During the Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase, it was announced that Portal: Companion Collection will launch on the Nintendo Switch later today. Holy moly! The game is live on the UK eShop right now for the price of £13.49 - not a bad price!
The collection will feature both Portal and Portal 2, the latter of which originally released way back in 2011.
Here's a breakdown of the game from Valve:
Including Portal and Portal 2, the Companion Collection comes to Nintendo Switch™ with all the groundbreaking gameplay, dark humor, and exploration that earned the series hundreds of awards.
In Portal, you’ll use a highly experimental portal device to solve physical puzzles and challenges. Maneuver objects--and yourself--through space to puzzle your way through the mysterious Aperture Science Laboratories.
Return to Aperture Laboratories in Portal 2 where you’ll once again face off with the lethally inventive, power-mad A.I. named GLaDOS. Meet an expanded cast of characters as you think your way through dangerous, never-before-seen areas of the laboratories and a wider variety of portal puzzles. Plus Portal 2 also includes a co-operative game mode with local, split-screen and online multiplayer so you and a friend can think with portals.
Will you be picking up Portal: Companion Collection when it launches later today? Let us know!

Holding out for the inevitable physical release.
Great. I love the Portal games, and playing them on the go will be amazing. I'll pick it up when a physical version releases.
Literally just finished Portal 2 for the first time last week. If I hadn't picked up the physical on Xbox for 99p I'd probably be all over this. Really enjoyed it and thought it well worthy of the praise it gets.
Given, I no longer have easy access to my PS3 with the Portal games, this is a really exciting inclusion for me. Hopefully the 2 player mode still holds up without nostalgia goggles.
What, only digital???
As this is the only thing in the Direct I was interested in, glad to hear it’s releasing today.
That’s all I wanted, yay! I’ll get it sometime soon!
going to wait for Limited Run Games to publish the physical edition, because we already know they're going to.
Never seen Sold Out as the grey bar on the eshop and yet thats how portal is listed on there right now
"There might even be cake". She lies.
Seriously, these are 2 of the best games ever, and great to have them on Switch. For a FPS puzzle game, its impressive how emotional the endings of both games made me. Shockingly good story telling through game design.
Any word on the extras (I know there's two different versions on xbox 360)?
Still waiting to hear whether or not it has gyro aiming. No buy for me if it doesn't.
@Williamfuchs420 must be a Mario 3D All Stars situation /s
I love glados so much!
Great games. Stone cold classics both.
Never did play 2 and I heard it's a great co-op game. Gonna buy and get yelled at, it's going to be worth it!
@BenAV Just bought it now. Can report on Portal 1 in 2 mins...
@TryToBeHopeful Cheers.
I may hold out for a Physical on this
Bought! Always wanted to play a Portal game.
@Magician Same. I do have a feeling it's gonna be Limited Run Games running the physical however (like Doom Eternal)
@CharlieGirl By the time you get it from them though Portal 3 and Half Life 3 will be released.
Absolutely. I've had eshop funds sitting there waiting ever since this was first announced.
@BenAV Portal 1 has 'motion aiming' with a bunch of configuration options. I'd guess Portal 2 does as well, then.
@TryToBeHopeful Awesome. Thanks for letting me know.
Also has Director's commentary and Bonus Levels.
@TryToBeHopeful
You've already got started? You monster!
@Ooyah Nah, just tinkering. And now to compare with Xbox 360 Orange Box and standalone versions (while Portal 2 downloads).
Yep i shell be getting this, fantastic games and full of wit.
@TryToBeHopeful
I know, I just couldn't resist the joke! Sorry! 😆
@Magician Physical has been confirmed?
So, it looks like Portal 1 has Developer Commentary from 'the Orange Box', Challenge Maps from 'Portal: Still Alive' (called Bonus Maps). Achievements but no Leaderboards. At first glance from the starting screen resolution looks higher.
(edit: all the portal games were apparently xbox one x enhanced, so maybe I'm just seeing things (or the menus are different))
Hell yes.. definitely buying it today and I'll double dip if a physical version releases.
@CharlieGirl not sure stores been kinda buggy last few days. Wreckfest wont even show up anymore but its dlc do witch makes little sense
Great news! But the best part? This collection is only £13.49.
@TryToBeHopeful Does it download the two games separately or are both under one app? Funny question, but if separate, are the icons nice?
