Re: That Large Combat Text Box In Star Wars: KOTOR On Switch Is "Intended"

Mountain_Man

@Onion I understand it's something you would like to see addressed, but it's not an issue in the sense of a game breaking bug or a critical feature that is not working as intended. The large pop-up during combat is admittedly an odd design decision, but it absolutely does not affect gameplay at all. Not even a little.

For the record, I don't care if you buy the game or not. I just think it's odd to suggest one should avoid it because of such an inconsequential thing.

@mariopartyfan68 While climate change is certainly a real phenomenon, questions about whether it is natural or caused by man, whether or not it will lead to global catastrophe, and whether or not there is anything we can do about it are very much mired in politics with liberals attempting to use it to force social and economic changes of questionable value

Re: Doug Bowser Comments On The Battle Against Joy-Con Drift, Says Nintendo Are Making "Continuous Improvements"

Mountain_Man

Content of article does not support the headline. All they're saying is, "Stuff wears out, and we're constantly looking for ways to improve it." Nobody from Nintendo has ever directly addressed joystick drift.

For the record, all four of my Joy Cons have been sent back to Nintendo at least two times each for various repairs, including joystick drift, and one of my left Joy Cons has started acting up again, so I'll probably be sending it out for repairs. Thankfully, Nintendo still has a free Joy Con repair program in the US.

Re: That Large Combat Text Box In Star Wars: KOTOR On Switch Is "Intended"

@Onion "I'm simply waiting to see if they address the issue."

The point is, it's really not an issue that needs to be addressed. Look at the screen shots in the article, and you will notice that there are interface elements in the Steam version of the game that cover up the exact same amount of screen space as the text bubble in the Switch version. Yes, the bubble gives the impression of being huge, and there's really no reason for it to be as large as it is (they could decrease the bubble by about 50% without reducing the font size) but it only appears during combat, and it does not in any way interfere with gameplay.

@GrailUK "Does any other messaging get posted up there?"

No, that bubble only appears during combat, and it's not even particularly distracting since all the action happens on the lower portion of the screen anyway. Compare the two screenshots in the article, and you will notice that the large bubble is not obscuring any significant details as you can still clearly see the enemy in the distance. I wouldn't be upset if Aspyr released a patch to make it smaller, but some people here are making a bigger deal out of than what is warranted, like the one fellow saying he refuses to buy the game because of it. Give me a break.

Re: Review: STAR WARS: Knights Of The Old Republic - Still Strong With The Force Despite Dated Design

Mountain_Man

@RetrovisRabbit People say "dated" as if it's a criticism when it's really just a description. Laurel and Hardy films are "dated" but they're still fantastic entertainment. In the case of Knights of the Old Republic, the graphics are dated in the sense that you won't mistake it for a game made in the last few years, but they're still quite good, and there are considerably worse looking 3D games that were released that same year.

Re: Poll: Are You Enjoying Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 2.0?

Mountain_Man

I really like the update. The new items and features have disrupted the daily routine I had settled into on my island, but that's not a bad thing. I'm currently in the process of rearranging structures — something I haven't done in many months — to make room for a farm.

Happy Home Paradise is every bit as charming as its predecessor, although I find it curious that it feels somewhat disconnected from the main game. Instead of building onto your own island, you're building up a distant vacation resort that has its own currency (Poki instead of Bells), but at least you can bring items back to your main island unlike the 3DS game.

All things considered, I'm very pleased with what Nintendo has done with New Horizons.

Re: Pikmin Bloom Is Now Available In The Americas

Seems to be a lot more laid back experience than Pokemon Go which had you glancing at your phone every few seconds when a new Pokemon appeared. From the little I've "played", you just keep the phone in your pocket as you walk around and then check your progress from time to time. Perhaps there's more to it as you progress.

@Stocksy "Many places drop bombshells at the worst and most inappropriate time."

It's not unusual for the "suits" to keep their employees in the dark about any number of things until the last possible moment. I'm not saying that it's a good policy, only that it's a common one.

Heard a story about one company that hosted a lavish end-of-year party for the entire company. Live DJ, open bar, buffet, the works. At some point in the evening, the CEO gets up on stage to read off a list of names and then says, "If you did not hear your name, then you have been laid off, effective immediately. You may come by the office tomorrow to pick up your belongings and your final paycheck. Enjoy the party."
