Re: Best Animal Crossing Games Of All Time

Mountain_Man

Hmmm... five years later, and I say this list needs to be redone because New Horizons was grossly overrated. Yes, I said in a previous comment that it deserved to be at the top of the list, but I obviously wrote that before I played New Horizons for any length of time and realized it's more Happy Home Designer than Animal Crossing. You're bored with decorating? Too bad, because there's nothing else worthwhile to do. Then there's the braindead villagers who say the same exact things day after day after day, reducing them to little more than props to collect. And holidays that can effectively be beaten by collecting all the unique rewards, giving the player no incentive to participate in them again? What were the developers thinking! I've also come around to appreciating Wild World since my previous post and realize that it's actually very good even if somewhat limited compared to New Leaf, which is by far the best game in the series.

Here's how I would rate the series today:

1. New Leaf
2. Animal Crossing (Game Cube)
3. Wild World
4. City Folk
5. New Horizons

@MegaMari0 "I wish EA would release the NFL license from its evil claws like it has with FIFA. Absolutely no respect for the player base."

EA isn't in the business to respect the player base, they are in the business to turn a profit, and as long as a large enough portion of the player base keeps buying their minimum effort offerings, EA has no financial incentive to change their habits.

Epic Mickey was such an epic disappointment. I remember Warren Spector discussing his original vision for the game which was supposed to have meaningful choices and consequences with Mickey's appearance changing throughout the story in response to the decisions the player made. What we got instead was a mediocre action platformer with light puzzle solving, zero choices and consequences, and an obnoxious camera that seemed to actively fight against the player by always positioning itself where it was sure to obscure what you wanted to see.

Re: Random: "I'm Able To Trust Sony More Than Nintendo" - Japan Reacts To The Closure Of The Wii U And 3DS eShops

@Ralizah "Nintendo will forge ahead unimpeded, no matter the backlash."

That's because the backlash is only coming from the easily ignored vocal minority. The overwhelming majority of Nintendo's customers simply don't care, and most people who bought the 3DS have already moved on to the Switch or another system and never looked back. And even a lot of those complaining now will have stopped caring in a year.

Bottom line: Nintendo knows this won't hurt them.

The music industry is the only one to get digital distribution right. I can buy any album I want in high quality formats unencumbered by DRM and free to use however I wish. I wish other industries were as forward thinking. Even digital books are crippled with DRM, and companies like Amazon and Barnes & Noble have been known to delete content from their customers' devices.

The idea that you don't actually own something you've paid for, and that access can be revoked at any time without warning, is something that too many people simply accept, and companies are happy to exploit that complacency.

But here's the truth: nothing is gone forever in the digital world. "Enterprising individuals" will always be able to acquire any digital product they've previously purchased.
