"Working" accordion might be a stretch. Doesn't sound like you can play melodies on it, and she hasn't explained how all twelve major chords are covered by the buttons, but as far as I can assume, you can't reach all keys without having to take your hands off the ring. I won't fault her, though; "working accordion" was Nintendolife's words, not hers.
Maybe I could share my first four screenshots, if I hadn't sent my Switch in for repairs
It came back wiped clean. I had all my digital games and cloud saves, but not the screenshots or clips.
@RupeeClock Makes sense. March 31st is their fiscal end of the year.
At the very least, there's an easy explanation why games are being discontinued then. If they can funnel all of their sales before that date, it makes their financial reports look extra good. It must be easier for them to revolve everything around that date when sales numbers and fiscal reports already are. Either that, or it's a very common fiscal year end for a lot of other companies, so maybe they'll know that it'll be extra hard to secure parts in the next fiscal year.
Glyph seems right up my alley, but I'll have to wait for reviews for sure. Nuts seems like an answer to Pokemon Snap in a world that hasn't had an answer for twenty years until recently with Bugsnax and an actual Pokemon Snap sequel, weirdly enough. Again, I'll wait for reviews.
Hopefully 3D World can get a little help. Super Mario Maker 2 lags in 2 player mode, and Nintendo's expecting 3D Mario to work across the internet? Seems unlikely with existing infrastructure.
Its so interesting how that one kid, Milo, said that gaming allows him to socialize. I never really thought of it like that. When I was a kid, gaming was usually a lonely venture, outside of the occasional game with friends (but we weren't getting together to play, we were already together and video games was just what everyone wanted to do). Most of my hours, then and now, are me going into single-player, or multiplayer with randoms. But at the same time, gaming has become the only way I connect with friends that aren't my future wife.
I know this too well from playing musical instruments. Listen to your body before you listen to your high score! Take breaks!
I've had to take a whole day off once after grinding for Golden Strawberries in Celeste for a week, the pandemic allowing me lots of gaming hours at once. It's easy to get in the zone and turn your attention away from pain in your fingers/wrists.
If it hurts to play, even a little, stop doing it!
Gosh if it werent for the Switch, I would have convinced myself that I was responsible for the demise of Nintendo. I didn't really pay attention to video game culture until I got a DSi for myself in 2009. Nintendo's then growing sales numbers would decline continuously for the next eight years, as I would buy every console that came out.
I'm shocked that Superliminal didn't even make top 50. A wildly unique and inventive puzzle game drawing inspiration from Portal in all the best ways.
Of course, my usual gripes with 3D All Stars and Pikmin 3 being considered on a 2020 list. It's cool to see A Short Hike so high, even though its not a very deep game. It does well what it intends to do. And this is helpful in finding a lot of quick recommendations that I didn't have on my radar before. "Buy this," huh? Okay, I think you've sold me on Horace.
I don't really agree with 3D All Stars being on there... They deserve to be on a list of the best games of 1996, 2002, and 2007. A 2020 list should be reserved for new games, or at least old games with a substantial amount of new content/features.
I'm glad to see A Short Hike on there. I'm sure I'll play Hades and Ori eventually.
@SM3DASislit Yeah, I had a similar issue with ARMS, a game I know is good, but something about it escapes me, where I'll get my butt kicked, and I'm not sure why the punches I'm throwing aren't landing but my opponent's are. I'm sure I could figure it out if I put in the time. Sometimes multiplayer games just don't click with me.
Its not the accent itself, just that it tends to be overdone in the context of American media. Its a common trope for british accents (or american accents just with soft r's) to be inserted in places that don't make much sense for them to be, often in an attempt to seem serious or actorly. A lot of american film actors come from England, and it also has an association with shakespearean theatre. The Star Wars series gets a lot of this, for example. It's also one of the easier accents to do, beat only perhaps by our southern accent.
I mean, yeah, she's pretty much the sole reason I switch to Japanese with subtitles.
But I would never think to seek out her twitter or wherever. It's not really her fault, is it? Its her voice. The problem is that she auditioned with that voice and someone decided it was a good fit. It makes much more sense to be angry at whomever was casting, or whomever finalized the the acting budget. Clearly Nintendo of America dropped the ball in finding the right talent. Or maybe it was a directing issue.
