Can you have too much Michael Jordan in your life if you're a basketball fan? 2K don't think so! Yesterday, the sports game publisher announced a release date for the next NBA title, NBA 2K23, and it's exactly when you think it is — September!
On 9th September, you'll be able to shoot as many hoops as you want and "answer the call", and there will be two editions launching — the Championship Edition and the Michael Jordan Edition. Fancy! The Championship Edition will include a 12-month subscription to NBA League Pass in North America which would otherwise cost $15 a month. Pre-orders open tomorrow, 7th July.
The Michael Jordan Edition, however, is graced with the 14-time NBA all-star's presence. It's the fourth time the player has been featured on the game's cover, having previously adorned NBA 2K11, 2K12, and 2K16's own.
NBA 2K23 will see the return of 2K11's Jordan Challenges. There will be 15 of these — 10 rebuilt from 2K11 and five new challenges.
2K also gave us a look at two different versions of the legendary athlete in game — one from the 80s, and another from the 90s.
Prices for both editions will be revealed tomorrow when pre-orders go live, so don't miss it! And if you're worried that your favourite player won't be gracing the cover, 2K has revealed that more stars will be announced when pre-orders drop. So there's still hope!
Will you be grabbing the Michael Jordan Edition when pre-orders launch tomorrow? Let us know!

Nice! Only 100$ its a bargain..i will buy one for my brother too thats 200$ , price of Switch Lite. Its not like 2K are greedy
This the baseball guy?
If someone teaches the developer the ABC’s of compression or just mention to them that compression is a thing I’ll buy this. However if it’s a 50GB download again for a basketball game then they can forget it.
I will always respect 2K for making NBA 2K on par with Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions unlike a certain developer I will not name.
@DiamondJim
I would rather have this over a certain soccer game legacy Edition.
Wonder how much that cost them, I was always disappointed that NBA Jam never had Jordon. Used to love watching Bulls Vs Jazz in the Nineties
This will microtransaction hell if they need to recuperate the costs
Oh hey, it's one of the five basketball players I know!
His role in Space Jam with Looney Tunes.
First time I have wanted to buy an NBA game.
The mode in 2k11 was brilliant so I’m glad they are bringing back. Especially to have it in handheld. I will probably get the day one on ps5 but pick up later on switch.
I’ll get the NBA gamepass one depending on the price.
@AcridSkull no this is the famous actor who played with bugs bunny
Havent really cared for nba games since like ps2 but will always be interested in picking up jordan editions.. grew up watching the bulls win in the late 90s, since i am from Chicago, MJ will always be the goat
@DiamondJim atleast its not over 100 gigs like a good many of my ps4 games over the last couple years.. 3 versions of cod is like 500 gb!
@ParadoxFawkes Michael Jordan achieved a god-like status in the minds of almost everyone who was a kid in the 90's.
Good, he deserves more attention than he's gotten. Really overlooked player.
@ParadoxFawkes ah, the guy who's always hunting "wabbits"
Jordan in real life played like he had cheat mode enabled. I wonder how that's going to translate in this game?
@ParadoxFawkes @AcridSkull Nah, this is the guy who played Killmonger in Black Panther. 😂
While it's cool as an option to get 2K on the platform..
I'd much rather more arcade sports games on Switch i.e. a new:
.. etc. on Switch over simulation sports games.
... I mean aren't 2K sports games like at least 50GB downloads to begin with? Not really easily suitable for the Switch imo. Maybe 2K should work on making NBA Playgrounds better for Switch. Anyhow, bring on more arcade sports offerings!
... Wun can only hope.
That being said every NBA 2K with MJ on the cover has been amazing so hopefully this entry is as well. They really need NBA Live and NBA The Show to come back though, competition often inspires innovation as this great series has become somewhat stagnant over the years.
(Like, how is there still no separate All-Star game mode with good, competitive All-Star Weekend events?? Even NBA Live 2005 had those... and bring back the celebrities and mascot teams/players for Blacktop games)
... Wun can only hope.