Here's hoping a physical collection is also on the horizon.
@The_Pixel_King 2 games separately. They're not separately purchasable, though. The icons are both standard.
I love these games, but they had to release 2 days before Sunbreak so the cake will have to wait.
Or what glados said it should be called
Portal 2: Motion controls present again. Menu text noticeably clearer on my 4k TV. Everything else (feature-wise) looks the same as the X360 version, with the co-op DLC included as part of the main game. Seems to be Community Leaderboards for challenge levels.
These are two of the greatest games ever made, for my money. If you haven't played them, and they're good ports, get them. If you don't like puzzle games, get them anyway. Very few games manage to marry story and gameplay like these do. Not even the Half-Life games they're spinning off from. The first Portal is the minimalist, scrappy indie. (I may even prefer it.) The second one is the blockbuster spectacular. They complement each other.
All I wanted from today's mini direct was details on the Portal and Cowabunga collections. The Portal games available today is even better than I hoped for.
My most wanted game of the last TEN YEARS!!!
I bought a Vita expressly because I expected Portal to release on it, and I wanted handheld Portal.
Finally, today, that dream has been fulfilled. And it has Gyro aiming!!!
Waiting for physical!!
Will love having these on the go.
@pjzx Oh, is the joke that LRG shipping takes a few months. Never heard that one before.
They've release today and I'm on holiday 😭
Great news!
Strange no physical though. Surely would se like hotcakes?
Never played these games before, even though I was a teenager when the orange box came out. Got them downloading right now ready to play tonight. Lets go.
Eh maybe someday on sale. If they made them separate, then I'd probably just get the first one.
I wonder if Valve will bring over Half-Life and Team Fortress 2 at some point. Those games were on the old NVIDIA Shield, so it wouldn’t be too far fetched if they made their way over. I’d be down for a Half-Life collection on the go.
both games support motion aiming!!!!! totally worth $20
NEED IT NOW NEED IT NOW NEED IT NOW
I AM SO HYPED, THESE ARE TWO OF THE BEST GAMES EVER
(Sorry for caps)
Any mention of a boxed copy?
I still might just pick these up on Steam during a sale at some point, but it's nice these are on Switch!
Never bought anything so fast in my life
Give me a Half-Life collection you cowards!
Woohoo! Insta-buy for me. They both run great 1080p/60fps docked and 720p/60fps handheld. Since we now have these and also The Talos Principle on Switch, we just now need The Witness to have all of the best first person puzzle games! One can hope...
I can already see myself double dipping on this: digital and the inevitable physical.
I bought the digital within minutes. I will buy the physical too when it comes out later this year. Pre-orders soon as listed on Play Asia!
Two of my all-time favourite games finally hit the Switch! Woohoo!
Girlfriend is bugging me to get this for coop, but I remember some puzzles in the first one requiring quick aiming that was tricky even with a mouse. And on a controller? Ehhh.
This was an easy day-one buy for me. I normally wait for a physical, but I couldn't wait in this case... and honestly, if they do get a physical release later, I won't be upset about having to pick that up, too. Both of these games are masterpieces, and I'm super excited to replay them both on the Switch! The port's been fantastic so far as well. I just hope Valve brings Half-Life over next, it's my favorite of their IPs and one of my favorite game franchises period. Half-Life 2 was ported to the Nvidia Shield along with the Portal games, so I'm hoping we at least see that come to Switch too.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
@NeonPizza It does support full motion aiming. In both games.
@NeonPizza Tested it, it works with the pro controller as well (including gyro)
These ports look great and run great. My only criticism is that the subtitles are tiny when playing handheld, and there is no option to adjust the size.
Nintendo's eShop of "Best Sellers" is not making any sense. So Portal is #7 when looking at all games (this includes physical and digital.) When you look at digital only games, Portal isn't listed at all.
It gets weirder. When you look at Sonic Origins in "all games" it's ahead of CupHead and Amoung US. Switch to "digital only" games and then suddenly Cuphead and Amoung US are higher than Sonic Origins. Something is definitely fishy.
@NeonPizza I can't really tell framerate differences between 30 and 60fps, I only have a 50hz TV with added input latency. The gameplay is smooth (no stutters) and the controls are solid.
@Magician was there a physical release for this
@Ninfan Not yet, no.
