Re: Random: Pokémon Distribution Event At The World Championships Is Appropriately British

@Jhena
As some from the real life version of Turffield and going to uni in the real life Circhester, I think SWSH is definitely more British than the average Pokémon game- I was about to say that I don’t remember there being a desert in the midlands, but judging by the recent weather countrywide, I think that they actually might have been ahead of the curve. It was nice to see that the script was in British English, including the slang and idioms, but it did occasionally come off as trying to hard.

There’s a competitive meta game called “little cup” that uses similar builds and strategies, but with unevolved Pokémon only. Also, I’m not seeing the teams need to be optimised, just that they should have some kind of synergy or a unique strategy to make bosses more challenging and interesting.

I want level scaling though. I want to be able to do gyms in any order, and for the gym leaders to be hard because of improved team design, not because they’re 30 levels higher. Taking on the strong gyms first will just mean you steamroll the low level ones afterwards too. IMO, a better solution is to have level scaling, and a way to level down your Pokémon (presumably resetting EVs in the process).

Its not universally hated, but it’s divisive. It’s got high highs and low lows. The combat is fun but takes ages to open up. The environments are great, but progression is greatly slowed by an over abundance of skill checks. There are some great characters and story moments, but most of the large cast doesn’t get fleshed out and it takes 30 hours for anything interesting to happen. The blade system adds a lot of customisability, but also locks new skills behind Gacha mechanics. The music is great but you can’t hear it over the characters constantly screaming. A deep Philosophical story is undercut be what I can only describe as totally unfitting “anime cringe”. It is very much a game of two halves, and your mileage with it will vary depending on whether or not the highs outweigh the lows for you.

Being able to change characters on the fly is big, you can do more complex strategies if you're less ai reliant.
@SteamEngenius Were you doing all of the side quests? The level curve in the game is based on the assumption that you are doing at least half of them. I completed 66-75% of side quest I came across and don't recall having to traditonally grind at all until an infamous level spike 95% of the way through
