Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Pokémon Scarlet And Violet

Currently at 78 on metacritic. Better than BDSP (73) worse than Let’s Go (79), SwSH (80) and Arceus (83). Honestly though, with scores that close together it doesn’t mean much. Pretty much every review reads like “Fun but the performance is terrible”.
So basically, 7.8/10, too much frame drop.

Cervantes, Fire Emblem Awakening
“...They are impressive, though, aren't they? My whiskers? Ha ha! I've not shaved since my very first battle. And have I ever lost? No! Not even once! Ergo, my moustache makes me invincible. It's science, my boy, science!”

Re: Poll: What's The Best Mario Party Game?

I grew up in the NDCube era (my first was DS though, which is one of my favourites). 9's boards are awful, but honestly has a strong mini game selection. 10 is just 9 but worse. Super is better, but pretty mediocre overall. Superstars is probably my favourite.
The only 3DS entry I played was Island Tour, which, whilst not great, is still better than some people make it out to be.

Re: Review: Overwatch 2 - Solid F2P Shooting That Doesn't Yet Justify The '2'

Munchlax

@Personauser93 It’s less about the game’s existence being “justified”, but the consumer’s personal purchase. It can be “justified” to one person, but not another. If you want people to play your game, you need to adequately justify the price point or time investment. For example, for big Splatoon fans and series newcomers, 3 did enough to justify the purchase. For more casual fans, it didn’t. It think few people were saying the game had no right to exist, but it was still a hard sell to many.
A big new mode or lower price point would have resulted in Splatoon selling even more, as more people could justify the purchase. Fans of the game would probably have liked it even more. However, Nintendo probably made more profit as it is, as the additional sales would probably not make up the development budget, but we should be approaching this from the view of the player not the developer. We should be asking for the best value possible, and should be able to express dissatisfaction if we do not feel that a product lives up the the asking price. All games are judged like this, and always have been. It’s just that peoples’ standards for this vary- e.g. if Splatoon 3 had no new maps, it would save Nintendo even more development costs, but sales would be further decreased, because the number of consumers who can justify the purchase would also be less. As a result, perceived value of the games existence would also be less.

Re: Random: Wiglett Is Evidence Of Crab-Like Pokémon Evolution, Says Fan

I know that GameFreak says “it’s based on this real world phenomenon, separate from regional forms”, but it honestly feels like an excuse to pad out the Pokédex with clones. Now that these designs can be considered their own Pokémon, I’m worried that they will be leaned into more heavily to save resources whilst maintaining the ability to say “100+ new Pokémon!” in the marketing.

Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda Game Should You Play First?

Munchlax

My first Zelda was Ocarina of Time 3D- I felt that it was the perfect introduction.
My first 2D Zelda was A Link To The Past- and I hated it. I was convinced that I didn’t like 2D Zelda until I tried Link’s Awakening and released that it was just ALTTP I didn’t like.

Re: Hands On: Splatoon 3 Brings New Ideas, But Nothing Revolutionary

Munchlax

Remember that Splatoon 2 hasn't been updated in 3 years. Couldn't all of this have just been added to 2, spread out over that time period. In a post-Fortnite world, full price online games really need to justify sequels. I'm happy for the hardcore Splatoon audience, but as a casual fan, this feels too similar to the game I already have to be worth paying £40 for.
