The two Endless Ocean games on the Wii were among my favorites, especially the second with its wide variety of underwater environments. I would love a third game made for the Switch.
@Onion I understand it's something you would like to see addressed, but it's not an issue in the sense of a game breaking bug or a critical feature that is not working as intended. The large pop-up during combat is admittedly an odd design decision, but it absolutely does not affect gameplay at all. Not even a little.
For the record, I don't care if you buy the game or not. I just think it's odd to suggest one should avoid it because of such an inconsequential thing.
People defending these games claiming they're just as bad as the originals seem to be missing the point. First of all, surely a "definitive edition" should improve on the originals. And secondly, the originals weren't anywhere as bad as this new release.
@mariopartyfan68 While climate change is certainly a real phenomenon, questions about whether it is natural or caused by man, whether or not it will lead to global catastrophe, and whether or not there is anything we can do about it are very much mired in politics with liberals attempting to use it to force social and economic changes of questionable value
Content of article does not support the headline. All they're saying is, "Stuff wears out, and we're constantly looking for ways to improve it." Nobody from Nintendo has ever directly addressed joystick drift.
For the record, all four of my Joy Cons have been sent back to Nintendo at least two times each for various repairs, including joystick drift, and one of my left Joy Cons has started acting up again, so I'll probably be sending it out for repairs. Thankfully, Nintendo still has a free Joy Con repair program in the US.
@Onion "I'm simply waiting to see if they address the issue."
The point is, it's really not an issue that needs to be addressed. Look at the screen shots in the article, and you will notice that there are interface elements in the Steam version of the game that cover up the exact same amount of screen space as the text bubble in the Switch version. Yes, the bubble gives the impression of being huge, and there's really no reason for it to be as large as it is (they could decrease the bubble by about 50% without reducing the font size) but it only appears during combat, and it does not in any way interfere with gameplay.
@GrailUK "Does any other messaging get posted up there?"
No, that bubble only appears during combat, and it's not even particularly distracting since all the action happens on the lower portion of the screen anyway. Compare the two screenshots in the article, and you will notice that the large bubble is not obscuring any significant details as you can still clearly see the enemy in the distance. I wouldn't be upset if Aspyr released a patch to make it smaller, but some people here are making a bigger deal out of than what is warranted, like the one fellow saying he refuses to buy the game because of it. Give me a break.
I'm not bothered by the text bubble at all. Yes, it's huge, but since the camera's vertical position is locked, it doesn't obscure any important details during combat, and you never lose sight of allies or enemies. I honestly don't even really notice it while I'm playing.
@RetrovisRabbit People say "dated" as if it's a criticism when it's really just a description. Laurel and Hardy films are "dated" but they're still fantastic entertainment. In the case of Knights of the Old Republic, the graphics are dated in the sense that you won't mistake it for a game made in the last few years, but they're still quite good, and there are considerably worse looking 3D games that were released that same year.
@FullMetalWesker I played this on PC when it was originally released, and I remember that a frequent complaint among gamers was that the interface was clearly designed for a controller, particularly things like the inventory which presents items in a long list with only a few visible at a time instead of a more mouse-friendly grid.
@MajorasLapdog It's very hard to say if someone not already vested in STAR WARS lore would find the game enjoyable since a lot of the story and presentation seems to depend on a familiarity with that universe. It's a great STAR WARS game, but is it a great game in and of itself? I honestly don't know.
"One minor annoyance that we feel still needs to be mentioned is that it’s abundantly clear KOTOR was not designed to be played with a controller."
Actually, it was since it was originally released for the Xbox, and ironically enough, one of the chief complaints about the PC version was that it was obviously designed to be played with a controller!
I bought this years ago when it was originally released on PC and loved it. It's the game that got me into role playing games in general. $15, is, I think, the right price for a Switch port. That's only $5 more than the PC version is currently selling for at GoG.com.
As cool as these are, I just can't convince myself that I need to buy one. My local Walmart still has about half a dozen of the Mario version in stock, and if the price is ever heavily discounted then I might consider it, but otherwise, no sale.
@tysonfury Not wrong. You can license any piece of music you want as long as you're willing to pay for it. In this case, Rockstar wasn't willing to pay for certain songs. That's all there is to it.
So what this article is really saying is that Nintendo hasn't done anything to address the chief complaint of only one island per Switch (even though multiple players on a single island has been a central feature of this series since the original).
The 2.0 update and Happy Home Paradise didn't reinvigorate my interest which has been pretty well invigorated since the game was first released. What it did do is give me a whole heck of a lot more to do during any given day than any Animal Crossing before it (full disclosure, I've only ever played Wild World, New Leaf, and now New Horizons).
Unless the market suddenly shifts completely away from portable gaming, which I doubt will happen, I can't see why Nintendo would abandon the hybrid concept. It's a niche that has proven to be a winner and keeps Nintendo out of the slugfest between Sony and Microsoft.
I really like the update. The new items and features have disrupted the daily routine I had settled into on my island, but that's not a bad thing. I'm currently in the process of rearranging structures — something I haven't done in many months — to make room for a farm.
Happy Home Paradise is every bit as charming as its predecessor, although I find it curious that it feels somewhat disconnected from the main game. Instead of building onto your own island, you're building up a distant vacation resort that has its own currency (Poki instead of Bells), but at least you can bring items back to your main island unlike the 3DS game.
All things considered, I'm very pleased with what Nintendo has done with New Horizons.
I downloaded it for a couple of days, noticed that it was draining my battery significantly more than any other app (and that was just from running in the background!), and deleted it.
Nintendo has been running a profitable business for decades, so it cracks me up when people say things like, "If Nintendo really wanted to be successful then they would do this!" and they rattle off whatever their current pet peeve happens to be.
Seems some people just like to complain, complain, complain. Nintendo announces this is the only paid DLC for New Horizons, and they complain. If it were announced that this was the first of many paid DLCs, they would complain. If Nintendo announced that there would be no paid DLCs, they would complain about that as well.
Seems to be a lot more laid back experience than Pokemon Go which had you glancing at your phone every few seconds when a new Pokemon appeared. From the little I've "played", you just keep the phone in your pocket as you walk around and then check your progress from time to time. Perhaps there's more to it as you progress.
@Stocksy "Many places drop bombshells at the worst and most inappropriate time."
It's not unusual for the "suits" to keep their employees in the dark about any number of things until the last possible moment. I'm not saying that it's a good policy, only that it's a common one.
Heard a story about one company that hosted a lavish end-of-year party for the entire company. Live DJ, open bar, buffet, the works. At some point in the evening, the CEO gets up on stage to read off a list of names and then says, "If you did not hear your name, then you have been laid off, effective immediately. You may come by the office tomorrow to pick up your belongings and your final paycheck. Enjoy the party."
@Joeynator3000 "What is soft launch, anyways? I can't find it on my phone..."
I guess it means it's only available to some people but not the general public? I really have no idea. Found the Google Play Store page again and it shows an install base of 50,000+ with a handful of reviews posted but is still saying that it's not compatible with any of my devices.
Found it on the Google app store, but it said it's not compatible with any of my devices, and then when I refreshed my browser, I got a "page not found" error message.
