
