Re: Kit And Krysta Reveal Their Least Favourite Mario And Zelda Games

Munchlax

My answers for both are the NES entries.
I love Majoras Mask, TP is very good, and I genuinely prefer all of the NSMB games to 3 and World. However, whilst I enjoy it overall, Sunshine is easily my least favourite 3D Mario. Too much jank, and reaching the good levels involves persevering through the pachinko, the poison river, the sandbird, and massive amounts of filler. Seriously, remove red coins, blue coins, and the janky nonfunctional levels, and there's only 40/120 shines left.

Re: Monster Hunter Rise Version 3.9.1 Is Now Live, Here's What's New And Different

@Arawn93 Yes it’s just the opening segment, but 1) I’m pretty sure that’s what @buggysdad was talking about, and 2) That opening segment can take a while to get through. Literally every time a new system is introduced, there’s a screen of text. Given the depth, it’s a lot for a newcomer to keep track of, and the game is pretty bad at “show, don’t tell”. When you get more experienced, it’s a pick up and play game, but it can take a while to figure out in the first place.

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About Pokémon Scarlet And Pokémon Violet?

@Royalblues
Every gen has had a different artstyle, yo can compare them side by side and see a slow transition. The designs were always "anime" it's just that each gen matches the stylistic conventions of the era they were made in.
Also the ai thing has no reflection on quality. You absolutely could create an ai that generated 90s style anime characters, for example, its just that nobody has bothered to (at least high profile).

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Is A Reminder That It's Never Too Late To Change

To preface this, I like PLA (8/10 imo). I used to believe that an overhaul in this style was the only way to modernise the series. Then I played Dragon Quest 11. Like Pokémon, it has a rigid turn based combat system and extreme linear world design, and yet it never once felt dated due to how polished everything was, the amount of personality in the designs of enemies, the creativity behind some of the environments, and a basic story and characters being elevated by sheer charm. Whilst changing a formula from the ground up can be a great approach (see BoTW), it isn’t always necessary. Sometimes all a series needs is a renovation rather than a reconstruction.

Re: Here Are The Top Ten Best-Selling Nintendo Switch Games As Of February 2022

Munchlax

@Dr_Lugae It’s a lot more complicated than that. Pokémon Go has increased brand recognition to greater than it was in the GBA and DS eras, and the Switch has a much larger install base than the 3DS, as well as having a healthier ecosystem than pretty much any previous Nintendo handheld. These will have all contributed to higher sales. Almost all 1st party Switch games are among the best performing in their series, regardless of quality. The increased sales have less to do with the quality of the games and more to do with the system they’re on, as more users + more hype = more people willing to try new series they know little about.