But unfortunately, this is the age of the internet, and its way easier to get mad at someone whose name and face you can see, and whose voice you can hear. Try to fight the urge to shoot the messenger; this actress was just trying to do the best she could.
Don't worry, the reasons are entirely personal. They're both games that I put down after playing for only an hour or so.
Ninjala's yet another multiplayer title that I couldn't grasp due to mechanics that weren't well communicated, and the gameplay didn't entice me enough to put the research into studying those mechanics. Perhaps the tutorial should have been more helpful, or the games theming could have been more intuitive (e.g. a Mario block made of brick probably breaks, one of ice can probably melt, etc). Unfortunately, that means that there may be a good game in there if I do the legwork, but other games like Rocket League or Splatoon either have simple intuitive mechanics (like the former), or communciate them well (the latter). My friends didn't really keep playing either, and I probably shifted my attention to something else. To be honest, if I was a gaming journalist, I wouldn't have given it a review at all with how little of a chance I gave it. But as a mere consumer I don't have any incentive to play through it to get the whole picture, so I'm just going to go just by how good it was on my first few tries.
Super Mario 35 I find fault in the way that you can't really interact with the other teammates, at least not in a way that you can influence, coupled by the fact that the game won't end until everyone dies. So its really just survival mode. The first couple times I played, it really just felt like playing an endless loop of the same levels for 20-30 minutes at a time until eventually enemies overwhelm you beyond reason. I've got nothing against survival games, but its pretty disappointing after having played that one fan game that did the same thing but better imo.
If you consider 5 being an average game, I gave them both pretty average scores, which is appropriate for games I felt indifferent or bored by, but don't have any glaring flaws. Makes room for the praise I gave the other games that I really liked.
My left gray joycon got drift after having been sent in twice; I'm tired of sending them out and not seeing them for a week or two.
I finally broke down and opened up my left gray joycon to replace its joystick, plus I applied a sick-looking white shell too it. Now I can go dark gray/white for a Yin Yang look, or pair it with one of my reds for Nintendo logo colors.
The diy repair job was pretty tricky but I'm glad I did it, just gotta find a really good hi-res how-to video and follow instructions as closely as possible.
The only true 2020 game I played was Moving Out, but since this list goes by Switch release date (and includes freeware I spent an hour or less on before deleting it from my console), this opens up my options.
Superliminal (9/10)
A Short Hike (9/10)
Manifold Garden (8/10)
Moving Out (8/10)
Super Mario Bros. 35 (6/10)
Ninjala (5/10)
Jump Rope Challenge (5/10)
EQQO (4/10)
Also, I had no issue using the search bar. I'm glad ever weird game I played was represented.
I'd be glad to submit something, but it looks like Nintendolife has reviewed everything I've played!
Not bad, considering I've got about 70 titles. The only exceptions are Kitten Squad and Mad Age and This Guy, which were both free titles I got that turned out to be less than worthless.
Gris was good. Mostly because of the stunning visuals, but its also a pretty good platformer. It feels pretty good to control by the end once you have all of your abilities.
Its short game, but at this price, definitely worth it.
Also, get Downwell if you're into punishingly difficult roguelikes. Its low price is because of its small world and simple mechanics, but has nothing to do with its quality
@Kalmaro @Ogbert If I remember, there was a bit of potential backtracking and getting lost, but nowhere typical of your average metroidvania. I think the first few floors had some collectables you couldn't get until you had later items, but that's it. Not close to like when I played Super Metroid.
I just want to wait and see if its possible to add stuff like ramps and make it go vertical. I bet it'll give me an error if I try to make the course go up a make-shift ramp and onto a coffee table or something. Probably too much of a risk of it falling and breaking the camera.
If it was possible, though, and you can make the courses as long as you want, I would fully expect some people to go ham and turn their living room into mega courses for social media. That would be worth the $100, even if I have to buy my own blocks or build my own ramps.
21/21! A few of them were close, though! If I wasn't able to assume that it couldn't be a game that was already an answer above, I might not have gotten it.
